ou will find (pag. 38) the story about the first Master Class held in Hangzhou by four important Chinese designers and academics. This lesson is only the first in a cycle that will periodically see our Chinese partner propose, with our collaboration, lessons, events, high-level professional exchanges. The path of international expansion, embarked upon in recent months, is beginning to give its yields. Home Italia is distributed in China, in a circuit of training institutes, professional studios and meeting places, but also wants to be a real tool for the growth of companies and architects who are members of our Club. But I never stop though! I just got back from China where I signed a new agreement with the Fangling group, based in Shenyang, We have concerted the construction of the mock-up of two villas of 500 square meters each, which will serve as a driving force for an ambitious residential project developed by a partner capable of building 30,000 apartments in 2018! Following my last trip to Florida, where I visited Miami and Fort Lauderdale I established relationships and contacts that are the prelude to a new expansion of the world of HOME Italia to the west! SPECIAL MARKS? IMMORTALITY. NO, IT’S NOT A SUPERHERO, EVEN IF IT’S STRONG, INTRIGUING AND RESISTANT; MARBLE IS A TIMELESS PLEASURE, WHICH DOES NOT FOLLOW FASHIONS AND NEVER TIRES. A SUCCESS THAT CAN BE EXPLAINED NOT ONLY BY SIGHT BUT ALSO BY TOUCH.

Its decorative motif consists of solids and voids, evoking sensations of movement, makes Solco a truly decorative piece. THE ART BUILDING IN MILAN COULD ART BE AN ADDED VALUE FOR THE ARCHITECT'S PROJECTS? THE SCULPTOR MATTEO BERRA CREATES AN INNOVATIVE PROJECT IN THE OUTSKIRTS OF MILAN IN SEARCH OF AN INNOVATIVE EXCHANGE BETWEEN DIFFERENT SKILLS.

3.5 m high and 24 km of rods for Fold: these are the impressive dimensions of the work by sculptor Matteo Berra for Art Building, a Milanese building that offers a rare collaboration between designer and artist. And it is here that we meet him. "I hope - says Berra - that the intervention can demonstrate that art is an added value in an operation that has as its center a residential building. My hope is that the market will notice that if you make similar interventions you have economic advantages linked to marketing. I dream that this operation will be repeated and that the cities will become a sort of open-air exhibition widespread in the urban reality". Matteo immediately addresses the open question with Art Building about the relationship between building, art, and city: "At a time when architects are changing the city faces, I think it would be interesting if artists also had a voice in this process". The subject is delicate because if the artist prevails, as in the case of Hundertwasser in Vienna, there is a risk that architecture will become pure decoration! "That is a danger that is not only linked to the intervention of an artist because even an architect creates spaces that have the responsibility to remain and influence those who visit them and, perhaps, not to be "appreciable". The problem of responsibility is common to all, and sculptors have always look at it, creating monumental works as well for public places. Anyone who makes choices that affect people's lives must take responsibility." Not knowing until the end what reactions you will provoke. "That's right. Personally, working on this building, I thought a lot about the fact that we are in front of the railway; my desire was to create

something that commuters, every day, find interesting for that fraction of the time they spend passing through and not to ruin their lives for a minute" Architects and engineers use the same design tools as AutoCad, the artist uses something else. "I didn't know AutoCad, I learned it and it brought great advantages, it's a tool that hasn't replaced the others but it's useful when you relate to the architect who no longer thinks with the sheet of paper; it's necessary, in order to interface with the others, to share specific knowledge that is no longer strictly artistic, different tools lead to different results; the sculpture if it starts with AutoCad arrives at certain results, otherwise it arrives from other parts and therefore it's interesting to have more ways to go". And what about the small ways? "I've had the opportunity to do interventions in private houses; they seem expensive but they have a rather "small" impact on the overall cost; however, they end up being that detail that makes the difference compared to a purely architectural project because it gives the soul to the whole intervention and remains as an inner value". Is this the real added value that art can give to architecture?

23,5 mt di altezza e 24 km di tondini per Fold: queste le impressionanti dimensioni dell'opera dello scultore Matteo Berra per Art Building, edificio milanese che propone una rara collaborazione tra progettista e artista. Ed è proprio qui che lo incontriamo. «Spero - dice Berra- che l’intervento possa dimostrare che l'arte è un valore aggiunto in un'operazione che ha come centro un palazzo residenziale. La mia speranza è che il mercato si accorga che se si fanno interventi simili si hanno dei vantaggi anche economici legati alla commercializzazione. Sogno che questa operazione venga replicata e che le città diventino una sorta di mostra a cielo aperto diffusa nella realtà urbana». Matteo entra subito nella questione aperta con Art Building del rapporto tra edificio, arte e città: «In un momento nel quale gli architetti stanno cambiando i volti delle città, se in questo processo avessero voce anche gli artisti secondo me sarebbe interessante». Il discorso è delicato perché se l’artista prevale, come nel caso di Hundertwasser a Vienna, l’architettura rischia di diventare pura decorazione! «Quello è un pericolo che non è legato solo all'intervento di un’artista perché anche un architetto crea spazi che hanno la responsabilità di rimanere e influenzare chi li visita e, magari, di non essere “apprezzabili”; il problema della responsabilità è condiviso, gli scultori se lo sono sempre posto facendo anche opere monumentali per luoghi pubblici. Chiunque faccia

scelte che influenzano la vita delle persone deve prendersi le proprie responsabilità» Non sapendo fino alla fine che reazioni provocherai. «Esatto. Personalmente lavorando su questo palazzo ho ragionato molto sul fatto che siamo di fronte alla ferrovia; il mio desiderio era di creare qualcosa che i pendolari, ogni giorno, trovino interessante per quella frazione di tempo di passaggio e di non rovinargli la vita per un minuto» Architetti e ingegneri utilizzano gli stessi strumenti progettuali tipo AutoCad, l’artista utilizza altro. «Io non conoscevo AutoCad, l’ho imparato e ha portato grossi vantaggi, è uno strumento che non ha sostituito gli altri ma serve quando ti relazioni con l’architetto che non ragiona più col foglio di carta; è necessario, per interfacciarsi con gli altri, condividere conoscenze specifiche che non sono più strettamente artistiche, strumenti diversi portano a risultati diversi; la scultura se parte con AutoCad arriva a certi risultati, altrimenti arriva da altre parti e quindi è interessante avere più strade percorribili». E nel piccolo? «Mi è capitato di fare interventi in case private; sembrano costosi ma vanno ad incidere in maniera abbastanza “piccola” sul costo complessivo; finiscono però per essere quel dettaglio che fa la differenza rispetto a un progetto puramente architettonico perché dà l'anima a tutto l’intervento e rimane come valore interiore». Che sia allora proprio questo il vero valore aggiunto che l’arte può dare all’architettura?

alking about modern style is not easy. What’s really modern, what’s not? What’s the key to understand this apparently simple definition? Which are the shapes, the materials, the feelings you have to consider when you are “thinking modern” in your style of living? International renowed interior designer Giuseppe Viganò gives us his personal point of view about this theme. «Modern style of living, we are investigating in this first story, revolves around a few keywords: concrete, geometry, art and nature. This style involves the use of building materials such as concrete, glass and metal. The shapes are simple and essential and the structural parts are evident and declared. Functionality is crucial in this project and therefore the geometric principles are the regulators of the design. Indoor and outdoor spaces talk together in search of a strong environmental continuity. So we can see geometric windows replacing entire walls. There are obviously no decorative excesses in this style, while the presence of nature is perfectly integrated into the environment and fills the structural gaps. Nature itself gives energy and vitality to the spaces and warms up the places of daily life. The well-being coming from this philosophical choice is undisputed. he first master class of the GXS International Institute was held in the International Hall of th Intercontinetal Hotel in Hanggzhou from 22 to 23 August. TK HOME, JZ CASA and Design YRD worked together to set up the GXS International Design Institute. This new amazing learning experience has the well known designer TK Chu as honorary President, sharing with the students his design experiences more than 30 years long and his remarkable portfolio of excellent works. Tk Chu will also invite in the future some famous designer from all over the world to boost a strong professional growth of the young designers, in order to promote the development of design industry. The first Seminar included four keynote speeches: a design talk, a design-night talk and a presentation of how designers could move to the international design stage sharing HOME Italia partnership in the very next future. The first teachers were senior designers and aesthetician Rongzhi Lu, Ziyu Zhuang, Weimin Li and T.K Chu himself. All the four teachers have given original lectures about the different paths students can follow to develop their skills. They presented their work from different points of view adding interesting reflections based on personal observation and practical experience in the design world.

