Southern Entrance

We would like to remind parents and carers that the gate at the southern entrance will be locked at 08:23 each morning. Students arriving after this time should enter via the main entrance in Cricklefield Place.

Safeguarding

The welfare and safety of our students is our priority. We do everything possible to ensure our studentsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; safety, both within the school community and outside of school, including working with relevant agencies to address any issues related to child protection. Students are informed of who they should go to should they have a concern about their own safety or the safety of others. At INA, all staff have regular safeguarding training to ensure that they are able to meet their statutory responsibilities. We also have a number of staff who are designated to respond to any child protection concerns and to liaise with social services:

Dear Parents and Carers, At the start of next week you will receive an email from the school asking you to complete a survey monkey parent questionnaire to give some feedback to us about the quality of education you believe your child is getting at INA. By clicking on the link you can access the questionnaire which is quick and simple to complete. If you would like to leave a written Â comment at the end you have the option to do so. It would be very helpful, if you do take the time to write a comment, if you include your name so that we can contact you to get more information and/or to feed back to you. If you have more than one child at the school you may want to complete the questionnaire for each one. However you will need to log in from a separate email account each time you complete it. Please would you complete the questionnaire by Friday 24th March. I should like to thank you in advance for your support with this. We issue the parent questionnaire each spring and the feedback is incredibly useful to us. Year 11 Exam evening Tuesday 14th March 6.00-7.00pm Attendance is required by parents/carers and Year 11 students

Parents/carers and all Year 11 students are required to attend an exam meeting on Tuesday 14th March from 6.00-7.00pm. During this meeting students and parents/carers will be required to collect and sign documents that will allow the finalisation of exam entries.

Y10 students are thinking about Work Experience placements. They want to gain experience that will support them with their future careers. Can you support them by offering a placement at your place of work? We need placements in all work areas for 5 consecutive days from 3rd-7th July 2017. Year 7 Progress meeting is calendared for Monday 13th March 2017 from 2:30-6:30pm. All students will complete lessons P1 – 4a (Year 10 and Year 11 students will complete lesson 4a as per KS3 timings). P4a will finish for all students at 1:05pm. Students will return to tutor groups from 1:05-1:15pm. Students who are eligible for Free School Meals who request lunch in advance (via form tutors) can collect a lunch bag from the KS3 desk area as they leave. Tutors will escort students to the KS3 gate at 1:15 where students are expected to go directly home. Year 7 students will return between 2:30-6:30pm with parents/carers/adult family member. Students are expected to attend with an adult family member in full school uniform. The progress meeting will take place in the KS3 Hall. The last appointment is 6:25pm for a 6:30pm finish. Staff will set independent learning for Years 8, 9,10 and 11 in advance for P5 and p6. The school will be closed to Years 8, 9, 10 and 11 from 1:15. Enrichments and detentions will not take place. Praise and Recognition

At INA, we aim to provide a stimulating, challenging and rewarding learning environment which supports learning, celebrates achievement and encourages everyone. Awarding merits, informal praise in class and the end of term awards assemblies are all part of this. Please speak to your child/children on a regular basis to see how many merits they have and how they are working towards the different awards on offer.

Merits

We have just passed the halfway point of the Spring term, and it has been a great start to the merit race! A massive well done to all the students who have worked hard to get merits so far! Remember that there are merit awards for gaining 25/50/100/150 merits over the academic year, so set yourself a target to achieve! Also your merits help push your form up to the top of the leader-board, so it will be interesting to see which form wins in each year group this term! If you are owed merits, make sure you do remember to get them and good luck! YEAR 7

Ahmed Al-Khafaji Award (Peer Commendation Award) Ahmed was well known for being kind, for helping others and for being extremely polite. He was also someone known for his hard work and absorption. The idea, therefore, is that the winner should be someone who encapsulated one of these qualities in that week. This will be held at the Woolston Manor Country Club in Chigwell, Essex and will be a great celebration of the hard work of our Year 11 students as they prepare to take the next steps in their education. In the final week of term, we will be holding our second set of awards assemblies of the year. This is an opportunity for the staff, students, governors and parents/carers to formally celebrate our students’ achievements at the end of the spring term. There will be a separate assembly for each year group. Please note the dates and times as follows:

We believe that it is important that every student is represented by a parent at the Awards Assembly for their year group and would like to invite one parent to attend on behalf of the family. If you would like to attend, please ask your son/daughter to collect a ticket for the awards assembly from his/her form tutor. Please request your ticket by Monday 20th March. Due to limited capacity, we are unable to accommodate very many additional family members. Resilience Jasvinder Sanghera, CBE

J�� S��, CBE, was born and brought up in Derby. A survivor of a forced marriage, she is the founder of Karma Nirvana, an award winning charity that supports both men and women affected by honour based abuse and forced marriages. At the age of fourteen, Jasvinder refused to marry a man in India she had only seen in a photo and had to ﬂee the family home. Jasvinder struggled for years, sometimes living on the streets. She she showed tremendous resilience and patience and is a true survivor, with great inner strength. Jasvinder is now a highly acclaimed international speaker, an expert advisor to the courts. Her work is recognised as being pivotal to the creation of a specific UK forced marriage criminal offence in 2014. Her memoir ‘Shame’ is a Times Top 10 Bestseller.

