e have been through difficult months but I know we will come back stronger than ever. Stronger than ever: I used it like a mantra in the past months and today it is even

more. HOME Italia continues, we don't want to stop, because we’re an Italian product and we, Italians ,are tough fighters. After every great crisis we had great rebirths ‘cause we give our best in moments of great difficulty. I think this is a very peculiar Italian virtue. So, once again, we must reconfirm ourselves as "Italians". Despite the cancellation of the Salone del Mobile and the terrible global crisis, HOME Italia has realized the April issue and now here we’re with the new July release. It will be the “restart issue”, as I like to call it, because it will confirm to all our readers and friends that we are always with them. As you may have noticed in the previous months, we are now more and more projected to new international markets: our goal is to introduce Made in Italy of our partner companies to builders, architects and private customers all around the world. China and the United States are now the two main business markets of HOME Italia, others will come. I'm sure of it and I'm already moving.

We’re working along with a group of builders, architects and private clients who are constantly relying on us for their projects, choosing Italian furniture for their homes. This is our goal. What we want to do is to help the companies and architects who are part of the HOME Italia Club to grow up, to project, furnish and communicate together ! That’s why, even in the dark months of lockdown, we have planned, the new HOME Italia website, online from September 1, 2020. This website that will completely change our corporate image, because it has been designed to better identify the new reality that reflects and distinguishes us today. We want to be more and more a company that offers project and contract services to architects and international builders, the real Made in Italy lovers. Maybe I’m a little redundant but I want to underline that HOME Italia has really defined its mission: to project, furnish and communicate all over the world. To realize this mission it in the best way will be the next goal that we want to share with the companies and architects that are part of our Club. Luca Valle

ono stati mesi difficili per tutti noi ma ho la consapevolezza che alla fine ritorneremo più forti di prima. Questo è stato il mio unico pensiero nei mesi passati e oggi lo è ancora di più. HOME Italia continua, non si vuole fermare, perché è un prodotto italiano e noi italiani siamo fatti cosi. Dopo ogni crisi siamo sempre stati capaci di grandi rinascite e abbiamo dimostrato di dare il meglio nei momenti di difficoltà. Penso che questa sia una delle qualità ci differenzia dal resto del mondo. Quindi, ancora una volta, dobbiamo riconfermarci “italiani“. Nonostante la cancellazione del Salone del Mobile e la crisi che ha colpito tutto il settore, HOME Italia è uscita con il numero di aprile e ora si presenta con una nuova edizione a luglio. Sarà l’edizione della ripartenza, cosi mi piace definirla, perché darà la conferma a tutti i nostri lettori che siamo sempre al loro fianco. Come avrete notato nei mesi precedenti, siamo ormai sempre più proiettati alla conquista di nuovi mercati internazionali, con l’obiettivo principale di far conoscere il Made in Italy delle nostre aziende partner a costruttori, architetti e clienti privati nel mondo. La Cina e gli Stati Uniti sono ormai i due mercati principali del business di HOME Italia ma altri ne arriveranno. Ne sono certo e già mi sto muovendo. Abbiamo già un gruppo di costruttori, architetti e clienti privati fidelizzati che in maniera continuativa si appoggia a noi per i progetti e per la scelta di arredamento italiano nelle case. Questo è il nostro obiettivo, quello che vogliamo: far crescere le aziende e gli architetti che fanno parte del Club di HOME Italia e aiutarli a progettare, arredare e comunicare! Proprio per questo, anche nei mesi di lockdown, abbiamo pianificato, pensato e ideato in ogni minimo dettaglio, il NUOVO SITO DI HOME ITALIA, che sarà’ online dal 1 settembre 2020. Un sito che cambierà’ completamente la nostra immagine, perché è stato progettato su misura per meglio identificare la realtà che ad oggi ci rispecchia e contraddistingue. Vogliamo essere sempre di più una società che offre servizi di progettazione e di arredo a tutti quei clienti, architetti e costruttori internazionali che amano e vogliono il Made in italy. Non vorrei sembrare ripetitivo ma ci tengo a sottolineare che HOME Italia ha veramente definito la propria missione che è: progettare, arredare, comunicare nel mondo. Realizzarla al meglio sarà l’obiettivo che vogliamo condividere con le aziende e gli architetti che fanno parte del nostro Club. Luca Valle

A DESIGN PROJECT NEEDS TO DEAL WITH DIFFERENT FORMS OF CREATIVITY. THE NEW BLUES COLLECTION OF TURRI DRAWS INSPIRATION FROM THE WORLD OF FASHION. HERE IS THE MOODBOARD THAT LED TO THE BIRTH OF THIS DISTINCTIVE DESIGN.

design project, a sofa, a table or other, can originate from a variety of references. Architectural elements can be the inspiration for a new project. Just as nature can be a source of inspiration for colors or the choice of new materials, so fashion can help to find the glamorous touch of an entire collection. The search for references that come from the world of art, fashion, and architecture is an opportunity for Studio Viganò to approach a design project in a transversal way. A product can be born at any time also from pictorial concepts or glamorous details; other times, instead, it is the architectural gestures that create intriguing shapes that then develop into new proposals. Interior design and fashion are strongly linked. Bringing fashion into the world of furniture is one of studio Viganò's mission statements leading to the creation of design with stylish connotations. Often the experimentation or use of a new material becomes for us a starting point for the conception, not only of a product but of an entire collection.

The details and accessories are the distinctive element of a fashion garment, the touch of class that embellishes and makes the style of creation unique. The same thing happens in furniture, where the detail manages to give character to the product. What distinguishes the Blues Collection, designed for Turri, is the search for a detail, a small jewel, an element of high craftsmanship that runs throughout the living area, from the sofa to the accessories, and continues in the sleeping area, giving a touch of class to a collection with modern features. Everything, from the upholstered furniture to the accessories, generates an atmosphere of "luxurious cleanliness", a "minimal chic". The new luxury is sophisticated minimalism, where craftsmanship plays a fundamental role. Spesso la sperimentazione o l’utilizzo di un nuovo materiale diventa per noi un punto di partenza per l’ideazione, non solo di un prodotto, ma di un'intera collezione. I dettagli e gli accessori sono l'elemento distintivo di un capo moda, il tocco di classe che impreziosisce e rende unico lo stile di una creazione. La stessa cosa succede nell’arredamento, dove il det-

taglio riesce a dare il carattere al prodotto. Ciò che contraddistingue la Collezione Blues, disegnata per Turri, è la ricerca di un dettaglio, di un piccolo gioiello, di quell'elemento qualificante di grande artigianalità che percorre tutta la zona living, dal divano ai complementi, e che prosegue nella zona notte, regalando un tocco di classe a una collezione dai caratteri moderni. Tutto, in questa collezione, dagli imbottiti ai complementi, genera un’atmosfera di “pulizia lussuosa”, un “minimal chiccoso”.

A CHROMATIC CHALLENGE

ampobasso is known for its many street artworks: Macs, Vesod, Made 514, Milu Correch, Blu, are just some of the artists who have contributed to creating an intriguing open-air gallery in the streets of the city of Molise. CONDOART® takes a different way instead, urban regeneration in the historic center, where a building renovation with a front on the street of 18 x 15 meters is imagined as a large canvas to paint. It is, therefore, not a question of intervening later on a wall but of integrating the artistic intervention into the design. "Why not replace the raw concrete of the facades of the buildings with real works of art in our city too?" says Vittorio Morelli, the entrepreneur who designed it "... a building that would itself represent an iconic work for the city that hosts it and for the guests who live in it". The idea is shared by the arch. Di Cristofano and Elio Cavone - artist of international value - who takes up the challenge "...I looked for changing colors and shapes, curves of materials that could interpret the rhythm and natural movement of the city. To bring passers-by towards a futuristic vision, to give vital energy to a monochromatic context, to give a boost to art". The glass curtain wall, a material chosen for its durability, is transformed into a flow of vertical brushstrokes of different blues and wavy white lines that interrupt the succession of the string courses of adjacent buildings, giving new vitality to the street. "At the same time, an entrance hall had to be designed to make everyone who entered the building perceive that they were entering the work of art. My idea, therefore, had two barycentres, one facing outwards that addressed the city and another facing whoever entered the CONDOART®," Morelli points out. It's "... a perfect idea to bring the light of art into the city and living spaces": this is the thought of Elio Cavone. Abandoning the regularity of the façade, he intervenes in the volume of the entrance hall. A play of broken lines extends from the floor to the walls. The artist's work is integrated and enhanced by the

architect with an interesting use of artificial lighting and a play of irregular mirrors on the ceiling that makes the passage from the entrance hall a totally immersive experience for the visitor. Cavone's intervention in the corridors involves some walls treated with an unfolding of signs, almost abstract graffiti left by the artist as a memory of his passage. Although with two slightly different concepts, ART BUILDING® in Milan has involved several artists in its realization (Home Italia n.20), while CONDOART® in Campobasso has seen only one artist at work. Both cases confirmed that the collaboration between enlightened entrepreneurs, designers, and artists brings added value not only to the single architecture but also to the context in which it is inserted, perhaps strongly as in Campobasso. On the other hand, "Art in urban contexts is irruption and transgression" reminds us Cavone.

