It’s not a big holiday in Mexico either, although some Americans might think so. It’s Cinco de Mayo. On Cinco de Mayo, Mexicans commemorate the Battle of Puebla. At the Battle of Puebla, the Mexican army faced and defeated the French army. The battle helped to spark rebellion against the French Intervention in Mexico, which eventually ended in 1867. Everything started when Mexico owed some money to France. France was looking to expand its territory and saw the debt as an excuse to attack and colonize Mexico. French troops arrived in Mexico via Veracruz and were headed from there to Mexico City. However, they were stopped in Puebla, where Mexican troops led by Ignacio Zaragoza defeated the French in May 1862. History books state that Mexico’s army had around 4,500 troops, while the French army had more than 6,500 sol-

We will miss him very much.” Henry retired in 1992 as H&R Block’s CEO and as chairman of the board in 2000. Richard, who survived lung cancer, defying a terminal diagnosis, retired in 1971 to focus on supporting cancer research and education. Among well-known beneficiaries of Marion and Henry’s largesse are the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Saint Luke’s Hospital, Don Bosco Community Center, Donnelly College, the Family Conservancy, Rose Brooks Center and Westside Housing Organization. Marion and Henry donated their personal collection of “priceless” Impressionist and post-Impressionist paintings to the Nelson and funded an $11.7 million renovation. During World War II, Henry distinguished himself as a B-17 navigator. He’d enlisted in the Army Air Forces after the Dec. 7, 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. For his 30-plus missions over Germany, Henry was awarded the Air Medal and three oak leaf clusters. Henry Bloch left his mark on his hometown through his lifeworks – his generous contributions to art, education and health; business students he mentored; and his children. He lived life by these words, “Love others, work hard and do what is right,” his son, Robert said on Monday.

Getting credit cards—and credit card debt—out of your life is a great first step in really learning to behave with your money. Remember, you don’t build wealth or save money by using credit cards. Navarro-Bernachi said the meeting was an opportunity for the Mexican government to explain to entrepreneurs its priorities in terms of the UMSCA trade agreement and investment projects in southeastern Mexico. “What (the government) wants is to promote investors’ interest in investment projects in that area,” he said. Southeastern Mexico — comprised of five states: Yucatan, Campeche, Quintana Roo, Tabasco and Oaxaca — has been traditionally relegated regarding investment projects, said Navarro-Bernachi. By incorporating this part of Mexico into the already existing U.S.-Mexico trade flow, the goal is to create conditions that prevent people from migrating. “Migration has to be an alternative and not a necessity,” he said. The recommendations are part of broader guidelines on physical activity, sleep and sedentary behavior. The guidelines also suggest infants under 1 year old should spend at least 30 minutes a day on their stomachs. Older kids should get at least three hours of physical activity daily. “Early childhood is a period of rapid development and a time when family lifestyle patterns can be adapted to boost health gains,” said Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO director general, in a statement. The guidelines for screen time are like the advice given by the American Academy of Pediatrics, which recommends children younger than 18 months should avoid screens other than using video-chatting apps such as FaceTime. Critics have said the guidelines do not consider the potential benefits of digital media, such as content and context of use. The WHO did not detail the potential harm caused by too much screen time. It said, however, the guidelines were needed to address the increasing amount of sedentary behavior in the general population.

A leader in employee benefits, Unum recently published the report, “Strong Minds at Work,” on the prevalence of mental health issues in today’s workplaces. The research revealed just 25 percent of managers in the U.S. have received training on how to refer employees to mental health resources and more than half of people are unsure how to help a colleague with a mental health issue. “The development, implementation and promotion of mental health strategies has become a top priority for many of today’s employers,” said Michelle Jackson, assistant vice president of market development at Unum. “Creating a workplace culture that promotes mental health resources and encourages employees to take advantage of them helps to destigmatize mental health issues and can lead to a happier, more productive workforce.” Some of the report’s findings include: Fifty-five percent of employees said their employer did not have, or they were unsure if their employer had, a specific program, initiative or policy in place to address mental health. Sixty-one percent of employees felt there’s a social stigma in the workplace toward colleagues with mental health issues; half of them felt the stigma has stayed the same or worsened in the past five years. Among employees with a mental health issue, 42 percent went to work with suicidal feelings. “The fact that such a high percentage of employees have come to work feeling suicidal is troubling,” Jackson said. “While this is certainly a worst-case scenario and employers would hope issues would not progress to this level, it also emphasizes the need to ensure support and resources are understood and readily available in the workplace.” The bulk of mental health resources are usually offered via an employer’s health care provider and can include medical care, an employee assistance program (EAP), counseling referrals and financial and legal counseling. However, employees often don’t fully understand the resources available to them. According to the Unum study, HR professionals said 93 percent of their employers offer an EAP, yet only 38 percent of employees were aware of this resource. Los detenidos no opusieron resistencia y fueron trasladados al ministerio público del estado. 04/31/19 Un policía del Cuerpo de Secuestros y Delitos de Alto Impacto de Puebla murió después de que fuera balaceado afuera de su casa en la Colonia Plan Ayala de la ciudad. Vecinos llamaron a la policía después de escuchar varios disparos. Al llegar al lugar autoridades encontraron el cuerpo sin vida. El paradero del asesino es desconocido y se siguen investigando los hechos. 05/01/19 Autoridades de Chihuahua catearon un domicilio ubicado en en Parral, Chihuahua en donde se denunció que se vendían metanfetaminas. En el lugar se encontraron rastros de varias pipas y artículos que se usaban para la fabricación de metanfetaminas. El lugar se encontraba vacío por lo que se sigue investigando el paradero de los culpables.

