March 31-April 6, 2022 Volume 20 Issue 13 Merchant’ Corner Hopkin’s Harvest is in the planning stages for a vendors’ market beside their business. Vendors can come in on short notice and book for a day, a week or longer. It sounds like a nice, flexible arrangement so vendors can still get to other markets if they like.

Congrats Canada The Canadian men’s soccer team has qualified for the World Cup tournament for the first time since 1986. Good work guys. That is an impressive accomplishment.
Bighorn Alert I drove into Radium on Sunday and the bighorn sheep were out in full force on the
way back. There was a huge herd on the side slopes and quite a few right down along the highway. I can see why a few have been hit by vehicles this year. There were two trucks parked at either end with flashing lights advising drivers of the upcoming hazard. Traffic slowed to a crawl so it is a very effective strategy. Impressive actually.
Online Bingo Don’t forget about the Rotary Online Bingo every Friday evening. They have great pots and winners from communities all across the province. I think you have to find them on Facebook to play.

Rent a Garden Two years ago I rented a raised garden bed for the season from Groundswell. I had no gardening experience but had to start somewhere. I was blessed that it was close to my house and I was blessed with some wonderful vegetables as the summer went along. Groundswell is currently booking out their garden beds. They have some in the community greenhouse and others near the skate park in an outdoor enclosure. It is a great program. They are there to give you tips and help if you need it. I learnt a lot and was able to grow into my own garden at home the following year. I believe rentals are $65 for the season which includes a Groundswell membership.

FIND YOUR JOY AND LIVE IT THE LORD IS MY STRENGTH AND MY SHIELD. IN HIM MY HEART TRUSTS. PSALM 28:7
Lots of feedback on some of my latest issues. It is a good mix of raving reviews, gentle advice and reminders and maybe some more strongly voiced opinions. I appreciate it all and have to do my best to grow from it all. Especially the gentle advice ones. It has been a couple of years of disagreeing with the main narrative and letting readers know my thoughts. I tried to be pretty gentle and thought-provoking but it is all tough subjects. All I can hope is that a few folks really checked everything out before making decisions. Because of my writing I get many people chat me up with their thoughts as everyone already knows mine. I have been surprised by who thinks in which direction. There is such a wide range with everything in between. I am confident in my God-given immune system even though it was obviously very weak when I developed cancer and did the chemo. But I have worked hard to change that. I was sick with some type of flu last month so realistically I have natural immunity. Many folks with three jabs have also gotten sick so I am content to just sit back and wait and watch. I may have access to some ivermectin if needed and I do consume lots of hydroxychloroquine, both successful therapeutics around the world. Anyways, I guess my point is that I make my choices and I am not afraid to put them out there. I hope everyone is self-aware and strong enough to make their own decisions as well. We all know our own bodies and we have to do what we feel is best for them. Hopefully everything works out for everyone.

Watson’s Waddle So the RDEK and other districts have determined that Lake Windermere is highly contaminated with fecal matter, mostly cattle and dog poo (although some septic seepage also). They are discussing limiting access to the lake to many activities. Basically they do not want any swimmers or any DOGS anywhere near the lake. Activities will be limited to boating-related sports only. Basically if you want to enjoy Lake Windermere you have to be in a boat. It is ridiculous! Rocky and I (Drew) love walking along the shore and wading into the water for a drink. We make sure Rob picks up behind us every time. But we do see a lot of poo everywhere we walk. It is sad. Private security firms are bidding on the contract for 24 hour surveillance of the main beach areas during the summer. They will be sneaking around some of the quieter spots and private beaches during the days, especially weekends. Hopefully this will help eradicate the problem. I also hope that this article fooled you a bit as this is the April Fool’s edition.

