Friday is for the contractors (everyone is welcome) with chances to meet some of the main suppliers between 10 am and 2 pm. Saturday is for all their customers, 9 am to 3 pm. It will include live music from Sheberdean & the Postmistress starting at 11 am. Both days include a free lunch of smokies or brats, hosted by ICAN (donations accepted). There will be lots of live demonstrations and giveaways both days. And, it will be 15% off their entire inventory for both days! I try to attend every year and I must say that the bratties and farmer’s sausages are so good. Very high quality and very tasty. It is a fun day all around.

Low Salary The employee had just listed all the reasons that he needed a raise. “I know that you cannot afford to get mar-

Shakman’s Bar and Lounge is bringing Magic Mike’s Canadian Playboyz for an exciting Ladies’ Night on Saturday, July 2. I am confident that most of you girls out there know what this show is all about. Handsome, fit, hunky men showing their stuff. Now a lot of you are considering going, so you might as well get your tickets in advance. They already have a few good men coming but they can get more if they know that you will be there. Find Shakmans on Facebook for more ticket info or stop by the lounge this weekend and pick some up.

Riddliculous The tallow (leftovers) obtained by burning ten candles will yield one extra candle. If you burned one thousand candles, how many extra candles could you make? Answer on page 8.

RONA CUSTOMER APPRECIATION JUNE 24 AND 25

Who are you and who do you want to be? Only you can decide. With graduation happening, many of our youth have some tough decisions ahead. As do the rest of us, often on a daily basis. Every decision we make has repercussions later on. And we have all made thousands of decisions in our lives, some great and some pathetically brutal and wrong. We have to live with our choices so it is best to try to make wise ones. We all have a vision of who we want to be. For some it is about materialism and achieving wealth, while for others it can be about fairness or helping others. Some folks are quiet, shy and reserved, while others are outgoing, confident and social. And others just find a balance of all these traits. But for your own sanity, be honest and true to yourself. Others will love you as you are much more than who you are trying to portray. Life can be good if you live it well.

Tough Relationship “I hear you are getting divorced.” “Yes it’s true. My wife was going from bar to bar every evening.” “Really? I didn’t know she drank.” “She was looking for me.”

The meat sale at AG Valley Foods turned out to be a very busy day. Many wise shoppers stopped in to take advantage of the great deals. The store celebrated 10 years with Greg and Eric here in the business with Mom. Their store has seen a lot of incredible growth since the guys were here. That all happened last weekend (my calendar at the back had it wrong, sorry). I am pretty sure all of you were there. Thanks to Valley Foods for the great deal and thanks to all of you for supporting a great grocery store.

Watson’s Waddle Since I have only been with my human family for a few months, there are lots of things that are still new experiences together. This past weekend we went camping. As a dog, I am never really sure when or where that vehicle will stop and what I will find when I get out. It was paradise. A beautiful lake to wade into and drink from; a crackling campfire; a cozy camper in the rain; a thousand new scents to check out; gophers and squirrels to chase and more. It was fun. I was bred to be a hunter so I enjoyed staring down into the gopher holes for what seemed like ages. Something had to happen eventually, or not. Matilda and I explored lots of new stuff and I only disappeared once all weekend. I was just kidding around but Rob was really stressed and it was tough on Trudi calming him down. Poor old guy, haha. Overall we had a great trip and I am looking forward to many more of the same.

Funding Fireworks The time is getting closer so please make sure you are contributing to the Kinsmen Club of Windermere Valley for the fireworks display next week. They are held at the start of Canada Day, 12:01 am the previous evening. That will be on the Thursday night this year. Our fireworks are incredible and many visitors come here just for the midnight show. The whole valley benefits from the efforts of the Kinsmen on this one. Remember that the fireworks cost a lot of money. It is up to all of us to help cover those costs. Donate to the Kinsmen Club. You can put money in the change drop boxes in several businesses in Invermere and you can donate directly by talking to Steve at 250-342-2445.

