What would be considered the top ten sports in Canada? (Answer on page 5) May 27-June 2, 2021 Volume 19 Issue 22 Outdoor Church Service
Friday Night Bingo
This Sunday, May 30. The Lake Windermere Alliance Church is holding an outdoor worship service in their parking lot at 10:30 am. Everyone is welcome but they would like you to register. Please bring your own chairs, blankets, etc.
The Golden Rotary Club has run the online bingo for a year now and they are ready for some time off. The Castlegar Rotary Club is taking over the reins. I am not sure if the starting time has changed by an hour but you can figure that out. There are a lot of folks enjoying this bingo including a couple of my friends. That is great.
Hospice Raffle The Hospice Society of the Columbia Valley is holding an amazing raffle this spring and summer. ‘Swim the Lake” has some of the best prizes I have seen in a long time. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $20. Get more information from their ad on page 2.
Mountain Ranges My friend thinks it is quite funny that we have lots of mountain ranges. I keep telling him that they are really just hill areas.
Steamboat Artist Needed Check out the page 2 ad describing the artist contest to design a cd album cover for their upcoming release, ‘Shake a Tree’. Submissions must be in to the Steamboat Mountain Music Society by June 20 for a chance to win $250. Find out more on the page 2 ad.

Sweet Rain It is very rainy this morning and overnight last night. That is a good thing as it has been a very dry spring so far. Every lawn and every garden has to be loving the moisture. Both Rocky and Drew are from Port Hardy so they have no problems walking in the rain. A Tilly hat and a nice jacket made it a sweet walk for me also. My forecast shows a couple days of steady rain with some broken clouds and sunshine by the end of the week. It is good as our Earth needs it around here.

What well-known saying does the following sentence represent? ‘It is a fact of all physics that a conglomerate, of constant velocity or accelerating, will not have the capacity to allow the attachment of any bryophytes to it’. See page 6. A huge thanks to the folks who have donated to the Free Food Pantry. Last week was nice with a couple donations allowing us to stock it right up again. I have also found some different products in there including some baby formula (I would never have thought of that). This community has some good, wise, caring people. You can place food in the Pantry at 1313 10 St. Invermere or you can make a cash donation to myself for stocking. It is quickly becoming beyond my personal budget.

We live in strange times. If you are to ask a question about something that really makes no sense, you are considered a “Conspiracy theorist’ who is crazy and must believe in lizard people. That is an insane attitude. So many facts are out there but if it is against what the lady on the TV show told you, it cannot be correct. I am well aware that I go against the main narrative even though I do still hear it. Repetitively from almost everyone who watches the news. This is a ‘novel’ virus, not a new one, hahaha. Anyways, I will continue to question the things that really make no sense. I have done that through my health journey and here I am, doing way beyond anyone’s expectations. I will continue to do what I feel is right for my health as I would love to squeeze a bunch more years out of this life. Got a kidney? These two dogs have been an amazing addition to the program. Losing Watson was tough beyond imagination. I still quickly tear up when I relive that moment of seeing him beyond life. It was very traumatic. But Rocky and Drew are so full of love and are already clearly happy to be around me. They make me feel great. They are both very handsome and have distinct little personality traits. It is fun getting to know them. I hope everyone out there gets to explore and experience the unfaltering love of a dog (or even a cat haha).
Hair Loss Patient: My hair keeps falling out. What can you give me to keep it in? Doctor: A shoebox.
My Old Life When I get wandering through the garage or digging into an old bin I am often reminded of my old life. I found my ball cleats and glove last week. I used to love playing slowpitch. It has been 3 ½ years since I became ill. I have been unable to participate in many of my old favourite things during that time. Even golf is exhausting so I have not been out yet this year. Fishing is just about it for me and even that requires a companion to help with a couple of things. Hopefully things will open up a bit for everyone so you folks can get back to slowpitch, soccer and other group sports.