Campobasso è nota per i numerosi interventi di street art: Macs, Vesod, Made 514, Milu Correch, Blu, sono solo alcuni degli artisti che hanno contribuito a creare un’interessante galleria a cielo aperto per le vie della città molisana. Una strada diversa viene invece percorsa da CONDOART®, rigenerazione urbana nel centro storico dove una ristrutturazione edilizia con un fronte sulla strada di 18 x 15 metri viene immaginata come una grande tela da dipingere. Non si tratta quindi di intervenire successivamente su una parete ma di integrare l’intervento artistico nella progettazione. "Perché non sostituire il crudo cemento delle facciate degli immobili con vere e proprie opere d’arte anche nella nostra città?” dice Vittorio Morelli l’imprenditore che l’ha pensata “… un edificio che rappresentasse esso stesso un’opera iconica per la città che lo ospita e per gli ospiti che lo abitano.” L’idea viene condivisa dall’arch. Di Cristofano e da Elio Cavone - artista di valore internazionale - che ne raccoglie la sfida: “…ho cercato cromatismi e forme cangianti, curve di materie che potessero interpretare il ritmo e il movimento naturale della città. Portare i passanti verso una visione futuristica, dare energia vitale a un contesto monocromatico, dare spinta all’arte.” La facciata continua in vetro, materiale scelto per la sua durabilità, si trasforma in un fluire di pennellate verticali di differenti toni di azzurro e ondulate linee bianche che interrompono il susseguirsi dei marcapiani degli edifici adiacenti, dando nuova vitalità alla via. “Al contempo si doveva progettare un androne d’ingresso all’immobile con l’obiettivo di far percepire, a chiunque entrasse nell’edificio, di entrare proprio nell’opera d’arte. La mia idea aveva quindi due baricentri, uno verso l’esterno che si rivolgeva alla città e un altro rivolto a chiunque fosse entrato nel CONDOART®.” precisa Morelli. Si tratta di “… un’idea perfetta per portare negli spazi cittadini e abitativi la luce dell’arte" è il pensiero di Elio Cavone che qui abbandona la regolarità della facciata ed interviene nel volume dell’androne

con un gioco di linee spezzate che estende dal pavimento alle pareti. L’opera dell’artista viene integrata ed esaltata dall’architetto con un interessante utilizzo dell’illuminazione artificiale e un gioco di specchi irregolari a soffitto che rende il passaggio dall’androne un’esperienza immersiva totale per il visitatore. L’intervento di Cavone nei corridoi coinvolge alcune pareti che vengono trattate con un dispiegarsi di segni, quasi dei graffiti astratti lasciati dall’artista come memoria del suo passaggio. Seppur con due concetti leggermente differenti, L’ART BUILDING® di Milano ha coinvolto diversi artisti nella sua realizzazione (Home Italia n.20) mentre il CONDOART® di Campobasso ha visto un solo artista all’opera, in entrambi i casi viene confermato che la collaborazione tra imprenditori illuminati, progettisti e artisti porta valore aggiunto non solo alla singola architettura ma anche al contesto in cui è inserita, magari in modo forte come a Campobasso; d’altronde “L’arte nei contesti urbani è irruzione e trasgressione.” ci ricorda Cavone.

ven during the lockdown, Home Italia never stopped its activities, continuing to be present with new editions of the magazine and new ideas with always positive thinking. To encourage a quick and safe return to normality, in collaboration with the Hangzhou Design Association, we donated 17,000 masks to the Architects' Associations of Milan and Florence that made them available to their visitors. A small gesture that starts from the desire to be always ready to face the challenges of the market, with the awareness of being a network that finds new ways to foster relations between the business world and the world of design in Italy and abroad.

patial solutions, a sophisticated mix of oriental culture and domestic high technology, fashion touches, and tributes to the past: it canâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t be said that the project realized in Tainan on the island of Taiwan by architect Chang Ching Ping is not strongly characteristic. We are talking about a large house of 1700 square meters designed to accommodate four families. Aiming at the beauty and other living standards, focusing on the combination of functional spaces and areas dedicated to pure aesthetic enjoyment and leisure time: the mission is clear, and to achieve it, the architect puts all his ability to exploit spaces unconventionally. In fact, how could we define the spectacular library that stands like a dome above the living spaces? Perhaps a symbol of the primacy of culture over other domestic functions? For sure, it is a very particular element that completes the elevation of the project developed in seven levels, all connected by a staircase that appears as a kind of the backbone of the house. Works of art everywhere, unique corners such as the large glass cellar that is also a decorative element. A spacious kitchen, where stands a refined teppanyaki cooking table that, together with the Zen garden towards the studio, reminds us that we are still in the East after all! The furniture and furnishings, most of which are design pieces of Italian production, end up being a quality complement to this ambitious volume where the very scanning of the spaces, even the private ones in the bedrooms, is fluid and carefully designed in every detail. The desire to carve out corners of privacy inside such an ambitious container is another of the main features of the project by architect Chang Ching Ping. He relies on a neutral chromatic choice, preferring to focus on the use of natural

and artificial lights to enhance the volumes and to create a sophisticated “gallery effect” where the works of art are arranged in a way designed not to interfere with the reading of the spaces. Even the presence of numerous fireplaces, of all shapes and sizes, responds not only to a need for thermal heat but, above all, to a need to create “physical” heat points capable of emphasizing, even more, an essential idea of home. There is a search for beauty and harmony that permeates every space, respecting

the concept conceived by the architect and his enlightened client. This idea of fusion between opposites, easy to enunciate but hard to render, has nothing trivial or obvious. The project has a “universal” personality and could be applied in any context without ever appearing out of place. Its Chinese soul is evident but ends up being an almost humanistic touch, capable of giving space that simple but intense serenity that is one of the great virtues of the East.

Soluzioni spaziali, un sofisticato mix di cultura orientale e alta tecnologia domestica, tocchi di moda e omaggi al passato: non si può certo dire che il progetto realizzato a Tainan sull’isola di Taiwan dall’architetto Chang Ching Ping non sia fortemente caratteristico. Stiamo parlando di un qualcosa di molto ambizioso come una grande casa di 1700 mq pensata per accogliere quattro famiglie. Mirare alla bellezza, agli alti standard abitativi, puntando sulla combinazione tra spazi funzionali e aree dedicate al puro godimento estetico e al tempo libero: la mission è chiara e per realizzarla l’architetto mette in gioco tutta la sua capacità di sfruttare gli spazi in modo non certo convenzionale. Come si potrebbe infatti definire la spettacolare

biblioteca che si erge come una cupola sopra gli spazi abitativi? Forse un simbolo del primato della cultura sulle altre funzioni domestiche? Certamente si tratta di un elemento molto particolare che completa l’elevazione di un edificio sviluppato su ben sette livelli, tutti collegati tra loro da una scala che appare come una specie di spina dorsale della casa. Ovunque opere d’arte, angoli speciali come la grande cantina vetrata che costituisce un elemento decorativo, una cucina spaziosa, dove si trova anche un raffinato tavolo per la cottura teppanyaki che, unitamente al giardinetto zen su cui si apre lo studio, ci fa ricordare che siamo pur sempre in Oriente! I mobili e gli arredi, in gran parte pezzi di design di produzione italiana, finiscono per essere un complemento di qualità per questo ambizioso volume dove la stessa scansione degli spazi, anche quelli privati delle camere da letto, è fluida e curata in ogni dettaglio. Voler ritagliare degli angoli di privacy all’interno di un contenitore così ambizioso è infatti un’altra delle caratteristiche portanti del progetto dell’architetto Chang Ching Ping che si