Charity at Isaac Newton Academy In the run up to the spring holiday, our charity council at Isaac Newton Academy are having a drive to collect goods for a local foodbank. This is a wonderful opportunity for the INA community to help support the most vulnerable people in our wider local community. From now until the last day of term, each form room will have a box for the collection of donated goods from members of the form. It would be great if students could look for any extra goods that may be donated to a good cause and bring them in for the collection. Particularly suitable goods are: ✽✽ Tinned Meats ✽✽ Tinned Fish ✽✽ Milk (UHT/Powdered) ✽✽ Tinned Rice Pudding ✽✽ Fruit Juice (Long Life) ✽✽ Toiletries (e.g. Soap/ Toothpaste) ✽✽ Nappies (Size 5 & 6) ✽✽ Perishable goods cannot be collected. Rochester Trip 2017

Every year, the Humanities and English Department run a trip to Rochester, one of Englandâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s best known Norman cities. By now your child should have brought a letter home with all the information about the trip. The trip costs ÂŁ12 and includes entry to the castle, cathedral and return coach travel.

On Friday 28th April, 7N, 7E, 7W and students in 7C with surnames A-K will attend. On Monday 8th May 7I, 7S and 7A and students in 7C with surnames M-V will attend.

YOUTH CONFERENCE On the 23rd of February the Prefects attended a youth conference and Mulberry School for Girls in Tower Hamlets, the theme of the conference was ‘young voices unite’. It was an early start as we left school at 7:30am! When we arrived the eight panellists introduced themselves and gave speeches on the work they have done and what they believe in. One panellist of particular note was Annie Zaidi, a female football coach who has broken down various barriers to develop into an elite football coach. Another inspirational speaker was Ife Grillo, a young man from Hackney that has represented Great Britain in debating. We had the opportunity to submit questions for the panellists during a Q&A. There were also various discussion groups that really enjoyable as we were able to cover topics that we were interested in such as lower the voting age to sixteen. At the end of the day we were giving the chance to take part in different workshops, such as; ‘first response’ (responding to the threat of terrorism), building bridges not walls and interfaith skills. I took part in ‘refugees, migrants and asylum’ where we learnt about the current situation in the Middle East and what we could do to help. It was also really interesting to meet students from other schools around England and find out more about what it like in sixth form. At the end of the day, students gave very inspirational speeches on topics such as feminism. Overall, attending the conference was an extremely valuable experience as we continue to develop our leadership skills. Ishani 10s

This week in P.E. YEAR 10 BASKETBALL TEAM MAKE DISTRICT SEMI-FINALS First of all I would like to congratulate the Year 10 students for the passion and enthusiasm they showed by coming into school on the Independent Learning day to play their quarter final match against Palmer. This was a very competitive game which stayed close all the way into the 4th quarter. The first quarter was of very high intensity. Khiran Patel finished all his lay ups successfully, giving INA a 6 point lead. During the 2nd quarter we were hit with injury and Mason Pickton had to come off. The team really stepped up in his absence and maintained the lead at the end of the half. At the end of the 3rd quarter there was only 4 points between the teams which led to a very competitive and tense 4th quarter. The team rallied together to play the 4th quarter and secure a place in the semi-final. Excellent all round play from Jonah Robinson and Haile Richards, matched with great defensive play from Djevia Elliel in the 4th quarter, kept Palmer at bay and secured a 6 point win. YEAR 7 GAIN GREAT WIN AGAINST FOREST ACADEMY Congratulations to the Year 7 Girls’ netball team who managed to pull off a great victory against Forest School whilst keeping a clean sheet! 4 goals from Sakinah Choudhury and 3 from Samirah Ali saw the girls win 7-0. The squad have shown great development over the last few matches. Well done to Zainab Dar, Khushi Pathak, Savanna Duncan- Hinds, Serena Sandhu, Mariya Osman, Symran Kalley (voted player of the match), Nikita Odedra, Sakinah Choudhury, Samirah Ali.
