Southern Entrance
We would like to remind parents and carers that the gate at the southern entrance will be locked at 08:23 each morning. Students arriving after this time should enter via the main entrance in Cricklefield Place.
Safeguarding The welfare and safety of our students is our priority. We do everything possible to ensure our students’ safety, both within the school community and outside of school, including working with relevant agencies to address any issues related to child protection. Students are informed of who they should go to should they have a concern about their own safety or the safety of others. At INA, all staff have regular safeguarding training to ensure that they are able to meet their statutory responsibilities. Dear Parents and Carers, Our internal exams come to end on this week. We have been very impressed with the students’ focus, how hard they have worked and their positive behaviour for learning during the exam period. On 3rd July we launch the 2019 Parent Questionnaire when we ask you to give feedback about a wide range of aspects of our educational provision. We really appreciate you taking time to complete the questionnaire and provide us with valuable feedback. You will receive a link via email to a Survey Monkey questionnaire. Please don’t hesitate to contact the school if you have problems or would like a paper copy. We have finished doing Home Visits for the Year 6 students who are starting at INA in September and we have enjoyed meeting and starting to get to know them and their families. Our Transition Day is on Thursday next week when we are looking forward to welcoming them into the INA community. We have four action-packed weeks until the end of term. We have sports days in both primary and secondary, a trip to Berlin for A level History students and several trips for secondary students, the summer fayre, the summer concert, the Year 11 Graduation Ball, the Key Stage 3 Graduation evening and, of course, our end of term awards assemblies. Please see the calendar in the newsletter for further details. And finally, just a reminder that Friday 5th July is the last IL Day of the year. Students will study and learn independently at home. Learning will be provided for all students for the subject that have on the day via Fronter.

Year 10 MFL Mock speaking exams From Tuesday 25th June- Friday 28th June MFL speaking exams will take place in school. They will be conducted as a GCSE exam, providing an invaluable experience for the student. It is essential that students are in school on these days. Thanks for your support The MFL department
Year 9 - End of Key Stage 3 Awards Ceremony Monday 22nd July 5:00-6:30pm We are holding a special awards ceremony for Year 9 to mark the end of Key Stage 3. Students will go home at the end of the school day and return to school at 5:00pm, dressed formally in their finest outfits. There will be refreshments served between 5:00pm and 5:30pm in the Key Stage 3 Hall, providing students and parents/carers with a chance to mingle and reflect on the three years that have passed. Following this, there will be the formal awards ceremony in the Dining Hall. During the ceremony we will be celebrating progress and success over the entire key stage. Please note that Year 9 students will have an Independent Learning Day on the last day of term (Tuesday 23rd July). Ms Spencer, Interim Principal

INA’s Awards Assemblies Tuesday 23rd July 2019 On Tuesday 23rd July we will be holding our end of term awards assemblies. This is an important opportunity for the staff, students, governors and parents/carers to formally celebrate our students’ achievements. There will be a separate assembly for each year group. Please note the times and locations as follows: 11.05-12.00

At the assemblies we will be presenting awards in recognition of students’ academic progress and attainment, personal progress and the development of their BRIDGES dispositions. Excellent attendance and punctuality will also be celebrated. We believe that it is important that every student is represented by a parent at the Awards assembly for their year group. Tickets will be distributed in the lead up to the awards assemblies. Due to limited capacity, we are unable to accommodate very many additional family members. However, if you would like additional places, please notify the school office and we will do our best to allocate an additional ticket. I look forward to seeing you during these special celebrations. Class of 2019 Year 11 Leavers' Hoodies Purchasing details Year 11 students wishing to purchase a leaver's hoody will have the opportunity to come into main reception on the following days: Tuesday 25th, Wednesday 26th and Friday 28th June. Time: 9.30 – 10:30am only. Cost: £25, cash only. Collection of hoodies will be on results day from 8am onwards at INA.
Please Note: Secondary enrichments restart on Wednesday 26th June and will continue until the end of the summer term. All KS3 students will continue with the enrichment they were doing before the exam period and the expectation is that students attend at least one enrichment weekly.