affida a una scelta cromatica neutra, preferendo puntare sull’uso delle luci, naturali ed artificiali, per esaltare i volumi, e per creare un sofisticato “effetto galleria” dove le opere d’arte sono disposte in modo studiato per non interferire nella lettura degli spazi. Anche la presenza di numerosi camini, di ogni forma e dimensione, risponde non solo a un bisogno di calore termico ma soprattutto a una necessità di creare punti di calore “fisico” in grado di enfatizzare ancor più un’essenziale idea sociale di casa. C’è una ricerca di bellezza e di armonia che pervade ogni spazio rispettando il concept studiato dall’architetto con il suo illuminato committente. Questa idea di fusione tra opposti, facile da enunciare ma difficile da rendere, non ha nulla di banale e di scontato. Per questo il progetto ha una sua personalità “universale” e potrebbe essere esportato in qualsiasi contesto senza mai apparire fuori posto. La sua anima cinese è evidente ma finisce per essere un tocco quasi umanistico, capace di dare allo spazio quella serenità semplice ma intensa che è una delle grandi virtù dell’Oriente.

COLORS AND LIGHT FOR A (CO)WORKING SPACE dARK STUDIO

oworking: one of the keywords for the projects of the near future. The fluidity of working relationships and the need to have temporary spaces to produce, meet, process, pushes more and more professionals to choose shared offices. Since it is still a young type of space organization, coworking allows designers to take new and innovative paths of hybridization between a more domestic look and the classic office. Starting from this assumption, it was truly exciting for the two young designers from dArk studio in Milan to transform a large, dark basement of about 450 square meters into a bright, comfortable, and flexible coworking in via Calco in Milan. This space, located in the basement of a building constructed in the two years 1954-56, is one of the architect Freyrie’s most known projects, (in this case in collaboration with the GPA Monti studio), a remarkable example of post-war Milanese architecture. “The theme around this project - explain the designers - is that of light cuts; a ceiling light channel guides the various rooms and performs the dual function of lighting and technical, allowing the distribution of light points. All the new internal dividers detach themselves from the existing masonry thanks to the use of sky-ground light cuts. This composition of LED strips represents the ideal framework for the whole space.” Even color, an element often absent in the tradi-

tional scanning of aseptic and impersonal workspaces, takes on a crucial function in dArk’s design, combining visual impact with a coherent design choice. “A mustard yellow box welcomes the visitor and divides the rooms,” explains dArk, “with the area with individual offices and meeting rooms on the right, and the social area with shared workstations and relaxation area on the left. In the lobby, there is also a reception, a small kitchen, sofas, and lockers for computers or documents”. Kitchen, seating, relaxation corners: the idea is to promptly create a friendly, domestic, and warm space. “Taking up the plan of the ground floor of Freyrie’s building and its common spaces - continue dArk - perspective cones were created in the basement. By rotation of the walls, they break away the monotony of the beam-pillar structure. The furnishings and all the glazed walls were consequently designed and custom made, except for the seats and workstations of the individual offices”. The bathrooms have been treated minimally through the use of enamel paint on all surfaces, color boxes. The result is a flexible space that can be adapted to use by individual professionals or workgroups, offering different types of workstations and seats. The use of lights and colors changes the perception of the rooms and makes a cold basement an intimate and welcoming, bright, functional workplace for a variety of work needs.

Coworking: una delle parole chiave per i progetti del prossimo futuro. La fluidità dei rapporti lavorativi e la necessità di avere spazi temporanei per produrre, incontrarsi, elaborare, spinge un numero sempre maggiore di professionisti a scegliere gli uffici condivisi. Trattandosi di una tipologia di organizzazione dello spazio ancora giovane il coworking permette ai progettisti di percorrere strade nuove e innovative di ibridazione tra un look più domestico e il classico office. Partendo da questa premessa è stato veramente emozionante, per i due giovani progettisti dello studio dArk di Milano trasformare un ampio e buio seminterrato di circa 450 mq in un coworking luminoso, confortevole e flessibile in via Calco a Milano. Lo spazio si trova infatti nel piano seminterrato di un edificio realizzato nel biennio 1954-56, uno dei progetti più noti dell’arch. Freyrie (in questo caso in collaborazione con lo studio GPA Monti), notevole esempio di architettura post-bellica milanese. “Il tema attorno al quale si sviluppa il progetto – spiegano i progettisti - è quello dei tagli di luce; un canale luminoso a soffitto guida nei vari ambienti e assolve la duplice funzione illuminante e tecnica, permettendo la distribuzione dei punti luce. Tutti i nuovi divisori interni si staccano dalla muratura esistente grazie all’utilizzo di tagli di luce cielo-terra. Questa composizione di strisce led rappresenta l’ossatura ideale di tutto lo spazio.”

Anche il colore, elemento spesso assente nella tradizionale scansione degli spazi lavorativi, asettici e impersonali, assume nel progetto di dArk una funzione determinante unendo l’impatto visivo a una coerente scelta progettuale. “Una scatola color giallo senape accoglie il visitatore e divide gli ambienti – spiegano i dArk- avendo a destra la zona con uffici singoli e sale riunione, a sinistra la parte social con postazioni condivise e area relax. Nella lobby si trovano anche la reception, una piccola cucina, dei divani e i locker per computer o documenti.“ Cucina, sedute, angoli relax: l’idea è infatti quella di creare subito un idea di spazio amichevole, domestico e caldo. “Riprendendo la planimetria del piano terra dell’edificio di Freyrie e dei suoi spazi comuni – continuano i dArk – sono stati creati nel seminterrato, tramite rotazione delle pareti, dei coni prospettici per staccarsi dalla monotonia della struttura travi-pilastri. L’arredo e tutte le pareti vetrate sono state di conseguenza disegnate e realizzate su misura, a eccezione delle sedute e delle postazioni operative degli uffici singoli”. I bagni sono stati trattati in maniera minimale tramite l’utilizzo di tinteggiatura a smalto su tutte le superfici, scatole di colore. Il risultato è uno spazio flessibile che può adattarsi all’utilizzo da parte di singoli professionisti o di gruppi di lavoro, offrendo diverse tipologie di postazioni e sedute; l’utilizzo delle luci e dei colori cambia la percezione degli ambienti e rende un freddo seminterrato un luogo di lavoro intimo e accogliente, luminoso, funzionale a svariate esigenze lavorative.

Arkstudio was founded in 2016 in Milan by the professional union of Marco Pietro Ricci and Cristian Russo. The studio’s main intent is to be a container of ideas that deals with architecture, design, and integrated design. Among the studio’s clients: Dyson, Liferay, MFL, Eni, Time2Work, Macropix. Marco Pietro Ricci, graduated in architecture at the Politecnico di Milano in 2006 and began collaborating with various realities in the world of design, as studio of the architect and designer Mario Bellini. In 2010 he began a creative path in the world of design, collaborating with some Italian brands (Vesta, Livellara, L.Boffi) for which he designs furniture, graphics, and fittings. Cristian Russo was born in Milan in 1975. In 2003 he was called to participate in the Venice Biennale to exhibit the project of his thesis on the urban redevelopment of the San Filippo Neri “ZEN” district of Palermo. In 2008 he joined Mario Bellini Architect(s) where he had the opportunity to deepen his knowledge with projects of international importance. At the same time, he works on personal projects ranging from the construction of villas and private apartments to the restyling of historic buildings to the design of offices and commercial activities.