There Are Things That You Can’t Forget Hay Cosas Que No Se Olvidan

ay veces en que vas buscando belleza y lo que te encuentras es aún más intenso y poderoso. Eso me pasó en un reciente viaje a Camboya (o Cambodia en inglés). Iba a ver los maravillosos monumentos y templos de Angkor, pero una parada en los llamados “killing fields” — campos de exterminio de la época del Khmer Rouge — cambió totalmente mi percepción del viaje. No había amanecido y ya estaba trepado en un tuk-tuk, una especie de carroza de dos ruedas jalada por una motocicleta. La idea era atrapar la salida del sol en las ruinas del templo budista de Angkor Wat (la ciudad de Angkor fue el centro del imperio Khmer, lo cual duró de 802 a 1431). La historia es fascinante. Pero basta decir que, según las inscripciones en el templo, se construyó con enormes bloques de piedra traídos por más de 50 kilómetros por unos 6 mil elefantes y 300 mil trabajadores. Angkor Wat es, sin duda, una de las maravillas del mundo. Cuando el sol se aparece sobre sus paredes, se convierte en parte de la impresionante arquitectura. Su grandiosidad y dimensión es solo comparable a las obras que nos dejaron los antiguos aztecas, incas, egipcios, griegos y romanos. Pero además tiene el inmenso atractivo de ser totalmente accesible. Los turistas pueden entrar en los mismos lugares donde operaron reyes y religiosos hace siglos, y las pocas zonas prohibidas son generalmente las que están en reconstrucción. El desgaste de paredes y pisos es patente así que no sé cuánto más durará esta política de pasen todos y a ver qué hacemos después. A otro tuk-tuk de distancia estaba el alucinante templo de Ta Prohm, cuyos habitantes dejaron en el siglo 15 por una agobiante y prolongada sequía. Las raíces de enormes árboles literalmente han engullido, durante siglos, paredes y pasillos. Rocas y árboles son una sola obra maestra. A pesar de los millones de turistas que visitan el lugar cada año, te queda la sensación de haber descubierto algo único. A esos lugares me llevó “Y”, un periodista convertido en guía y que comparte con el resto de los camboyanos un genuino orgullo por la majestuosidad de las ruinas de Angkor. Esa mezcla de naturaleza, poderío y ambición arquitectónica es irrepetible. Saben que no hay otro sitio igual en el planeta. Pero Y quería contarme otra historia. No muy lejos de ahí, a las afueras de la ciudad de Siem Reap, estaba uno de los campos donde el brutal tirano Pol Pot había masacrado a miles de personas

exactly what happened to me during a recent trip to Cambodia. I had planned to spend my time exploring the monuments and temples of the ancient city of Angkor, reveling in their breathtaking beauty, but an unexpected visit to the killing fields of the Khmer Rouge changed everything. It was still dark and I was riding in a tuk-tuk,

basically a two-wheeled rickshaw pulled by a motorcycle. My intention was to see the sunrise from the ruins of the ancient Buddhist temple known as Angkor Wat (the city of Angkor served as the capital of the Khmer Empire, which lasted from from 802 to 1431). The history of Angkor Wat is fascinating: It was built with huge stone blocks that were dragged over 30 miles by approximately 6,000 elephants and 300,000 men. Angkor Wat is, without a doubt, one of the great wonders of the world. The sunlight bounces off the temple walls, blending in with the amazing architecture that surrounds you. The magnificence and scale of the site are comparable only to the temple complexes of the ancient Aztec, Incan, Egyptian, Greek and Roman empires. Astonishingly, visitors to Angkor Wat can move freely throughout the complex, which has made it tremendously popular. Tourists can walk through

Abajo y al fondo estaban amontonados restos de brazos y piernas; imposible saber a qué cuerpo pertenecieron. Y tenía razón. Ahí lo entendí todo. Hicimos el recorrido de regreso a mi hotel en total silencio. De hecho, agradecí el aturdidor sonido del tuk-tuk para tratar de procesar lo que acababa de ver. Lo que para mí era sólo la inesperada parte de un tour, había atormentado a Y toda su vida. Nos despedimos con la certeza de que no nos volveríamos a ver. Pero también con esa complicidad que surge cuando alguien te abre los ojos. Vi fijamente a Y, y sus párpados estaban cargados de lágrimas.

