Mommy and Me Clay Handprint Crabs

Little artists will play with clay while creating a clay crab using impressions of their handprints! After sculpting and glazing our crabs, they will be kiln-fired and returned to The Buzz about two weeks after class. Mommy and Me Clay Cupcakes

Yin Yoga

This slower-paced yoga class consists of a thorough warm-up, gradually building heat to facilitate the opportunity to take it to floor-based postures and focus on a deeper stretch. Date: Fridays in February Time: 10:00–11:00 a.m. Cost: $20 per class Registration: Ongoing The L.B. “Buzz” Ahrens, Jr. Recreation Center is located at Cherokee Veterans Park. This is a state-of-the-art 32,623-square-foot facility with two full-sized basketball courts, cardio/fitness area, multiple classrooms, a dance studio, a large banquet hall with a catering kitchen, and a rock-climbing wall in the main atrium.

Youth Summer Scents Candle-Making Workshop

Create a set of three candles and personalize them with colors, scents, and embellishments with a summer theme. Candles will need an additional 30 minutes to set after class before they are ready to take home and enjoy. Date: Saturday, July 15 Time: 10:00–11:00 a.m. Cost: $40 Ages: 9–12 years of age Limitations: Class is limited to 5–10 participants. Registration: Closes July 7

Flow and Go Yoga

This class will consist of a thorough warm-up, heat-building, and strength and balance postures to help you feel powerful and energized. Date: Monday & Wednesdays beginning in February Time: 10:00–11:00 a.m. Cost: $20 per class Registration: Ongoing

Mixed Martial Arts

Participants learn a reality-based program of anti-bullying techniques, meditation, and breathing exercises. No experience necessary. Dates: Mondays, February 6 through March 27 Time: 4:30–5:30 p.m. Cost: $175 per session Ages: 5–16 years of age Registration: Closes January 30

Attracting Butterflies & Hummingbirds

The Monarch and its cousins are simple to attract and use the same nectar sources as hummingbirds. Learn how to use and place hummingbird feeders around your home and select plants that attract both butterflies and birds. Maureen Penniman will help you plant a small butterfly garden and create an upcycled feeder. Attracting Birds to Backyard

This interactive class covers feeder types, bird feed, and tips on how to limit squirrels from crashing your backyard bird party. We will also introduce Feeder Watch. You’ll make an upcycled feeder using found objects and a nutritious bird food mixture. Date: Saturday, April 1 Time: 9:30–11:00 a.m. Cost: $45 Ages: All Limitations: Class is limited to 5–10 participants. Registration: Closes March 24

Building Birdhouses

Learn about different birdhouse designs for specific species and how to use Nest Watch, a Cornell University website that monitors and collects data on bird populations. Each participant builds an Eastern Bluebird Birdhouse made of rough-cut cedar. Date: Saturday, April 29 Time: 2:30–4:00 p.m. Cost: $55 Ages: All (Minors must be accompanied by an adult.) Limitations: Class is limited to 5–10 participants. Registration: Closes April 21 Create a portrait of your pet using watercolors and a custom stencil made just for you of your pet. Pet photos will need to be submitted in advance to be used to create your stencil. An Introduction to Birding

Get involved with one of America’s most enjoyable pastimes! Learn how to identify Cherokee County birds. Learn to choose affordable binoculars, use field guides and birding apps, and how to use the Peterson identification method. You will even make a bird ornament from felt. Date: Saturday, March 25 Time: 9:30–11:00 a.m. Cost: $45 Ages: All Limitations: Class is limited to 5–10 participants. Registration: Closes March 17

Whether you are new to tennis, need to brush up on a few skills, or are looking to move your game to the next level of play, our tennis program has something for you. Lessons are taught at Cherokee Veterans Park.