Arkstudio nasce nel 2016 a Milano dall’unione professionale di Marco Pietro Ricci e Cristian Russo. Il principale intento dello studio è quello di essere un contenitore di idee che si occupa di architettura, design e progettazione integrata. Tra i clienti dello studio: Dyson, Liferay, MFL, Eni; Time2Work, Macropix Marco Pietro Ricci, nato Milano nel 1979, si laurea in architettura al Politecnico di Milano nel 2006 e inizia a collaborare con diverse realtà nel mondo della progettazione, tra cui lo studio dell’architetto e designer Mario Bellini. Nel 2010 inizia un percorso creativo nel mondo del design collaborando con alcuni marchi italiani (Vesta, Livellara, L.Boffi) per i quali disegna arredi, grafiche e allestimenti. Cristian Russo nasce a Milano nel 1975. Nel 2003 viene chiamato a partecipare alla Biennale di Venezia per esporre il progetto della sua tesi di laurea sulla riqualificazione urbanistica del quartiere San Filippo Neri “ZEN” di Palermo. Nel 2008 entra a far parte dello studio Mario Bellini Architect(s) dove ha modo di approfondire l’architettura contemporanea con progetti d’importanza internazionale. ingdao, a city on the coast of Shandong on the China Sea, is an exclusive location with a colonial past evidenced by the presence of numerous western-style buildings. It speaks an oriental language this villa, located within the Qingdao Bay Golf complex designed by architect Patrick Leung. From the windows of its rooms, the view sweeps over 1100 acres of the golf course and the gulf, offering a fusion of sea, warm sun, and serenity that pervades all rooms. The designer let himself be carried away by nature and light by rewriting spaces and taking inspiration from a simple Zen language of strongly oriental character. The choice of white as the guiding color for the structural parts provides a play of contrasts implemented with small graphic interventions, selections of art objects, touches of dark wood, and skillful insertion of visual citations taken from Chinese tradition. In this project, developed by Pal Design Group, the studio headed by architect Leung, the continuous reading of the spaces turned in a serene, soft, and welcoming way. There is a play of lines that alternates concise signs, luminous transparencies, always striving to offer a sense of profound poetry.

We often speak of redefining the concept of luxury by recovering stylistic and formal values and inserting it in a vision that always has at its core the well-being of those who live in the house. This search for new parameters for luxury is particularly strong in China, where designers have made significant efforts to merge their extraordinary aesthetic tradition with international visual and design standards. The â&#x20AC;&#x153;holisticâ&#x20AC;? approach to the project, which is one of the characteristic features of the PAL Group, is evident in every aspect of this villa: reassuring forms chasing

each other in the various rooms, soft colors, gentle and integrated lighting, references to nature, and its primary elements. Patrick Leung is a master at dosing these ingredients without forcing them and without ever wanting to give the impression of working according to a pre-established thesis. Everything proceeds in a fluid, spontaneous, and gentle way, accompanying the space in a practical but cultured way. And it is precisely in these details that the masterâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s experience appears.

[IT] Qingdao, città posta sulla costa dello Shandong sul mar della Cina, è una località esclusiva, con un passato coloniale testimoniato dalla presenza di numerosi edifici in stile occidentale. Parla decisamente un linguaggio orientale questa villa, che si trova all’interno del complesso del complesso Qingdao Bay Golf progettata dall’architetto Patrick Leung. Dalle finestre delle sue camere lo sguardo spazia sui 1100 acri di campo da golf e sul golfo, offrendo una fusione tra mare, sole caldo e serenità che pervade tutti gli ambienti. Il progettista si è lasciato trasportare dalla natura e dalla luce, riscrivendo gli spazi e ispirandosi a un semplice linguaggio zen di natura fortemente orientale. La scelta del bianco, come colore guida per le parti strutturali, permette un gioco di contrasti che si attua con piccoli interventi grafici, scelte di oggetti d’arte, tocchi di legno scuro e inserimento sapiente di citazioni visive prese dalla tradizione cinese. In questo progetto, sviluppato da Pal Design Group, lo studio che fa capo all’architetto Leung, la lettura continua degli spazi, viene trasformata in modo sereno, morbido e accogliente. C’è un gioco di linee che alterna segni concisi e 78

luminose trasparenze, sforzandosi sempre di offrire un senso di profonda poesia. Si parla spesso di ridefinire il concetto di lusso recuperando dei valori stilistici e formali e inserendolo in una visione che abbia sempre al centro il benessere di chi vive la casa. Questa ricerca di nuovi parametri per il luxury è particolarmente forte in Cina dove i designer hanno compiuto sforzi importanti per fondere la propria straordinaria tradizione estetica con gli standard visivi e progettuali internazionali. L’approccio “olistico” al progetto, che è una delle cifre caratteristiche di PAL Design Group, è evidente in ogni aspetto di questa villa: forme rassicuranti che si rincorrono nei vari ambienti, cromie morbide, illuminazione gentile e integrata, richiami alla natura e ai suoi elementi primari. Patrick Leung ha la grande capacità di dosare questi ingredienti senza mai forzarne i legami e soprattutto senza mai voler dare l’impressione di lavorare seguendo una tesi precostituita. Tutto procede in modo fluido, spontaneo e gentile accompagnando lo spazio in modo funzionale ma colto ed è proprio in questi dettagli che si legge l’esperienza di un maestro.

three-level living unit in the surroundings of the baroque town of Noto, Sicily. A refined interior intervention accomplished by Salvatore Spataro, a local architect based in Florence, which involved the functional redistribution of the villa in a subtraction perspective rather than addition. An operation that has made space more fluid, contemporary free to accommodate elements resulting from the synergetic collaboration between architect, client, and local craftsmen. The heart of the entire re-reading project is the living area: a bright open space, a white environment, enriched by the large opening onto the garden, where minimalism meets industrial aesthetics. Not only chromatically, where the neutrality of the finishes in the cool tones of optical white and graphite grey is in contrast with the bright green of the vegetation, but also materially, thanks to the meeting between textured coverings, exposed concrete elements, and smooth surfaces. A long wall in white lacquered mdf is decorated with a geometric pattern, creating a continuum between the dining and living areas. The large kitchen island, on the other hand, looks like a pure volume that decisively dialogues with space, a graphic sign accentuated by the elegant suspension lighting. On the second level, a studio where the bookcase has been custom-designed to recreate a micro-environment of relaxation, surrounded by the warmth of books and design accessories. A box in a box. On the last level, finally, the sleeping area and the walk-in closet, made of walnut wood with integrated LEDs. A house completely rethought in a contemporary key, between minimalism and baroque taste, in homage to its land and tradition.

[IT] Una scatola per l’abitare, articolata su tre livelli, nei dintorni della città barocca di Noto, in Sicilia.Un raffinato intervento di interior portato a termine da Salvatore Spataro, architetto locale con base a Firenze, che ha comportato la ridistribuzione funzionale della villa in un’ottica di sottrazione, più che d’addizione. Operazione che ha reso lo spazio più fluido, contemporaneo, libero di accogliere elementi nati dalla collaborazione sinergica tra architetto, committenza e artigiani locali. Cuore dell’intero progetto di rilettura, la zona giorno: un luminoso open space, un ambiente bianco, arricchito dalla grande apertura sul giardino, in cui il minimalismo incontra l’estetica industriale. Non solo cromaticamente, dove la neutralità delle finiture nei toni freddi del bianco ottico e del grigio grafite è in contrasto con il verde brillante della vegetazione, ma anche matericamente, grazie

all’incontro tra rivestimenti che si fanno texture, elementi in cemento a vista e superfici lisce. Una lunga parete in mdf laccato bianco è decorata con un pattern a motivo geometrico, creando un continuum tra la zona pranzo e quella living. La grande cucina a isola, invece, si presenta come un volume puro che dialoga con lo spazio in maniera decisa, un segno grafico accentuato dalla scenica illuminazione a sospensione. Al secondo livello, uno studio in cui la libreria è stata progettata su misura con l’intento di ricreare un microambiente di relax, circondato dal calore di libri e complementi di design. Una scatola nella scatola. All’ultimo livello, infine, la zona notte e la cabina armadio, realizzata in legno di noce con led integrati. Una casa completamente ripensata in chiave contemporanea, tra minimalismo e sapore barocco, in omaggio alla propria terra e alla tradizione.