So this has been quite the life change. Rocky here, with Drew by my side. We have had quite the journey from Port Hardy to Invermere and it seems like this is where we will be
staying for a while. I’m good with that. I really miss my old human, but these new ones are pretty good. A blessing really as everyone is very loving. Rob has some super friends that support him on his adventures which means they take us for some nice walks while he is on his dialysis machine. I am not a fan of that machine and it goes on for hours. Rob takes us on fishing adventures. We lived on the coast and I had never been in a fishing boat. I am not a big fan of the entry and exit but I can lay on the bed on the floor all day (with the occasional treat involved). It is pretty comfortable and really quiet. Once in a while there is a bit of commotion around a fish but I don’t care. If you ask me, Drew gets special attention. He knows how to work it and just sucks it right up. He is tough competition for sharing all the love. It is a good thing we really love each other.
What Country Am I? I am an island country in the Indian Ocean, the fourth largest island in the World. Because of isolation I have some very distinct species including the black and white indri lemur. I am the World’s top exporter of vanilla. What country am I? See page 7.

High Waters The snow pack has been holding pretty well until this past week. The warm temperatures followed by the rain this week should have some very high creeks and rivers in the valley. Please be careful around any running water right now
Westside Road The condition of Westside Road between Invermere and Fairmont is very bad these days. The potholes on the first half are deep and deadly. They thrash your vehicle’s suspension and tires. They are unavoidable, especially if you meet an oncoming vehicle. I am not sure who is in charge of that but please get it rectified.

Creston Asparagus It seems that asparagus has become one of my favourite vegetables. Especially fresh asparagus coming from Creston at this time of year. It is delicious. Sprouting up Things are beginning to happen in my garden. I think I have enough lettuce now for a sandwich. Some of the pea plants are beginning to climb a bit. The beets and carrots have risen to an inch or so. The radishes are crazy and even the potatoes are showing. If only I loved eating vegetables as much as I am enjoying growing them. It is pretty exciting watching things grow. I guess that comes to us as we get a bit older. I did lose a couple tomato plants in the frost last week but I have some new ones.

Doing It Right
I am almost always chilled. Most dialysis patients are cold during treatment as our blood cools off a bit when it leaves our bodies but some of us are always cold. I have very low hemoglobin and red blood cell counts so I am always working to get oxygen into my cells (no mask thank you). Because of this I often work with a blanket wrapped around me and when my body warms up, my brain shuts off as I fall asleep almost instantly, often for just a few minutes. Power naps.

Kidney Needed
Truckers
So I am pretty much qualified for a kidney transplant as I have been living with my cancer under control for quite some time now. But I am still a couple years from being on a donor list. I have to find a kidney to get put into my body. They will install it, but I have to find one. My blood type is ‘O Positive’ so that is a good place to start but not critical. If you have one to donate that is not a match, they can use it to trade off with someone who has one that does match me. God put 2 kidneys into each of us. Is that so we can share? I hope so.
I have to thank Tom, the gentleman that delivers my dialysis supplies every month. He brings about 30 boxes into my home with each delivery. Tom and every other truck driver out there is important to all of our well-being. They bring everything, including our food. Thank them and wish them safe journeys whenever you get the chance.
I Am This Country (From page 4) Madagascar is a fascinating island country off the coast of Africa. The capital is Antananarivo. The climate is subtropical with heavy rainy seasons from November to April.
Shortages I wonder what shortages will be coming up and how people will deal with them. There have been many incentives and restrictions making it easier for farmers to not grow crops this year. That will have a delayed effect in the grocery stores this fall. Prices will rise quickly, similar to lumber and fuel. Eventually things will get pretty dicey for many folks. I really hope that everyone is able to get through this stuff.
Where Was I? The page 6 photo shows my makeshift garden fencing project. If you look closely, it is quite hilarious really. Things look much more normal now.
Just Ask Often you just need to ask people to get something. ‘Ask and you shall receive’ is an old saying from my parents’ generation. Thank you very much to the folks who have offered material for deer fencing around my garden. I was pretty down finding deer damage in my garden every morning. A single deer was getting to the raspberry bushes for starters. I had built the funniest fence with lawn chairs, milk crates, gas cans, shovels, saw horses, rakes and more. I don’t think the landlord was very impressed. Anyways, the world is a great, giving place if you let it be so. And now I have a beautiful 8-foot deer fence around my garden.
Supply & Demand Someone should start a rumour that jobs are scarce. Maybe people would panic and run out and get one.
God is Good Since my illnesses, I have definitely become closer to God. I have had some crazy miracles in my life and would be happy to share them with anyone who would like to visit while I am on dialysis. That is my most open and free time. Lately it has been incredible how the ‘Prayer Ladies’ will show up with a message for me just when I need it most. It has made a huge difference with all the blessings.
