A TWO DAY MASTER CLASS IN APPLYING CLINICAL HYPNOSIS THE DISCRIMINATING THERAPIST Utilizing Hypnosis to Teach Discrimination Strategies When determining some course of action, it’s generally less about what you think and more about how you think that determines whether you make some choice wisely or foolishly. How you think helps determine whether yours is a life of constant and exhausting self-generated dramas or one of relatively smooth sailing. How does one distinguish or discriminate between two or more available options in a given context? If one doesn’t have a reliable strategy for first identifying then distinguishing between options, called a discrimination strategy, the person is far more likely to choose according to criteria that will make matters worse, not better. This is a phenomenon called stress generation. Do people recognize options or do they just choose reflexively? The clinical and neuroscientific evidence strongly suggest the latter. In this two day master class, we will explore the patterns of thought involved in how people make important life choices, especially those that carry the potential to really make a critical difference in their emotional well being and quality of life. We will identify the obstacles to making better quality decisions, and will especially focus on the role hypnosis can play in encouraging the development of effective discrimination strategies. There will be structured skill-building practice sessions, group hypnosis processes, case discussions, and ample time for addressing questions related to ways of better utilizing hypnosis in the context of psychotherapy. Learning objectives: • To describe and discuss the relationship between global cognition and client symptom patterns • To model the use of the “How” question in the client interview to identify the client’s experiential deficit needing attention in the subsequent hypnosis session • To illustrate how the absence of a cognitive or perceptual template for making meaningful discriminations can result in distressing symptoms

ANGULAR.JS Angular is the wildly popular and productive front-end MVC JavaScript framework championed by Google. It is in many ways a perfect meeting place between the agile world of JavaScript and powerful design patterns, more commonly found in server-side languages like Java. Built from the ground up with testability in mind, dependency injection allows us to isolate components and yoke them into a test harness. This course is practical. You will, right from day one, be building widgets and applications with real world applicability. We will build against tests from the end of day one, and design sensible, component based solutions using best practice. You will also gain an awareness of the wider JavaScript toolchain ecosystem, including Node, Karma and Webpack. The course will start with the fundamentals and will lead all the way up to advanced topics like code organisation, the digest cycle and modifying the scope of a transclusion in a directive.

Who should enroll: This course is designed for software developers who are interested in learning how to build single page web applications or mobile hybrid apps. You should have good coding skills, and some skill with JavaScript. You will also need to be able to compose a basic website in HTML and CSS.

THE REACT AND FLUX COURSE WITH REDUX React is the exciting new framework from Facebook. Built in house to support their own JavaScript heavy site, and designed to facilitate three goals: performance, coder agility, and scale. React is a component based front end library that allows you to build applications out of a tree of small, testable, modular components. It features a diffing engine that makes DOM manipulation incredibly fast. Flux is an architectural pattern characterised by one way data flow, immutability and message passing. We create a central data store, and then pass messages to it to tell it how to change. Changes then flow into the component tree, updating the DOM. It can seem intimidating at first, but quickly becomes natural. In this practical course we

use Redux for Flux, which is currently the best practice solution. Who should enroll: This course is designed for software developers who are interested in learning how to build single page web applications or mobile hybrid apps. You should have good coding skills, and some skill with JavaScript. You will also need to be able to compose a basic website in HTML and CSS.