Salvatore Spataro

raduated with honors from the Faculty of Architecture in Florence, after a short experience in a small studio, he collaborated from 2008 to 2016 with Pierattelli Architetture Srl in Florence, dealing mainly with the design of hotels and private residences. With the publishing house LetteraVentidue, he published the book “What’s up- 15 young European architects” and “ NEEDS-Architectures in developing countries” catalog of the homonymous traveling exhibition inaugurated in Florence in 2011. In 2014 he presented his first Design collection “Design Meets Sicily” a self-produced line created to reinterpret - in a new way - elements and characters of Sicilian culture and tradition. In 2015, the BaroqEAT line is nominated for the International Compasso D’Oro in the Design for Food and Local heritage category. In 2016 he is among the selected Under 35 to participate in the XXI International Exhibition of the Triennale di Milano and started his collaboration as a consultant for the company Linoleum Gomma Zanaga Srl, where since 2019 he has been the Artistic Director of the brand Le Porcellane | Florence 1948. Currently, the work in progress concerns the world of interior design (both residential and non-residential), and product design.

The Schwimmhuette on Lake Fie' is a perfect combination of architecture and nature.

long the shores of the fairytale Lake Fiè in the province of Bolzano, hidden among the alpine panoramas of the South Tyrol, there is a unique building, so well integrated into the surrounding nature that it is almost hard to spot it at first glance. This is the Schwimmhütte, a hut on the lake, built by noa* network of architecture for the municipality of Fiè to replace the former tourist kiosk. It is immediately noticeable that the design of the Lake House Völs was designed down to the smallest detail to offer a structure that was both functional and aesthetically admirable. The result is a small complex consisting of two buildings, connected but with their independent destination. The main building, with its traditional mountain roof, houses the refreshment area, with internal self-service and drinks counter. It then continues with an open loggia and a terrace overlooking the lake, while to the side, connected both architecturally and conceptually, stands the second structure, this one for public use. Inside there are toilet facilities, changing rooms and lockers, connected by a central axis open to the outside. The whole is harmonious in itself and with the context that hosts it. Visually there is no impact. The eye ranges from the fir trees to the crystal clear waters to the Lake House without interruption, with smoothness. Lake Fiè is a popular tourist destination both in summer and winter, for an incredible number of outdoor activities, from swimming to ice skating. Thanks to this requalification, it is now also a place to appreciate for lovers of well thought out and well-integrated architectures, a place where the concept of “looking around” acquires an even wider and more complete meaning.

[IT] Presso le rive del fiabesco lago di Fiè in provincia di Bolzano, nascosto tra i panorami alpini dell’Alto Adige, si trova un edificio speciale, così ben integrato nella natura circostante che è quasi difficile scorgerlo a un primo sguardo. Si tratta della Schwimmhütte, capanna sul lago, realizzata da noa* network of architecture per il comune di Fiè, in sostituzione dell’ormai dismesso chiosco turistico. Si intuisce subito che il progetto della Lake House Völs è stato pensato fin nei minimi dettagli per offrire una struttura che fosse sia funzionale che esteticamente ammirabile. Il risultato infatti è un piccolo complesso composto da due edifici, collegati tra loro ma dalla destinazione indipendente. L’edificio principale, dalla forma cubica e dalla classica ispirazione montana con tetto spiovente, ospita la zona ristoro, con self- service interno e bancone per le bevande. Si prosegue poi con una loggia aperta e una terrazza vista lago da dove è possibile ammirare anche la nuova zona balneare, mentre a lato, connessa sia architettonicamente che concettualmente, sorge la seconda struttura, anche questa a uso pubblico. Al suo interno si trovano i servizi igienici, gli spogliatoi e gli armadietti, collegati da un asse centrale aperto verso l’esterno, quasi uno scorcio di natura senza interruzioni. Tutto l’insieme risulta armonico sia nel rapporto interno tra gli spazi sia con il contesto che lo ospita. Visivamente non c’è impatto, l’occhio spazia dagli abeti alle acque cristalline e alla Lake House senza interruzioni, con dolcezza. Il lago di Fiè è una meta turistica molto frequentata sia in estate che in inverno, per un incredibile numero di attività all’aperto, dal nuoto al pattinaggio sul ghiaccio. Grazie a questo intervento di riqualificazione è ora anche un luogo da apprezzare per gli amanti delle architetture ben pensate e ben integrate. Un luogo dove il concetto di “guardarsi intorno” acquista un significato ancor più ampio e completo.

he founders of noa* network of architecture, Lukas Rungger and Stefan Rier, met, while working as project architects with the renowned architect and designer Matteo Thun in Milan, being responsible for a series of challenging projects in the field of tourism, modern living and contemporary workplaces. Before joining forces to found noa* back home in Bozen/ Bolzano in 2010, both Lukas and Stefan improved their skills and fine-tuned their work-ethos during a decade of work experiences both locally and abroad. From many years of working in New York, London, Berlin, Milan, Ferrara and Graz, they gained in depth cultural and social insight, which until present, remains a crucial influence and input in their designs. In 2018 noa* has expanded even further, founding their second office in Berlin.

ocated in the central area of the Xuhui district in Shanghai, everyone who comes here for the first time is surprised that such a magical garden is at Xiao’s Design headquarters. I gave it a special name: “Garden of Cicadas”. As the poem of the Tang Dynasty says: “The forest is quieter while the cicadas chirp; the mountain is more secluded while the birds sing. It is rare to find such a quiet and peaceful place in the city center. It took me more than a decade to plant all kinds of trees. Today it looks like a forest where you can appreciate the scenery of the different seasons because all the space in the garden has been wisely used. That’s why guests who come here like to stay in the courtyard to chat but also for meetings. About ten years ago, when I thought about the Xiao Design project, I was sure I had made the most of the usable space, but today, due to the changing times, I realized that people’s behaviors are very different than in the past. If initially, only two meeting rooms were needed, now they have become four, and even our very casual way of approaching the client has become more formal. So a service room has become a tea house, and another space has been integrated into a reception room to shorten service routes and improve work efficiency. The Chinese are inevitably obsessed with the old things of their country, which is why I combined the tea house with the bamboo forest by placing objects of different styles around it. Antiques and naturalistic or Chinese elements merge into a space with zen characteristics. One element worth mentioning is the black steel staircase that you can see once you enter the reception area. The spiral staircase rests on a “drop” of black ink, called “the origin” because, for me, it has just the meaning to look for the beginning and return to the origin, which can be our expectation and our desire. As we get older, our life goals go further and further, but we also end up losing sight of our destination, losing ourselves, losing our original ideal. This is why it is necessary to remember it with small signs now and then. What is most important in a project is always the actual functionality: in fact, this scale is not designed to be beautiful, certainly not for fashion, but to circulate air. The wire mesh structure is useful to provide the second floor of the offices with better ventilation and airflow. The best design should always combine the beautiful with the practical. This is its real purpose: to make every space interactive and independent. In the digital age, communication between people also needs more “faceto-face” opportunities. Every space has unlimited possibilities, and only designers can create them.

Trovandosi nella zona centrale del quartiere Xuhui a Shanghai, tutti coloro che vengono qui per la prima volta sono sorpresi che la sede di Xiao’s Design abbia un giardino così magico. Gli ho dato un nome particolare: “Giardino delle Cicale”. Come recita una poesia della dinastia Tang: “La foresta è più tranquilla mentre le cicale cinguettano; la montagna è più appartata mentre gli uccelli cantano”. È raro trovare un posto così tranquillo e silenzioso in un centro città. Mi ci è voluto più di un decennio per piantare tutti i tipi di alberi. Oggi sembra una foresta dove apprezzare lo scenario delle diverse stagioni perché tutto lo spazio del giardino è stato sapientemente utilizzato. Per questo agli ospiti che vengono qui piace stare in cortile per chiacchierare ma anche per le riunioni. Una decina di anni fa, quando ho pensato il progetto di Xiao Design, ero certo di aver sfruttato al massimo lo spazio utilizzabile ma oggi, a causa del cambiamento dei tempi, mi sono accorto che i comportamenti delle persone sono molto diversi rispetto al passato. Se in origine erano necessari solo due sale di riunione, ora sono diventate quattro e anche il nostro modo molto casuale di approcciare il cliente si è trasformato in modo più formale. Così una stanza di servizio è diventata una casa da tè, e un altro spazio è stato integrato in una sala di ricevimento per accorciare i percorsi di servizio e migliorare l’efficienza del lavoro. I cinesi sono inevitabilmente ossessionati dalle vecchie cose del loro paese: per

