Riddliculous A little math logic question for you. Peter picked one more pepper than Paul. Pam picked one more pepper than Pat. Together Peter and Paul picked ten more peppers than Pam and Pat. All together Pam, Pat, Peter and Paul picked sixty peppers. How many peppers did Peter pick? See page 8.

Robservations A compliment is a powerful thing. We all want one. Actually we want as many as we can get. It is part of human nature. We want people to notice us and what we are doing. Versus criticism. Ouch, words can really hurt. No matter how polite and constructive someone is, it is still tough to take a negative comment. More human nature. We can hear a hundred compliments but cannot remember any of them if we hear a single criticism. And it is crazy how quick people are to point out the flaws in others these days. Everyone has plenty of advice for others but very few of us take care of our own business. We would do so much better if we offered to help rather than our opinions. Thanks to the folks that give me compliments. I had a couple amazing ones last week that inspired me to want to go home and write.
Game Warden A hunter had just bagged a beautiful buck deer on the side of a mountain when the Game Warden appeared. “Do you have a hunting license?” he asked. “No, sorry, I don’t” “Well I’m afraid I am going to have to take you and the deer in to town,” said the Warden. After 45 minutes of brutal dragging, they finally had the deer near the road. “Actually,” said the hunter, “I do have a hunting license. Thanks for your help.”

Watson’s Waddle So we were out for a second go at camping this past weekend. Camping is a big part of Rob and Trudi’s lives so I am pretty much forced to go along. As it turns out, I am a pretty good camper. Tilley and I stayed around our site pretty good for the whole five days. There were so many new scents and other things to see that it was totally incredible. I used to hate my life jacket but now I realize it means some boat and fishing time. I love the quiet rocking motion and how excited the people on the boat get when they catch a fish. Anyways, overall I did pretty good. They are quite happy with my performance so we will be getting out a few more times. As for me, I find the fresh air and open spaces to be very invigorating but now that I am at home I can feel a lot of sleep coming on. It looks like Tilley is feeling the same way.

Bull Riding “What is Mexican poker?” you ask. It is crazy, that’s what it is. Four contestants sit at a card table in the middle of the arena and a bull is brought into the area. The rodeo clowns entice the bull to take out the table and chairs. The last to remain seated wins the prize. That’s just part of the Bullriding in the Rockies event on Friday, July 22. Enjoy a cowboy dinner, a family dance, a professional bull riding clown and of course, professional bull riding. All funds raised go towards the Columbia Valley Rockies hockey organization. SERVING THE VALLEY
This is now a busy time of year for athletic adventures in the valley. Many folks are in bike races, triathlons, etc. as well as many others are just out for a walk, run or ride. So please be aware as you are out there driving. Many participants assume that you see them and that they have right of way and may make a sudden turn in front of you. It happens often. Don’t get frustrated. Just relax and enjoy life and let others do the same. It is not worth the stress. No one is trying to ruin your day so only you can decide how you feel about it all. Drive safe and live longer.

Horse Shoes The cowboy burst into the saloon. “Where is my horse? If I don’t find it I’m gonna do the same thing I did the last time this happened!” “Uh oh. What did you do?” “I walked home.”
Mosquito-Free I wrote about a recipe for chasing mosquitoes away from your yard or deck area. This past weekend, Trudi, Maddy, the hounds and myself went camping at a spot that welcomes mosquitoes. We sprayed the concoction around our site and it was incredible. We were mosquitofree (maybe a couple but I saw none) until we left our area. It is supposed to work for over 2 months. The recipe is as follows: Mix together 3 cups Epsom salts, 3 stale beer and a litre of blue mouthwash. Stir and add water until salts dissolve. Place in spray bottle and spray, spray, spray. Cover the area that you want to enjoy without any mosquitoes and you will be pleasantly surprised. It worked for us anyways. I will note that somehow a couple mosquitoes still found their way into the camper through the nights.

Congratulations to Fairmont Pizza and Ice Cream Parlour for reaching their 5 year anniversary this past weekend. It has been a great run as they get busier and busier every year. All of their food is incredible. From the fresh salads to the tender, juicy ribs, the donairs and souvlaki and much more. Their pizzas are obviously made by someone who likes to eat pizza. I personally give them a lot of credit for their food selection. Stop in and give them a try.
Shorter Days With the passing of the Summer Solstice last month, the amount of daylight each day begins to decrease. It is awesome having the long days but a touch of depression knowing that we are on our way back to the shorter days. Anyway, enjoy summer. If you are looking for a quiet, wellmaintained spot for a family camping adventure, then Larchwood Lake may be the answer. It is located near Skookumchuk. Larchwood is a hosted campground with 22 sites, a few of which are right on the lake. The water is clear and warm so it is perfect for fishing. There is a fee of $14/ night to stay there but it was well worth it for me. The washrooms and the sites are clean and taken care of. Plus there are a few fish in the lake, although they are a challenge to catch these days. You might want to check it out.

My Poor Niece You know, we see and hear of a lot of accidents on the news but it is often very distant. Distant until you get the email saying that the last one you saw on the news is your great niece. Lily, my 3 year-old great niece was backed over by a neighbour’s car coming out of the driveway. Her parents were screaming for the neighbor to stop and for Lily to watch out but no one heard them. She is in rough shape but will survive. Brutal hip injuries and surgeries. She is going to be in a lower body cast for months. The photos look awful. Fortunately she is young and will eventually heal. She is blessed to be alive.

area. It was a beautiful bird with orange and yellow markings on it. Lately I have been trying to pay more attention to their voices. Each one is very distinct when you take the time to listen. Today I have had a Pileated Woodpecker on my deck calling quite a bit before testing the suet brick. It was only about 5 feet from me so it was very clear. Awesome really.
Utopia Detailing at its best. Utopia is the place to go. They do detailing on almost any type of vehicle, making them all look like new inside and out. This time of year they really specialize in boats and RVs. Stop in for a free estimate near Pete’s Marina in the industrial park.

An organic black tea, full-bodied, combining hints of fresh bergamot and lavender. A favourite for years.
An ambitious lawyer, wanting to impress his client, said into the intercom, “Miss Collins, get me my broker.” His assistant quickly buzzed him back, “Which one, stock or pawn?” Another fabulous show put on by the Kinsmen Club of Windermere Valley. The fireworks on Thursday night were extraordinary. There were hundreds of people viewing from many vantage points. After several minutes there would be a bit more intense array and folks would be suggesting that was the finale. Then another, and another. They just kept going. And I love the light show of the boats dotted all over the lake, stationary during the show and then the weaving patterns afterwards. Thanks to the Kinsmen and everyone who donated. A great job. We can make contributions to the Kinsmen year-round that will go towards this great display.