Wrought iron, an element that Cantori is famous for, has been rediscovered and redeveloped by him for inclusion in the latest projects as a radical and primeval work process forged by the smithy. The black ash wood is enhanced with its three-dimensional grain, providing form to furniture items with a sculptural shape, always original. In the Shanghai collection, the vertical structures are cylindrical elements that have been forged throughout their length and then finished with contrasting details, also made of metal but with a smoother finish. orking on a semi-collapsed traditional building in the mountains of the Chinese province of Anhui, architect Ziyu Zhuang creates a remarkable example of the interaction between ancient and present. Everything is designed to allow the surrounding nature to enter the house, in a continuous dialogue between inside and outside. "Less is more" concept inspired architect Andrea Bella for the renovation of this large Turin house of the early ‘900. A classic Turinese style aprtement with high ceilings, large windows and even larger sizes. The furnishing choices also reflect this vision with light and harmonious solutions.

TONGLING

A three floor building facing the sea of Doha is developed according to a minimalist interpretation by Giampiero Peia & Marta Nasazzi/Peia Associati without forgetting references to the typical finishes of the area. Precious materials, give uniqueness to the inner and outdoor spaces. As a result of the collaboration between the Spanish architects studio Sanahuja & Partners and the Dutch sculptor Xander Spronken, who also commissioned it, a building is born expressing its essence without veils, enhancing the different surfaces and integrating with its surroundings. In this impressive project near Lugano, in Switzerland, architect Mino Caggiula create a residential concept where the combination of everyday life and natural environment is primarily visible in the architectural language.

orking on a semi-collapsed traditional building in the mountains of the Chinese province of Anhui, architect Ziyu Zhuang creates a remarkable example of the interaction between ancient and present. “Starting from the original layout - says architect Ziyu Zhuang- we considered adding a bay to the west to reach the mountain on one side, and another bay, in a south-north direction to form a larger living space”. Innovation and traditional Chinese symbolism lead a project respectful of the conservative context and open to other traditions and other words. The choice of grey tiles for the roofs harmonizing the house with the villages of the region and the recovery of the original bricks reused in combination with more modern materials in the definition of the walls are undoubtedly conservative. Otherwise, the use of materials such as copper and glass, which bring the project back to a more international and contemporary area, can be understood as innovative. In defining the layout of the building, the architect also respects the Chinese tradition, with the rooms chasing each other, leading the most public spaces for the reception to the most private ones. The redefinition of the spaces led to the creation of new projecting volumes and a series of windows that define “the image of a modern house in a traditional context”. The elevation of one floor made it possible to create a more marked differentiation between the living and sleeping areas. Everything is designed to allow the splendid surrounding nature to enter the house, in a continuous dialogue between inside and outside that leaves guests enchanted but also allows the hosts to enjoy those corners of pure contemplation of the space that are another marvelous feature of the Chinese tradition.

[IT] Un edificio antico di 140 mq, in pessime condizioni, situato in posizione invidiabile tra le montagne della provincia cinese dell’Anhui, diviene, dopo l’intervento dell’architetto Ziyu Zhang un notevole esempio di interazione tra antico e presente. “Partendo dal layout originale – dice l’architetto Ziyu - abbiamo considerato l’aggiunta di una campata a ovest per raggiungere la montagna da un lato, e un’altra campata, in direzione sud-nord, per formare uno spazio abitativo più ampio”. Innovazione e attenzione alla tradizione e alla simbologia tradizionale cinese sono alla base di una scelta che è quindi rispettosa del contesto ma al tempo stesso libera di citare altre tradizioni e altri mondi. Sono senza dubbio conservativi la scelta delle tegole grigie che armonizzano la casa ai villaggi della regione e il recupero di parte dei mattoni originali riutilizzati in combinazione con materiali più attuali nella definizione delle pareti. Si possono invece intendere come innovativi l’uso del rame e del vetro 62

che riportano il progetto in un’area più internazionale e contemporanea. Anche nella definizione del layout dell’edificio l’architetto ha cercato di rispettare la tradizione cinese con i locali che si inseguono tra loro portando dagli spazi più pubblici, destinati al ricevimento, a quelli più privati. La ridefinizione degli spazi ha portato però anche alla creazioni di nuovi volumi aggettanti e a una serie di finestre che definiscono “l’immagine di una casa moderna in un contesto tradizionale”. L’innalzamento di un piano rispetto alla planimetria tradizionale ha permesso di creare una differenziazione più marcata tra zona giorno e zona notte. Negli spazi di accoglienza, come il living, tutto è pensato per permettere alla splendida natura circostante di entrare dentro la casa, in un continuo dialogo tra interno ed esterno che lascia incantati gli ospiti ma permette anche ai padroni di casa di godere di quegli angoli di pura contemplazione dello spazio che sono un’altra caratteristica della tradizione abitativa cinese.

ess is more, claimed Mies van der Rohe, summarizing in this famous statement the pillar of his poetics: relieve rather than add. And it is precisely the philosophy that seems to have inspired architect Andrea Bella for the renovation of this large Turin house of the early â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;900, a house with high ceilings, large windows and even larger sizes. Nearly 160 square meters of housing, initially divided into nine small rooms that, after the intervention of Bella, have become only three. A living area, a kitchen and a bedroom, with bright tones and an airy atmosphere, where everything is enhanced by the abundance of natural light that embraces the rooms, from ground to sky. Once the non-structural elements have been removed, what remains are space, clean lines and the essence of the house itself, a total functionality imbued with class and elegance. The furnishing choices also reflect this vision, with light and harmonious solutions, where great design classics such as the sculptural Arco lamp by Flos or the timeless chairs by Kartell, are accompanied by other elements created on design, first of all the kitchen. The icing on the cake is the bedroom, original, functional but above all bright, where also a small study area, a spacious wardrobe and a large en suite bathroom find place. Only three rooms for this large house that, removing the superfluous, finds in the essentiality its strong point.