questo ho combinato la casa da tè con la foresta di bambù collocando intorno oggetti di stili diversi. Oggetti d’antiquariato e elementi naturalistici o cinesi si fondono in uno spazio dalle caratteristiche zen. Un elemento che vale la pena menzionare è la scala in acciaio nero che si vede una volta entrati nello spazio di ricevimento. La scala a chiocciola poggia su una “goccia” di inchiostro nero, che può essere chiamata “l’origine” perché per me ha proprio il significato di cercare l’inizio, ritornare all’origine, che può essere la nostra aspettativa e il nostro desiderio. Man mano che avanziamo nell’età, gli obiettivi di vita si spingono sempre più lontano, ma finiamo anche per perdere di vista la nostra destinazione, perdere noi stessi, perdere il nostro ideale originale; per questo mi pare necessario ogni tanto ricordarlo con piccoli segni. Ciò che è importante in un progetto è sempre e comunque la sua effettiva funzionalità: questa scala infatti non è stata pensata per essere solo bella, non certo per moda, ma per far circolare l’aria. La struttura in rete metallica è utile per fornire una migliore ventilazione e un migliore flusso d’aria al secondo piano degli uffici. Il miglior design dovrebbe sempre unire il bello con l’attenzione al pratico. Questo è il suo vero scopo: rendere ogni spazio interattivo e indipendente. Nell’era digitale, la comunicazione tra le persone ha bisogno anche di più opportunità “faccia a faccia”. Ogni spazio ha possibilità illimitate e solo i designer le possono creare.

hen observing this house, the feeling is to face with infinite possibilities, a blank canvas on which to paint the memories of a life, with which to enhance the individual pieces of furniture, in which to feel at home. In this apartment in the center of Salerno, you can breathe all the history of the family living there, and, at the same time, all the past of the building itself. It is, in fact, a 17th-century palazzo, once destined to house a convent, the context in which the Proj1 studio of Cristiano Cataneo and Clelia Campobasso was able to implement a redevelopment project that would enhance both its aesthetics and functionality. The structural limits have become possibilities, the pieces of furniture existing, with their styles and taste of the past, have become starting points to articulate an experience. An experience that not only

becomes an integral part of domestic and family life but transforms the individual rooms into an almost museum-like itinerary where you can get lost between centuries and countries. The memories of travel and the recovered furniture, however, are flanked by contemporary design elements, cleverly placed in the rooms to maintain that sense of heterogeneity and homogeneity that is tangible proof of the care taken during the design phase. The wood, left natural or covered in white, provides warmth and softness to a house with a modern framework that only increases its charm. The impressive spiral staircase traces a clear but harmonious graphic sign among the white rooms, as if it were a comma between the ground floor and the upper one, a connection not only architectural but also conceptual.

[IT] Osservando questa abitazione, la sensazione è quella di essere davanti a infinite possibilità, a una tela bianca su cui dipingere i ricordi di una vita, con cui valorizzare i singoli pezzi d’arredo, in cui sentirsi a casa. In questo appartamento nel centro di Salerno si respira tutta la storia della famiglia che vi abita, e, allo stesso tempo, tutto il passato dell’edificio stesso. E’ infatti un palazzo del XVII secolo, una volta destinato a ospitare un convento, il contesto in cui lo studio Proj1 di Cristiano Cataneo e Clelia Campobasso ha saputo attuare un intervento di riqualificazione che ne valorizzasse sia l’estetica sia la funzionalità. I limiti strutturali sono diventati possibilità e i pezzi d’arredo già presenti, con i loro stili e il loro gusto d’antan, sono diventati punti di partenza intorno ai quali articolare un’esperienza. Esperienza che non solo diventa parte integrante della vita domestica e

famigliare, ma trasforma i singoli ambienti in un percorso quasi museale dove perdersi tra i secoli e i Paesi visitati. Ai ricordi di viaggio e ai mobili di recupero si affiancano però elementi di design contemporanei, sapientemente collocati nelle stanze per mantenere quel senso di eterogeneità e omogeneità che è prova tangibile della cura adottata in fase di progettazione. Un’intenzione che è evidente anche nella scelta delle carte da parati e dei materiali. Il legno, lasciato naturale o coperto sempre di bianco come tutte le pareti, regala a una casa dall’ossatura moderna, un calore e una morbidezza che non fanno che aumentarne il fascino. L’importante scala a chiocciola, inoltre, traccia un segno grafico netto ma armonico tra gli ambienti bianchi, come fosse una virgola tra il piano terreno e quello superiore, un collegamento non solo architettonico ma anche concettuale.

P1 Proj 1

roj1 was born in 2000 from an idea of Cristiano Cataneo and Clelia Campobassodi to give life to an architecture laboratory where to let new ideas flow and to experiment in full freedom new ways, often provoking with particular elements. The transformation of the spaces is realized through the studied use of the element light, looking for a focal point in every environment. After all, the passion for light animates the style of Cristiano and Clelia: for them, every element must be as created, caressed, and made unique by lights, both natural and artificial. Proj1’s activity has developed mainly in the field of interior design, combining, in harmony and continuity, objects and furnishing elements of the present and the past. The experience gained in the retail world - taking care especially of the display and enhancement of objects - is reported in interior design, where the canons of architecture are exploited, ensuring that, in space, empty and full spaces enhance each other. The attention paid to high-tech materials does not exclude the creative use of natural and even recycled materials. Cristiano Cataneo also deals with concept spaces for national and international events such as Cosmofarma, Arab Health, Euro Shop, and bio-building as a bio-building technician A.N.A.B. (National Association of Bio-ecological Architecture).

r oj1 nasce nel 2000 dall’idea di Cristiano Cataneo e Clelia Campobasso di dare vita a un laboratorio di architettura dove lasciar fluire nuove idee e sperimentare in piena libertà nuove strade, spesso provocando con elementi particolari. La trasformazione degli spazi viene realizzata attraverso l’uso studiato dell’elemento luce, cercando e scoprendo in ogni ambiente un focal point. Del resto, la passione per la luce anima lo stile di Cristiano e di Clelia: per loro ogni elemento deve essere come creato, accarezzato e reso unico dalla luce, sia naturale che artificiale. L’attività di Proj1 si è sviluppata prevalentemente nell’ambito dell’interior design, accostando, in armonia e continuità, oggetti ed elementi di arredo del presente e del passato. L’esperienza maturata nel mondo del retail – curando soprattutto l’esposizione e la valorizzazione degli oggetti – viene riportata nell’interior design, dove vengono sfruttati i canoni dell’architettura, facendo sì che, nello spazio, vuoti e pieni si valorizzino a vicenda. L’attenzione rivolta a materiali di alta tecnologia non esclude l’utilizzo creativo di materiali naturali e persino di recupero. Cristiano Cataneo si occupa inoltre di concept spaces per eventi nazionali ed internazionali come Cosmofarma, Arab Health, Euro Shop e di bioedlizia in qualità di tecnico bioedile A.N.A.B. (Associazione Nazionale Architettura Bioecologica ).

esigning architecture in harmony with nature and the spirit of the place is not a matter of size: this is demonstrated by the imposing building of the Lefay Resort & SPA Dolomiti. A mixed-use complex - residential and receptive recently opened in Pinzolo, near Madonna di Campiglio. Gently nestled in a conifer forest, Lefay Resort is built with local materials of the area - above all wood and stone - and recalls on a large scale the traditional sloping roofs of high altitude chalets. The contemporary touch is provided by the fully glazed facade facing the valley, which lightens the whole and reflects the surrounding landscape. The interiors, designed by Studio Alberto Apostoli, are a clever mix of contemporary luxury, tailoring solutions, and attention to environmental sustainability. Of the total nine floors, four are occupied by 23 private residences, while the remaining five accommodate the hotelâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s 88 suites. Both types feature similar solutions, such as maximum integration between the bed and bathroom areas, separated only by a movable partition wall in wooden slats, and the use of oak paneling and brass details. The common areas include a large lounge with conversation areas, a reading room, an outdoor sky lounge, several shops, two restaurants, and a large spa of over 5,000 square meters. The wellness area is the very heart of Lefay Resort, in continuous dialogue with the Dolomite landscape thanks to the large openings that connect indoor and outdoor and the great in&out swimming pool. The use of high-quality finishes ensures the exclusivity of the rooms: natural oak parquet flooring, light-colored leather upholstery, and natural granite stone, ivory or dark-colored stone walls define the wellness areas and the energy-therapeutic paths.

