Southern Entrance
We would like to remind parents and carers that the gate at the southern entrance will be locked at 08:23 each morning. Students arriving after this time should enter via the main entrance in Cricklefield Place.
Safeguarding The welfare and safety of our students is our priority. We do everything possible to ensure our students’ safety, both within the school community and outside of school, including working with relevant agencies to address any issues related to child protection. Students are informed of who they should go to should they have a concern about their own safety or the safety of others. At INA, all staff have regular safeguarding training to ensure that they are able to meet their statutory responsibilities. We also have a number of staff who are designated to respond to any child protection concerns and to liaise with social services: Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) Leanne Abbott-Jones Assistant Principal Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) Tam Broadway Primary Headteacher Sugra Alibhai Head of Sixth Form Designated Child Protection Officers Patrick Ball (Online safety) Pardeep Chaggar Jody Lapish Gareth Marshall-Jones
Mariam Mayet Amreen Patel Jag Singh David Wilson
vYou can find the INA Safeguarding policy, Child Protection policy and other related policies and procedures on the Academy’s website.

Dear Parents and Carers, On Wednesday and Thursday evenings this week we were treated to the most fabulous production of ‘Hairspray’. The show was packed full of great songs, amazing acting and wonderful choreography. It was an impressive team effort, from actors, dancers, musicians, staff and Year 7 to 10 students. Thank you so much to all of the staff who worked so hard on the production and for giving up so much of their time, especially Ms Watkins, Mr Morgan, Ms Epler, Ms Zembron, Ms Robson, and Mr Short. It was a very entertaining show! This week, senior staff have been completing options interviews with Year 9 students. We have been blown away by their reflectiveness, maturity, the thought that they are put into the decisions they are making and how well they are articulating their decisions. We have had a record number of applications to sixth form this year: nearly 400! All of the Year 11 students who have applied will be invited to attend an interview with their parents on Friday 8th March. This is an Independent Learning Day for all other students. This is followed by an INSET Day on Monday 11th when INA staff will be moderating Spring 2 assessments alongside their Ark counterparts.
With all best wishes,
Jo Spencer

TOP TIPS: Students
Sir Isaac Newton [1643 - 1727] Sir Isaac Newton was an English physicist, mathematician, astronomer, natural philosopher, alchemist and theologian. He is considered by many to be the greatest and most influential scientist who ever lived. He made connections between the world of maths, physics and astrology to propose the three laws of motion. He also invented the mathematical branch of calculus, proved light was made up of a spectrum of all colours, designed the reflecting telescope (which we still mostly use today) and is even rumoured to be the inventor of the cat flap! Newton had an incredible memory which enabled him to produce work at an extraordinary level. He also kept meticulous notes (a technique he used for remembering and making connections) using a logical filing system which made them easy to find.

Praise and Recognition At INA, we aim to provide a stimulating, challenging and rewarding learning environment which supports learning, celebrates achievement and encourages everyone. Awarding merits, informal praise in class and the end of term awards assemblies are all part of this. Please speak to your child/children on a regular basis to see how many merits they have and how they are working towards the different awards at school.
Merits The inter-form merit competition is heating up – with more and more merits being given out each week. Each merit you gain will increase your individual total and also your form’s overall total. So make sure you are keeping up the fantastic work to gain merits! Also if you are owed a merit go and collect it and make sure it gets recorded on your form’s spreadsheet! YEAR 7

Ahmed was well known for being kind, for helping others and for being extremely polite. He was also someone known for his hard work and absorption; the idea, therefore, is that the winner should be someone who encapsulated one of these qualities in that week. INA Attendance and Punctuality Regular attendance is a crucial factor in students’ educational development and success in achieving their full potential. Missing out on education and learning leaves students vulnerable to falling behind, putting them under unnecessary pressure. At Isaac Newton Academy every student is expected to maintain 100% attendance.
Punctuality All students need to be present on site and ready for line up no later than 8.25am each day and as such we advise students to be through the school gates (side entrance and southern entrance) no later than 8.23am.
Reporting of child’s absence In line with INA attendance policy it is the parent/ carers responsibility to phone the school by 8.15am on each day of an absence. If you fail to contact the school to inform us of your child’s absence we may take the necessary steps to ensure your child is safe. Please take the time to familiarise yourself with the INA Attendance policy.

Sports Report INA – BOCCIA CHAMPIONS On Wednesday 16th January, nine students went to compete at the Boccia tournament at Frenford Club Centre in Ilford. There were three teams – an ‘A’ team, a ‘B’ team and a ‘C’ team. We all played three legs then whoever won went through to the next round. The ‘A’ team from INA was Reemez 11T, Ram 9W and Keshan 10S. The ‘B’ team was Kareem 8S, Inayah 10I and Sanaan 11I, and the ‘C’ team was made up of Ayaan 9S, Robert 8I and Adil 8A.
In the tournament we played against different schools. Some of the schools we played were quite challenging, especially Valentine’s Park and Seven Kings. I felt quite nervous and scared because we might lose and not make the semi-finals. But all three teams got through the semis and we had to compete against each other. I felt very nervous because I didn’t want to compete against my friends, but we worked hard to try and not get knocked out of the competition. The ‘B’ team and the ‘A’ team had to compete against each other, and the ‘A’ and ‘C’ teams had a very close game on the last leg. Then it was the finals – which INA ‘B’ and ‘C’ teams got through to, and it was intense. But the match went very well and the ‘B’ team won against the ‘C’ team, before they then had to compete against Newbury Park to get 1st place and win. After three legs the INA ‘B’ team were the winners and INA ‘C’ team won bronze medals. Well done to all the INA Teams! Reporter - Kareem Beckett-Edwards 8S 8 February 2019 Secondary Newsletter
