Southern Entrance

We would like to remind parents and carers that the gate at the southern entrance will be locked at 08:23 each morning. Students arriving after this time should enter via the main entrance in Cricklefield Place.

Safeguarding The welfare and safety of our students is our priority. We do everything possible to ensure our students’ safety, both within the school community and outside of school, including working with relevant agencies to address any issues related to child protection. Students are informed of who they should go to should they have a concern about their own safety or the safety of others. At INA, all staff have regular safeguarding training to ensure that they are able to meet their statutory responsibilities. We also have a number of staff who are designated to respond to any child protection concerns and to liaise with social services: Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) Leanne Abbott-Jones Assistant Principal Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) Tam Broadway Primary Headteacher Sugra Alibhai Head of Sixth Form Designated Child Protection Officers Patrick Ball (Online safety) Amreen Patel Pardeep Chaggar Jag Singh Gareth Marshall-Jones David Wilson Mariam Mayet You can find the INA Safeguarding policy, Child Protection policy and other related policies and procedures on the Academy’s website.

Dear Parents and Carers, The Year 7s have settled in really well and, by now, should have met all of their teachers. Our ‘Settling In’ evening for Year 7 students and their parents is scheduled for Wednesday 2nd October. It is really important that all parents of Year 7 students attend this evening as we will be talking through some of the things that are unique to INA, such as our BRIDGES programme. We will be briefing parents on our mission and our key policies, such as how we assess students, and explaining how parents can support their children to be great learners. You will find more information about the evening in next week’s newsletter. The new Year 11s have also made a great start to their last year of Key Stage 4 and seem to have returned with great focus and drive. This is a very busy term for them - GCSE mock exams start on 7th October! Students should have by now devised a programme of revision to ensure that they are fully prepared for these important exams. Intervention programmes will also be commencing next week. It is vital that students attend these sessions if they have been invited to do so – we know the positive impact that attendance at intervention has on a student’s progress and attainment. Finally, we are holding a ‘New to GCSE’ evening for parents of Year 10 students on Wednesday 25th September. Mr Clift-Matthews has included further details in this newsletter and we look forward to seeing the parents of every Year 10 parent at the event.

With all best wishes,

Jo Spencer

TOP TIPS: Students

In order to be successful in life we need to constantly adapt. We need to draw on a variety of dispositions to ensure that we can thrive in a certain environment. In school, we may be learning in a Harkness lesson, doing a performance or working independently on an extended project. Whatever the activity, we need to be willing to constantly change our approach to be successful This is exactly the same for animals. Animals can adapt their behaviour in order to survive and thrive. For instance if they are hunting for food, or running fast to avoid predators or migrating to other places for food or water. Consider how the animals shown have behavioural adaptations and think about how you adapt your behaviour and how willing you are to do so.

• Identify people yo and flexibility. Res how they manage behaviours based them. • Reflect on events t feelings, and how make them more p • Reflect on feedbac learning to increas

THE LADDER PROJECT WHO ARE WE? We are The Ladder Project, a programme dedicated to developing the potential of students through a series of workshops. We recognise that there is a gap in the skills that students are being taught and the skills they need to enter higher education and the world of work. This has more of an impact on students who are not clear about their future academic or career aspirations. The aim is to take year 9 and 10 students, who have not thought about their skills and interests, and how they relate to their future aspirations; and get them to a point where they are able to set specific informed goals. WHAT ARE OUR AIMS? The Ladder Project aims to make sure that: - Students are able to make informed goals relating to their future - Students have exposure to higher education and/or place of work - Students learn practical skills to aid their learning and academic progression - Students leave feeling more confident in themselves - Schools are assisted in the holistic development of their students

INA Attendance and Punctuality Regular attendance is a crucial factor in students’ educational development and success in achieving their full potential. Missing out on education and learning leaves students vulnerable to falling behind, putting them under unnecessary pressure. At Isaac Newton Academy every student is expected to maintain 100% attendance.

Punctuality

All students need to be present on site and ready for line up no later than 8.25am each day and as such we advise students to be through the school gates (side entrance and southern entrance) no later than 8.23am.

Reporting of child’s absence

In line with INA attendance policy it is the parent/ carer's responsibility to phone the school by 8.15am on each day of an absence. If you fail to contact the school to inform us of your child’s absence we may take the necessary steps to ensure your child is safe. Please take the time to familiarise yourself with the INA Attendance policy.