[IT] Progettare un’architettura in armonia con la natura e con lo spirito del luogo non è una questione di dimensioni: lo dimostra l’imponente edificio del Lefay Resort & SPA Dolomiti, struttura a destinazione mista - residenziale e ricettiva – recentemente inaugurata a Pinzolo, vicino a Madonna di Campiglio. Immerso in una foresta di conifere, Lefay Resort è costruito con materiali tipici dell’area – su tutti il legno e la pietra – e riprende i tradizionali tetti a spiovente degli chalet ad alta quota. Il tocco contemporaneo è dato dalla facciata completamente vetrata in direzione della valle, in grado di alleggerire l’insieme e riflettere il paesaggio circostante. lberto Apostoli is considered one of the most renowned architects and designers in “Wellness” on an international level. He has also developed significant experience in the design of hotels, shops, offices, residences, products, multifunctional buildings, urban planning. Born in Verona in 1968, he obtained a diploma in industrial electronics, and in 1993 he graduated in architecture in Venice with a dissertation in Economics. In 1997 he founded his studio, characterized by a multifaceted and multidisciplinary professional vocation, a natural consequence of his path. In over twenty years of activity, Studio Apostoli has carried out over 1000 projects, including hotels, offices, wellness centers, shops, residential complexes, and villas, dealing both with the architectural envelope and the engineering part, as well as the design of the interior spaces. Alberto Apostoli has worked and communicated his knowledge, through conferences and teaching activities, in some of the most valued markets of the world, such as the United States, Europe, Russia, the Middle East, and China.

o create a house that follows the natural rhythms, flexible, simple, and reassuring. This was the mission that the young architect En Chang, together with his team (Heng Jiao, Ya Cen Zou, and Si Yu Chen), had received from the client. This mission remained very clear in his mind when he started designing this 400 square meter space in the Hebin Garden Ren Hengyunjie Real Estate in Shanghai. “In the frenetic rhythms and complicated relationships within our cities,” says Zi Xi, who guides us in the discovery of the project, “life often ends up being torn to pieces. So it happens that sometimes we end up forgetting our real needs even when we think of suitable spaces to live. There is a kind of conflict in us that leads us to be clear and to desire ideal solutions but also not having the courage to develop them fully”. The idea of living is therefore transformed into an object of desire, involving the emotional and sensorial world of the client. It is not easy for someone who is not a professional to synthesize an idea of space, make it concrete, and evaluate it in its most complex aspects. “When eager to get rid of the vulgar carnival - continues Zi Xi - the rational and re-strained force in human

nature overcomes all the sense of form, seeks the precipitation brought by simplicity, and feels the internal order and delicate sense of balance. But it is not easy to synthesize them into an idea and even less to transfer them to a designer”. In this project, “the whole space tends to be restrained, simplified, and return to the real needs of the residents.” says Zi Xi. So clean lines and a strong sense of order permeate every corner of the house. The tones of grey and black create a high-level sense of space, with a simple and bright rhythm. Everything is very sharp, defined, but at the same time open to decorative and emotional ramblings. Throughout the house, there is a rule of fluidity that blends rigor and emotion in different spaces. Everywhere it is the color of the wood that brings its natural warmth to the space that lives on an alternation of black and white. In this scenario, the whole family presents its unique temperament in a free and not dull way, recovering that balance and serenity that had been the two fundamental watchwords of the project and that the architect En Chang has managed to transform into a con-crete, fluid, simple, and natural space.

Creare un una casa che assecondi i ritmi naturali, che sia flessibile, semplice e rassicurante: questa la mission che il giovane architetto En Chang, insieme con il suo team (Heng Jiao, Ya Cen Zou e Si Yu Chen), aveva ricevuto dal committente e che è rimasta ben chiara nella sua mente quando ha iniziato a progettare questo spazio di 400 metri quadri nel Hebin Garden Ren Hengyunjie Real Estate a Shanghai. “Nei ritmi frenetici e nelle relazioni complicate che regolano i rapporti all’interno delle nostre città - dice Zi Xi che ci fa da guida alla scoperta del progetto - la vita spesso finisce per essere fatta a pezzi. Succede così che talvolta finiamo per dimenticarci delle nostre reali necessità anche quando pensiamo a degli spazi per vivere. Si svolge in noi una specie di conflitto che ci porta ad avere ben chiare e a desiderare le soluzioni ideali ma anche a non avere il coraggio di svilupparle pienamente.” L’ideale abitativo si trasforma quindi in una specie di oggetto del desiderio che coinvolge la sfera emotiva e quella sensoriale del committente. Non è facile per chi non sia un professionista sintetizzare un’idea di spazio, renderla concreta e valutarla nei suoi aspetti più complessi. “Quando ci si vuole liberare dal volgare carnevale che è spesso la vita che ci circonda - continua Zi Xi - può accadere che quella forza razionale e spesso tratte-

nuta che è propria della natura umana provi per una volta a superare i limiti e le convenzioni imposti dalle forme dominanti e cerchi di recuperare valori più alti. Ma poi non è facile sintetizzarli in un’idea e ancor meno trasferirli ad un progettista”. Succede così di provare il desiderio di lasciarsi trasportare dalla semplicità, di ritrovare un proprio ordine interno e un delicato senso dell’equilibrio e di visualizzarlo in uno spazio virtuale. In questo progetto “tutto lo spazio tende ad essere contenuto, semplificato, per ritornare ad assecondare le reali esigenze dei residenti.” ci dice Zi Xi. Ecco allora che linee pulite e un forte senso di ordine pervadono ogni angolo della casa. I toni del grigio e del nero definiscono un senso spaziale molto particolare, basato su un ritmo semplice e luminoso. Tutto è molto nitido, definito, ma al tempo stesso aperto a divagazioni decorative ed emotive. Vige in tutta la casa la regola della fluidità che fonde nei diversi spazi rigore ed emozioni. Ovunque è il colore del legno a portare il proprio calore naturale allo spazio che vive su un’alternanza di bianco e nero. In questo contesto la famiglia riesce a vivere in modo libero e non monotono lo spazio progettato, recuperando quell’equilibrio e quella la serenità che erano state le due parole d’ordine alla base del progetto e che l’architetto En Chang è riuscito a trasformare in uno spazio concreto, fluido, semplice e naturale.

n Chang is one of the most interesting designers of the new generation in China. His activity has developed over the last ten years. From 2010 to 2018, he was the design director of Voglass+ De Group. His design philosophy is based on the analysis of the rules of private life, the integration between innovation and tradition, the constant exploration of the relationships between space, furniture, and people. The primary aim is to create a particular art of living and emotional experience based on a constant deepening of the concept of living and the needs connected to it.

here is a strong sense of balance between the rooms of this spacious house in Lugano, the heart of Swiss Italian. Refinement and flair, simplicity and decoration, light and dark, blend with a balance in the choice of furnishings and finishes. Relying on the client’s indications, Daniela Nori has created a real domestic nest, dedicated to a woman entrepreneur always traveling the world. On the ground floor, the spaces revolve around the passions and needs of the hostess: a wide and bright kitchen, with large windows, and a reception area where to welcome friends or relax after dinner. From the dining room to the living room, Nori’s stylistic research is tangible and, from the mix of grey touches to the selection of textures, manages to give a sense of continuity to the rooms. But it is by going upstairs that the perfect harmony between the client’s requests and the designer’s taste is enhanced. All the rooms are a tangible representation of a specific stylistic choice where the minimal elegance of the forms tells its story without veils. As in the case of the large canopy bed that dominates the master bedroom, and the solutions created ad hoc with restored pieces and custom-made furniture. Even in this case, it is the grey that creates a sense of cleanliness and rigor, very glamorous and always trendy, while black and white accentuate the contrast in the rooms, illuminating and embellishing them. An eclectic and modern house that immediately strikes and conquers with its details, its original wallpapers and “market” mirrors, its geometric lines, and the sense of warmth and intimacy that it releases.

