The law also includes amputation of limbs as punishment for theft. Brunei is a tiny monarchy on the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia ruled by Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah. The new penal code is based on Shariah, Islamic law based on the Quran and other writings.

They’re loaning a lot of money to women who have great ideas but (find it) very difficult to get any financing.” After recently attending a conference titled “Living an Inspired Life and to be Fearless,” Wiley’s piece of advice for pursuing professional or business goals is to be fearless – and to continue trying. “We all fail, and we all fear something,” Wiley stated. “It’s how we overcome that fear, how we address that fear; and (we should remember) it’s OK (to fear) change, (to fear) the prospect of failing. It’s natural.”

The reasonable pricing and speedy convenience of ride-hailing enjoys broad appeal from students to seniors and people with a physical impairment, parents, busy professionals and partiers opting not to drink and drive. Whenever a new invention is introduced, there’s typically a period of adjustment while society gets habituated and familiar with the phenomenon, such as ride-sharing. Consumers must learn how to use the service and identify the associated safety and security precautions to take, and find out what means the various ride-hailing companies employ to promote rider and driver safety. A recent tragedy in South Carolina brought attention to the urgency of being ride-share savvy and has prompted a national public awareness campaign. Late last month, Samantha Josephson, a beautiful 21-year-old college student was murdered by a man she mistook for her Uber driver. Samantha’s father, Seymour is honoring her memory. He’s dedicated his life to improving the safety of ride-sharing services. Now, he’s raising awareness and promoting a national campaign called “What’s My Name.” Uber and Lyft drivers have access to the name of the person they’re supposed to be picking up. Seymour is warning ride-share users, especially women to do two things before getting into the car. Verify the license plate with the app; check the make, model and color of the vehicle on the app; and match the driver’s photo with the app. Then, ask the driver, “What’s my name?” Seymour hopes the campaign will save lives, that riders will remember Samantha and remember to ask. He joins experts and others to offer additional safety tips. Wait for your ride indoors. Map your route on your own GPS navigation and monitor during the ride to ensure the driver is staying on course. Ride in the back seat. Use the “share status” option in the Uber app or the “Send ETA” feature on the Lyft app to let a friend know who your driver is, where you’re going, where you are on the route and when you’re supposed to arrive. What befell Samantha is horrific for her and grievously sad for her loved ones who may be consoled that it wasn’t in vain. The heightened attention to rideshare safety her death set off is potentially lifesaving.

In her resignation letter, Nielsen said this was the “right time” for her to leave. “I hope that the next secretary will have the support of Congress and the courts in fixing the laws which have contributed to discord in our nation’s discourse,” she wrote in the two-page letter. Later, in a tweet, Nielsen said she would stay through Wednesday (April 10) to “assist with an orderly transition.” On Monday (April 8), Trump continued the leadership dismantling of the country’s top domestic security agency when the White House announced the removal of U.S. Secret Service Director Randolph D. “Tex” Alles. According to the Washington Post, one DHS official said the White House had given no cause for Alles’ removal. “They are decapitating the entire department,” the official said. Many DHS officials have admitted that Trump is not happy with how top officials are handling immigration. The director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, L. Francis Cissna; and John Mitnick, DHS general counsel, could be next, officials told the Post. James M. Murray, a career member of the Secret Service, will take over as director, beginning in May.

Nationwide power outages have left vast arrays of territory in the dark for days at a time, cutting off water supplies and cell phone service. The rationing of electricity also has kept water from getting to a large part of the country. Many people have taken to drawing water from unsanitary pipes or streams running off the Avila Mountain in Caracas. Opposition leader Juan Guaido – who has been recognized as Venezuela’s rightful head of state by most Western nations, including the United States – had called for rallies to mark what he said is a new wave of “definitive” protests to oust Maduro. The country also is dealing with hunger, malnourishment, and shortages of medicines and medical supplies. The situation is so bad that a report published recently by Human Rights Watch and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health called on U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres to declare a “complex humanitarian emergency.” According to the report, conditions are so bad that patients who go to the hospital need to bring their own food and medical supplies, like syringes and scalpels, along with their own soap and water. The report resulted from interviews with doctors and organizations within Venezuela, immigrants who had recently fled the country, and health officials in Colombia and Brazil. Researchers also used some data from the last official government health report, published in 2017. Maduro keeps blaming the power outages in Venezuela to attacks by the U.S. government. The opposition blames it on the government’s incompetence.

Other measures in the budget include the closing of up to three state prisons to be determined, the elimination of cash bail for minor offenses and arrests for non-violent crimes, an annual and permanent limit of 2 percent on property taxes and another $1 thousand millions for public education, among others.

The last day of the four-day event was originally scheduled for Feb. 16, but had to be moved to April 6 due to weather conditions. KC BizFest, an annual event by the Greater Kansas City Hispanic Collaborative and the Greater Kansas City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, offers high school juniors and seniors in the Kansas City metro area an opportunity to learn a variety of life skills and business techniques. More than 100 students participated of the four-day training. In the final stage, the final six participants presented their business project to the judges, who then chose the winners. The winners received their awards during the closing ceremony Saturday afternoon. This year, Brenda Garcia won first place and received $2,500 in scholarship to a college of her choice. Other winners were Lesli Barraza, Braulio Escamilla, Brenda Santiago-Ramos, Lance Ornelas y María Izquierdo. The judges for this year’s final round included: Cristal Perez, Latinos of Tomorrow founder; Eric Negrete, director of interior design at Action Pact; Rene Aguirre, editor-in-chief of Ñ Magazine; and Clara Reyes, Dos Mundos founder and editor. Reyes was impressed by the preparation and thought put in the business presentations and commends the program for the tools it gives to the students. “It’s an important program because it gives (students) the tools they need to start a business in the future,” she said. “It teaches them how to start a business, what things they need to consider before doing that, and how to pitch their ideas to other people.”

