Two years later, the Irwindale Police Department in California raised over $20,000 for the City of Hope one of the nation’s largest cancer centers - by selling its own pink patches. Chief Anthony Miranda then took this fundraising idea to the Los Angeles Police Chiefs Association, and 25 local agencies joined the Pink Patch Project campaign. Since then, roughly 900,000 patches have been sold and about $1.4 million has been raised for breast cancer research organizations. Currently, over 500 agencies

The patches are also for sale on eBay. Local retailers that sell the standard SBPD patch, such as the Toy Train Museum and the Strasburg Rail Road, will also sell the pink patch. “The sooner we find a cure, the less people will be impacted by this Pink patches will be for sale at the disease, and the more funds we Strasburg Borough Police Department.

This year, for the first time, the Strasburg Borough Police Department (SBPD), 145 Precision Avenue, Strasburg, will participate in the Pink Patch Project campaign. “As a police department, we’re always looking for a different approach to evolve how we serve our community, and this is one way ... we can do that,” explained SBPD patrolman Robert Burns. Throughout the month of October, the SBPD will wear special pink versions of its shoulder patch on the regular duty uniforms. Harvest Church Posts Fall Activities

2021

R074943

Harvest Presbyterian Church PCA will participate in the West Lampeter Fair for the first time on Wednesday to Friday, Sept. 22 to 24. At the organization’s booth, church members will provide free popcorn and literature to help people grow in their faith. There will also be a children’s game in which parents can be called on to assist, as well as a giveaway drawing for a fall home decoration. This fall, Harvest will host Christianity Explored in various locations; dates are to be announced. This free program is open to the public and aims to provide a warm, friendly environment where people can learn about who Jesus is and why He came to Earth. The church will also host a Harvest Festival on Saturday, Oct. 2, from 2 to 8 p.m. This free community picnic will include with games, hayrides, adult tricycle races and food. Harvest is located at 517 Beaver Valley Pike and has just celebrated 10 years in its present building. The congregation worships on Sundays at 10:45 a.m. For the 10 years previous to its moving to its current facility, the church met in the basement of Willow Street Restaurant and Lancaster Seventh-day Adventist Church. Harvest called its new pastor, Jim Furey, about a year ago. Jim and his wife, Carol, came to faith in Christ early in their marriage. They attended Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., which was led by pastor D. James Kennedy. Jim served as an elder in the church and was active in Evangelism Explosion, a ministry teaching others how to lovingly share their faith in Christ. Jim worked in banking for about 15 years before he felt God’s call to pastoral ministry. He attended Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Miss., and then planted and pastored churches in Indianapolis and Buffalo, N.Y. Jonathan Mellinger scored on a one-yard run with 6:12 left in the half and QB Berkeley Wagner added a 49-yard score just over five minutes later. A balanced attack saw Payton Cunningham reach the endzone in the third frame while Giovanni Malatesta added the final TD with 6:01 remaining. Andrew Reidenbaugh, who capped the scoring with a 21yard field goal, went 4-for-4 in PAT’s. “I thought we came together and played complimentary football,” said head coach Victor Ridenour who took over for John Manion (23 years). Wagner and Malatesta combined for 158 of Lampeter’s 209 rushing yards. Dante Gilot and Beau Heyser each hauled in a pair of passes and Luke Hines recorded a team high five solo tackles.

“We did have a number of penalties but if we tweak our technique those should clean up a bit,” Ridenour added. “This was an unselfish effort by all that contributed to the win. The kids truly only care about the end result.” BOYS’ SOCCER The Pioneers hosted Penn Manor in their season opener Sept. 3 but came out on the wrong side of a 3-0 result. Despite a 1-0 halftime deficit, L-S gave up a pair of second half goals in the non-league contest. In the league opener last Tuesday night in Elizabethtown, the Bears pulled away from a 1-1 first half tie with a pair of second half tallies to win 3-2. Andrew Reidenbaugh’s first half header goal put L-S on the board while Dan Marcroft’s goal after the break knotted the score again. But it was E-town with the last say, scoring the game winner minutes into OT. “It was a tough game for both teams and a great section matchup,” said Etown boss Jim Sostack. Wiederseim To Sell Collection Of Ed And Carol Stoudt Of Stoudts’ Black Angus Brewery and Pub Sale To Take Place In Phoenixville On July 24

This is a vintage Wurlitzer juke box. The couple opened the Black Angus Antique Mall along with the restaurant and beer garden in the 1980s. Business was good. Why not open a brewery? Based on German beers brewed in the Reinheitsgebot tradition, the couple opened the brewery in 1987, with Carol becoming the first female brewmaster in the U.S. since Prohibition. Through the years, the couple traveled and collected extensively

for their business and home. They assembled items such as Black Forest carved furniture (including two tall case clocks), whimsical circus novelties, Art Nouveau brass chandeliers for the beer hall, carousel horses and an unusual carousel

running rooster, vintage posters, a large collection of German steins, a restored 1932 Auburn Convertible and a 1937 Ford Woody, partially restored, all of which will be in the July 24 sale. “If you’ve ever been to Stoudt’s, you’ll be very familiar with the items in this sale and won’t want to miss it. Their Oktoberfests were the best! Ed in his lederhosen leading the procession, the beer hall with great German food and the German band,” said Ted Wiederseim, auctioneer and owner of Wiederseim Associates Inc. “The Stoudt sale will be our first live sale in over a year, and we’re very excited about getting back to business as usual.” Bidding will be live/in-person as well as live online through Bidsquare, Invaluable and Liveauctioneers. A preview starts Monday, July 19, and runs through Friday, July 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sale will be held at Wiederseim’s facility, located at 1041 W. Bridge St., Phoenixville, Pa. For additional information, call 610-827-1910 or visit www.wiederseim.com.

The massive Art Deco brass chandeliers are from Stoudt’s Bier Hall.

July Is Customer Appreciation Month At The Emporium The Historic Burlington Antiques and Art Emporium in Burlington City, N.J., will continue its year-long celebration of 20 years in business with Customer Appreciation Month all July. The Emporium will give away three gift certificates at the end of the month. Three lucky customers will have a chance to win a $50, $25, or $15 gift certificate to the multidealer shop. Each time a customer receives an invoice, they will receive a raffle ticket, thus the more a customer buys, the more chances they have of winning. Also, each month during the summer, the front sales display case will highlight dealer’s best or unusual items from their booth or case. The Emporium will be divided into three sections, starting with its dealers located on Route 130 and ending with the dealers on River Continued on page 5
