Sara Subiaco è nata a Roma, ha 24 anni ed ha recentemente scoperto di essere un’abile stilista. Parla di se in modo onesto e diretto. Nessu na passione smodata per gli abiti delle Barbie, né una fashionista che si improvvisa modellista e sarta. Dopo il liceo scientifico ha creduto di voler seguire le elaborate dimensioni dell’architettura. Ben presto, però, scopre che ciò che le era apparso come il percorso ideale non le dava gli stimoli necessari per continuare. La passione per lo stile e il desiderio di dare volume al tessuto, la guida alla scoperta di una vecchia macchina da cucire di sua nonna. Inizia così un giovane e naturale idillio tra Sara e la sua vera vocazione. In tre anni ha imparato a progettare, disegnare, tagliare e cucire e a dare vita alla sua armatura polivalente e multiforme in spesso cotone e bottoni automatici a pressione. Un progetto unico di evoluzione stilistica in moduli triangolari che si adattano perfettamente ai volumi del corpo e dell’anima.
Sara Subiaco was born in Rome 24 years ago and recently found out she is a talnted designer. She speaks of herself honestly. No excessive passion for the clothes of Barbie or nor a real fashionista suddenly “wanna be” a pattern maker with tailoring skills. After high school she thought she wanted to follow the drawn size of the architecture. Soon, however, Sara discovers that what had appeared to be the ideal route did not give the necessary incentives to continue. The passion for style and the desire to give volume to clothes, guided her to discovery an old sewing machine from her grandmother. Thus began a youthful and natural romance between Sara and her true vocation. In three years she has learned how to design, draw, cut and sew and give life to her multi-faceted asnaps and cotton armor. A unique project of stylistic evolution in triangular modules that fit perfectly the volumes of body and soul.
La pupa (denominata crisalide nel solo ambito dei Lepidotteri) è uno stadio che si manifesta nel corso dello sviluppo postembrionale di alcuni insetti e che precede lo stadio di adulto. Alcune pupe, anche dette evoiche, derivano dall’ultima muta larvale e utilizzano dei rivestimenti protettivi veri e propri, che hanno il compito di preservare l’insetto dall’evaporazione. L’involucro, detto bozzolo, è costruito in seta. The pupa (called chrysalis only in the context of the Lepidoptera) is a stage that occurs during the post-embryonic development of some insects and preceding the adult stage. Some pupae, also called evoiche, changes from the last larval evolution and use of protective coatings themselves, who have the task of preserving the insect evaporation. The casing, called cocoon, is constructed in silk.
Non è desueto il passaggio dall’architettura alla moda. Da dove proviene il primo contatto e l’ispirazione per costruire architetture di tessuto?

Durante le vacanze natalizie ho trovato una vecchia macchina da cucire e senza sapere il perché ho deciso di portarla a casa. Volevo conservare i ricordi e scoprirne i segreti.
During the Christmas holidays I found an old sewing machine and with now clue I decided to take it home. I wanted to preserve the memories and discover its secrets.
Dopo averla pulita accuratamente ho cercato di capire come funzionasse e mi sono chiesta se sarei mai stata in grado di utilizzarla adeguatamente.
After cleaning carefully I tried to understand how it worked and I wondered if I’d ever been able to use it properly.
Continuavo ad osservarla con maniacale interesse e promisi a me stessa che sarei riuscita a cucire un abito. Sentivo una crescente esigenza, che avevo intenzione di appagare. Di lì a poco avrei realizzato il mio primo abito. Imperfetto. Volevo solo cucire. Avevo unincessante desiderio di completare il mio progetto. A quel punto ho capito che volevo diventare una Stilista a tutto tondo.

