The asymmetrical neckline has developed more into tops and bodysuits this year when it comes to fast fashion. On the runway, it is mostly seen in gowns and ready to wear dresses. Especially among the fall 2019 shows.

Asymmetrical necklines

Carolina Herrera and Kate Spade are a couple of designers among many that have taken on this trend for Fall 2019. Carolina Herrera used asymmetrical necklines in her floral dresses while also adding a puffed sleeve to the garment. Kate Spade took on the cut out detail with asymmetrical necklines. This trend creates a different shape of the neckline. Instead of a round or straight across the line, diagonals are now being used. The asymmetrical neckline also changes the shape and silhouette of a garment. The target customer for this trend would be a woman anywhere from 20-45 years old. This neckline can be seen on garments that are appealing to younger women but it can also be seen on dresses that are more flattering for middle-aged women. Carolina Herrera Fall 2019

Millennial Purple

For the fall 2019 season, it is predicted that purple will take off in fashion and millennials just as “millennial pink did in the past year. Lavendar has been on the trend radar for 2018 and the beginning of 2019. Designers are now turning to various shades of purple to incorporate into their looks. Purple was seen a lot through out Fall 2019 runway shows. Rodarte used a light pink-lavender for their floral look. Virgil Abloh incorporated a more purple lavender for his fall 2019 menswear line. Christian Siriano used a richer violet throughout his ruffled garments. It was interesting to see how designers took on the color purple in different ways. Millennial Purple, of course, falls under color when it comes to design elements. Millennial purple can be made up of saturated and desaturated purples. Also different tones and shades. Just as the Millennial Pink did this year. The target customer for this color would be a millennial. A man or woman who is between the ages of 18-25. They love to stay on trend. They’re not afraid of color and not attached to staying neutral within their wardrobe.

Lettuce Edge

The lettuce edge trend came back within the last year in a big way. We saw it mostly on tops. The trend of the 90s made its ways back to crop tops, necklines, and sleeves. Stores like Brandy Melville, Forever 21, and other fast fashion stores incorporated the trend into various styles of tops. The trend has developed for Fall of 2019 into a more abstract style. For Fall 2019, it is expected to be seen larger on the hems, sleeves, necklines, and across the body of garments. Clare Waight Keller, the creative director for Givenchy, incorporated the lettuce edge onto the sleeves, hems, and necklines of her floral printed pieces. The lettuce edge turns a simple straight line hem into something more abstract. By changing the line of the hem, it is also changing the shape and silhouette of the garment. The abstract edge creates a ruffled texture to the hem. It is an easy way to make a simple garment more complex. The target customer for this trend is a younger audience. Probably 18-25. It is a more ambitious choice in a garment. Someone who wants to try to trends in a more subtle way would take on the lettuce edge trend.

Ruffles

Ruffles have always been a big trend in clothing the past few years. They have been seen on tops, sleeves, dress, etc. This fall 2019 they seem to be more volumized. Ruffles are becoming bigger than before and there will be a lot more of them. The Valentino brand is known for incorporating ruffles into their gowns. For fall 2019 Pierpaolo Piccoli, the creative director, added a lot of sheer ruffles to his gowns. Christian Siriano also took on the trend by maximizing the ruffles. Some say it was similar to Piccoli’s spring 2019 line. Ruffles affect the line and shape of a garment. Ruffles give the garment texture and volumized the fabric. Making the fabric more volumize changes the shape and silhouette where the ruffles are applied. The target customer for this trend would be someone 20-35. They’re fairly young and want to be more ambitious than usual. Maybe they are used to wearing clothes that have subtle ruffles and now they want to take it to the extreme by either adding more or larger ruffles.