The Steamboat Mountain Music Festival is next weekend, July 1 to July 3 at the Edgewater Community Hall. Friday will bring ‘Porch Parties’ around the town with various musicians performing. On Saturday, July 2, enjoy the main festival with live performances from several bands leading up to some dancing in the hall in the evening. The whole block will be shut down for street vendors and good times. I believe that ‘Valley Forged’ will be opening up the festival on Saturday. Sunday brings music workshops for anyone who wants to learn more or better themselves in song writing and performing. Find them on Facebook or check their insert for more information. For dog control issues within the municipality, please contact our Dog Control Officer at 250-342-1707. As we now know, plastic is not so fantastic. Up to a trillion plastic bags per year are used around the world. While most of them go to landfill sites where, scientists estimate, takes up to 1,000 years to break down, millions still end up in waterways, trees, and in our oceans where it eventually ends up in stomachs of fish and birds. We encourage you to use biodegradable dog waste bags, which are available at various sites throughout town.

The photo on page 6 shows a dire situation. It is one of my tomato plants battered by hail from the first storm last week. I was asked why I did not save it and answered with, “Because it was hailing.”

Political Turmoil The two politicians were discussing the power outage of the day before. “I was stuck on an elevator for two hours. It was awful,” said the first one. “I know, eh,” replied the second one. “I was stuck on an escalator.”

The Thrifty Reporter AT the beginning of 2015, the Invermere Thrift Store started participating in an innovative recycling program with CamAm Exports who accepts clothing, shoes, bags and linens items that do not sell in the Thrift Store. Approximately 30-50 bags get stored in a 53 foot trailer each week and once filled is taken to the CamAm Exports main warehouse where it is weighed (as the Thrift Store will receive 10 cents on the pound), sorted, bundled and sent to Overseas where it is redistributed in different ways. In 2015 the store filled the trailer 3 times. Way to go Invermere Thrift Store.... for being so innovative and going green.

It can be tough to afford a home for many people. Often a family home deteriorates due to the expense of upkeep. Many homes in our valley are experiencing this. Housing is considered inadequate if it requires major repairs and/or is lacking necessary services and basic facilities. The estimated number of homes falling into that category are as follows: Invermere: 90 -110 homes; Radium: 15-35; Canal Flats: 45-55; East Kootenay Area F: 35-90; East Kootenay Area G: 60-75.

Fresh Raspberries By now, most readers have tried some of the fresh strawberries from Saunders Family Farm. You can find them at AG Valley Foods, at the Farmer’s Market or you can order them directly from the Saunders. The Saunders will have your order ready or you can actually go pick your own. Now the raspberries are ready and it is the same thing. All their berries are so plump, juicy and tasty that it is incredible. Find out more by calling them at 250-342-9283.

Caesar Sundays Have you been to The Station Neighbourhood Pub for ‘Caesar Sundays’ yet? It is quite the experience trying one of their $20 Special Caesars. I would call it lunch and drinks all in one. It contains 2 ounces of vodka with house made hot sauce, peppered bacon, spicy meatballs, giant prawns and more. I think the trick is pacing the food part to finish at the same time as the drink part. It sounds like a skill that you all should go and try to master. Enjoy.

Wet Weather My buddy on the coast and I were comparing weather problems. “We’ve had lots of rain storms lately,” I told him. “It’s only rained twice here in the last week,” he replied. “Once for 4 days and once for 3 days.”

Great Golf Learning The pros at Riverside and Mountainside golf courses in Fairmont are still offering up a great golf lesson package. For only $119 you receive an hour long lesson from a CPGA certified professional plus a voucher for 18 holes of golf at either course. The lesson involves the ‘Trackman’, an amazing radar-based tool that reads everything about your swing and the ball’s flight. It assists the pro in making a couple of suggestions to improve your game. Give them a call at 250-345-6346.

Longest Day of Golf I must give credit to some of the local golf courses who take part in the ‘Longest Day of Golf’. This past Tuesday, June 21 (summer solstice), the pros at Copper Point Golf Club and the pros and members of Windermere Valley Golf Course will be golfing as quick as they can from dawn to dusk as a fundraiser for ALS. It will start out fun but by the end of the day there will be some exhausted golfers around. They move very quickly and play through a lot of groups. Give them thanks when you see them.