[IT] “Less is more” sosteneva Mies van der Rohe, sintetizzando in questa celebre affermazione il pilastro della sua poetica: togliere piuttosto che aggiungere. Ed è proprio la filosofia a cui sembra essersi ispirato l’architetto Andrea Bella per la ristrutturazione di questa ampia casa torinese dei primi del ‘900, una casa dagli alti soffitti, dalle ampie vetrate e dalle ancor più grandi metrature. Quasi 160 mq di abitazione, inizialmente divisi in nove piccoli ambienti che, dopo l’ intervento di rinnovamento dell’architetto Bella, sono diventati solo tre. Una zona living, una cucina e una camera da letto, dalle tinte chiare e dal carattere arioso, dove tutto viene impreziosito dall’abbondanza di luce naturale che abbraccia le stanze, da terra a cielo. Abbattuti gli elementi non strutturali, quel che rimane sono lo spazio, la pulizia delle linee e l’essenza della casa stessa; una funzionalità totale intrisa di classe ed eleganza. Anche le scelte d’arredo rispecchiano questa vision, con soluzioni leggere e armoniche, dove grandi classici del design, come la scultorea lampada Arco di Flos o le intramontabili sedute di Kartell, si accompagnano ad altri elementi creati su disegno, prima tra tutti la cucina. Ciliegina sulla torta è la camera da letto, originale, funzionale e luminosa, dove trovano posto anche una piccola zona studio, un’armadiatura capiente e un ampio bagno en suite. Tre sole stanze, per questa grande casa che, eliminando il superfluo, trova nella essenzialità il suo punto forte.

ndrea Bella, graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the Polytechnic of Turin, after working for several years as an associate of the firm CBS Architetti Associati and as a teaching partner at the Faculty of Architecture of Turin in Mondovì, founded the studio that bears his name. In 2012 he exhibited some objects including the FLO table and the AB312 wooden seat at Biennale di Venezia and in the following years he won several awards in international competitions in the field of interior design, including IAA 2015 (International Architecture Award) and DAF 2016 (Dheli Architecture Festival). He prefers the search for the uniqueness of each project, understood as a specific and targeted realization of the desires and ideas of each client, and has a strong sensitivity to the psychological aspects that define the everyday life that he considers the spark of every inspiration.

or centuries, Qatarâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s economy was based on the trade in pearls. Doha was one of the most flourishing markets for this luxury item and today, not to forget tradition, the city has named Pearl Island the artificial island built as an urban expansion to residential destination in West Bay Lagoon. Pearl Island is one of the most fashionable neighborhoods in the capital and for this reason, next to the high rise skyscrapers, there are many private villas that have arisen in this place suspended between past and future. Among the most interesting houses there is certainly the house that we present today, a building facing the sea consists of three floors above ground, whose inner facade opens with degrees of glass in the direction of the infinity pool that completes the property. The interiors were designed by Peia Associati - Giampiero Peia with Marta Nasazzi. The architects opted for a minimalist style, but without forgetting references to the typical finishes of the area, such as the stairs windows that reinterpret the masharabiya in a contemporary and simplified way. Precious materials, such as marble and ebony wood, give uniqueness to the spaces; the continuous flooring between inside and outside helps to minimize the corrosive effects of salt, other measures in the finishes were necessary to resist the humid heat of the area and the burning sun. The heart of the house is the large living area, a wide open space rhythmed by wings that identify the dining room, the spacious living room with sofas for conversation and a relaxation room. In the living room, alcoves have been created to display some of the works of art, sculptures and paintings belonging to the ownersâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; private collection.

[IT] Per secoli, l’economia del Qatar si è basata sul commercio delle perle che venivano pescate. Doha era uno dei mercati più floridi per questo bene di lusso e oggi, per non dimenticare la tradizione, la città ha battezzato Pearl Island l’isola artificiale costruita come espansione urbana a destinazione residenziale nella West Bay Lagoon. La Pearl Island è uno dei quartieri più chic della capitale e per questo, accanto agli svettanti grattacieli, sono molte le ville private sorte in questo luogo sospeso tra passato e futuro. Tra le case più interessanti c’è di certo l’abitazione che vi presentiamo oggi, un edificio fronte mare composto da tre piani fuori terra, la cui facciata interna si apre con gradi vetrate in direzione della piscina a sfioro che completa la proprietà. Gli interni sono stati firmati dallo studio Peia Associati – Giampiero Peia con Marta Nasazzi. Gli architetti hanno optato per uno stile minimalista, che però non dimentica rimandi alle finiture tipiche della zona, come le vetrate del vano scale che reinterpretano la masharabiya, il tradizionale sistema arabo di raffreddamento degli ambienti, in chiave contemporanea e semplificata. Materiali preziosi, come marmo e legno di ebano, conferiscono unicità agli spazi; la pavimentazione continua tra interno ed esterno serve a minimizzare gli effetti corrosivi della salsedine, altri accorgimenti nelle finiture sono stati necessari per resistere al caldo umido dell’area e al sole cocente. Il cuore dell’abitazione è l’ampia zona giorno, un ampio open space ritmato da quinte che individuano la sala da pranzo, lo spazioso soggiorno con divani per conversare e una saletta relax. Nel living sono state ricavate nicchie per esporre alcune delle opere d’arte, sculture e dipinti appartenenti alla collezione privata dei proprietari.

fter his partnership with Piero Lissoni in 2006 Giampiero Peia founded Peia Associati with Marta Nasazzi. The studio carries out international design activities at various scales and of different types, from urban planning to interior design, from modular architectural design to the design of industrial products. The firm has received numerous prestigious international awards for many projects, including The Westin Resort in the Maldives, a complex of residential towers and commercial buildings in Shanghai, the tallest building in Doha, the “Ikeda per la Pace” Cultural Centre (the largest Buddhist temple in Europe), the Coca Cola Pavilion and its subsequent “Second Life” as a public structure in a park in Milan, which won the Toward a Sustainable EXPO Milano 2015 award and, in collaboration with Robonica, won first prize at the Vertical Farm International Awards. The studio designs and builds the Sri Lanka Pavilion, currently visible at the XXII Triennale “Broken Nature”, which clearly and pragmatically expresses the research and development work on the theme of sustainability, which in turn is fuelled by constant research into technologies, innovative materials and cutting-edge systems.

Lo studio svolge attività di progettazione a livello internazionale a varie scala e di differenti tipologie, dalla pianificazione urbana all’interior design, dalla progettazione architettonica modulare alla progettazione di prodotti industriali. Lo studio ha ricevuto numerosi e prestigiosi premi internazionali per diversi progetti tra cui The Westin Resort alle Maldive, un complesso di torri residenziali ed edifici commerciali a Shanghai, il più alto edificio a Doha, il Centro Culturale “Ikeda per la Pace” (il più grande tempio buddista in Europa), il Padiglione Coca Cola e la sua successiva “Second Life” come struttura pubblica in un parco di Milano, vincitore del premio Toward a Sustainable EXPO Milano 2015, e infine, in collaborazione con Robonica, il primo premio al Vertical Farm International Awards. etween the mountainous slopes of the autonomous community of Valencia, in the hinterland of the CastellĂłn province, hides a real architectural jewel. As a result of the collaboration between the Spanish studio Sanahuja & Partners and the Dutch sculptor Xander Spronken, who also commissioned it, this silent refuge is first and foremost a work of art. The house stands on a flat area overlooking the PeĂąagolosa Natural Park, towards which the building is mainly oriented. And it is precisely nature, its material composition and its characteristic colours that act as the leitmotif between the architectural choices. A building that expresses its essence without veils, enhancing the different surfaces and integrating with its surroundings. The transparency of glass allows daylight to pass through, transforming the atmosphere and amplifying the purity of the rooms, while the iron details underline the clean lines. The solidity of concrete, which is so

material and so impressive, is softened by the warm hues of the ceiling wood and the soul of the large beams straight from Rotterdam harbour. The house is divided into two units, the main one and the guest area, both conceived as separate homes. This was possible thanks to the clear distribution of the rooms, with a ground floor and a small mezzanine, both with great space and openings towards the outside. It is not difficult to imagine yourself enjoying the flowing of the hours as the day gets dark and the sky changes colour; it is not difficult to imagine yourself immersed in the peace of nature; it is certainly not difficult to imagine how the alternating seasons can turn into an incomparable show if enjoyed from the large windows of this house. A place with a special character that goes beyond canons of traditional houses, in the architectural lines, in the interior choices but also, and mainly, for the presence of Xanderâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s art, based on manual work of wrought iron.

