KARA CREEK RANCH... UN VIAGGIO A CAVALLO NEL WYOMING

Quanti di noi appassionati di equidi, non necessariamente legati alla monta western, hanno sognato di essere in un ranch americano, almeno per un po’, a lavorare con i cavalli? Figli e nipoti dei film di John Wayne e degli “spaghetti western”, sicuramente a tanti questa idea è balenata in testa...Pochi hanno potuto realizzarla a livello di vacanza, e ancora meno sono riusciti a trasformarla in un lavoro. Tra questi ultimi, Luigi “Gigio” Pesola, a cui abbiamo chiesto di raccontare la propria storia..

Gigio Pesola e la passione per la vita nei ranch americani: come è nata e come l’hai sviluppata negli anni

Mio nonno, originario di Bari vecchia, portava gli aristocratici al teatro Petruzzelli con il suo calesse. I cavalli sono quindi sempre stati presenti nei miei geni. Mio padre, troppo impegnato a crescere una famiglia numerosa, non ha mai avuto la possibilità di vivere questa passione e si accontentava di guardare i film di John Wayne in televisione. Sono cresciuto così; e questa passione l’ho avuto nelle vene fin da bambino; non tanto di cavalcare, ma quanto di vivere la vita dei cowboys, allevando bestiame. Sono quindi partito al buio per gli States sperando di trovare qualcuno che accettasse di farsi carico di un ragazzo dall'inglese “maccheronico” e insegnargli il lavoro di un ranch. Così nel 1998 ho fatto la mia prima esperienza che mi ha portato ad avere grandissime soddisfazioni, a conoscere personaggi di statura mondiale e a guadagnarmi un ruolo nel ranch dove tutt’ora collaboro..”

Chi anima un ranch... le persone che lo gestiscono, i cavalli....e gli altri animali..

Al ranch, oltre a essere il riferimento per gli ospiti, personalmente mi occupo dei cavalli e delle varie attività con il bestiame. Ma i principali protagonisti del soggiorno in un working ranch sono proprio loro: i cavalli e il bestiame, immersi in paesaggi a perdita d’occhio che richiamano i grandi film western. Il proprietario, i cowboy, il folclore la cucina tipica e l’immersione totale nella cultura Americana sono una cornice importante in un quadro bellissimo. Tutto questo è l’esperienza che offriamo a Kara Creek: un working ranch a conduzione familiare (non prettamente turistica, ma con adeguata attenzione) dove i nostri ospiti possono godere della vera “western way of life” partecipando a round-up, guidando il bestiame ai pascoli estivi o ai pascoli invernali, partecipando a branding, imparando a riparare e costruire recinti, campeggiando nei grandi spazi aperti del Wyoming e frequentando rodei locali. Oltre alle normali attività da cowboy, è possibile conoscere la cucina tradizionale, fare passeggiate al tramonto o visitare incisioni dei nativi americani sulle rocce che circondano il ranch.

Kara Creek per i suoi ospiti... come la descriveresti in breve.. Kara creek ranch copre oltre 30.000 acri ed è situata nelle Black Hills del Wyoming, U.S.A. (estende le sue attività di allevamento in 7 ranch diversi dislocatisu 3 stati) La struttura principale si trova nelle vicinanze della storica cittadina di Sundance, cittadina in cui la cultura western è ancora molto sentita. La casa al ranch è la principale area di incontro per mangiare, rilassarsi o godere della tranquillità della sala col camino. Per chi preferisce, il Kara creek Saloon è il posto ideale per raccontarsi storie, bersi un drink o ascoltare della musica. Oltre alla casa principale del ranch, il ranch ha più cabine disponibili. Ogni camera al ranch dispone di spazi confortevoli, con un bagno privato. Il cibo al ranch è cowboy-style con carne (per lo più di nostra produzione), patate, pasta e verdure. Durante il soggiorno, non mancano le generose colazioni all’americana, il pranzo al sacco e la cena tipica servita in stile familiare nella sala da pranzo.

Qual è la giornata tipo da “ ranch” ?

Le attività al ranch ruotano attorno alle reali esigenze lavorative e variano a seconda della stagione: Aprile-giugno: la principale attività in questo periodo dell’anno è la marchiatura e la transumanza. Luglio-novembre: Dopo che il bestiame ha pascolato liberamente durante i mesi estivi, è tempo di radunarlo e organizzarlo per la vendita e spostare i restanti bovini ai pascoli invernali. Questo è un periodo ideale per visitare il ranch e andare a cavallo tutti i giorni, lavorando a stretto contatto con il bestiame.

La giornata incomincia al sorgere del sole con una ricca colazione a a base di bacon n’ eggs, pancakes, muffin, brownies ecc..) e il recupero dei cavalli che sono sempre a pascolo. Organizzato il lavoro quotidiano, che varia a seconda delle reali necessità dell’allevamento, si esce a lavorare il bestiame per rientrare in serata a gustarsi una cena tipica come bistecche, pollo fritto, prosciutto affumicato, pulled pork ecc.. Alla sera ci si ritrova al Saloon per bere qualcosa insieme e raccontarsi storie anche insieme a personaggi del mondo del Rodeo amici del proprietario.

How many of us, with horse riding passion, not necessarily tied to western one, have dreamed of being on an American ranch, at least for a while, working with horses? Sons and grandchildren of John Wayne’s films and of the “spaghetti westerns”, surely this idea has flashed into the minds of many… Few have been able to realize it as a holiday, and even fewer have been able to turn it into a job. Among the latter, Luigi “Gigio” Pesola, whom we asked to tell his story .. I have this passion since I was a child; not so much to ride, but to live the life of cowboys, raising cattle. In 1998 I had my first experience which led me to have great satisfaction, to meet people of world stature and to earn a role in the ranch where I still work .. “

Who animates a ranch ... the people who run it, the horses ... and the other animals ..

At the ranch, in addition to being the reference for guests, I personally take care of the horses and the various activities with livestock. But the main protagonists of the stay in a working ranch are them: the horses and cattle, in landscapes as far as the eye can see that recall the great western films. Kara Creek for guests ... how would you describe the place.. Kara creek ranch covers over 30,000 acres and is located in the Black Hills of Wyoming, U.S.A. Activities at the ranch revolve around real work needs and vary according to the season: April-June: the main activity in this period of the year is branding and transhumance. July-November: After the cattle have grazed freely during the summer months, it is time to herd them and organize them for sale and move the remaining cattle to the winter pastures. This is a great time to visit the ranch and go horse riding every day, working closely with the cattle. The days begin at sunrise with a rich breakfast based on bacon n ‘eggs, pancakes, muffins, brownies, etc. and the recovery of the horses that are always grazing.