[IT] Si respira un forte senso di bilanciamento tra le stanze di questa spaziosa casa di Lugano, centro nevralgico della Svizzera italiana. Raffinatezza ed estro, semplicità e decoro, chiari e scuri, si amalgamano con equilibrio nelle scelte d’arredo e nelle finiture. Affidandosi alle indicazioni della committente, Daniela Nori ha realizzato un vero nido domestico, dedicato a una donna imprenditrice sempre in viaggio per il mondo. Al pian terreno gli spazi ruotano intorno alle passioni e alle esigenze della padrona di casa. Un’ampia e luminosa cucina dalle grandi vetrate e una zona ricevimento dove accogliere gli amici o rilassarsi dopo cena. Dal dining al living, è tangibile la ricerca stilistica di Daniela Nori che, dalla mescolanza di punte di grigio alla selezione delle texture, riesce a dare un senso di continuità agli ambienti. Ma è salendo al piano superiore che maggiormente viene esaltata la perfetta armonia tra richieste della committenza e gusto della designer. Tutte le stanze sono rappresentazione tangibile di una specifica scelta stilistica dove sono l’eleganza minimal delle forme, come nel caso del grande letto baldacchino che domina la camera padronale, e le soluzioni create ad hoc con pezzi di recupero e mobili su misura, a raccontarsi senza veli. Anche in questo caso è il grigio a creare un senso di pulizia e rigore, molto glamour e sempre di tendenza; mentre al nero e al bianco viene lasciato il compito di accentuare il contrasto nelle stanze, illuminandole e impreziosendole. Una casa eclettica e moderna che colpisce subito e conquista con i dettagli, con le carte da parati originali e con gli specchi “ da mercatino”, con le linee geometriche e con il senso di calore e intimità che sprigiona.

A BRAND NEW LIFE FROM INDUSTRIAL ARCHAEOLOGY TO MODERN REDEVELOPMENT, THE NEW ANGELINI HEADQUARTERS IN ROME IS NOW IN OPERATION. THANKS TO THE SCHÜCO SYSTEMS, AND THE VERSATILITY OF A MATERIAL SUCH AS ALUMINIUM, THE FORMAL MEMORY OF THE BUILDING REMAINED INTACT

he project for the refurbishment of Angelini's Headquarters in the Appio Tuscolano district in Rome, assigned to Studio Transit, involved the adaptation and renovation of the Group's original headquarters through a demolition and reconstruction project. The Studio's approach to the design was organic and conservative and pursued the client's desire to maintain a bond with the city. It is a fluid architecture, featuring a characteristic "ribbon" shape, with experimental forms that are enhanced by an optimal aesthetic effect of the external facades, obtained through the use of Schüco aluminum systems. Three façade systems dialoguing with each other and providing a uniform, visually striking structural appearance: Schüco FWS 50 mullion and transom - in the roof areas of the building - Schüco USC 65 SG frames and the Schüco SFC 85 structural system. A great deal of attention focused on the use of greenery, with the creation of vertical green walls and the presence of tall trees. The modernization resulted in the realization of four separate blocks, divided by approximately ten-meter passages, where private green areas have been included. In doing so, ventilation and natural light have been increased in the workspaces, the private space of the inner courtyard has been visually connected with the public area of the city, and the functional autonomy of the individual parts of the building has been granted.

ccording to SICIS' vision, the house is no longer just a place to take a break from hectic outdoor life, but also a stage for significant moments in everyday life. A protected space, designed and built to be welcoming and reassuring; a set of environments that give a sense of stability and well-being; a context suitable for social and family life. In this project, entirely managed by SICIS, the atmosphere is a combination of tradition, elegance, and comfort. In the living room, it is the details that make the difference, from the mosaic on the ceiling to the seventies references of the furnishing lines. Alongside these is the choice of materials, fundamental for reaching a result of the highest level. The quality and guarantees offered by Italian craftsmanship are the real protagonists of the environment, where they stand out without imposing themselves, with elegance and consistency. Fabrics, marble, decorations, and glass are chosen and combined tastefully, with the evident intention of creating a single aesthetic and conceptual thread that would satisfy the spirit of the company: the home as a concrete space to live with lightness and style.

green space, in continuous evolution, in the center of Copenhagen, is also a new concept of smart development that suggests, among many things, an innovative type of urban planning. The Copenhagen Islands are part of a splendid non-profit initiative, initiated by Australian architect Marshall Blecher and Magnus Maarbjerg of the Danish studio 'Fokstrot', which aims to reintroduce wilderness - and creativity - into a rapidly gentrifying harbour. Endemic plants, green grass, and anchorage points provide an optimal habitat for birds, insects, seaweed, fish, and mollusks. A highly flexible, climate-resilient solution made entirely from sustainable and recycled materials. The prototype island, 'CPH-Ø1' was launched in 2018 and has become a popular feature in the harbour, moving from place to place, hosting part of a photo exhibition, a series of conferences, and many picnics by the sea. The islands will move seasonally between the underutilized and newly developed parts of the harbour, catalyzing life and activity.

CASSINA - Cassina's outdoor living room collection is sure to impress. The protagonist is the sofa Sail Out, designed by Rodolfo Dordoni and inspired by the spirit of the 1950s. Extremely comfortable, the modular sofa is reminiscent of the soft shape of canvas airbeds thanks to the individual padded bands inserted in pockets bordered by the seams of the upholstery.

OPUS - Zaha Hadid Architects left its mark in Dubai with the futuristic Opus, inaugurated a few months ago a few steps away from Burj Kalifa. The building consists of two towers, separated by a void in the middle. They are joined at the base by a four-story atrium and at the top by an asymmetrical bridge, suspended 71 meters above the ground. Inside, characterized by fluid forms typical of the Hadid style, there are offices, bars, international restaurants, and a hotel of the MeliĂ group.

FARO DI BRUCOLI - The historical memory of the Brucoli Lighthouse has returned to shine thanks to the Valore Paese - Dimore program of the Agenzia del Demanio. Located in the Sicilian seaside village in the province of Syracuse, the building dating back to 1911 has been transformed into a luxury lighthouse overlooking the sea. The exteriors have been restored to their former glory. The interiors have been transformed into a modern apartment with a wellness area, hammam, and a living room with an open kitchen on the ground floor. On the first floor, two suites and a stunning panoramic terrace that opens towards the Mediterranean on one side and Mount Etna on the other.

NATUZZI - Ross Lovegrove's organic design defines Natuzzi's Ergo collection, a line of furniture designed for the sleeping area made with responsible, renewable, and recyclable materials. The wood used comes from FSC® certified plantations, managed correctly and responsibly according to strict environmental, social, and economic standards. The furniture assemblies have been made by interlocking, without the use of metal parts. The glues are water-based. All finishes are natural wax. The use of metal is limited to aluminum, reusable indefinitely.

STOCK EXCHANGE HOTEL AUTOBAN – The Stock Exchange Hotel in Manchester occupies an exclusive location, the former Stock Exchange Palace. The conversion of the building to a new use was carried out by the Turkish studio Autoban, who combined the plaster decorations, wooden details, and original marble masterfully recovered a series of furnishing accessories designed specifically for the spaces. The hotel has no less than 40 guest rooms - including two signature suites and a penthouse - and a restaurant created in the monumental space where negotiations were held for centuries .

GALLERIA OMA - Rem Koolhaas' latest madness is the new shopping mall Galleria in Gwanggyo, South Korea. Located in the center of a new urban area and surrounded by tall towers, the building looks like a monolith dropped from the sky, with an iridescent glass path that winds through all ten floors of the structure and looks like a crystal emerging from the rock. In addition to shops and clubs, the Gallery houses spaces for exhibitions or public performances and a series of terraces. It's also a panoramic point for observing the nascent city and nearby lake.