[IT] Tra i pendii montuosi della comuni tà autonoma di Valencia, nell’entroterra della provincia di Castellón, si nasconde un vero e proprio gioiello architettonico. Frutto della collaborazione tra lo studio spagnolo Sanahuja & Partners e lo scultore olandese Xander Spronken, che ne è anche il committente, questo rifugio silenzioso è prima di tutto un’opera d’arte. La casa sorge in un’area pianeggiante che si affaccia sul Parco Naturale di Peñagolosa, verso cui la casa è principalmente orientata. Ed è proprio la natura, che la caratterizza e le dona i propri colori, a fungere da filo conduttore per le scelte architettoniche di Sanahuja. Il risultato è un edificio che esprime la sua essenza senza veli, esaltando le diverse superfici e integrandosi con ciò che lo circonda. La trasparenza del vetro lascia passare la luce del giorno, trasformando le atmosfere ed esaltando la purezza degli ambienti, mentre i dettagli in ferro ne sottolineano le linee pulite. La solidità del cemento poi, così materico, così d’impatto, viene addolcita dalle tinte calde del legno del soffitto e dall’estetica “vissuta” delle grandi travi che provengono direttamente dal porto di Rotterdam. La casa è divisa in due moduli: quello principale e l’area per gli ospiti, entrambi concepiti come abitazioni a sé stanti. Un’operazione che è stata possibile grazie alla chiara distribuzione degli ambienti, con un ampio piano terra e un piccolo soppalco, entrambi con grande spazialità e aperture verso l’esterno. Non è difficile immaginarsi ad assaporare lo scorrere delle ore mentre il giorno si fa buio e il cielo cambia colore; non è difficile immaginarsi immersi nella pace della natura; non è certo difficile immaginare come l’alternarsi delle stagioni possa trasformarsi in uno spettacolo ineguagliabile se gustato dalle grandi vetrate di questa casa. Un luogo con un carattere speciale che esula dai canoni delle abitazioni tradizionali, nelle linee architettoniche, nelle scelte di interior ma anche, e principalmente, per la presenza dell’opera di Xander, basata sul lavoro manuale del ferro battuto.

aime Sanahuja Rochera, architetto e Dottore Cum Laude alla Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Valencia (ETSAV), è docente universitario dal 2006 e insegna presso il Dipartimento di Progetti Architettonici dell’ETSAV. Direttore dello studio di architettura sanahuja&partners, ha iniziato la sua attività professionale alla fine degli anni ‘80 a Castellón. Lo studio ha attualmente sede a Valencia, Castellón e Ibiza, avendo raggiunto un posizionamento significativo nella Comunità Valenciana e nelle Isole Baleari. Jaime Sanahuja è stato docente presso varie università internazionali e forum tecnici relativi alla riabilitazione e all’architettura mediterranea contemporanea. La vicinanza alla cultura e all’essenza mediterranea offre una visione genuina dell’architettura, che viene trasferita a progetti di ogni tipo, tra cui le collaborazioni con Carlos Ferrater nel Centro Europeo per le Imprese Innovative e nella sede IMPIVA (1995) insieme al Centro Conferenze e Auditorium di Castellón de la Plana. Questo vale anche per le competizioni vinte per l’istituzione di Sant Joan de Deu a Barcellona, per l’Ospedale Psichiatrico e l’Auditorium del complesso ospedaliero e quelle organizzate dall’Istituto Cervantes per la biblioteca Octavio Paz a Parigi. Nel campo del recupero, vale la pena menzionare la ristrutturazione e la valorizzazione del Palau dels Osset de Forcall e del Cesal in Alcalà de Xivert, entrambi nella provincia di Castellón, oltre ai progetti d’ufficio per la sede aziendale di Sanlucar Fruit a Puçol e la nuova sede di Cajamar nella Plaza del Sol nel centro di Castellón de la Plana.

aime Sanahuja Rochera is an architect and Doctor Cum Laude at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Valencia (ETSAV). He has been a university lecturer since 2006 and teaches as an associate lecturer in the Department of Architectural Projects of the ETSAV. He is the director of the architectural studio sanahuja&partners, which began its professional activity in the late 80’s in Castellón and currently has offices in Valencia, Castellón and Ibiza, having achieved a significant positioning in the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands. He has been a lecturer at various international universities and technical forums related to rehabilitation and contemporary Mediterranean architecture. The closeness to Mediterranean culture and essence provide a genuine vision of the profession, which is transferred to projects of all kinds, among which the collaborations with Carlos Ferrater in the European Centre for Innovative Companies and IMPIVA headquarters (1995) along with the Conference Centre and Auditorium of Castellón de la Plana. Likewise, the competitions won for the Sant Joan de Deu institution in Barcelona for the Psychiatry Hospital and the Auditorium of the hospital complex and the one organised by the Cervantes Institute for the Octavio Paz library in Paris. ature is part of the Swiss DNA, and canton after canton there is no one where the urban context is not surrounded, and consequently embellished, by a strong landscape presence. A few kilometres from the Italian border, in Lugano-Paradiso, located in the heart of the Canton Ticino, rises the Nizza Paradise Residence. Surrounded by a lush postcard nature, this new building becomes part of the landscape and acquires its same forms. The careful analysis of the site conducted by Studio Mino Caggiula Architects was based mainly on the study of the context and the conformation of the land. The contour lines become the abstract image of a feminine silhouette, soft, sinuous and lying on the ground, creating a conceptual similitude that is the foundation of the entire project. The resulting architectural image

is a harmonious building with original volumes. Volumes that are faded upwards by the progression of its large terraces, from which you can enjoy a privileged view of Lake Lugano to the north, of the wood to the west and of the Guidino park to the east. These are the three main focal points towards which the entire project is oriented, important landscape perspectives that convey along as many pedestrian paths within the building. The result is a residential concept where the combination of everyday life and natural environment is primarily visible in the architectural language and where the identity of the residence itself is underlined by materials and natural elements, such as the main entrance, the green wall and the cantilever set in the slope that contains the SPA for the relaxation of the tenants.

[IT] La natura è senza dubbio parte del DNA nazionale svizzero, non c’è un solo cantone dove il contesto urbano non sia circondato, e di conseguenza impreziosito, da una forte presenza paesaggistica. A pochi chilometri dal confine italiano, in località Lugano-Paradiso, nel cuore operativo del Canton Ticino, sorge il Nizza Paradise Residence. Circondato da una rigogliosa natura da cartolina, questo nuovo edificio diventa a sua volta parte del paesaggio e ne assume le forme stesse. L’attenta analisi del luogo operata dallo Studio Mino Caggiula Architects si è basata infatti principalmente sullo studio del contesto e sulla conformazione del terreno. Le curve di livello diventano quindi l’immagine astratta di una silhouette femminile, morbida, sinuosa e adagiata sul terreno, dando vita ad una similitudine concettuale che fa da fondamento dell’intero

progetto. L’immagine architettonica che ne deriva è quella di un edificio armonico dagli originali volumi. Volumi che risultano sfumati verso l’alto grazie all’andamento delle sue grandi terrazze, da cui si gode di una vista privilegiata sul Lago di Lugano a nord, sul bosco a ovest e sul parco del Guidino a est. Questi i tre principali punti focali verso cui si orienta l’intero progetto, importanti prospettive paesaggistiche che convogliano lungo altrettanti percorsi pedonali all’interno dell’edificio. Ne deriva un concetto abitativo dove la coniugazione tra vita quotidiana e ambiente naturale risulta evidente principalmente nel linguaggio architettonico e dove l’identità stessa del residence viene sottolineata da materiali ed elementi naturali, come nell’accesso principale, nella parete verde e nello sbalzo incastonato nel declivio che contiene la SPA destinata al relax degli inquilini.

