June 4-10, 2020 Volume 18 Issue 23 Cancelled Canada Day I am very sad to say that the Invermere Legion will not be organizing the Canada Day Parade this year. Another tragedy of the virus. I also believe the Kinsmen are cancelling the Fireworks display at Canada Day. That is very sad as well. Those two events have always been huge highlights of summer in the valley.
Sorry Edgewater My apologies to the Edgewater area. Your Post Office no longer has room for The Valley Peak so I will not be able to leave it there for you. There are plenty of copies at Mountainside Market and the Horsethief Creek Pub liquor store in Radium

Some Things Opening It is nice to see a few more ‘Open’ signs around the valley these days. A lot of the restrictions have not made much sense to me, but I guess I am not as wise as some. Anyway, I ate out at a restaurant last week and it was a nice change. I hope we can all support these local businesses that have had to shut down and are likely struggling.

My mother moved this past month from Castlegar to Vernon. It was a lot of downsizing as the new place is similar to Columbia Garden Village here. My health issues and the pandemic prevented me from travelling to help. It was a very tough move and my siblings had to do a lot of work while trying not to push Mom too hard to make decisions. I am very grateful to them for the work they put into it. Everyone’s hearts took a bit of a beating for sure. It is one of the many things I have to be grateful for.

Campfires With some camping being allowed in June, it is important to remember your campfire regulations. Your campfire must be attended at all times. You also must have a shovel and/or a pail of water nearby. The other important rule is that the fire is kept not larger than 50 cm tall by 20 cm wide.

HAPPY JUNE EVERYONE GET OUTSIDE
The World is pretty divided these days. Not just in the States or here in Canada, but everywhere. It is hard to understand what drives it all. Power and money at levels that are way beyond any of us. Most of the rules and laws being put into place by certain governments have nothing to do with controlling a virus and everything to do with controlling the population. That is very obvious by the randomness of the rules. A lot of things that the public are barely aware of are happening in the background while we are distracted with whatever is hitting the news this week. And so much of it is controlled, beyond our wildest imaginations. Locally, I just like to see people getting along and helping each other, regardless of who they are, what they are doing or where they are from. Some people waste a bit of energy wishing people poorly but when it comes down to it, most are still there as kind, nice people. Kindness, support and love are all needed in these times. Do not waste energy judging and worrying about others actions. Just find your joy and help others find theirs.

Avoid the Virus

What is the best way to avoid the virus (and any virus)? It is to have a strong immune system. How in the heck do you do that? Well, we all know the answer, we just don’t want to face it. We need to live healthy lifestyles. Prepare healthy, balanced meals with fresh vegetables. Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables. Drink lots of water and so forth. Take a walk every day, getting exercise, fresh air and sunlight (vitamin D, yummy). I guess I was lucky to get cancer and kidney failure as that demanded that I change my life instantly to rebuild my immune system. There is a chance that I have saved my life from this and other viruses because of that. Now there is a thought. The really best way to avoid the virus is to turn off the TV and the news and walk outside and enjoy your day.

Watson’s Waddle Well thanks to everyone who offered up wading pools to keep me from overheating most days. There are a lot of wonderful people in the valley. A lot of animal lovers and naturally, dog lovers. Our friend reminds us constantly that it doesn’t hurt to ask for things that you need. She was right. This would be a good time to mention that I am getting much older and if anyone has any ideas for helping me in and out of a vehicle, that would be great. Even a couple stairs is getting tougher. It has been a great week. I hate thunder but I don’t mind the rain and love the fresh wet grass. I have been on some fantastic walks over the past few weeks. Rob has some good friends. A reminder that it is tick season so really love up your pets with lots of cuddles while checking closely for those nasty little buggers. Your pet will love you for it. I know I love it whenever Rob rubs me. Have a wonderful week hounds and humans.

Moe Norman was one of the greatest Canadian golfers of all time. He won 55 Canadian Tour events, set 33 course records and had 17 hole-in-ones. He played on the PGA Tour for a few tournaments in 1959 but quit due to shyness and bullying from some other players and the PGA itself so he returned to Canada.
The Essentials of Life Water and sunshine are incredibly important things in our world. It is something we all know but now that I am digging in to gardening a little bit, I understand much more. I am sure farmers really get it. All my plants are loving the recent sunshine and even the day of steady rain after the thunderstorm. They all look so much greener and healthier. Sunlight and water are good for us too folks. Get out and enjoy whatever outdoor activity you prefer. Just get out there.

