Dear Friends, Solar Impulse is a unique plane, capable of flying day and night without fuel. During the day, as it flies by solar power, it also gathers enough energy to fly all night. Bertrand Piccard, one of the inventors, speaks of seeing the sun rise at the end of a long night of flying: “It brings the hope again that you can continue.” This makes us think of the following words in the Bible: “Yet hope returns when I remember this one thing: The Lord’s unfailing love and mercy still continue, fresh as the morning, as sure as the sunrise” (Lamentations 3: 21-23). These words were written at a time when Jeremiah, the author, and his nation were in the depths of despair, facing invasion and destruction by a foreign army. Yet, Jeremiah tells the people that they still have reason to hope, because of God’s mercy. We would love to share with you how, in the midst of the challenges of life, we can hold on to hope, because of the love of Jesus. Why not get in touch? OLYMPIC LEGACY EXTENDS TO KENYA - continued The Spring 2014 edition of Down Your Street reported on the transfer of one of the Olympic Games Aqua Centre water tanks to Kenya. In March the tank was successfully re-assembled by a great team all of whom gelled together with the local workers. The tank and local on site distribution pipe work were all completed in an amazing 10 days, in spite of both burning heat and freak rain storms. The bore hole pump was fitted so the tank could be filled. Then it needed electricity to operate the pump but Kenyan bureaucracy caused so much delay that it was only after the construction team had left that the power lines were connected and the water enabled to fill the tank and then out to the local population. Although there being over 2,500 bolts, there were only 20 leaks which were soon eliminated. This provision of fresh clean water has transformed the lives of the people in the area. One lady said that previously she had to walk 3 or 4 kilometres 2 or 3 times a day to fetch water for her family, each journey taking 2 hours. Now she can reach it in 20 minutes. Another lady said: ’I really appreciate Abigail Ministries for the good work they have done for the community as they know water is life. We have travelled long distances looking for water but it has a lot of dirt in it which has caused typhoid, cholera and other water borne diseases. We women have been carrying water on our backs which has been tiresome work and at the end of the day our backs are aching. With this supply even children in the neighbouring school and wider community will get good clean water. Women will not have to travel long distances and have more time for work and at home with the family’. Details of the work of Abigail Ministries can be found at www. Abigailministries. org