ino Caggiula began his career in Switzerland, in the construction company Michele Barra of Ascona. In 1997 he obtained his diploma as a building mason at SPAI in Biasca and in 2001 his diploma in Architecture at SUPSI in Lugano. To complete his technical education, he attended the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio, where he worked in various fields of construction and architectural design. Between 2004 and 2005 he attended Columbia University in New York with Prof. Arch. Kenneth Frampton. During this period he had an important work experience in the studio of the architect Steven Holl, with whom he won several international competitions: among these, the first places for the Herning Center of Arts in Denmark (opened in 2009), the museum for the City of Surfing and Ocean in Biarritz, France (opened in 2011) and the construction of the Linked Hybrid Complex in Beijing, China (opened in 2009). Between 2005 and 2007 he participated in numerous international conferences and obtained a Master of Art in Architecture at the Accademia di Mendrisio, with a project for the urban regeneration of the entire lagoon of Venice with the architect Elia Zenghelis: the project won the first prize SIA and the first prize Regione Veneto. While maintaining a close collaboration with Professor Architect Elia Zenghelis, he decided to pursue an individual career by founding his own architecture studio, Mino Caggiula Architects, in Lugano.

ino Caggiula inizia la propria carriera in Svizzera, nell’impresa di costruzione Michele Barra di Ascona. Nel 1997 consegue il diploma di Muratore edile presso la SPAI di Biasca e nel 2001 il diploma in Architettura presso la SUPSI di Lugano. Tra il 2004 e il 2005 frequenta la Columbia University di New York con il Prof. Arch. Kenneth Frampton. Durante questo periodo ha un’importante esperienza lavorativa presso lo studio dell’architetto Steven Holl, con cui vince diversi concorsi internazionali: tra questi, i primi posti per l’Herning Center of Arts in Danimarca (inaugurato nel 2009), il museo per la Città del Surf e dell’Oceano a Biarritz in Francia (inaugurato nel 2011) e la costruzione del Linked Hybrid Complex a Beijing, Cina (inaugurato nel 2009). The important past of history, tradition and art becomes the common thread that links the exterior to the interior of the creative hotel Lords of Verona, one of the last projects of architect Simone Micheli. Artistic photografy, customized living solutions and domotic systems transform this hotel into a real experience for guest.. Starting from selected materials, cromatic and innovative solutions, Italia & Partners team works on an old hotel in the Turin's Region, aiming to tranform it in a confortable and contemporary place where to find the feeling of a private house. A hotel that connects past and future, offering all the comforts of contemporary hospitality in a completely renovated early 20th-century “ringhiera” house: that's the core of the project architect Aldo Cibic realized in the design distrcit of Milan. Colours, customized objects and decorations make this unconventional hotel a dynamic and energetic space.. . Taking inspiration from its name, 4REST which means both Forest and ForRest, the interior designer Iryna Kozachuk has studied for this restaurant in Lursk, Ukraine, a concept of integration between nature and the city. Prendendo spunto dal suo nome, 4REST, che vuole indicare sia Forest (foresta ) che ForRest (per il riposo), l’interior designer Iryna Kozachuk ha studiato un concept di ristorante che unisce la natura nella città di Lutsk in Ucraina.

a Ling Jiao Village has existed for hundreds of years: houses built little by little on an arid ground in remote mountains. The Village is just like the one with ancient trees painted in the famous “Traveling amid Mountains and Streams”. Ye means wild in Chinese. Perhaps a proper attitude to historical heritages could be to use a “reversible design” to allow later generations to see the vein of times, just like ancient pottery restoration. Incomplete parts, after splicing and bonding, need to be repaired with a principle of fewer but better. Maybe designers could be freer and enjoyed it. At the Ye Ma Ridge, every room is different and is arranged according to the original houses plan. At the very beginning of design, there was something like a quiet dialogue between me and this empty village; then I started to study to put a restaurant here, build a library there… Design, in this planning phase, becomes a result of a discussion with this old village and a choice about what could do and what should not do was made. We tried our best to restore the village with the same appearance of its past so the people who used to know it can still recognize it. Through one-and-a-half-year of design and construction, Ye Ma Ridge has taken shape: a mountainous settlement for friends to get together. About forty old houses have been renovated and villagers can abandon themselves to nature here. Ye Ma Ridge is the life we yearn for, where we could dream together, work hard to turn the virtual to reality or, like the one-thousand-year old tree at the entrance of the village, to indicate that I am still growing... Our Studio is concerned about the surroundings and pays attention to life. Designers all are souls living in the bodies of others, feel the current moment, live in the present and express the present; we can go further when walking together.

[IT] Il villaggio Ma Ling Jiao Village esiste da centinaia di anni: case costruite a poco a poco su un terreno arido, scogliere ripide e burroni in montagne remote. Proprio come quello degli alberi secolari dipinti in “Viaggiare tra montagne e ruscelli”. Un atteggiamento corretto nei confronti dei patrimoni storici dovrebbe essere quello di usare un “design reversibile” per permettere alle generazioni successive di vedere la vena dei tempi, proprio come avviene nei restauri delle ceramiche antiche. Le parti incomplete, dopo la giunzione e l’incollaggio, devono essere riparate secondo il principio del “poco ma meglio”. Il gesso per esempio deve essere utilizzato con lo scopo di consentire una chiara distinzione tra le parti riparate e la materia originale. In tal modo, forse, i progettisti potrebbero essere liberi e godersi il proprio lavoro. Allo Ye Ma Ridge ogni stanza è diversa dall’altra e rispetta il progetto originale della casa. All’inizio del progetto c’è stato solo un dialogo tranquillo tra me e un villaggio vuoto; non c’erano abitanti, non c’era il fumo dei camini. Poi, come d’istinto, ho iniziato a

pensare di mettere un ristorante qui, a costruire una biblioteca là... Il progetto in questa fase è diventato il risultato di una discussione tra me e questo vecchio villaggio e ho dovuto fare una scelta su cosa si poteva fare e cosa non si doveva fare. Abbiamo fatto del nostro meglio per restaurare il villaggio con lo stesso aspetto del suo passato perché la gente che lo conosceva potesse ancora riconoscerlo e chiamarlo Ye Ma Ridge. Attraverso un anno e mezzo di progettazione e costruzione il progetto ha così preso forma. Una quarantina di vecchie case sono state ristrutturate per permettere agli ospiti del villaggio di abbandonarsi alla natura. Ye Ma Ridge adesso è l’immagine della vita che aneliamo, dove è possibile sognare insieme, il frutto di un lavoro sodo per trasformare il virtuale nella realtà. Il nostro Studio è sensibilmente preoccupato per l’ambiente circostante e fa sempre attenzione alla vita. Io penso che i designer siano tutti “anime che vivono nel corpo degli altri”, sentono il presente, vivono il presente, esprimono il presente ma possono progredire solo se camminano insieme.

