Southern Entrance
We would like to remind parents and carers that the gate at the southern entrance will be locked at 08:23 each morning. Students arriving after this time should enter via the main entrance in Cricklefield Place.
Safeguarding The welfare and safety of our students is our priority. We do everything possible to ensure our students’ safety, both within the school community and outside of school, including working with relevant agencies to address any issues related to child protection. Students are informed of who they should go to should they have a concern about their own safety or the safety of others. At INA, all staff have regular safeguarding training to ensure that they are able to meet their statutory responsibilities. We also have a number of staff who are designated to respond to any child protection concerns and to liaise with social services: Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) Leanne Abbott-Jones Assistant Principal Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) Tam Broadway Primary Headteacher Sugra Alibhai Head of Sixth Form Designated Child Protection Officers Patrick Ball (Online safety) Pardeep Chaggar Jody Lapish Gareth Marshall-Jones

You can find the INA Safeguarding policy, Child Protection policy and other related policies and procedures on the Academy’s website.

We welcomed our new Year 7s last week. They look very smart in their new uniforms and are already settling in well to life at INA. We also welcomed 120 new Year 12 students. We are delighted that we now have both Years 12 and 13 on the top floor in the sixth form. We are looking forward to working in partnership with all of our parents over the forthcoming academic year to ensure that our students continue to thrive at INA, develop great character and learning dispositions and achieve outstanding outcomes. With all best wishes,
Jo Spencer

The Drama department are proud and excited to announce that INA has been selected to work with a prestigious theatre in London. Schools Club at the Old Vic is a well-established project supported and funded by The Sackler Trust, providing students from forty schools across London the opportunity to work with theatre professionals and engage with the theatre-making process. Thirty students from our year 9 cohort will participate in a pre-show workshop at school for four productions over the course of the academic year. They will be exploring the plot, characters and themes of four plays which they then watch at the Old Vic theatre. The first workshop and theatre trip will be this week!

Mahatma Gandi [1869 - 1948]
Mahatma Gandhi, known for being highly empathetic and a great listener, became famous by fighting for the civil rights of Muslim and Hindu Indians in South Africa and in India. Gandhi was the son of a senior government official and trained as a lawyer in London. After his return to India in 1915, Gandhi decided that if he was going to campaign for Indian independence from British rule, he would need to experience what life was really like for the poorest people in the country. Gandhi discarded his barrister’s suit and instead wore a dhoti. He established the Sabamarti Ashram so that he could step into the shoes of peasant farmers. He and his followers grew their own food and spun their own cloth. Gandhi’s strong sense of empathy towards the plight of others led to him organise non-violent protests, such as the 250 mile Dandi Salt March in 1930.

If you can learn a simple trick you’ll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.

ed Ahmed 9I
Junayed demonstrates listening skills and empathy on a regular basis. He consistently engages with what he is hearing and makes links to his existing understanding. In addition to this, he appreciates the reasons why people feel and act in a certain way and uses this to respond in a supportive manner. Instead of reacting in an irrational way, it is important to think things through and try to put yourself in the other person’s position. Only then can you respond in a positive way. As a school community we must all try to take this approach.

European Languages Day
On Wednesday 26th September, in what is now a tradition at INA, the school will be celebrating European Languages Day! The MFL department is arranging a series of events and competitions to celebrate the day. It is a wonderful opportunity to express our cultural awareness as a community. Our chef will be creating a typical menu for the day where some European delights will be served for lunch. Key Stage 3 students will take part in a big quiz competition between forms! Key Stage 4 students will have the opportunity to take part in a competition throughout the week. There’ll also be a postcard competition. We are looking forward to seeing our students entering the spirit of the day, competing and celebrating being part of a diverse community with multiple languages. Merci beaucoup & gracias. The MFL team.

INA Attendance and Punctuality Regular attendance is a crucial factor in students’ educational development and success in achieving their full potential. Missing out on education and learning leaves students vulnerable to falling behind, putting them under unnecessary pressure. At Isaac Newton Academy every student is expected to maintain 100% attendance.
Punctuality All students need to be present on site and ready for line up no later than 8.25am each day and as such we advise students to be through the school gates (side entrance and southern entrance) no later than 8.23am.
Reporting of child’s absence In line with INA attendance policy it is the parent/ carers responsibility to phone the school by 8.15am on each day of an absence. If you fail to contact the school to inform us of your child’s absence we may take the necessary steps to ensure your child is safe. Please take the time to familiarise yourself with the INA Attendance policy.
