July Beach DCM and Beach Clean-Up at Dockweiler Beach!

Initiation As summer begins to end, and the school year slowly creeps behind let us, as model Key Clubbers make the best of the last days of summer. It is not too late to volunteer into events and organizations. Maybe even set up an end of summer dance. We need to stay dedicated and not stress out about school just yet. Let’s make Key Club as our source for stress relief. Summer doesn’t last forever, but the memories you made this summer with Key Club can help you go through another year of hard work in school. However, we should make it our mission to be able to recruit people into Key Club next year. Whether they may be incoming freshmen, new students or just people who were too shy to join before, let’s welcome them with open jaws and be the welcoming Sharkeys that we know we are.

This month I have been volunteering at the ACTS Thrift Store in Pasadena with my fellow John Marhshall Key Club members. Most of us have been taking the bus there and back, but it’s all fine since the trip is worth it. Volunteering has been extremely fun. The workers there are quite benevolent and just so welcoming. In fact, they were so nice that they even bought us lunch from In-n-Out. I remember one of the employees saying, “We have so many volunteers today. They even came all the way from Los Feliz.” We have been cleaning the items, sorting them out, bagging, and pricing them. I had this job that dealt with toys and it was just so fun. I kept thinking about how happy a child would be when they’ll play with these toys. It’s just an exhilarating feeling. Also, not only we’re just working, we’re also bonding with one another. With ACTS, monthly DCMs, and many more, I thank Key Club for giving me the summer I’ve always wanted. – Chrisline Raymundo

I was REALLY REALLY excited about this DCM, because it was gonna be at the beach! I had a hard time falling asleep due to all the excitement aha! Anyways, I had an incredible time at the July Beach DCM for Division 3 Key Club located at Dockweiler Beach! Of course, anything to do with Key Club is usually fun, but the beach gave us a breath of fresh air and some everlasting memories. It was nice seeing fellow key clubbers from local schools. After we set up, the presidents gave their reports. It was actually entertaining to listen to the president's reports because one of them actually rapped it out aha. I am so glad I joined Key Club. It shows me a wonderful time while being able to help others. We did a beach clean up right before we ate dinner, so it was not all about socializing with one another. It was such a fun filled day from the very beginning. I had a fun time swimming and getting thrashed by the ocean waves! l I was also able to bury a friend, play some football, socialize with other members, find sand crabs, and have pure enjoyment of chillaxing by the ocean while music is playing. Although we were not able to have a bonfire, I still enjoyed it to the fullest. I am glad that I was able to attend and can't wait for our next events and DCMS! – Marion Barleta

Member Recognition Member of the Month!!! John Marshall High School’s Key Club proudly recognizes Trisha Magbanua as Member of the Month. She is always eager to participate in all events and goes the extra mile to provide transportation to those in need. Officer of the Month!!! Stephanie Bonifacio was selected for John Marshall High School’s Officer of the Month. She has been one of the most cheerful and devoted officers and members since the beginning of her involvement with Key Club. She constantly spreads her contagious enthusiasm and love for the club by participating in as many events as possible and by just being herlighthearted-self. Successfully living up to the title as John Marshall Key Club’s Spirit Chair, Stephanie continuously urges members to attend any and all Key Club-related functions by publicizing amusement alongside significance. She never fails to bring about joy and cheerfulness among others with her charming and high-spirited personality. Stephanie does her job with ease as she is certainly cut out for her position, which has guaranteed her spot as Officer of the Month. Written by Vice President, Joela Canlas