Interior Architecture Design

nterior Architecture Design was founded by Sun Yun and Shen Lei in April, 2004. The two team members have recognized the isolated nature of interior design from the building shell; through an amalgamation of their varied backgrounds and experience in architecture and stage design, together they breach this divide to create rich and multicultural works. Their projects approach space in a broad understanding of the term, to effectively blend interior and exterior architecture. These efforts define the foundation of Interior Architecture Design. Interior Architecture Design’s unique approach is to analyze the blend of architecture and interiors as an integrated space, from this point on new designs are envisioned. he history of the Lords of Verona is a modern tale about the courage to dare and the encounter of two similar spirits, in this case the one of the client and the one of the architect Simone Micheli. In order to fully understand the project’s journey, it is essential to define the context: it is located in Piazza dei Signori, famous for the splendid historical buildings, in the heart of Verona. An important past of history, tradition and artistic sense, which in the Lords of Verona is not forgotten, but rather becomes the common thread that links the exterior to the interior.”Past and future have skilfully merged, giving shape to altered environments from a spatio-temporal point of view, evanescent, white atmospheres, pure areas where distinctions and absolutes have lost prestige,” explains Micheli, “I wanted to transform a place already full of history and meaning into a container of vivid emotions, into a catalyst of positive energy able to make the experience lived inside unforgettable.” The 32 luxury apartments of the estate are in fact inextricably linked to the city and its past, as can be seen in the recovery of the stone walls and in the structure of the ancient medieval tower of the Casa della Pietà, which frames this timeless place. Even the personalized wallpaper with images of the photographer Maurizio Marcato, helps to establish a link between inside and outside, between ancient and modern. Ancient as the light, reflecting on the surrounding buildings, that bathes the large rooms; modern as the technological solutions used for lighting and domotic systems.

[IT] La storia del Lords of Verona è una para bola moderna sul coraggio di osare e sull’incontro di due spiriti affini, in questo caso quello del committente e quello dell’architetto Simone Micheli. Per comprendere fino in fondo il viaggio progettuale affrontato è fondamentale inquadrarne il contesto: siamo in Piazza dei Signori, famosa per gli splendidi palazzi storici che vi si affacciano, nel pieno centro di Verona. Un passato importante, fatto di storia, tradizione e senso artistico, che nel Lords of Verona non viene dimenticato, anzi, diventa il filo conduttore che lega gli esterni agli interni. “ Passato e futuro si sono abilmente fusi dando forma ad ambienti alterati dal punto di vista spazio-temporale, atmosfere evanescenti, candide, aree pure in cui le distinzioni e gli assoluti hanno perso prestigio.” spiega Micheli, “ho voluto trasformare un luogo già denso di storia e significato in un contenitore di emozioni vivide, in un catalizzatore di energia positiva in grado di rendere indimenticabile l’esperienza vissuta al suo interno.” I 32 luxury apartment che compongono il complesso sono infatti indissolubilmente legati alla città e al suo passato, come si nota nel recupero delle mura in pietra e nella struttura dell’antica torre Medioevale della Casa della Pietà che fa da cornice a questo luogo senza tempo. Anche la carta da parati personalizzata con le immagini d’autore del fotografo Maurizio Marcato, che racconta la sua visione della città, contribuisce a creare un legame tra dentro e fuori, tra antico e moderno. Antico come la luce che riflettendosi sui palazzi circostanti irrora le ampie stanze, moderno come le soluzioni tecnologiche d’impiantistica utilizzate per l’illuminazione e per i sistemi domotici.

imone Micheli founded his Studio in 1990 and in 2003 the Simone Micheli Architectural Hero Company, based in Florence, Milan Dubai and Rabat. His professional activity moves towards different directions: from architecture to interior design, from visual design to communication; his eco-friendly and nature-oriented creations are characterized by strong identity and uniqueness. Many of his works are realized for public administration and for important private clients linked with the residential world. His works have been shown in the most important international exhibitions; he held conferences and lessons in universities and cultural institutes of many cities; his publications are on the most important national and international magazines. There are many interviews dedicated to his works and his last monograph “Simone Micheli From The Future to The Past” published in 2012 is a selection of projects belonging to his last twenty years of activity.

eviving a hotel is not a small deal. Older hotels are unattractive or are considered overlooked; contemporary ones are likely to be cold and impersonal. A successful renovation is the one signed by the studio Italia and Partners for the Hotel Europa in Chivasso, a town just outside Turin. The refurbishment works started in 2016 with the restyling of the restaurant, transported into the second millennium through the use of smoked glass and metal. Later on, the hall was renovated. The lobby was treated like a private living room, with cozy seats and small coffee tables spread out in the space to rest the drinks from the bar. The original floor in precious green marble has been preserved, while the counter has been made from scratch. The environment is particularly welcoming because of the wallpaper with classic Hermes motif and because of the open bookcase with wooden shelves, a trick adopted by the architects to â&#x20AC;&#x153;maskâ&#x20AC;? the supporting column in the middle of the conversation area, thus transforming a weak point of the space into the design fulcrum around which everything revolves. The concept of simple luxury, specific to the common areas, is also found in the guest rooms, a total of 32. Currently, 4 deluxe rooms on the top floor have been redesigned. The accommodations can be reached via a corridor with vitamin-rich orange walls; the warm hue of the passages leads to oil blue, grey and caramel brown in the rooms. The floor is made of wood-like porcelain stoneware and the tiles are also laid on the wall at the head of the bed: a new and ingenious solution, as it guarantees maximum hygiene and durability over time. In addition to some production items such as Flos lamps and Calligaris chairs, the team from Italia and Partners designed custom-made furnishings. The wardrobe and the multi-functional desk, which integrates the luggage rack and the mini-bar, have been created ad hoc.

[IT] Riportare in auge una struttura alber ghiera non è affare da poco. Gli hotel datati risultano poco attraenti o sono considerati trascurati; quelli contemporanei rischiano di essere freddi e impersonali. Una ristrutturazione di certo vincente è quella firmata dallo studio Italia and Partners per l’Hotel Europa di Chivasso, cittadina alle porte di Torino. I lavori di ammodernamento sono iniziati nel 2016 con il restyling del ristorante, traghettato nel secondo millennio attraverso l’uso di vetro fumé e metallo. In seguito è stata interessata da ristrutturazione la hall. La lobby è stata trattata alla stregua di un soggiorno privato, con sedute avvolgenti e piccoli tavolini da caffè distribuiti nello spazio per appoggiare i drink preparati al bar. Il pavimento originale in pregiato marmo verde è stato preservato, mentre il bancone è stato realizzato ex novo. L’ambiente è reso particolarmente accogliente dalla carta da parati con classico motivo Hermes e dalla libreria a giorno con mensole di legno, un escamotage che gli architetti hanno adottato per “mascherare” la colonna portante al centro della zona conversazione, riuscendo così a trasformare un punto debole dello spazio nel fulcro progettuale attorno cui tutto ruota. Il concetto di lusso semplice, proprio delle aree comuni, si ritrova anche nelle camere per gli ospiti, 32 in tutto. Al momento sono state ammodernate le 4 deluxe dell’ultimo piano. Gli alloggi si raggiungono percorrendo un corridoio dalle vitaminiche pareti arancioni; la calda tonalità che caratterizza i collegamenti cede il passo al blu petrolio, al grigio e al marrone caramello all’interno delle stanze. Il pavimento è realizzato in gres effetto legno e le piastrelle sono posate anche a parete in corrispondenza della testata del letto: una soluzione inedita e geniale, perché garantisce il massimo dell’igiene e della durabilità nel tempo. Accanto ad alcuni arredi di produzione, come le lampade Flos e le sedie Calligaris, il team di Italia and Partners ha realizzato complementi su disegno. Sono stati realizzati ad hoc l’armadio e la scrivania polifunzionale che integra il porta-valigie e il frigo-bar.

talia and Partners was founded in 2013 from the union of the two architecture and design studios Dedalo Architettura and Matita lab, with the aim of offering increasingly advanced and global consultancy for architecture, combining their know-how. Together with his father Vincenzo, the architect Matteo Italia coordinates the Turin-based studio, focusing mainly on the residential segment. Born in 1984, Matteo Italia graduated in architecture from the Poolitecnico of Turin in 2010, but even before graduating, at a very young age, he designed his own clothing line and collaborated with many internationally renowned companies. He has to his credit numerous projects, mainly residential but also for contract projects, including hotels, shops, restaurants, public places. Since 2010 he has also been an architectural consultant for the Onlywood store in Turin.

