Rockies Hockey The Columbia Valley Rockies dominated the Fernie Ghostriders in the first round of the KIJHL playoffs. It was a four game sweep against a team that had many more points during the season.

The Kimberley Dynamiters got past the Creston Thundercats, 3 games to 1. So the upcoming series will be Kimberley and the Rockies with home ice advantage to the Dynamiters.

That brings games 3 and 4 here to Invermere on Thursday, March 3 and Friday, March 4, both games at 7 pm.

The Rockies are on a roll coming into this series so hopefully we as fans can help keep them rocking. Everyone should get down to the Eddie Mountain Memorial Arena and be part of this strong community.

A Day Late Sometimes it is tough keeping up with the production of The Valley Peak as a pretty much solo operator. Thank God for the blessings of my delivery people.

The paper is out a bit late this week as I have been hit with a pneumonia adventure.

It is quite startling how tough it is to sit at a computer when you are having breathing difficulties.

Today is day 3 in the hospital and it looks like one more at least. The bloodwork is showing improvement from the first stop in emergency. I arrived on Saturday and I am still here overnight Tuesday.

The Valley Peak will still get out there, just a bit slower than usual. Again, thanks to everyone who has been part of that.

Missing Some Stuff This has been a tough week with limited wifi access through the Interior Health Portal. I don’t seem to be receiving any emails regarding upcoming events. So I hope I have not missed anything serious coming up this week.

Robservations So folks, I really must apologize for the lack of information in this week’s issue. I have found myself very ill with pneumonia and have done a few days in the hospital with no energy. I was not even able to get the paper done on the usual day and had to contact the printer, proofreader and delivery folks.

I definitely experience the risk of having such a solo operation. When the main player is down, nothing moves.

This is also been a strange time lately where many clients are not really updating me on their current events. Plus this time last year there was no issue as I was bringing home my dialysis machine and took a week off. I have nothing to plagiarize haha.

Even Easter is against me as it is a bit later in the year and I can’t really write too much about it yet. Soon Though. Adult Easter Egg hunt, District Easter Egg hunt and more.

I can tell you about the incredible support that I require through these times in the hospital. Watson is not a big fan and really feels the vibes. I’ll remind him to write a bit about that, One thing I am re-Robserving is that there are so many things in life that become meaningless when you are thinking you are on your way out. So many things.

Watson’s Waddle Another crazy week in our world around here.

Rob went for firewood on Thursday after dialysis and I could see he just wasn’t feeling it.

He needed a lot of cuddling that night and the next day as he was weak and shivering really badly. We cuddled all day but that didn’t help. He was very unsettled the following night and I knew things were going bad. There was only so much a hound could do.

So when Kootenay Kritters took me home after dialysis I could see life was about to change. Rob was into the hospital. I know hospitals now, and most of them now me.

My other friend Tracy arrive to help Jen at KK. Nice folks.

I knew Rob was trapped and lots of folks were wearing masks when around him. He was pretty sick.

I love the Invermere Hospital and the staff there. I guess a couple of them read this article once in a while because they are very kind and respectful to me. They let me go right into Rob’s room and one evening I even got to get up on to the bed. I love the way Rob cuddles me and it was so nice to sneak some in that place.

Anyways, thanks to Jen and Tracy for getting me through this latest situation. It happens more often than I would prefer but that is the life of Rob & Watson these days.

So this was to be a great week for me with blood work for my oncology appointment in a couple weeks. I am always filled with dread and excitement between the bloodwork and the appointment.

But with this pneumonia happening, my blood cell counts are all over the place and I am afraid to let them see any of it. Super high white blood cell counts, super low hemoglobin and red blood cells. That sounds like a cancer diagnosis in a prepped package.

So I am going to stretch this out a couple more days before going for that bloodwork.

I would really like to see strong results in my multiple myeloma world.

Emptiness Why does a room full of married people seem so empty?

Because there is not a single person in it.

Bad Priorities Here I sit at 3 am in a hospital bed racing to try to get this issue to the printer for the morning so you can have something to read. It is already a day later than usual and only people who have come close to dying are here with me haha.

My late night humour sucks and my nurse hates that I am doing this. I hope you are well.

Happy Anniversary So I put this as my one-year anniversary for starting hemodialysis at home. It has been an incredible blessing to be considered a candidate for this process. There are very few who do it at home and I don’t know if there are any others that live alone and do it.

During training I could not see that I would be able to sustain this adventure. The actual physical support from a nurse or doctor is pretty important.

I have only nearly died twice during this year and both have been from pneumonia rather than kidney or cancer issues. But believe me, mentally, every fresh pain is bone marrow cancer returning and is it for the final time. It is a tough mentality.

But hey, here I am after a year of this part.

Two and a half years since all of this came forward with kidney failure. Pretty happy with that.

I was wondering how I will deal with that happening an hour later after we changed our clocks.

I found away. Get admitted into the hospital for the weekend. Some pain killers, IVs, sleep aids and isolation gets you thorough all that. You don’t even notice the time change because you are quite unaware of what time it actually is.

This Friday’s meal (March 13) at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 71 (Invermere) will be a corned beef and cabbage dinner complete with sides, dessert and a beverage. With my upcoming experiment of getting a raised garden bed in the Groundswell Community Garden I have had to seek out some things to grow. My sister, Darlene, has an orchard and garden at her place in the Vernon area. So I asked her for some seeds.

Of course she goes the extra distance and researches healthy vegetables for me with renal failure. It was an impressive, loving effort for sure.

I have never been much of a gardener or even a veggie-lover but I am looking forward to taking this on. The beds are just a block away from home so A good length from a Walkson.