Now, an NHANES team of health professionals, nutritionists and health technicians has arrived to Jackson County and wants everyone who has been selected for the survey to agree to participate. Residents will have an invitation-only opportunity to participate in NHANES. Individuals have been selected at random (in a process similar to taking names out of a hat) for NHANES, and include all ages, races, and ethnicities in order to represent the U.S. population as a whole. Respondents first participate in a health interview conducted in the respondent’s home followed by a health examination that takes place in the NHANES mobile examination center. While no medical care is provided directly in the mobile examination center, a report on physical findings is given to each participant along with an explanation from survey medical staff. All information collected in the survey is kept confidential and privacy is protected by law. People who agree to participate will receive up to $125 in compensation.

ienvenidos turistas, en esta edición nos toca hablar de la única ciudad en el país en donde se pueden apreciar las auroras boreales, que además es la segunda ciudad más grande y poblada de Alaska, nos referimos a Fairbanks, Alaska. Su fundación data del año 1903 y cuenta con una población de poco menos de 40 mil habitantes, mientras que su área metropolitana cuenta con casi 100 mil habitantes. La ciudad de Fairbanks es sin duda una de las ciudades más privilegiadas en el mundo en cuanto a fenómenos espectaculares de la naturaleza se refiere ya que tiene el privilegio de contar con el fenómeno llamado aurora boreal, el cual consiste en una iluminación natural en el cielo que se puede presentar en distintas tonalidades de amarillo, verde, púrpura o rojo; todo esto se debe a que las partículas cargadas procedentes del sol chocan con el campo magnético de la Tierra y se dirigen a los polos de la misma, una vez ahí chocan con las moléculas de oxígeno y nitrógeno haciendo que ganen un electrón que más tarde devolverá esa energía en forma de luz, dependiendo de la intensidad y longitud de onda de esa luz dependerá la tonalidad de colores que se pueden percibir. Existen muy pocos lugares en el mundo en donde se puede apreciar este fenómeno y en EE.UU. es prácticamente el único sitio. La mejor época para disfrutar de éste fenómeno es de septiembre a marzo. Los vuelos redondos de Kansas a Fairbanks tienen un costo promedio de $500 y cuentan con al menos 1 escala. La mejor forma de moverse dentro de la ciudad es en automóvil, así que la renta de automóvil es una excelente opción y la mayoría de compañías están en el mismo aeropuerto, si tu plan no es el de manejar en tu viaje también se cuenta con servicio de taxis y aunque muy poco frecuentes pero también operan autobuses que se mueven por todo el centro de la ciudad por $3 al día. El hospedaje en Fairbanks no se encuentra fuera de los precios regulares, una habitación en un hotel 3 estrellas tiene un costo promedio de $70 la noche, mientras que en un hotel 5 estrellas tiene un costo de $200 la noche, pero si quieres disfrutar realmente de la naturaleza te recomiendo busques alguna cabaña para quedarte, con un costo promedio de $80 la noche. Si hablamos de gastronomía de la región debemos hablar del pescado sin ninguna duda, principalmente el salmón, pero no te preocupes si no eres amante de la comida proveniente de mar, podrás encontrar incluso un mc Donalds y muchos restaurantes de comida proveniente de distintos países y regiones, el costo promedio de una comida es de $23. Los lugares que no deberás dejar de visitar en tu próximo viaje por Fairbanks son los siguientes: Museo del Norte de la Universidad de Alaska, aquí podrás encontrar sin duda la historia que hay detrás de esta hermosa ciudad, además de conocer todas las especies que habitan esta zona. Una vez estando ahí no está de más conocer la universidad, la cual fue construida hace más de 100 años. El costo de entrada del museo es de $12 Chena Hot Springs Resort, es un hotel que cuenta con aguas termales naturales al aire libre. En este sitio podrás rentar una cabaña en donde podrás disfrutar del avistamiento de las auroras boreales, además de naturaleza por todos lados, de la piscina cerrada para niños y adultos así como de las relajantes aguas termales que tanta falta hacen con ese frío. The city of Fairbanks is one of the most privileged cities in the world in terms of spectacular phenomena of nature. It has the privilege of hosting the phenomenon called aurora borealis, which consists of natural lighting in the sky which can be presented in different shades of yellow, green, purple or red. All this happens because the particles charge from the sun collide with the Earth’s magnetic field and go to the poles of the same, once there they collide with the oxygen and nitrogen molecules causing them to gain an electron that will later return that energy in the form of light. The hue of colors that can perceive will depend on the intensity and wavelength of that light. You can also drink at a bar made of ice and sit on banks made of ice. The admission fee is $15 and if you want to see the Northern Lights show, the price is $22 for both. Arctic Circle is one of the best places to admire the Northern Lights phenomenon. In fact, most of the guided tours have it as the main point of sighting this area. You can arrive on your own by car. Chena River has the shape of a snake and you can do different activities here. Some of the actives include kayak, fish, raft, or snowmobile along the length of the river and go to Pioneer Park in where you can learn a little more about the history of the city and the culture of the native Alaskan Eskimos.
