Dear Parents and Carers, It has been another busy week with so many exciting events to report on. This will be the last newsletter for the academic term, so I just want to say thank you to all parents/carers for your continued support and for making the INA community a special one. We will look forward to welcoming another 90 families in September and I know you will help in making them feel ver y welcome. Amazing Learning this Week Mr Clift-Matthews, the Head of Science, brought over his ‘Amazing Animals’ to visit us on Tuesday. Ordinarily they live with the science department in the secondary school, but Mr Clift-Matthews thought they may enjoy a change of scenery for the morning. The children sent some letters to say thank you afterwards.

Breakfast and Afterschool Club - Price Changes from September Breakfast is available each day from 7.45am and will cost £2.50 per day from September. The children enjoy a range of cereals, toast and different topping, juice or milk and fruit. Any child attending must be brought to the main reception area by 8.20am at the latest. After School Club runs from 3.45pm – 6.00pm (3.00pm – 6.00pm on Tuesdays) and will cost £5.50 per hour from September. The children enjoy a range of snacks each evening and a variety of games and activities.
Safeguarding Children As part of their curriculum, the children learn how to keep themselves safe. The following website has been set up by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) to offer parents and schools advice on how to raise safeguarding awareness with children. There is a notable section called ‘The Underwear Rule’ which is of particular support and guidance to parents. The website also offers advice regarding ‘online safety’ and how to obtain support or advice regarding the safeguarding of children. www.nspcc.org.uk INA Newsletter 3
Primary Sports Day On Monday we all enjoyed a fun-filled Primary Sports Day. Despite the few downpours, I am sure you will all agree when I say that it was a brilliant afternoon! It was great to see so many parents and carers supporting the children and getting into the spirit of the event. Seeing so many willing parents take part in the races was superb and highlights what great role models you are to the children every day. Mr Morgan – what can I say? This week we have been working on ‘Integrity’ and we talked during Monday’s assembly about winning gracefully but also losing with grace and congratulating others when they do well. I think it was clear to see that every child competed with integrity and a great sporting attitude. Well done everyone! I would like to thank all the staff who supported but in particular Ms Hutson and Ms Young, along with the Student Leaders, for hosting and organising a fabulous event and experience for the primary children.

Primary Summer Fete Thank you parents/carers for coming along to the Primary Summer Fete and for your kind donations of food, games etc. It was a great event, one that I hope will continue year after year. A huge thank you to Ms Palray and Ms Ashton for organising the event and for all their time and hard work in getting the Fete up and running! You have both done a sterling job! We also want to thank ‘Tesco Superstore’ Goodmayes for their generous food voucher donation and the rgb Electrical Superstore on the Ilford High Road, opposite the school, for their generous donation of a P5 Smart Bluetooth® Wireless 2.0 Channel Speaker, see below.
Both prizes were raffled and raised lots of interest and funds! We will look forward to announcing the winners of the raffles next week and how much money we have managed to raise altogether to help enhance our outdoor provision and play for next academic year. Once again thank you for your help and support in making it a fun afternoon!

Ravi Jethwa – Scholar of the Week (for working with his partner in numeracy to show addition in a variety of different ways.) Maxwell Class: Saim Rehman – Headteacher’s Habits Award (for always being honest.) Saminderpreet Kaur – Scholar of the Week (for enthusiasm and hard work with her writing.)

"We build too many walls and not enough bridges.” Isaac Newton BRIDGES are habits of mind or learning characteristics that develop a pupil's character and learning power and enable him/her to grow into a well-rounded individual and resilient learner. There are seven BRIDGES habits that we will be working on, which will rotate on a weekly cycle throughout the year. The BRIDGES habit of the week will always be introduced at the beginning of the week during the Monday assembly and reinforced throughout the week across the curriculum. Each class teacher will award a certificate to a pupil who they feel has demonstrated the BRIDGES focus for the week. Each week we will update you on the BRIDGES habit that will be introduced in the coming week and offer some top tips on how to reinforce the habit at home too. Please also refer to the Primary BRIDGES wheel above. Week commencing 18th July – Discovery Discovery comprises seven dispositions: Energy and Enthusiasm, Noticing, Open-Mindedness and Curiosity, Imagining and Creativity
At School: • • • •
We make our lessons fun and interactive every day so that every child loves learning and has a sense of enthusiasm about everything they do. Our lessons are very hands on and we ask the children to share their learning with the ‘talk partners’. We talk to the children about looking out for the details on things around them, to look closely at the bugs and the leaves in the playground and what happens to everything as the seasons change. We encourage the children to check their work and try to spot any errors they may have made. Through our topic approach we engender a sense of curiosity and wonder in the children where they are keen to go home and find out more. We talk about human characteristics and traits and what makes us all the same but equally what makes us different and that it is good to have differences and to appreciate them with an open mind. Every area of the curriculum helps the children to become more creative –either through role-play, stories, music and PE – helping the children to use their imaginations.
At Home:
Encourage your child to use their imagination by making up stories together, or suggesting ways in which they could change parts of a story they know well. Pupils love to role play different characters and it is often even more fun when the adults join in too. Play along and have fun! Play games with your child like ‘I spy’ where you can see how many things they can notice beginning with a certain sound or letter they may already know or ask your child to think about an object and describe it using powerful adjectives. Ask questions like ‘I wonder what would happen if…?’ or ‘what do you think might happen if?’ or ‘why do you think…? These types of deeper questions will encourage the children to use their creativity and imagination more fully. Either independently or with help, encourage your child to read or research more information around the topics they are studying in class. Year 1 could be finding out facts about the world, finding out information about different countries – their flag, the capital city etc.

Coffee Morning Thank you once again to those parents and carers who were able to attend the Coffee Morning on Tuesday. It was great to explore ideas for the next academic year with you and to share and discuss some of the successes we have had this year. I look forward to meeting with you all again next academic year.
