Five Amazing Years October 1 is a big day in my world. This is the 5-year anniversary of Watson coming into my life. I have been looking back through old papers and his first column, ‘Watson’s Waddle’, began in November of 2015. That is how quickly Watson became a part of my soul. We had 2 incredible years together before I became ill. I had never thought my heart could become so open so quickly. I really appreciate that he has hung in for the past 3 years with the walks being so much shorter and less frequent. Thanks to the folks that have helped with that. Here’s praying for a few more years together. Watson seems to be very happy and healthy still but maybe a bit slower out and about plus having a bit more trouble getting in and out of the vehicles. I can’t imagine.

Another Huge Anniversary October 1 is a huge day for me. It is the day I began the journey of The Valley Peak. Back in 2007. Thanks to Steve at The Local View for the opportunity. This has been a dream career (I make very little money) as I have lived a full, active life here in the valley. TVP has put me out into many social events that I otherwise would have not attended. It has enabled me to learn a lot about the inner workings of the valley. There are very many amazing people here. It has also allowed me to support many businesses and organizations by promoting awareness and teamwork. Thanks to all of my advertising clients. Especially those that have hung in there for more than 13 years.

By now everyone who drives in the valley has realized there is a delay crossing the Athalmer Bridge. It is being resurfaced. The job is a long one and will take several weeks. It is all about timing for going through there. I have seen some very long lineups in both directions. Many folks have been taking Westside Rd. Be patient folks.

As always, this is a tough column to get on paper. My brain is in constant motion and there are so many things that I want to talk about but so much of it is very touchy subjects in today’s world. I am very grateful to all the folks who email and call me to say they agree with my opinions 100% and are thankful that I have been willing to speak out a bit. The call this morning said he hoped that one day I would really let loose. I also enjoy the opposing views that I receive. They often come in a harsher, moreinsulting format, but not always. But they bring about a bit of discussion and ignite some thought processes in my brain so it is a good thing. I meet a lot of folks who have very strong feelings about things but feel that their professional or work life would be negatively affected if they spoke up a bit more often. That is too bad that we have to be afraid of having an open opinion. People are afraid of being attacked just for being honest. I have to admit that even I hold back a lot of thoughts. Sometimes it is just not worth being attacked over. The fact that you can be attacked for saying ’All Lives Matter’, which actually includes all people, is pathetic.

ESP Have you seen me tie my shoelaces with the power of my mind? I thought knot.

Prime Rib Dinner The Invermere Legion is offering one of their premiere meals this week. They have Prime Rib Dinner scheduled for Wednesday, October 7, at 6:30 pm. The Legion is also open Thursday to Saturday, 4-9 pm. This includes meat and 50/50 draws on Fridays and Saturdays.

Food Pantry Thanks to the couple ladies who have dropped off some goods for the 24 hour community Food Pantry located at 1313 10 St. (near Laird). There has definitely been some use of the pantry. It is set up so that anyone can take food from it but it does require people putting food into it. I am hoping that several community members take the time to check it out and contribute some goods on occasion. It is a great way to add to the kindness in the world.

Watson’s Waddle I am at the age where getting some rest is as important as anything. That is why I love that there are 5 dog beds to choose from in this house. That suits me just fine. I have the uncanny ability to fall asleep almost instantly. As soon as I know I am around folks that I can trust and I see that they are tired of paying any attention to me, I am down and out. Part of all this is that I need to be ready for action at all times. I do not dare miss a walk or a car ride, or even worse, dinnertime or treats. I have the ability to be wide awake and ready to go on a moment’s notice. My favourite bed is pretty close to the front door so it is impossible to get out of that house without me tagging along. I am tuned to the sound of shoes being put on or keys coming off the rack. My favourite move is the ability to wake up from a nap to go to bed. I let Rob share his king size bed with me and it is one of my favourite spots to be. Speaking of favourite places, this week marks the 5-year anniversary since I left PAWS in Creston to rescue Rob. It has been amazing to see the difference I have made in that poor soul’s life. Good job to all the other dogs doing the same thing.

I have to go for a lot of bloodwork, mostly for my kidney failure and dialysis. But every 3 months I also have to go for cancer bloodwork. That happened last month and I met with a cancer specialist last week. It is always a scary time. This round, the results have been incredible. All of my cancer numbers are the lowest (best) since this started. That is huge news for me. I am still taking vitamin D, turmeric, lemon water, omega 3 and cannabis oil. I have also tried to cut out sugar and bump up water consumption.

Fear Hurts I am not a big fan of masks. Many people aren’t and millions of citizens around the world are protesting more and more. In Italy, they are disbanding one third of their government due to lockdowns corruption. I don’t know how someone could be convinced to wear a mask when walking outdoors by themselves or while alone in a car. It just makes no sense. They have done a great job convincing people that even though they have zero symptoms, they are likely a carrier that will kill everyone else. It is insane. What is really sad is the fear I see in people’s eyes. It is like they think every other person is out to kill them with novid, the pathetic weak virus that has been built up by the media. My Mom is scared to death and will be living out the rest of her years sheltered in her place, afraid of people. That hurts. We all have our own opinions and I wish that everyone would put a bit more effort into research rather than just listening to CBC in Canada.

Oktoberfun Last Saturday was ‘Oktoberfest’ in Invermere. Unfortunately the market and beer gardens were cancelled due to covid fears, but the District of Invermere and Home Hardware carried on with the mobile Oktoberfest music. They had a flatdeck stage with live music that travelled through the neighbourhoods of Invermere. I would like to thank them for the visit to my area. We had a few folks with a fire pit and bratties going out in the driveway. They stopped for a couple of songs. It was a great example of community spirit.

It Was That Year (From page 4) In 1937 a house cost $4,100, a new car was $760 and the average annual income was $1,780. The Golden Gate Bridge was opened, Daffy Duck was introduced and the United States introduced the ‘Marijuana Tax Act’, beginning the process of the criminalization of marijuana.

Inspiration Many thanks to Avery, Tate, Olin and Curtis for helping me out with firewood. They are amazing gentlemen and very inspiring to chat with. They definitely see the value in kindness and honesty and have reminded me to do better myself. God bless them and all others.

throughout the year. This year the water levels got very high in all lakes and rivers and Windermere Lake was at a really high peak this year. There was very little shoreline that Watson and I could walk without having to wade in a few spots. But now it is really low. We can walk almost anywhere along the lake as there is a lot of shoreline. It reminds me a bit of the high and low tides in the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia. Some of the boats that are buoyed along shore are very close to being grounded. Every time I walk along the shore I am reminded of how blessed we are to have such a beautiful body of water right here.

Work Clothes Everyone who works outdoors or in construction knows about Carhartt workwear clothing. Columbia Valley Trading Company offers the best prices and the best selection in the valley. Stop in at Frater Landing and check out all the great products in the store.

Thanks Again Thank you for all the support of The Valley Peak. The copies have been leaving the racks quickly and the ad space is filled up nicely. I appreciate all the nice emails also.