Definitely we are into spring. The weather has been wonderful this week. Double digit temperatures in the afternoons and not too bad overnight. My yard has been snowfree for a couple of weeks and the ground has softened up. The garden is looking very tempting but I know it is not quite time yet. I saw a robin on the weekend. That is always exciting. The golf courses must be happy with this weather as it brings opening day a bit quicker and the ice is starting to soften up on the lakes. Soon we will be fishing open waters at these beautiful lakes.
Canadian Sports Trivia Answer In 2005 and 2006, Steve Nash was the NBA’s most valuable player. He is still a great ambassador for Canada and has inspired many basketball players.
Servant’s Heart There are a lot of people in this valley who have a servant’s heart. They just want to help people, giving their time, food, money or whatever it takes. They do it only because it makes them feel good and they know that it is God’s work. Sadly, others are helping folks to glorify themselves. They need to post a photo on FB or somehow be recognized. They are not really helping for the right reasons. Of course it is good that anyone helps in anyway but it is good to understand your own motives.

Where We Live It is very easy to get into a rut and to forget where it is that we live. It is incredible here for people on any budget. I am one of the brokest people I know but I live a very rich lifestyle. I stay within my budget by taking advantage of outdoor activities. I love just exploring into the mountains. Lots of people do some beautiful hikes, bike rides and more. Some like quads, dirt bikes and side by sides while others have campers and fishing boats. You can discover para sailing, gold panning or just a sunny day on the beach. And people travel for miles to come skiing and golfing or just visit the hot springs here. We live in a holiday paradise and we have first dibs on so many amazing adventures.

Blessings The month of March has been incredible for dialysis. I have been having so many visitors that hooking up to the machine is not nearly as cumbersome. I believe there was only one day in March that I was on my own. I am getting a few repeat guests and they are all getting to know each other pretty good. If I wasn’t on the dialysis machine I would have to get some coffee going or snacks ready. There have been some great conversations and I have been learning a lot about local history as well as the world around us.
Workout Plan I recently bought an exercise machine. It only helps a little bit. I get exercise walking around it to get to the back door.

Bike Trails
Where We Were
The valley has some amazing bike trails and they are starting to get some use. Please be respectful of the soft muddy spots as you can do some trail damage. Otherwise get out there and do the sport you love. Fresh air, beautiful scenery, some exercise and maybe some time with a couple good riding friends is a great day for anyone. The parking lots at both the Swansea bike trails and the Lake Lillian area have both been expanded to allow for ample space for this ever-growing activity.
The page 6 photo shows kids at a rally family barbecue at Kimberley Rotary Park. Folks showed up from all over the East Kootenay, happy to support the old Canada, True North Strong and Free.
It Was That Year (From page 4) In 1969, the first ATM was in service, Seiko sold the first quartz watch, Richard Nixon became president and Neil Armstrong became the first person to set foot on the moon.
Cannabis Regulations It is so sad watching the governments wanting to control cannabis use and growth. Another abuse of authority. Just set the plant free. Many people use it for many health issues. The science is there. Thousands of studies showing its medicinal properties including pain relief, fighting cancer, blood pressure control and more. Before regulation, cannabis was a huge part of medicine.
Mosquitoes It is warm enough lately that even a few mosquitoes have hatched into adults. I had to squish a couple of them today as they were sniffing around my bare arms. Hopefully it is not too bad of a season.
Daylight I do enjoy the later daylight in the evenings after daylight savings time adjustments. It is nice to feel the heat of the sun a bit later in the afternoon. We are now past the equinox so we are getting much more than 12 hours of sunlight every day. Beautiful.
Hiccups What is a sure way to get rid of hiccups? The standard is to have someone try to scare them out of you. But they say that vinegar is the best system. Just take a sip of vinegar and your hiccups should disappear. It can be any type of vinegar, including apple cider.
Diagnosis My daughter and I were suffering from similar virus symptoms. She decided to go see a doctor and then tell me what is wrong. “Guess what mom,” she said on the phone. “We are pregnant.”
Social Protocols I don’t always fit into society very well. I am trying to understand why it is okay to ask someone if they have been jabbed before you have a coffee with them but it is not okay to ask if someone was jabbed after they have passed away. It makes it difficult to fix things when information is missing.