Non sono davvero una che va pazza per i trend del momento. Non ho mai nutrito particolare interesse per lo stile e la moda, preferivo jeans comodi e maglioni oversize – anche quando erano out – ma poi ho trovato una connessione profonda tra me e il mondo di trama e ordito. Le mie influenze in fatto di moda sono piuttosto ampie. I riferimenti più immediati sono senza dubbio Paco Rabanne al quale mi sono ispirata per sviluppare l’armatura, ho “rubato” i volumi e le forme a Gareth Pugh e i tessuti rigidi e tridimensionali a Iris Van Herpen. Mi piace spaziare e quando inizio a lavorare ad un nuovo progetto parto sempre da Alexander McQueen, Sandra Buckland, Hussein Chalayan.
I’m not really one that is crazy about the latest trends. I’ve never fed particular interest for style and fashion, I preferred comfortable jeans and oversize sweaters - even when they were out - but then I found a deep connection between me and the world of warp and weft. My influences in fashion are quite large. The references are undoubtedly Paco Rabanne which I was inspired to develop the armor , I “stole” the volumes and shapes to Gareth Pugh and stiff fabrics and three-dimensional Iris Van Herpen. I like to space out and when I start working on a new project I always start by Alexander McQueen, Sandra Buckland, Hussein Chalayan.
and I promised myself that I would have learned to sew a dress. I felt a growing need that I was about to satisfy. Soon I sawn my first dress. Imperfect. I just wanted to sew. I felt an overwhelming desire to complete my project. At that point I realized that I wanted to become a Fashion Designer. and

Ho concepito la giacca de-costruibile pensando ad una donna fragile, inghiottita dall’incessante, frenetico e incalzante movimento urbano. Come una “pupa” si cela nel bozzolo che costruisce per essere protetta da ciò che la circonda, la mia Crisalide umana ha bisogno di essere custodita fino al momento in cui non sarà pronta per conoscere l’universo esterno e per rivelarsi. Un’armatura ermetica che protegge e si adatta al corpo. Una comune giacca ma anche uno stato d’animo cullato nella confortevole sicurezza di un’ambiente familiare. Un capo unico che evolve multiforme e si armonizza con le necessità e il contesto circostante.
I created this de- constructible jacket thinking of a fragile woman, swallowed up by the incessant, fast-paced and paced urban movement. As a “ pupa “ hidden in the cocoon built to be protected from what is around, my human Chrysalis needs to be preserved until she will not be ready to meet the external universe and to be revealed . It is an hermetic armor that protects and adapts to the body. A common jacket but also a state of mind cradled in the comfortable security of a family atmosphere. A unique multifaceted item that evolves and is in harmony with the needs and the surrounding context of the human.
Semplici geometrie e elementi basici della sartoria convergono per creare un capo architettonico, elegante e complesso. Un incontro tra due passioni? L’armatura muta fino ad adattarsi completamente alla persona. Si connette alle armonie percettive del contesto circostante. Per questo ho realizzato moduli triangolari interamente staccabili mediante bottoni automatici a pressione, unendo la praticità ad un design essenziale e contemporaneo. Ho utilizzato un tessuto molto rigido e sostenuto, desideravo che diventasse una giacca protettiva con volumi accentuati che falsificassero la silhouette del soggetto. Come una gabbia che protegge dalle influenze esterne. Sicuramente in questo progetto stilistico ho trascinato le mie attenzioni primordiali per l’architettura prima che divenisse solo una corrispondenza per imparare a comunicare con tessuti e cartamodelli.
Simple geometry and basic elements of tailoring converges to create an architectural, elegant and complex piece. A meeting between two passions? The armor evolves until it fits completely to the person. It connects to the harmonies of perception of the surrounding context. That’s why I made triangular modules and fully detachable by snaps, combining practicality with a sleek and contemporary feeling. I used a very stiff and supported fabric, I wanted it to become a protective jacket with accentuated volumes to fake the real silhouette of the subject. As a cage protecting ski n and body from external influences. Surely in this style project I dragged my initial attention to architecture before it became only a matching element to learn how to communicate with fabrics and patterns.

Adoro le atmosfere fantastiche e gotiche. Il Romanticismo rappresenta una grande fonte di ispirazione che io amo unire a forme tridimensionali, rigide e geometriche. Quindi nel mio lavoro cerco di coniugare queste due realtà distanti tra loro. Un sogno tangibile. Direi che è la perfetta sintesi di quello che un giorno spero rappresenterà il mio stile.
I love fantastic and Gothic atmosphere. Romanticism is a great source of inspiration that I love to combine with threedimensional, rigid and geometric shapes. So in my work I try to combine these two realities. A tangible dream. I would say that is the perfect synthesis of what one day I hope it will be my style.

A dire il vero questo capo non fa parte di una collezione. La collezione esiste grazie all’evoluzione della stessa giacca/armatura. Tutte le creazioni realizzate fino ad adesso fanno parte di concept sviluppati per gli esami accademici dell’Accademia di Belle Arti che frequento a Frosinone. L’idea è quella di sviluppare un concept completo, ma è ancora solo un’idea…
