Southern Entrance
We would like to remind parents and carers that the gate at the southern entrance will be locked at 08:23 each morning. Students arriving after this time should enter via the main entrance in Cricklefield Place.
Safeguarding The welfare and safety of our students is our priority. We do everything possible to ensure our students’ safety, both within the school community and outside of school, including working with relevant agencies to address any issues related to child protection. Students are informed of who they should go to should they have a concern about their own safety or the safety of others. At INA, all staff have regular safeguarding training to ensure that they are able to meet their statutory responsibilities. We also have a number of staff who are designated to respond to any child protection concerns and to liaise with social services: Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) Leanne Abbott-Jones Assistant Principal Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) Tam Broadway Primary Headteacher Sugra Alibhai Head of Sixth Form Designated Child Protection Officers Patrick Ball (Online safety) Pardeep Chaggar Jody Lapish Gareth Marshall-Jones

Dear Parents and Carers, Our GCSE exams come to end on Friday this week. We have been incredibly impressed with the level of focus and resilience the Year 11s have shown and how hard they have worked during the exam period. We are very proud of them and look forward to seeing them and celebrating their success on exam results & sixth form enrolment day on Thursday 22nd August. The senior team have been conducting home visits for the new Year7s, prior to their transition day on 27th June. It has been a great pleasure to meet the new students and their families, many of whom are siblings of students already at INA. Next Friday 21st June and the following Monday 23rd June are INSET Days. There will be no school for students on these days. Finally, just a reminder that our all-through Summer Fayre takes place on Saturday 6th July between 12.00 and 4.00pm at the secondary site. FOINA (Friends of INA), alongside Ms Broadway, Head of Primary, are working very hard in preparation for this exciting event. We would love to see as many of you there on the day to have fun with your family and help raise funds for the school community. As well as your support on the day, we are looking for any parents who would like to help volunteer and run an activity or stall. We would also be delighted to receive donations of items that can be sold on stalls: food items –such as cakes, cupcakes, biscuits, crisps, bottles of water or juice and paper cups & plates, books or unwanted gifts. A letter was sent home to parents of Years 7-10 this week which contained further details of how you can get involved.
With all best wishes,

Messages from MFL Year 7-8 languages options Our current Year 7 students will soon have the opportunity to choose a language of their choice to carry on studying in Year 8 and beyond. A letter will be coming out week beginning Monday 25th June regarding the process. Encourage your son/ daughter to think carefully before making their language choice for Year 8. They may have to consider for example the language that they have made the most progress in. We do not guarantee that students will get their first choice language. All reply slips should be handed to Mr Kejem (Head of MFL) or to Ms Coates (2ic for MFL). The deadline for return slip is Tuesday, 2nd July. Do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further information. Monsieur Kejem, Head of MFL
Year 10 GCSE French & Spanish Orals Year 10 End of Year Orals for languages have been scheduled to take place as from Tuesday 25th to Friday 28th June 2018. We are currently working on the timetable and your child will be informed of their day and time of their exam. Please encourage them to revise and practise at home as this would help them to perform well at this very important examination. This also gives them a good opportunity to prepare for their GCSE speaking examination next year. The format of their Year 10 orals will reflect the actual speaking exams that they will be sitting next year in Year 11. Wednesday 26th June is Year 10 Sports Day. However, speaking examinations will still take place on this day during periods 1 to 3. It is compulsory that all students attend. Thanking you in anticipation for your support with this. Monsieur Kejem, Head of MFL 14 June 2019

Sadiq Khan
“If you can’t be honest and candid with our best friend it’s not really our best friend.” - Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London The big story in the news last week was President Trump’s state visit to the UK. A state visit is when the Queen, activing on the advice of the government, formally invites a leader from another country. Some people have the view that President Trump was democratically elected by the people of the USA. With this in mind, and considering the UK and USA are close allies, they see the state visit as justified.
Students w
Other people think that President Trump should not have been invited. This is because they disagree with his views and policies, arguing they are discriminatory or divisive and go against our British Values. The situation raised questions about honesty. A big part of honesty is saying what you think and know is true, but doing so with good intentions and with respect. The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said that he respected the USA as a close ally and wanted good relations with the country. But he said a state visit may give the impression we accept the views of President Trump. Read on to find out more about honesty. It is vital we reflect on and grow this important disposition.

INA Attendance and Punctuality Regular attendance is a crucial factor in students’ educational development and success in achieving their full potential. Missing out on education and learning leaves students vulnerable to falling behind, putting them under unnecessary pressure. At Isaac Newton Academy every student is expected to maintain 100% attendance.
Punctuality All students need to be present on site and ready for line up no later than 8.25am each day and as such we advise students to be through the school gates (side entrance and southern entrance) no later than 8.23am.
Reporting of child’s absence In line with INA attendance policy it is the parent/ carer's responsibility to phone the school by 8.15am on each day of an absence. If you fail to contact the school to inform us of your child’s absence we may take the necessary steps to ensure your child is safe. Please take the time to familiarise yourself with the INA Attendance policy.
