The Kiwanis Great Duck Splash!
A word from our President… Introduction – Page 1 October is close to ending and I can’t express how proud I am of everyone in Key Club. From my Board of Officers to the members who show up to every meeting, you guys make it worth being President. I hope you guys have as much fun in Key Club as I do and I really want to see more of you at our events. That way, I can get to know each one of you better and at least be on a first-name basis. I feel that my duty as President isn’t just to arrange events for people to go to or negotiate with the adults, but more of making sure that you realize how much Key Club does for you and the community. I think that if I can get you to love Key Club the way I do, my job is done. At our recent meeting, I forgot to mention that John Marshall took the prize of being the Club of Month for August in Division 3. I want you guys to know that it’s because of your dedication that brought us to that spot. Even though we may not receive the award every month, I know that we are the club of the month every month. No other club can compare to the spirit that we have and the familial bonds that we made with one another. I think that’s the true criteria of being club of the month. I feel like I’ve adopted every one of you into my Key Club Family and I hope that we get to bond throughout the year. With that set aside, I’m pumped for Fall Rally and I hope you all are too! If or when you attend Fall Rally, you’ll see how we (D3) do and you’ll really experience this thing we call Sharkey love. I can’t wait to see familiar faces, meet new ones, and definitely win that coveted Spirit Stick. D3 has gone on long enough without that trophy and we plan on winning it this year! So when we’re at the Spirit Rally, I want to hear everyone scream their lungs out just like I do at every meeting. Until then, I hope to see you at school on the ramp, in the halls or wherever. And don’t be afraid to say hi! If I don’t remember your name on the spot, just say it and I’ll be sure to remember it the next time we meet.
With Sharkey Love, Baltazar Jonnel Dasalla

“HEY KEY CLUB, HOW DO YOU FEEL?!” “I FEEL GOOD, OH I FEEL SO GOOD! I FEEL FINE, FINE ALL THE TIME! ABOOGA ABOOGA ABOOGA-BOOGA-BOOGA!” I can clearly remember those chants ringing throughout West Hollywood Park on the beautiful day of the 27th Annual AIDS WALK. A massive group of energetic and proud D3 SHARKEYS invaded, and I say that with immense emphasis, the nearby jungle-gym in order to meet and prepare for the day’s events. From every corner of the area, a great “harmony” of voices could be heard exclaiming the D3 pride. Constantly, heads from other groups could be seen turning in the direction of these Sharkeys. These were not looks of annoyance or embarrassment, but rather of admiration and satisfaction. I, myself, also had these same looks of excitement as I was observing my fellow D3 Sharkeys. Not only was I incredibly ecstatic to be at the AIDS Walk, but also to be a part of my new Key Club “family”; having used to be a Division 29 member for 2 years prior. Having to walk alongside my new “family” seemed to be fantastic: meeting members from other schools and chanting with one another. If you were there, you could constantly feel and see this group beaming with immense pride. As I was walking alongside this group, I realized that I am happy to be a D3 Sharkey. Now, ahead of us, is the upcoming, greatly anticipated, Fall Rally. On that exciting day, I shall stand alongside my fellow D3 Sharkeys and scream at the top of my lungs “RAH! LIKE A D3 SHARKEY!!!!!” -Jarred Joseph Gonzaga
To be honest, my experience in Key Club was extremely amazing, yet a little surprising for me. I never expected to love it this much as well as it to be this fun. Meeting all these new people has really made an impact in my life. I have made so many new friends within these two months after joining this "family". Although I haven't even been to any of the events yet, I can tell that Key Club really does care about the community and wants to help it as much as they can. I always get excited for Wednesday meetings during lunch at the Big Gym. I'm always fascinated on what not only our President Baltazar has to say, but all of the other board members too. Haha, I hope one day I'll get to be like one of them. Key Club has truly become my new family that I have come to be in. I can't wait for what the next four years will have in store for me as a fellow D3 SHARKEY ABOOGA~ -Janine Raymundo
Member Recognition Member of the Month!!! As Member of the Month, Jeff Clemente has exhibited more participation in Key Club than he ever has before. He has without a doubt become a dedicated member, especially over the summer of 2011. Jeff attended a majority of the events in this term and has demonstrated his involvement by taking part in a majority of the latest social and volunteer events. He has definitely made Key Club events all the more enjoyable as he never fails to bring about his humor and enthusiasm. Just this month, Jeff has spent an ample amount of his time volunteering at events such as the Ronald McDonald Charity House (pictured above), AIDS Walk and ACTS Thrift Store. His outstanding involvement with and attitude toward Key Club has assured this recognition as October’s Member of the Month. Written by Vice President Joela Canlas
Officer of the Month!!! John Marshall High’s Key Club proudly recognizes the newly appointed Treasurer, Jorge Lopez, as Officer of the Month. Jorge’s involvement with the club first began toward the end of the last term and has continued into the present. He has kept up with all the latest events as he is determined to show that he is fit for the position as Treasurer. During this Month, Jorge has certainly reassured himself as reliable by attended volunteer events such as the Eagle Rock Music Festival and AIDS Walk. Being the newest in John Marshall’s Board, he has gotten acquainted with everyone pretty quickly. Jorge is great when it comes to dealing with members and keeping up with all things monetarily-related, as this month in particular has been hectic with Key Club dues and Fall Rally. His tremendous involvement and dedication to Key Club has guaranteed this accreditation as October’s Officer of the Month. Written by Vice President Joela Canlas
