Called paraMi (“For Me” in English) and created during the COVID pandemic, paraMi was founded by four area mothers (Lilia Veronica Alvidrez, Silvia, Nayelly and Erika). The brand “was born out of a little bit of frustration from everything that was placed on us as responsibilities over the pandemic,” Alvidrez said.

“Suddenly, we were expected to be nurses, home caregivers, use a lot of hats; and then, we realized we were losing kind of our own identities during the pandemic,” Alvidrez said. “And so, upon a discussion between friends …, this topic came about and we realized we were kind of suffering through it alone. And so, that’s when we wanted to do something about it and paraMi was born.”

The name was born after the founders realized they wanted to do something for themselves.

“We kind of just landed on the name,” Alvidrez said. “It spoke to all of us.”

Alvidrez describes paraMi as ever-growing, in tune and hopeful. Although paraMi has a website, it also has had presence at various community events, she said, adding the owners plan to expand the brand into Oklahoma, Nebraska and Iowa.

For Alvidrez and her partners, the business provides an empowering representation of Latinas.

“paraMi means allowing ourselves to dream big and to allow our creativity to flourish,” she said. “We want to grow old with our customers and grow along with them in this life journey and … (redefine) what it is to be a Latina in the United States and … (know) we can dream much higher than people think.”

The family didn’t have renter’s insurance.

We can all sympathize with the plight of the Mendozas. Bad things happen. It’s an unfortunate fact of life. But we can all take something valuable from it. The Mendoza’s Christmas morning calamity is a cautionary tale for us all. Their unfortunate situation illustrates how devastating it is when a catastrophe occurs. Had the Mendozas carried property and casualty insurance, it would’ve helped pay to replace their belongings. Alas, too many people mistakenly believe that their landlord’s policy covers their possessions, or they think renter’s insurance would be too expensive.

The fire also underscores the heightened risk of fire during the holidays and cold winter months. This is peak time for burning festive candles, lighting fireplaces and electrical decorations, inattentive cooking and unattended or badly placed space heaters.

Pero, al final de cuentas, Biden y AMLO saben algo esencial: México y Estados Unidos están tan amarrados que la única solución es aprender a vivir juntos.

México y Estados Unidos aún mantienen enormes diferencias de salarios y de crecimiento económico. Y suelen tener posiciones encontradas respecto a la migración, al uso de armas y al narcotráfico, entre muchos otros temas.

Somos muy distintos pero el destino de ambos países

Es una frontera impuesta por la fuerza, incómoda y frecuentemente violada.

La frontera, para efectos prácticos y muy a pesar de las declaraciones de los políticos, está semiabierta. Sí, muchas personas son detenidas y deportadas. Pero montones logran entrar. Ni siquiera Donald Trump, que hizo su campaña a la presidencia prometiendo la construcción de un gran muro que México pagaría, pudo detener significativamente el paso de migrantes sin papeles.

Estados Unidos es el refugio de los desesperanzados. Y no hay nada inusual en que los más pobres y vulnerables del continente tomen la decisión de irse al país más rico. Este es el flujo migratorio natural en todo el planeta. ¿Quién se atreve a decirle a un padre con un hijo enfermo, a una madre soltera sin trabajo o a un adolescente amenazado por las pandillas, que no pueden huir de su país yånidad?

Y cuando tienes a un país próspero con una alta demanda de trabajadores que también tiene demasiada demanda de drogas, pues también entran sustancias ilícitas.

In 1989, Rita married the love of her life, Nicholas Hernandez, Jr., and they were married for 33 years. Rita & Nick did not have children of their own, but shared a special bond with their great-niece, Alexis Hernandez.

Rita enjoyed visiting Las Vegas, going shoe and purse shopping, getting her nails done, and spending time with her family, but she really cherished her time spent with her «puppy dog,» Lollipop.

Rita was loud by nature and had a fantastic sense of humor, you could always count on her to cuss you out at least once while she was present. Many things were taken from her by Parkinson›s, yet she retained her spirit and sense of humor.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Simon & Catalina Urbina; In-laws, Nicholas & Angie Hernandez; brother-in-law, Marty Hernandez. Rita is survived by her loving husband, Nicholas; great-niece, Alexis Hernandez; one sister, Sylvia Urbina; and one brother, Mario Urbina (Delfina), Rita had many nieces and nephews but shared a close relationship with nieces, Lisa Moran, & Rachel

Davila. Rita will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Celebration of her life will be on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Guardian Angels Church, 1310 Westport Rd. Kansas City, MO 64111.

“We’re not there yet, and there is more work to do to figure out if we can push the 44- percent reduction even further,” Hoge said in a press release. “But I do think this is a transformational moment for the field (of cancer treatment), for the company and, we hope, for patients. We had a lot of success going after viruses, but nobody has ever demonstrated that mRNA vaccines could work in a randomized controlled trial in cancer. We are starting to show with data that they absolutely can and that they can have a bigger impact in other fields than the one for which they became famous.”

As part of the work that still must be done, patients from the study will remain under examination. Moderna scientists will reportedly monitor how long the immune response lasts and how well the vaccine holds up to future recurrences or metastases. The company hopes to consider using the vaccine in people in earlier stages of cancer and perhaps in people without melanoma to help them avoid developing tumors.

Moderna was among the first pharmaceutical companies to market COVID-19 vaccines. The company’s method for developing the cancer vaccine was similar to that for developing its COVID vaccine formula.

At the national level, several proposals have been put forward to address the shortage. They include The American Teacher Act. As multiple media outlets have reported, the act is designed to prompt states to set the annual minimum wage for K-12 teachers at $60,000 and make salary adjustments for inflation.

Proposed on Dec. 14, the legislation is pending evaluation from and acceptance by Congress.

In Kansas and Missouri, some schools are holding hiring fairs to address the shortage. Kansas City, Kansas, Public Schools (KCKPS) is among the educational entities that have held hiring fairs this year.

With its recent hiring fair, KCKPS was hoping to fill more than double the amount of openings it usually has. Some jobs can start as early as January.
