November 21-27, 2019 Toy Drive The 4th annual ‘Cram the Cruiser’ Toy Drive is happening this Saturday, November 23, in the parking lot at Canadian Tire. We are asked to donate a new, unwrapped toy or two by placing them into the police cruiser. The Toy Drive runs from 10 am to 4 pm. The toys will be donated to the Christmas Bureau to help bring some joy to many, many families.
Appliances I bought my wife a new fridge. Her face really lights up when she opens it.
Turkey Shoot Are you good with a pellet rifle? The Lake Windermere District Rod & gun Club is hosting their annual Turkey Shoot at the Invermere Legion this Saturday, November 23, between 11 am and 4 pm. This is a fun and challenging event. As it turns out, I am not very good with a pellet gun. The cost is $5 per shooter per round. A round consists of 5 shots at a single target. The best target total wins the turkey (10 shooters per group). Low score wins a dozen eggs.

Robservations One of the things that I like to push these days is kindness. Just being nice to each other as often as possible (always really). We see a lot of people struggling out there and sometimes we digress into a judgmental attitude. We think we know what would be best for them to do when really, we likely have no clue. Instead of standing back and watching, how about stepping forward and helping. It does not take a lot of help to change someone’s moment which in turn can change their whole day. Do it enough times and you can make a huge difference in people’s lives, including your own, Did you get that last part? If you are nice to people and make them smile, your life will change. It is out there for us to do all day. Just be nice. Be kind. Be loving. Be what humanity needs. Be the person you would love to meet and watch your circle of love and friendship grow. Feel joy in your heart on a regular basis. Be good. A huge thanks to all the folks who have taken the time to be kind to me. You all have made a difference and I hope you can feel that.
Sums it Up Some puns make me numb. Math puns make me number.

Watson’s Waddle
PET SERVICES
So Rob is pretty lenient on the leashing with me. He knows that I will not cause any trouble other than a bit of loud barking and tail-wagging. I do love to socialize and after years on a chain I have learnt to appreciate every interaction. I do feel bad for those dogs that are with owners that don’t let them meet me. Us dogs are very social animals and it is important that we learn to get along. Deer are a bit of an issue for me in this community. Up until the other day I was pretty good at charging and scaring them off. I am bred as a hunter so I can be pretty quick and dodgy when they try to stomp me. I often give them a nip on the rear leg to pursue them to leave my area. But last week I met a tough mom who seemed a bit quicker (maybe I am getting old). She managed to get a hoof up and when I veered to the side she quickly turned and stomped me. Flattened me right out on the pavement. I didn’t learn much from it as I continue to run into herds of deer. So now I feel the leash a bit more often. Rob is on the constant scan for deer on our walks. I always hope we don’t see any so I can avoid the leash.

Mental Health
TOY DRIVE CANADIAN TIRE SAT. NOVEMBER 23
I think that we are all pretty much our own enemies. A brain is a tough thing to control and it always knows you are trying, making it tougher. My brain is definitely no exception to that. I have a lot of tough, negative things in my life but I also have an amazing amount of positive things happening. This past week was great with a couple new visitors during dialysis and a couple fun events to attend. Thanks to my friends and clients who make the effort to get me out to where I need to be. Those folks change my mental health in a very positive direction. Another thing that has helped is learning to not care about a lot of insignificant things. I had a good look at mortality in the past couple of years and when they tell you that changes everything, they are right. You learn to let most things go. It is the few things that I can’t let go of easily that do cause some stress and depression. It has been an interesting journey trying ot figure out what those wonderful triggers can be.

My Progress Dialysis is carrying on pretty good for me. As long as I diligently hook up to my machine every second day for a few hours, I am feeling pretty good. It doesn’t take long to change that with a poor diet or by skipping a treatment. I am pretty happy with my progress on running the dialysis machine. The manual is 130 pages with 2 or 3 steps on each page. I go through a 200 step process in the morning to get things going. Fortunately it is going pretty smoothly as I have done it well over a hundred times now. Which is good as I have no support in this area. Very few folks understand what I am doing. Even folks in the medical industry have very little idea. Monthly I receive a pallet full of supply boxes. Everything is in sterile packaging so I generate quite a bit of waste. It does beat staring out a hospital window for every session as I see mountains and lots of people walking their dogs. It is important that I find someone to stop in and let Watson out for a pee. Thanks to everyone who has stepped up to visit for a chat, a game of cribbage or a Walkson.
Chills I just ate a frozen apple. It was hard core.

