Decorative Trends in 2020 CAROLINA PEDRIQUE – AREA HOME DECOR

Each year decorative trends evolve, perhaps not at the same speed as fashion, but we certainly see proposals for different styles, colors, and textures related to interior design annually. The decoration style should not be very different from the architectural style of the property. However, if you know how to select the elements well, it is possible to achieve an exciting style transition that allows you to move from one style to another without becoming a tragic design error. In Houston, being a city so extensive and with such diversity, we see two dominant building trends that have been booming for a couple of years and that are far from each other. The first, found in the centric areas of town, is influenced by modern designs, white tones, and straight lines, with architectural elements that include concrete and metals in their finishes. The second, in areas distant from the city center, is inspired by rustic and warm designs, using industrial finishes. The exciting thing is that both styles, despite being so different from each other, commune perfectly in this metropolis and merge. As a similarity between both styles, we have open spaces, bright wall tones, high ceilings, and large windows. Now we see more and more vertical gardens inside the houses with more natural light or plant vases with simple designs that integrate perfectly to the selected decorative style. The most exciting thing, in this case, is that the biophilia appears with equal force in modern and traditional spaces.

When we talk about more traditional houses, we see a very marked trend in the Farmhouse style, where textures and finishes get mixed with neutral tones, comfortable furniture, durable and easily combined with Rustic and Industrial styles. Again, in the decoration, according to this architecture, we see the incorporation of pieces and accessories with Nordic style, but in this case, combined with finishes in more natural fibers.

Another style that we will see more and more during this year is the Japandi style, which mixes Japanese designs with more western styles and works very well with gray and earth tones. It is important to note that in any case, the tendency is still to have large-scale accessories, avoiding having many things and placing special emphasis on art pieces as focal points. Less is more!
