Drama GCSE Revision Year 10 Exams The written Drama exam will last for 50 minutes in the main examination hall and will be based on the play Burning Monkey. You will need pens, pencils, rubber, pencil sharpener and ruler. An unmarked copy of the play will be provided for you. There is a revision page on Fronter containing past papers, useful web links and other useful resources. Your Drama teacher will add further content on request if there something else you feel you would find useful. Suggested revision activities: 1. Re-‐read the whole play 2. Re-‐visit and add to role-‐on-‐the-‐wall diagrams for Monkey, Shell and Old. Create character profiles for all the characters so you have an idea of how they should be performed from an actor’s point of view. 3. Have a costume design collage/mood board for each character annotated with reasons for your choices 4. Look at the photo resource on Fronter and practice analysing and describing what each of the actors in the pictures is doing with their face/body. Try to use a range of vocabulary and be detailed when describing what you notice. 5. Draw and label all 4 stage types from memory (including labels for stage, audience, entrances and exits for the actors) 6. Create sketches / notes for the set design of the play. Make sure you decide how you would create a sense of location and/or atmosphere for each scene. 7. Practise explaining how you would use lighting, set, sound, costume, make-‐up, prop etc. to create key moments in the play. 8. Revise vocabulary relating to technical elements of production (lighting, set, sound) 9. Revisit and re-‐read everything in your yellow book in order to add to your glossary. You will need to use of full range of Drama language in your exam. 10. Make notes about how you would stage each scene in the play if you were directing it, referring to proxemics and semiotics (think about the meaning you are creating)