2020 PROPERTY TAX IMPORTANT CHANGES DURING COVID-19 The District of Invermere’s property tax due date will remain as July 2, 2020 and all property owners are encouraged to pay their property taxes, if they are able, on or before the due date. In order to assist you, District of Invermere Council has passed a bylaw delaying penalties for late payment by roughly three months due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. All taxpayers can make payments until September 30, 2020 without penalty. A 5% penalty will be applied to any unpaid property taxes after September , 2020. This includes penalty on any unclaimed Home Owner Grants. A further 5% penalty will be applied to any unpaid property taxes after October 30th, 2020. This allows you to make payments without penalty until September 30, 2020. Although you may still pay your property tax before then if you are able. We hope this provides some relief during these challenging times.

What are You willing to Accept? So how far are you willing to go to help ‘flatten the curve’ of this fear pandemic that actually has a very low mortality rate? Are you willing to stay socially distant forever? Or when will be your breaking point? Are you waiting for a vaccine that, likely with a microchip in it, will have zero effect on any future virus? Or will you just be happy with more tracing and tracking on your mobile devices? Dr. Tam just recommended ‘rounding up’ people that do not comply with the mandatory vaccinations. Is that cool with you? The W.H.O. is suggesting going into homes to take away ‘sick’ people, especially children. How is that for you? It is no wonder they want to take away the guns from law-abiding citizens. Sorry if I seem ‘conspirational’ but I am really just asking everyone to pay attention to all the stuff that is actually happening.

Happy Horses I have always been a bit afraid of horses. They are pretty powerful when they want to be and I had a couple scares riding as a youngster. It is good to try to grow through fears. My neighbor boards a couple horses in his field. Watson and I walk past that field on some of our walks and the horses always approached the fence. So sometimes I would pull up some nice grass or clover and feed it to them. And I would scratch their ears. Eventually I was taking them apples. And as I look out my window today, I see they are back! I don’t think I am quite ready to ride a horse but pretty happy to visit across the fence from them.

COVID Divide (Submitted)
Another Mask Thing
The fear message relating to COVID has divided people. It has turned residents of tourist communities against their neighbors from elsewhere. It has turned generations against one another. The younger generation are suffering the more serious consequences of the shut down as they are primarily the ones thrown out of school and work and not allowed to have a graduation or even be with friends in a park. Yet the young are labeled as selfish if they meet up with friends and give them a hug. Please people chill, 99.9% of people in Canada are not infected!
So we have learned that wearing a mask full time causes high carbon dioxide and low oxygen in your bloodstream. In some hospitals, lower than 92% blood oxygen levels has become the marker to go on a ventilator so almost anyone who has been wearing a mask for more than a few minutes would qualify for that. Otherwise, masks are a one-time use product. Cloth masks retain moisture and become a garden for bacteria and other germs, including viruses. Touch that mask and then you spread things to everything you touch. It seems many folks have forgotten anything they ever learned in biology class. It is very basic science, no matter what the news tells you. They have been very inconsistent on this. Today Dr. Tam said it is okay to not wear a mask protesting, just don’t yell too loud. Hahaha. Who would take that seriously?
It Was That Year (Form page 4) In 1928, the Iron Lung was invented, bubble gum was invented by Double Bubble, the first home pregnancy test was distributed and the first colour television transmission took place.
Just Be Nice We can make a difference in any person’s moment, day and life so easily. It is called just being nice to each other. It feels so much better than knocking others down through competition and judgement. I have noticed that many people who are happy are nice to be around. Why is that? Well usually it is because they were nice first and that has helped them find happiness. So yeah, help everyone you can whenever you can and you will find yourself looking more and more forward to your daily life.
Worst Case Scenario My wife has been missing for a week now. The police said to prepare for the worst. So I went to the Thrift Store and bought back all her clothes.
Spelling and Grammar I am not saying that I like the English language and all the weird rules involved, but I do try to remember some of the stuff from growing up. Beecuz eye right four a living, their our things aye seam two find a knowing. Its lighk sum peep hole doent even a temp too try. I guess it’s a good thing that I have a proofreader.
Where Watson Was The photo on page 6 shows Watson in one of his favourite places. He is in the Kootenay Kritters car with a couple friends on his way to another adventure.
Research I know many of you have different takes on a lot of this stuff. Please turn away from the media and do some real research.
