St. Paddy’s Day

Come on down to the Whitehouse on Friday, March 17 to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Always a fun evening.

Radium Rotary Bingo

I think it is this Thursday, March 26 at the Radium Community Centre. Five different games, a 50/50 draw and door prizes sounds like fun to me. Games begin at 7 pm.

Spring Equinox

The Spring Equinox, also known as the vernal equinox, is one of the four solar festivals of the year. The equinox which translates roughly in Latin to “equal night” is when the sun sits vertically above the equator, making day and night equal across the planet.

This year’s equinox is Monday, March 20 at 3:24 pm. From now on we see a bit more daylight than darkness everyday.

Math Quiz

There are three types of people; those who can count and those who can’t.

St. Patty’s Day

This Friday, March 17 is St. Patty’s Day. It

is an Irish-themed celebration that brings a few traditions to the West. Green is the theme.

Why do we wear green on St. Patty’s Day? Apparently green is invisible to leprechauns who are out to pinch you on that day. That brings the tradition of pinching people who forget to wear green. Most pubs celebrate with a green beer or other beverage. March 17 actually celebrates Feast Day which was the origin of Christianity in Ireland.

Winter Market

Hopkins Harvest is hosting another winter market next Sunday, March 26. The market adds to the great selection of specialty products at Hopkins. Watch for their Easter Egg Hunt coming soon.

Flats Funspiel

The 12th Annual Canal Flats Funspiel is coming up March 24-26. This is a super fun event for curlers of all ages and skill levels. It is an amazing event for beginners to get a taste of curling.

Healing

This has been a long haul with the cracked femur fairly fresh behind the open heart surgery. My body is working hard just to heal back to normal. They say it takes a year to recover from the heart thing. I have a few months to go on that one. The femur took me down for several weeks. I am just starting to weight-bear now after two months. The three screws have settled in fine.

Robservations

The things that matter are right in front of us. Family, friends, coworkers, and others are right here. Right where we are. Yet so many of us seek more. We cannot get by without some validation from strangers on the internet. It is crazy how many of us go instantly to our phone when we get a notification regardless of who we are actually with at the time. How often do you see two people together but not paying attention to each other or to their kids. We live in a beautiful spot and are surrounded by many beautiful people almost every day but we miss so much of it. Step back and admire everything around you. Put yourself in a positive mood and generate the energy that others want to absorb. ‘If it is possible, live at peace with everyone’ is the short version of the page 6 Bible verse. It states that we can have as peaceful a life as we like just by feeling at peace with everyone. We may have to change our behavior to achieve that. I know that I am not even close to at peace with everyone. I do try to love all of you.

Home Care

I must say that the Home Care program at our hospital is very good. They have done a great job at supporting me during my times of immobility. Life would have been awkward without their help.

Dissolved

The chemist was developing a brand new solvent. He fell into the vat and became part of the solution.

Firewood

It has been a crazy winter at this house. We have a wood stove downstairs but I also have a fireplace up in the living room, With me being laid up for a couple months we have tried to keep both burning to help keep me warm for healing. We have gone through a lot of wood. Thanks to the firewood angels that have helped us along. Without you we would have had a tough year.

Idoltry

An idol is something you love more than God, fear more than God and serve more than God. Never be idle about idols in your life.

We all chase different idols in our lives. I know I have chased a few. Put God first.

Watson’s Waddle

Drew and I drink a lot of water. It gives us total control of our marking procedures. We can drop a bit of urine in a second. It also means we have to hold in a lot of liquid through the day or night. So we like to be let outside on a regular basis. Except it is not that regular. We rarely want to go out at the same time. Maybe in the early morning. So it has been a tough couple of months for Rob. That walker makes it tough to pull the front door open. Really tough actually. We have been having fun making him work a bit more than usual. He will be walking soon I hope. We have been blessed to have plenty of different walkers but it is never the same as with Rob. Make sure you get your humans out for lots of walks and exercise. It is just as important for them as it is for us. A lot of humans are putting on a bit of weight these days. It might be up to us to help them get back in line with healthy lifestyles. And show lots of love to your humans. They really need that.

What Year Was It?