The Thrifty Reporter Well Happy Winter everyone! I think it is here to stay. The snow on the ground does add beauty to our scenery however the cold temperatures just might find you short on winter wear. This is a great time to shop at the Invermere Thrift Store and especially if you have children. I was there last weekend and found the children's clothes section spectacular with designer bunting bags for the infants and winter coats for the children. There is also a great selection of winter footwear. Don’t forget the Thrift Store stocks the shelves daily, not just for opening day on Thursday. Winter is here to stay so dress warm.
Santa Parade Invermere has a fantastic parade on Light Up day, Saturday, November 30, beginning at 4 pm. It is a great chance to put your business or organization in front of the community.

ALL YOUR FIREWOOD & WINTER NEEDS
I have been doing this home hemodialysis thing for a few months now so I am getting a good feel for how it works in my life. I am cleaning my blood every second day so that allows me to eat a bit more freely and that is nice. The tricky part is figuring out how to schedule things into my life. If I have any interest in an event I must figure out how to work dialysis around it. Days like today when I have dialysis and work to do to finish the paper are long and require a lot of concentration. No plans for any visiting today. But every once in a while I get a day with no writing, no deliveries and no dialysis (just a bit of prep for the next day). I love those days. This week it will be on the Thursday. I do look forward to Thursday but it will really just mean gathering firewood, doing laundry and a run to the transfer station. My life has really changed. Kidney failure is quite the fun vacuum. It really takes a lot of the joy out of life just to survive.
Canadian Sports Trivia Answer 2019 will be the 9th time that the Hamilton Tiger Cats have faced the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Grey Cup Final. Winnipeg won the last one 47-17 in 1984 with Hamilton winning the previous game 22-16 in 1965. Overall the Blue Bombers are up 5 wins to 3. They met 7 times between 1952 and 1965.

It Was That Year (From page 4) In 1946, the baby boom began. A house cost $5,600, a car was $1,120 and the average annual income was $2,500. The Mensa Society was created and the San Francisco 49ers football team formed.

Landscapes I have a chicken-proof lawn. It is impeccable.
Happy Patients The Invermere hospital was down to just one working ice machine. As a regular hospital patient I know how important a glass of ice water can be. Thanks to the Fairmont Lions for their contribution to this cause. The have partnered with the East Kootenay Health Foundation to purchase a new machine for Invermere. The machine is on its way. I am not really looking forward to using it. Haha.

Dragon’s Done Congratulations to the Taynton Bav Distillery team for their success on Dragon’s Den. They worked a deal with one of the Dragons that will help them reach a much broader client base here in Canada. A great reward for all the hard work they have put into this. Their beverages are apparently quite tasty. Try them below the Station Neighbourhood Pub.

Christmas Lights
When you are attending events that you saw in The Valley Peak make sure you let them know where you saw it. Selling ads is how I afford to put this little paper in print. My printing costs are over $3,000 per month. I get a lot of groups asking for free coverage while they pay for other forms of advertising. It really frustrates me as I know The Valley Peak makes a huge difference at many events. So yes, please support my advertisers and please let them and others know where you saw them.
I am a bit of an oddity in the world of Christmas decorations. I am not a huge fan of decorating indoors but I love outdoor light displays. Anyone going by can enjoy them. Last year my house and deck were wellcovered but this year I have to change it up a bit. I have a barge parked out front and it is perfect for covering with lights. I got started the other day but I will wait a few days before I get everything all lit up. Thanks to all the folks who put up displays for us to enjoy.
Murder Mystery
One of the nice features of doing dialysis in the mornings is that I get to watch the sun rise. I am very blessed as Watson and I are out for a quick walk before I get hooked up. Clear, cool mornings generally give us some beautiful stars to contemplate. A cloudier morning is often a bit warmer. Regardless, thanks to Watson for getting me out there a few times a day. And thanks to those who help with that when I am on dialysis.
We attended the ‘Drop Dead Disco’ murder mystery dinner at the Flats Venue & Stage last weekend. We were greeted at the door by the disco ‘owner’ Ester, a talented and entertaining lady. After an amazing dinner from the Viibrant Earth Café, we were to discover that Ester actually killed her brother Pauly to get control of the disco. Thanks to the volunteer, local cast who did a wonderful job with their performances. Great job by Kelly and Kate to bring these great events to the Venue. Watch for the ‘Arcana Kings’ featuring Johnny McQuaig coming up in December.
Daybreak
Top Trivia Team The Wednesday Night Trivia at the Station Neighbourhood Pub is a pretty fun adventure. Last week my team managed to pull off a win so that lets you know how weak the competition can be. It is always fun learning what the correct answers were supposed to be. Many times I am embarrassed to have not remembered. That is part of the fun. Every Wednesday at 7 pm, come on down to the pub and try your luck. Teams of up to 6 players pay $3 per player for an awesome evening.
Christmas Dinner My kids have said that they would like a kitten for Christmas. Normally I do turkey but whatever it takes.
