always in awe
i t doe sn ' t
matter how I started each project but how I have finished it. I am always in awe of the content I have designed. For me to be in awe of something or somebody, makes me want to learn about the subject, understand it, appreciate it aesthetically, and become emotionally attached to it. I wish I could design everything. I hope my designs can make the audience be in awe of any subject. Class

U2
U2 360° was a worldwide concert tour from 2009 through 2011. The tour was claimed by U2 to be “the first time a band has toured in stadiums with a unique and original stage structure.” This staging inspired me to create the strong structured logo in red and black to reflect the U2 distinctive rock sound and performance. I expanded this system into the poster, LP, CD, and booklet design. Class

ocean tides
only happen a few times per year, and usually at night or during the week. I was able to see one and it was a rare chance to see a reef and tons of creatures that are rarely visible. The beauty, fragility, and uniqueness of the tide gave me an idea of a Moab paper representation since this paper has a similar quality in its own way. In this project, I also explored existing modern typographic ideas and techniques to communicate essence of the ocean tide and Moab paper. I attempted to expand on a typographic range, investigating the communication of content and emotion through text and image. v ery low t ide s

freedom
is the first self-balancing, zero emissions personal transportation vehicle that transforms the way people work, play, and live. The brochure presented below was developed as a way to reflect the experience of driving while enjoying the surrounded beauty as if on foot. The illustrations show that travel has the potential to be dependent on the mode of transportation. The promotion compares Segway to driving a car or using public transportation and demonstrates how Segway takes a minimal amount of space and is environmentally friendly. It is also extremely maneuverable and can operate on pedestrian sidewalks and pathways. The brochure emphasizes the flow of a journey through the use of line and color. segway

is often presented in boring, flat, dull paper. In this project, I had a chance to create an exiting, provocative, compelling newsletter on the theme of global warming. I chose a warm orange contrasted with black. The composition creates a tension. On the back side, there is a poster showing Earth as a pan filled with frying bacon. The question is: Who is frying it? a newsletter

vocal arts
is an American women's vocal arts ensemble that was inspired by traditional songs and vocal techniques from Eastern Europe. The illustration in the poster was inspired by the woven, beautiful, otherworldly, rich sound these women produce. The colors help to hear the resonance and energy of the folk songs. It was an enriching experience to explore each stage of the poster development: concept, line drawing, and color research.

outdoor adventure
r ecr eational equipment inc .,
commonly known as REI, is a privately held American retail corporation organized as a consumers' cooperative, selling outdoor recreation gear, sporting goods, and clothes. The new logo has an organic shape which can be associated with water waves, or with wood, or with any other form you can find in nature. The logo can also be interpreted as the unity of people sharing the same interest in outdoor adventure. The logo also represents the services REI provides: shopping, travel, and learning. The pages reinforce an organic feel through a natural shape cut by hand to follow the logo concept. The colorless cover with an embossed logo reflects the idea of REI's commitment to preserving natural resources. Class

BOOK DESIGN
N0 8 / / I N A W E O F
Florence
the “city in details”
book was inspired by my trip to Florence, Italy. The city is full of treasures. While being in awe of famous pieces of art, I also concentrated on details found around there. I thought, "Maybe Leonardo touched this door handle, and this street light helped Dante to see his way." The result is— a big collection of city details and a book about Florence. It is a great manual for travelers and for those who want to see the city in different perspectives. In addition to black and white imagery, I used specific colors reminiscent of Florence: the blue of its sky and the orange of the its roofs.

kenaf
is a small, innovative company that works with U.S. farmers to grow an annual row crop called kenaf. It uses the kenaf as raw material instead of trees to manufacture pulp and paper. While playing with company's initials I tried to create a logo that would reflect the unique and innovative qualities of the company. The new logo creation was displayed through stationery and a brochure. v ision pa pe r

typography
of redesigning the book by Robin Williams “The Mac is Not a Typewriter,” we learned essential typographic rules. For my book I chose the concept of “typework” in association with clockwork. Both require a kind of deep knowledge and attention to detail. Just as the clockmaker follows constructions rules, the designer follows rules of typography to create a precise composition. by following the task

TEA EXHIBITION

tea
is an annual tea festival held in Santa Cruz. I tried to find the way to represent tea by coming up with the idea of tea painting. All illustrations for the project were painted using different types of tea and then the color was manipulated in Photoshop. To illustrate China, I used green tea, India was painted using black tea, and South America was painted by yerba mate.