he new Savona 18 Suites is located in Zona Tortona, one of the “hot spots” for design and creativity in Milan. It is a hotel that connects the past and future, offering all the comforts of contemporary hospitality in a completely renovated early 20th-century “ringhiera” house. The project was developed by Aldo Cibic, who was able to give his interpretation of the “Old Milan” giving the spaces a contemporary mood, based on bright colors and pieces of furniture of strong character. “ I have experienced Savona 18 like a big house - said Aldo Cibic - intending to make it an intimate and welcoming place in the centre of Milan’s fashion and design district”. The hotel - as well as the Milanese public housing - revolves around a private courtyard, the fulcrum of sociality, transformed by the architect into an open-air lounge with sofas and tables that invite you to relax. “When you go out into the courtyard you live the deeply Milanese experience of living in a ringhiera house, where-

as the wall-painting is the quotation of an incomplete skyline, poetic in its soft colors”. The lobby, with its Tibetan-style counter (customized by Fratelli Boffi) and the yellow bench (Bisazza), is welcoming and inclusive as it winks at multi-culturality, without forgetting Memphis’ lesson in the choice of vitamin shades. Sofas, carpets, chandeliers, mirrors and accessories by Aldo Cibic and Paola C. by Aldo Cibic decorate the lounge area and the Petit Cafè “A cosy living room, with many things clustered together like different fruits” explains Aldo Cibic. The strong relationship between space, objects and colors continues in the guest rooms, 43 in all, each with an exclusive fit-out, based on the combination of vintage accessories and production furniture. The complements that define the interiors of Savona 18 Suites can be purchased by customers, just like inside a gallery: a liaison between hotellerie and design showroom that makes the structure even more contemporary.

[IT] Si trova in Zona Tortona, una delle “aree calde” per il design e la creatività milanesi, il nuovo Savona 18 Suites, un hotel che connette passato e futuro, offrendo tutte le comodità dell’hospitality contemporanea all’interno di una casa di ringhiera dei primi del ‘900 completamente ristrutturata. Il progetto è stato firmato da Aldo Cibic, che ha saputo dare la sua interpretazione della “Vecchia Milano” conferendo agli spazi un mood contemporaneo, che si basa su tonalità accese e pezzi d’arredo di grande carattere. “Savona 18 l’ho vissuta come una grande casa – ha dichiarato Aldo Cibic - nel senso di renderla un posto intimo e accogliente nel centro del fashion e design district di Milano”. L’albergo – così come le abitazioni popolari meneghine – ruota tutto attorno a un cortile privato interno, fulcro della socialità, trasformato dall’ architetto in un salotto open air con divani e tavolini che invitano al relax. “Quando si esce nella corte si vive l’esperienza profondamente milanese di abitare in una casa di ringhiera, mentre il murale è la citazione di uno skyline incompleto, poetico nei suoi colori tenui”. La lobby, con bancone in stile tibetano (customizzato da Fratelli Boffi) e panca gialla (Bisazza), si dichiara accogliente e inclusiva perché strizza l’occhio alla multi-culturalità, senza dimenticare la lezione di Memphis nella scelta delle tonalità vitaminiche. Divani, tappeti, lampadari, specchi e accessori, firmati Aldo Cibic e Paola C. by Aldo Cibic decorano invece la zona lounge e il Petit Cafè “Un salotto raccolto, con tante cose che sono come frutti diversi che stanno insieme” spiega Aldo Cibic. La forte relazione tra spazio, oggetti e cromatismi continua nelle camere per gli ospiti, 43 in tutto, ognuna con un fit out esclusivo, basato sull’accostamento di complementi vintage e mobili di produzione. AC Aldo Cibic

ldo Cibic was born in Schio in 1955; he approached the world of design as a self-taught person. In 1977 he met Ettore Sottsass in Milan. He became a partner of Sottsass Associati and in 1981 he was one of the founders of Memphis. Cibic immediately adopted the “experimentation as a praxis” method. At the end of the 1980s he founded Studio Cibic and in 1991 he launched Standard, his first self-produced collection. In those days he also started to perform research activities with schools, thus giving life to the concept of service design. Projects such as The Solid Side (1995) and New Stories New Design (2002) encourage a dynamic relationship between Man and space and propose an original way of designing places with reference to social interactions. With the same vocation Microrealities (2004) and Rethinking Happiness (2010), both featured at the Venice Biennial of Architecture, invented stories that aimed at increasing the opportunities for sharing in our collective lives. In 2010 he founded the Cibic Workshop, a multidisciplinary research centre, that still focuses on developing alternative and sustainable projects with a view to enhancing the territory and defining a new awareness of public space. Aldo Cibic teaches at the Polytechnic School of Milan, the IUAV (University of Architecture) in Venice and the Domus Academy. He is honorary professor at the Tongji University of Shanghai.

Progetti come The Solid Side (1995) e New Stories New Design (2002) incoraggiano una relazione dinamica tra l’uomo e lo spazio e propongono una modalità originale di progettazione dei luoghi rispetto alle dinamiche sociali. Con la stessa vocazione Microrealities (2004) e Rethinking Happiness (2010), entrambi presentati alla Biennale di Architettura di Venezia, inventano storie volte a moltiplicare le occasioni di condivisione nella vita collettiva. Nel 2010 fonda il Cibic Workshop, centro multidisciplinare di ricerca, che si dedica all’elaborazione di tipologie progettuali alternative e sostenibili, rivolte alla valorizzazione del territorio e alla definizione di una nuova coscienza dello spazio pubblico. ike many Ukrainian cities, Lutsk has a double soul, the historical one of its narrow streets and its impressive castle, and the modern one of its great boulevards and numerous art galleries. One of the oldest cities in Ukraine, where modernity and tradition, nature and buildings meet, collide and blend, in a dance of contrasts and harmonies that makes this city so exciting. Among the new additions to the local scene stands 4REST, a restaurant specializing in meat. Contemporary and captivating, it is not only appreciated for its good food, but also for its original and elegant look. Taking inspiration from its name, which means both Forest and ForRest, the interior designer Iryna Kozachuk has studied for this restaurant a concept of integration, of union between nature and the city. A place where you can relax feeling at the same time lost in a large forest, and in the comfortable modernity of a city. This can be seen in the furniture solutions, designed to recall wood, stone and fire, and in the lighting, veiled and very warm, that allows people to dream of being close to a large bonfire. But the echoes of the forest are not over: the elegant copper panels are a clear reminder of pine cones, while the ceramic and wood finishes of the walls recall the great firs. Wood and tiles of the floor create a strong discontinuity effect. The highlight of the restaurant, however, is certainly the large veranda with its wide windows and its thousand of suggestions, one of those places where one is pleased to stay a little longer to be embraced by the outside light. The forest effect would not have been complete without a delicate and decorative presence of greenery that, in addition to the aesthetic value, contributes in this context to unify the entire project under the sign of eco-style.

