Southern Entrance
We would like to remind parents and carers that the gate at the southern entrance will be locked at 08:23 each morning. Students arriving after this time should enter via the main entrance in Cricklefield Place.
Safeguarding The welfare and safety of our students is our priority. We do everything possible to ensure our students’ safety, both within the school community and outside of school, including working with relevant agencies to address any issues related to child protection. Students are informed of who they should go to should they have a concern about their own safety or the safety of others. At INA, all staff have regular safeguarding training to ensure that they are able to meet their statutory responsibilities. Dear Parents and Carers, We had a great turn out for the Open Evening on Tuesday. It was a fabulous opportunity to showcase what we do really well at INA and all of the student guides and helpers were a real credit to the school. Next Tuesday at 6pm we are holding our Year 12 Open Evening. We expect to see all of our Year 11 students and their families at the event which includes an opportunity for students to sample taster A level and BTEC lessons. On Wednesday this week Ms McEvoy and Mr Atwal held a workshop for Year 10s and their parents to introduce them to the new GCSE courses and assessment. I should like to thank them for organising this most informative workshop. For any family unable to attend, the presentation can be found on the website under resources for parents. Whilst the Year 10 evening was taking place, we had our first Friends of INA (FOINA) meeting of the year in the dining hall. FOINA members extend a warm welcome to all families new to INA and invite parents/carers to attend future meetings. The next dates are 1st November, 6th December and 10th January. Meetings are from 6.30- 7.30pm. FOINA are organising a Christmas Table Top Sale to take place on Saturday 9th December. In you are interested in assisting with the event, please come to our next meeting and/or contact Melissa Chergui, Chair, on melissachergui@sky.com Anyone interested in hiring a table for ÂŁ12 should also email Melissa. And lastly, I should like to introduce you to three more of our new staff colleagues:
Leon Lewis, Premises Management Apprentice I am happy to be joining the INA team as a Premises Management Apprentice. I feel very welcome and comfortable as a new member to the academy. I worked in a care home doing maintenance for a few months. I enjoy doing hands on jobs. I’m a big football fan; I support Manchester United.

I am very happy and proud to be a part of the INA Team and I am very excited for the future at this academy.
Phoebe Suttie, Teacher of Art I am really excited to be joining the team at INA as the new teacher of Art. Having worked as a teacher and leader of the Art department in a West London school for five years, it is time to broaden my horizons and INA is the place I have chosen. Despite having only been at the school for only a few weeks, I am already feeling welcome and really privileged to be working with such a diverse range of GCSE Art students who have such creative flare. Seeing students realise the potential of their ideas is what really excites me about my job. I also think the positive aspects of the school such as the BRIDGES and Harkness initiatives, alongside family dining and the amazing enrichment programme, make this a really great place to work. I decided I wanted to be an Art teacher whilst I was at the University of East London studying Graphic Design. I was a part-time youth worker and really enjoyed working with and mentoring young people. I decided to put both my passions together and this ended up being the perfect career for me! Having grown up for much of my later childhood in East London, going to school in East Ham and now living locally in the Ilford area, I feel a strong sense of connection with the students. I feel I know where they are coming from, the issues they have to face and, most importantly, how they can use their inner drive and ambition to overcome them. I am looking forward to continuing my teaching and learning journey at INA and welcome all challenges and successes now and in the future!
Atika Shah, SEND Learning Assistant Having graduated last year from university with a degree in Psychology, I gained a real interest in working within the field of educational psychology. I went on to search for a school that held the same values that I share when it comes to promoting inspiration and self-belief, and INA’s core philosophy is what drew me to join this fantastic school! I believe that all students

can achieve their utmost potential and that no student gets left behind! Each student shall explore, dream and accomplish! I also love the school’s ethos, especially the use of the BRIDGES values, something that is unique and really sets this school apart. London’s biggest jobs and careers event is back for 2017! Free entry, free classroom resources and a travel bursary contribution. As well as being FREE TO ATTEND, you will gain access to a range of resources to prepare you for the event. Visiting also offers you a chance to get up-todate career-related information, make useful employer contacts and update your labour market information. We also have a travel bursary available, to help towards the cost of your travel to the event. Ask for details. Year 7 settling in evening Our settling in evening for the parents/carers of year 7 students will take place on Wednesday 11th October from 5.15-7pm. It is important that every year 7 student is represented by his/her parent/ carers. The settling in evening is an opportunity to learn more about key policies, such as Positive Behaviour for Learning, Independent Learning and Pastoral Care, and how we measure and track progress and attainment at INA. We will also explain a little bit more about the BRIDGES lessons at INA. We will also offer advice on how you can most effectively support your child with Independent Learning and reading. The presentations will start at 6pm in the KS3 hall; from 5.15-5.50pm we invite you to take the opportunity to meet other parents/carers, your child’s form tutor, Pastoral Leader and the members of the senior leadership team in the dining hall and to visit our school library. We look to seeing the parents/carers of every year 7 student at this important transition event. ‘You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him find it within himself.’ — Galileo Galilei Galileo Galilei was an Italian physicist, mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher who played a major role in the Scientific Revolution. Throughout his life’s research, Galilei demonstrated the disposition of understanding. In 1609, Galileo heard about the invention of the telescope in Holland. Without having seen an example, he constructed a superior version and made many astronomical discoveries. These included mountains and valleys on the surface of the moon, sunspots, the four largest moons of the planet Jupiter and the phases of the planet Venus. He conducted meticulous research and gathered evidence to prove the theory of the heliocentric model of the solar system (that the planets orbit the sun). Galilei’s pioneering observations laid the foundation for modern physics and astronomy.

Praise and Recognition
At INA, we aim to provide a stimulating, challenging and rewarding learning environment which supports learning, celebrates achievement and encourages everyone. Awarding merits, informal praise in class and the end of term awards assemblies are all part of this. Please speak to your child/children on a regular basis to see how many merits they have and how they are working towards the different awards at school.
Merits It is the start of another year, so we are re- starting the Form Merit competition. Each merit you gain will increase your individual total and also your form’s overall total. So make sure you are keeping up the fantastic work to gain merits! Also if you are owed a merit go and collect it and make sure it gets recorded on your form’s spreadsheet! YEAR 7

Ahmed was well known for being kind, for helping others and for being extremely polite. He was also someone known for his hard work and absorption; the idea, therefore, is that the winner should be someone that encapsulated one of these qualities in that week.

Every week we ask teachers to nominate students who have been role models by carrying out good deeds for others and the INA community. A big well done for those who have been nominated this week! Attendance and Punctuality Regular attendance is a crucial factor in students’ educational development and success in achieving their full potential. Missing out on education and learning leaves students vulnerable to falling behind. At Isaac Newton Academy every student is expected to maintain 100% attendance.
Punctuality All students need to be present on site and ready for line up no later than 8.25am each day and as such we advise students to be through the school gates (side entrance and southern entrance) no later than 8.20am. The form with the highest attendance at the end of every term is awarded the attendance trophy. Autumn 2017
The Secondary Enrichment Programme has been a great success in the last academic year and I am looking forward to this continued trend. Students attended their clubs regularly and fully involved themselves with the school community and ethos. A list of all autumn 2017 enrichment clubs can be found on the school website. The Enrichment programme for autumn 2017 will begin on Monday 25th September. KS3 students are using the new online app to make their selection. Their allocation is confirmed via an email.