Messages from MFL Year 7-8 languages options Our current Year 7 students will soon have the opportunity to choose a language of their choice to carry on studying in Year 8 and beyond. A letter will be coming out week beginning Monday 25th June regarding the process. Encourage your son/ daughter to think carefully before making their language choice for Year 8. They may have to consider for example the language that they have made the most progress in. We do not guarantee that students will get their first choice language. All reply slips should be handed to Mr Kejem (Head of MFL) or to Ms Coates (2ic for MFL). The deadline for return slip is Tuesday, 2nd July. Year 10 GCSE French & Spanish Orals Year 10 End of Year Orals for languages have been scheduled to take place as from Tuesday 25th to Friday 28th June 2018. We are currently working on the timetable and your child will be informed of their day and time of their exam. Please encourage them to revise and practise at home as this would help them to perform well at this very important examination. This also gives them a good opportunity to prepare for their GCSE speaking examination next year. The format of their Year 10 orals will reflect the actual speaking exams that they will be sitting next year in Year 11. Wednesday 26th June is Year 10 Sports Day. However, speaking examinations will still take place on this day during periods 1 to 3. It is compulsory that all students attend. Thanking you in anticipation for your support with this. Being a great leader involves creating a vision and then motivating and inspiring others to deliver that vision. Many people argue that the sign of a truly great leader is the legacy they leave behind. Legacy refers to a lasting positive impact that remains after a person is no longer present. Consider the leagcies of great leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi or Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. If we look even further back into history we can see another remarkable legacy left by Hammurabi, who became King of Babylon (modern day Iraq) in 1972 BC. Hammurabi left a physical legacy for his people through his focus on building temples and public buildings. He also left a legacy for the rest of civilization in that he created one of the fisrt and most complete set of written laws. ‘Hammurabi’s Code’ was 282 laws carved into a black rock, covering moral, religions, economic and social aspects. Research the code and you will see how many still apply today (such as ‘innocent until proven guilty’). Hammurabi had a vision of justice, and has truly left a lasting legacy.

Eshwar has demonstrated excellent leadership recently in the year 7 inter-form basketball competition. Despite being the only person from 7I to attend he quickly worked together with other form groups and nominated himself to captain the team he was playing for. He also encouraged his team-mates to cheer and support each other.

Praise and Recognition At INA, we aim to provide a stimulating, challenging and rewarding learning environment which supports learning, celebrates achievement and encourages everyone. Awarding merits, informal praise in class and the end of term awards assemblies are all part of this. Please speak to your child/children on a regular basis to see how many merits they have and how they are working towards the different awards at school.
Merits The inter-form merit competition is heating up – with more and more merits being given out each week. Each merit you gain will increase your individual total and also your form’s overall total. So make sure you are keeping up the fantastic work to gain merits! Also if you are owed a merit go and collect it and make sure it gets recorded on your form’s spreadsheet! YEAR 7

Ahmed Al-Khafaji Award
(Peer Commendation Award) Ahmed was well known for being kind, for helping others and for being extremely polite. He was also someone known for his hard work and absorption; the idea, therefore, is that the winner should be someone who encapsulated one of these qualities in that week. KS4 Sports Day KS4 Sports Day is on Wednesday 26th June periods 5 & 6. Students should arrive at school in P.E kit and go to lessons P1–4 as normal; therefore attendance on this day is essential. Students should make sure that they have all the correct equipment with them. Student should bring with them a hat, sun cream, a water bottle, preparing for the changing weather. No spectators are allowed for the year 10 sports day.

• Your son/daughter to be dressed in INA PE kit - they may bring an INA jacket (plain black) or school blazer to keep them warm and dry throughout the day if needed • Your son/daughter should have plenty of water, sun cream and a hat • Your son/daughter should bring their books and equipment in case of poor weather (in this instance, their lessons will go ahead as normal) • Your son/daughter should bring their epipen/inhaler for the day

INA Attendance and Punctuality Regular attendance is a crucial factor in students’ educational development and success in achieving their full potential. Missing out on education and learning leaves students vulnerable to falling behind, putting them under unnecessary pressure. At Isaac Newton Academy every student is expected to maintain 100% attendance.
Punctuality All students need to be present on site and ready for line up no later than 8.25am each day and as such we advise students to be through the school gates (side entrance and southern entrance) no later than 8.23am.
Reporting of child’s absence In line with INA attendance policy it is the parent/ carer's responsibility to phone the school by 8.15am on each day of an absence. If you fail to contact the school to inform us of your child’s absence we may take the necessary steps to ensure your child is safe. Please take the time to familiarise yourself with the INA Attendance policy.