Michael Jackson introduced the ‘Moon Walk’, Vanessa Williams became the first African American Miss America, Dodge introduced the Caravan, the first minivan and McDonalds introduced McNuggets. China reached 1 billion in population, the Red Hot Chili Peppers released their first album, Disney Channel was launched and Carrie Underwood was born. What year was it? See page 7.

Ice Fishing

This is a great time of year to get out on one of our many pristine local lakes. All you need is a few friends, a fire pit, a few Konig bratwurst, a hole in the ice and some hungry fish. We are very blessed to be surrounded by so much natural beauty. Get out and enjoy it.

Short Story

People want to hear a good story on how I cracked my femur. You know, skiing, hockey, etc. I am afraid it as nothing like that. I was getting out of bed to let Rocky out for a pee and when I reached for my robe at the door I lost my balance backwards. I had a few steps to try to catch up but just accelerated backwards while falling. I hit head first into the wall and lay there for a few minutes to find I had hurt my hip a bit. I thought it was a bruise but 2 days later we had to call 911. I ended up on an air ambulance (plane) to Kelowna for CT scans and surgery.

Riddliculous Answers

(From page 2) Tooth, eye, hair and foot. Still Winter

Spring is pretty close as the days bring sunshine and almost a bit of warmth. The hounds will lie out in the sun for the afternoon. I still see a lot of snow on the ground so I imagine the golf courses are not quite ready to go yet. Pretty soon though. I am waiting for the ice to come off the lakes. Hopefully I will be healthy enough by then to get out and tease a few fish. Really I am looking forward to just being able to walk my dogs. That will bring me huge pleasure.

Sunflowers

They grow very well at my place. Taller than the house for a few of them. The bees love collecting all that pollen. I saw a great idea of planting them in a large circle on your lawn. As they grow taller, you have a natural gazebo. Depending on the size you can place a couple chairs or whatever in there. I may try that this year as I have so many seeds saved from last year. Creative gardening.

Bushcraft Shelters

So I had my first shelter pretty much built before I hurt my leg. It just needed a bit more support and a few more boughs and it was ready to host someone for the night. I even had a couple posts to start the bed. But apparently, with no one checking on it for a few weeks it began to collapse a bit on itself. I just needs someone to go in there and reinforce it a bit and it will be perfect.

I have been watching people build much more serious dugout shelters and that is my next hope. It looks like a fun thing to do as a hobby.

It was That Year

(From page 4) In 1983 a house was worth $83,000, a Mustang cost $6,500 and average annual income was at $21,000. Microsoft Word and Cabbage Patch Dolls were introduced, DeLorean folded and the final episode of M.A.S.H aired.

End of Feminism

I remember the days when we were taught to understand that women were our equals. We have many different features between the two genders but they have always matched up perfectly. Now I am watching men dressed as women competing in women’s sports and even being named ‘Woman of the Year’. What has happened to our society? This ‘liberal’ mindset is insane. First it is about acceptance of a different lifestyle but eventually it is about demanding everyone participate. I wish people would stand up and speak their minds. Bring back women.

Again, Health

I know I write about this on a regular basis but it is important. You are in charge of your health. Everyone knows what healthy eating and taking vitamins is all about but many of us just never bother. Welcome to kidney disease or cancer or whatever. Get some exercise, eat the rainbow, take some vitamins, get some rest and build your immune system. Remember that your health does not come in a pill or a needle. It comes from your God-given immune system which you must maintain as best as you can.

Fueling the Fire

When gas was affordable I used to drive around just to clear the bad thoughts out of my head.

Now that strategy is less affordable. Where We Were

The page 6 photo is from Copper Point with Mt. Swansea in the background. It is a beautiful spot.

Get Closer to God

We have to be prepared to go where God is taking us, we have to be prepared to trust in Him to make the path straight, and we have to be willing to go where God wants to take us.

Jesus tells us in John 16:33, “These things I have spoken to you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”

Full Of It

It is strange living in a country that has been so full of love from the people yet the Government and their paid media shills are full of hate and division and work hard to convince the people to feel the same way. Thanks

I really appreciate all of the help and support I have been getting from delivery folks, clients, the printer, readers and more. I do have a bit of ad space available at the moment but it will go quickly next month. Get in on effective and affordable advertising in the Columbia Valley.