[IT] Come molte città ucraine, anche Lut sk ha una doppia anima: quella storica delle strette stradine e dell’imponente castello che la domina e quella moderna dei grandi viali e delle numerose gallerie d’arte. Una città tra le più antiche dell’Ucraina dove modernità e tradizione, natura ed edifici si incontrano, si scontrano e si amalgamano, in una danza di contrasti e armonie che la rende elettrizzante. Tra le new entry del panorama locale c’è 4REST, un ristorante specializzato in carne. Contemporaneo e accattivante, non è solamente apprezzato per la buona cucina, ma anche per il suo look originale ed elegante. Prendendo spunto dal suo nome, che vuole indicare sia Forest ( foresta ) che ForRest ( per il riposo), l’interior designer Iryna Kozachuk ha studiato per questo locale un concept di integrazione, di unione, tra la natura e la città. Un luogo dove potersi riposare sentendosi allo stesso tempo persi in una grande foresta, ma nella comoda modernità di una città. Lo si nota nelle soluzioni d’arredo, studiate per richiamare il legno, la pietra e il fuoco, e nell’illuminazione, velata e molto calda, per riscaldare e far immaginare di essere vicini a un grande falò. Ma gli echi della foresta non finiscono qui: gli eleganti pannelli in rame sono un chiaro richiamo alle pigne, mentre le finiture in ceramica e legno delle pareti rimandano la mente ai grandi abeti. Anche l’alternanza di parquet e ceramiche nei pavimenti contribuisce a creare quel senso di dinamica disconinuità che è alla base dell’intero progetto. Il pezzo forte del ristorante è però sicuramente la grande veranda dalle ampie vetrate e dalle mille suggestioni, uno di quei luoghi dove si ha piacere a trattenersi un po’ di più per lasciarsi abbracciare dalla luce esterna. E per finire, l’effetto foresta non sarebbe stato completo senza una delicata e decorativa presenza di piante che oltre all’apporto estetico, contribuisce in questo contesto ad unificare l’intero progetto sotto il segno dell’eco-style.

ryna Kozachuk was born in Lutsk, Ukraine in 1986 and started her design activity in 2007 after graduating design courses in Kyiv, while being a student of lawyer faculty at Kyiv International University. Her life direction has changed after a “work and travel” experience in the USA, working as a waitress in a hotel restaurant THE BALSAMS Grand Resort in 2006. This journey helped her to realize that in life you need to do what you love, so design and architecture became her passion. Ten years of self-education and partnership work with design agency bring her to found her own studio in 2017. DESIGN HOUSE COLIBRI is specialized in private and public interiors, architectural planning and landscape design. The project of a meat restaurant “4REST” won an International Interior Award “Interium•2019”.

In the cities, above all, the problem has become an imperative priority, and the quality of the air is doomed to become even worse if no action will be taken in a short time. One of these cutting-edge companies is called Green City Solution and is based in Berlin. Pursuing its mission of combining IoT (Internet

In addition to being sober and functional street furniture, these benches are real filters for the purification of the air that, exploiting the natural powers of moss, refresh the surrounding environment through the evaporation of water. Not to mention that these green walls also offer protection from noise pollution, and add green spaces to the busy urban areas. As the tried and tested experiences of cities that have always been at the forefront when it comes to the environment - including Oslo, Hamburg and Berlin - demonstrate: changing is possible, just by wanting it!

Purtroppo per il nostro pianeta, sono rimasti pochi i luoghi dove poter beneficiare di una sana boccata d'aria. Nelle città, soprattutto, il problema è diventato di imperativa priorità, e la qualità dell'aria è destinata a peggiorare ulteriormente se non verranno presi provvedimenti in breve tempo. Per fortuna esistono aziende che sono disposte a credere e investire in quella che non è solo la causa di un piccolo gruppo di persone, ma dell'umanità intera. Una di queste realtà d'avanguardia si chiama Green City Solution e ha sede a Berlino. Portando avanti la missione di combinare la tecnologia IoT

(Internet of Things) con la natura stessa, questa pionieristica giovane realtà, ha sviluppato City Tree. Oltre ad essere un arredo urbano sobrio e funzionale, queste panchine sono dei veri e propri filtri per la purificazione dell'aria che, sfruttando i poteri naturali del muschio, rinfrescano l'ambiente circostante attraverso l'evaporazione dell'acqua. Senza dimenticare, poi, che queste pareti verdi offrono riparo anche dall'inquinamento sonoro, e aggiungono spazi verdi alle trafficate aree urbane. Come testimoniano le collaudate esperienze di città da sempre in prima linea quando si parla di ambiente -tra cui Oslo, Amburgo e Berlino- cambiare è possibile, basta volerlo!

ALIAS Fashion and design, art and gourmet pleasures get together at Kashiyama Daikanyama, the new commercial complex in Tokyo designed by Nendo. The building is a system of boxes stacked one on top of the other in a staggered arrangement, and each roof is an open-air living room. The attractive and relaxing sofas installed on the balconies are from the Dehors collection, designed by Michele De Lucchi for Alias. Drawing their inspiration from nature, with its irregular and asymmetrical shapes, the seats offer a new interpretation of the concept of exposed structure: formal solidity and stylistic spontaneity combine to form a contemporary nest

MINOTTI Many products from the Minotti collection were chosen for the design of the spaces of The Miraka, the first undersea residence in the world, one of the most exclusive locations in the Maldives. A unique project that is the perfect synthesis of contemporary design and technology, an architectural wonder that spans an area that lies both above and below the surface of the Indian Ocean. Among featured Minotti’s product a large Florida seating system, a sofa designed by Rodolfo Dordoni, entirely upholstered in fabric and conceived for outdoor spaces.

LONGHI This year marks the 60th anniversary of Longhi. The Brianza-based company has chosen to celebrate this important milestone with a complete restyling of its production site and the opening of a new company showroom. The exhibition covers an area of 1.200 square meters and displays the iconic pieces, along with the novelties of 2019 Collection.

FLOS Mario Bellini likes to experiment and so, in 1969, designed the Chiara lamp. It was simply a sheet of aluminum, cut and rolled into a cylinder. Its light, sculptured, form - almost European origami - provided light thanks to a source placed on the floor and hidden by the structure. The light it supplies is reflected and diffused by a huge ‘hat’ that looks like a nun’s wimple and veil. In 2019, to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary, Flos presents a reedition of Chiara with two models (standard and table) in different finishes (stainless steel in polished, matte bronze or polished black versions), equipped with a LED source..

VISIONNAIRE Visionnaire moves forward with its collaboration with the most prestigious shipyards, joining forces this year with Baglietto for a special initiative unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show in September. Visionnaire is a partner for the launch of MY Severin’s, a Baglietto yacht with a length of 55 m, installing a lounge area for the owner with a number of the most outstanding pieces from the living collection. They include the Bastian area designed by Mauro Lipparini, Backstage area by Fabio Bonfà, and Horizon and Tea Party low tables both by Alessandro La Spada.

MOON "That’s one small step for (a) man, one giant leap for mankind." It was July 1969 when Neil Armstrong pronounced these words, walking on the surface of the moon for the first time. There are many design objects related to this event: the Allunaggio outdoor seat, designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for Zanotta - conceived to minimize ground support, the Moon lamp by Davide Groppi - a dreamy suspension that allows you to have the sky in a room. Moon is also the name of the Modo 10 line of furniture, characterized by a decoration inspired by the craters of our satellite.

TURRI Turri is continuing its expansion with the opening of a new showroom in London. The project was entrusted entirely to the creative mind of Andrea Bonini, the brand’s foremost designer, who developed the concept of the interiors and inserted elements to maximiZe the approximately 200 square meters surface area of the second floor of the iconic Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour. The showroom embodies Turri’s most modern dimension, taking its inspiration from the Milan Flagship Store concept but enhancing and slightly modifying it with a series of more international and cosmopolitan interiors. The portrait of a contemporary living concept, located in a new international setting.

LAGO The View Lifestyle Apartments is the new hospitality project by LAGO in Baveno, a Piemontese town on the shores of Lake Maggiore, halfway between Turin and Milan. The residence occupies a former residential condominium, converted by architects Mauro Bissattini, and consists of 8 apartments designed for the needs of couples, families or friends. The interiors are made welcoming by the modular solutions of LAGO, which has supplied beds, tables, cupboards, armchairs and chairs from the Air collection.
