Southern Entrance
We would like to remind parents and carers that the gate at the southern entrance will be locked at 08:23 each morning. Students arriving after this time should enter via the main entrance in Cricklefield Place.
Safeguarding The welfare and safety of our students is our priority. We do everything possible to ensure our students’ safety, both within the school community and outside of school, including working with relevant agencies to address any issues related to child protection. Students are informed of who they should go to should they have a concern about their own safety or the safety of others. At INA, all staff have regular safeguarding training to ensure that they are able to meet their statutory responsibilities. We also have a number of staff who are designated to respond to any child protection concerns and to liaise with social services: Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) Jo Spencer Vice Principal Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) Tam Broadway Primary Headteacher Eleanor Seale Office Manager Designated Child Protection Officers Leanne Abbott-Jones Sugra Alibhai Patrick Ball Pardeep Chaggar Jody Lapish
Gareth Marshall-Jones Mariam Mayet Jag Singh David Wilson
You can find the INA Safeguarding policy, Child Protection policy and other related policies and procedures on the Academy’s website.

Dear Parents and Carers, Our enrichment programme took off this week and each evening it has be great to see groups of students of all ages engaging in a range of fun activities with members of the operational as well as teaching staff. At INA all members of staff get involved in an enrichment activity each week. This is a remarkable commitment and speaks volumes about the dedication of our staff! On Tuesday we celebrated European Languages Day with a range of events laid on by the MFL team: thank you! On Wednesday this week all of the Year 11s took part in a Careers Advice and Guidance Day with around 50 staff from Barclays Bank. They were taught how to construct a powerful and effective Curriculum Vitae (CV)and each had a 1:1 mock interview, with feedback. The Year11s found the day really useful. We are very grateful to Ms Alibhai for organising the event and to the Barclays colleagues for giving up their time to support us. On Tuesday evening next week (3rd October) we host our annual Open Evening for prospective Year 7 students and their parents. It promises to be a packed event, so soon after our summer exam success! Thank you in advance to all those students who are acting as tour guides or helping out in departments. As this is a long night for the INA community, school starts at the later time of 9.25am the next morning on Wednesday 4th October. Students need their equipment for lessons2-6. And finally, I attach messages from two more of our new colleagues:
Ms Bisaccia, Teacher of Maths It’s an honour to be part of the dynamic Isaac Newton community. I am very excited about teaching students and working together with such experienced colleagues. I have a mixed Polish and Italian background that I am very proud of. I have

spent half of my life in UK and therefore I consider myself also in some way British. I have been teaching in one of the Dagenham Schools for 5 years. Last year I was looking for a new opportunity abroad that offered traveling experience. As a result, I was teaching in Dubai for a year and was able to go to countries such as Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Lebanon. The most enjoyable part of teaching for me is having pupils grasp something that they had previously not understood – the ‘magic moment’ when it all becomes clear. Having students thank me for the part I have played in their success always makes the hard work worthwhile, and I would expect to continue to motivate students in this way at Isaac Newton Academy.
Ms Moorton, Learning Assistant I am delighted to join the team at Isaac Newton Academy as SEND Support. The school’s ideas and values are what drove me to apply. I am from Redbridge and have worked in local schools for the last 10 years, working with children from the ages of 3 to 18. This has given me a sense of accomplishment and pleasure in helping so many children achieve their potential. I am looking forward to interacting with and helping the pupils at INA.
With all best wishes,
Rachel Macfarlane

Year 7 settling in evening Our settling in evening for the parents/carers of year 7 students will take place on Wednesday 11th October from 5.15-7pm. It is important that every year 7 student is represented by his/her parent/ carers. The settling in evening is an opportunity to learn more about key policies, such as Positive Behaviour for Learning, Independent Learning and Pastoral Care, and how we measure and track progress and attainment at INA. We will also explain a little bit more about the BRIDGES lessons at INA. We will also offer advice on how you can most effectively support your child with Independent Learning and reading. The presentations will start at 6pm in the KS3 hall; from 5.15-5.50pm we invite you to take the opportunity to meet other parents/carers, your child’s form tutor, Pastoral Leader and the members of the senior leadership team in the dining hall and to visit our school library. We look to seeing the parents/carers of every year 7 student at this important transition event. Ms Abbott-Jones – Assistant Principal Ms Cunniah – Year 7 Pastoral Leader

Homo Sapiens Our species of humans, known by scientists and genealogists as Homo Sapiens, first began to evolve around 200,000 years ago. During that time, they have had to adapt physically and mentally to their changing environment, for example: • Mutations in the structure of our spine and pelvis, stronger thigh muscles allowed us to walk more upright and peer over the long grass to spot predators. • Mutations causing our thumbs to be attached the other way around allowing unprecedented ability to grip and manipulate tools. This subsequently lead to the evolution of bigger brains driving more complex tool use.
Behaviours
• Changing the w particular situati to successful ma • Being willing to other people’s i • Being willing to order to make y

• Mutations in the structure of the larynx and our vocal chords allowed us to communicate with a wider range of sounds than the majority of the animal kingdom spurring the development of language.
Some of these adaptations were biological, but many were the result of being flexible and willing to think or behave differently to deal with the different situations that they faced. This process isn’t static, and continues to this day, resulting not only in the evolution of the species, but also of the technologies we use to survive and enjoy life on Earth.

has shown great adaptability & flexibility in her learning: Shaiza in 12 Manchester started at INA’s Sixth Form just two weeks ago. Shaiza has made a fantastic transition from KS4 to KS5. Shaiza has adapted to INA’s systems and processes so well that she was commended by a guest at the Sixth Form Opening for giving an excellent tour of the sixth form. Shaiza’s teachers and form tutor have also praised her for her smooth transition to INA. Her attitude to learning reflects a student determined to succeed and her contributions in lessons reflect a clear passion and interest in her chosen subjects. She has also made a big impression on her peers, who have welcomed her into the INA student community.

Praise and Recognition
At INA, we aim to provide a stimulating, challenging and rewarding learning environment which supports learning, celebrates achievement and encourages everyone. Awarding merits, informal praise in class and the end of term awards assemblies are all part of this. Please speak to your child/children on a regular basis to see how many merits they have and how they are working towards the different awards at school.
Merits It is the start of another year, so we are re- starting the Form Merit competition. Each merit you gain will increase your individual total and also your form’s overall total. So make sure you are keeping up the fantastic work to gain merits! Also if you are owed a merit go and collect it and make sure it gets recorded on your form’s spreadsheet! YEAR 7

Ahmed Al-Khafaji Award
(Peer Commendation Award)
Ahmed was well known for being kind, for helping others and for being extremely polite. He was also someone known for his hard work and absorption; the idea, therefore, is that the winner should be someone that encapsulated one of these qualities in that week.

Attendance and Punctuality Regular attendance is a crucial factor in students’ educational development and success in achieving their full potential. Missing out on education and learning leaves students vulnerable to falling behind. At Isaac Newton Academy every student is expected to maintain 100% attendance.
Punctuality All students need to be present on site and ready for line up no later than 8.25am each day and as such we advise students to be through the school gates (side entrance and southern entrance) no later than 8.20am. The form with the highest attendance at the end of every term is awarded the attendance trophy. Each week we will report on each form's attendance for the week prior and each year group will run their own year team competition. Year group and form attendance for week of 18th September. Tutor