The walls and floors look pretty worn down, however, so I don’t know how much longer this policy will prevail. Just a short tuk-tuk ride away is the mind-blowing temple of Ta Prohm. The temple’s inhabitants were driven away in the 14th century by a long and crippling drought; in the intervening years, the roots of enormous trees have grown throughout the temple, swallowing up walls and corridors. The trees and temple stones have come together to form a new kind of architectural masterpiece. Although millions of tourists visit Ta Prohm every year, you still leave thinking you’ve discovered something that no one has ever seen before. My official guide for this adventure was a former journalist calling himself “Y.” Like most Cambodians, he is deeply proud of the majesty of the Angkor ruins, with their unique blend of natural beauty and architectural ambition. Cambodians know very well that there is no place like this anywhere else in the world. But Y wanted to tell me a completely different story about his country. Not far from Angkor, on the outskirts of the city of Siem Reap, was one of the camps where the revolutionary tyrant Pol Pot massacred thousands of his own people between 1975 and 1979. As has been widely documented, up to 2 million people were killed as part of a brutal revolutionary campaign against capitalism. The Khmer Rouge targeted members of the middle class as well city dwellers and anyone with a formal education. Y was 15 years old, he said, when Pol Pot violently seized power. He told me he was separated from his family and only managed to survive the ruthless communist regime by pretending he couldn’t read or write. His father didn’t make it, however; Y never saw him again. “You will understand everything in two minutes,” Y said as we arrived at one of the camps, now a memorial, where his countrymen were massacred. “If you don’t want to see human remains you can stay in the tuk-tuk,” he said. I didn’t stay. I can’t see faraway objects clearly. But as we approached a tower at the camp — roughly 10 feet tall with see-through walls — it became clear that it contained skulls and bones. The skulls were placed one next to the other, in a certain order; some were broken, others were toothless. At the bottom, long bones, maybe from arms and legs, were piled up. It was impossible to tell to whom they had belonged. Y was right. Now I understood. We didn’t say a word on our way back to my hotel. ienvenidos turistas, en esta edición nos toca hablar del país más pequeño del Sudeste Asiático, que además es una de las grandes potencias económicas en el mundo, nos referimos a Singapur. El país se independizó en el año 1965 y cuenta con poco más de 5 millones y medio de habitantes. Existen muchos factores por los cuales Singapur está considerado como uno de los mejores países para visitar y/o vivir en el mundo. Entre los más destacables se encuentra su gran crecimiento tecnológico a tal grado de contar con robots en los hospitales, los cuales ayudan a los médicos en cirugías, a trasportar medicamentos e incluso a interactuar con los pacientes. También existen los taxis autónomos, los cuales te transportan sin la necesidad de un conductor. Además cuenta con 4 idiomas oficiales, lo que facilita el poder comunicarse efectivamente y de manera sencilla con la mayoría de las personas. Los vuelos redondos de Kansas a Singapur tienen un costo promedio de $1,100 y podrás encontrarlos con tan sólo 1 escala. La mejor manera de moverse dentro de la ciudad es en el transporte público. Con este título, el Barcelona sigue en carrera para conseguir el ansiado triplete, ya que aun le queda por disputar la final de la Copa del Rey ante el Valencia y está en semifinales de la UEFA Champions League.

Otro escándalo de abuso doméstico

Tyreek Hill podría ser puesto en la lista restringida por parte del comisionado Roger Goodell luego de que se revelara un audio en donde es acusado de haber abusado de su hijo y de haberle dicho a su prometida, Crystal Espinal, de que debería estar ‘aterrada’ de él.

As multiple news agencies have reported, Hill is being investigated by the authorities over allegations of child abuse involving his son, prompting the Chiefs to forbid him from participating in team offseason activities and leading to speculation about Hill’s future in pro football. And as multiple news agencies have reported, the Chiefs selected Hardman in the NFL rookie draft, held April 25-27 in Nashville, Tennessee. The Chiefs picked the University of Georgia wide receiver and return specialist “as a likely replacement” for Hill, sports journalist Jeff Fedotin speculated in a piece posted Sunday (April 28) online for Forbes magazine. The consensus among football reporters, analysts and commentators is that one reason the Chiefs chose Hardman to possibly replace Hill was Hardman’s speed. Hardman has been clocked in the 40-yard dash

at 4.33 seconds – .08 second behind the time Hill posted in 2016 shortly before the Chiefs drafted him. Should Hardman succeed Hill, he would be part of an offense that led the NFL in several categories in 2018, including total yards for the season (6,810); total points for the season (565); and average points per game (35.3). The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) grants money to investigate and clean up contaminated properties, known as “Brownfields”. At this public meeting, brownfields sites and projects will be selected for assistance with grant funds from EPA grants previously awarded to Kansas City. In addition, updates will be provided for existing Brownfields projects.

The work consists of the following: Replacement of all ceiling tiles and grids in 66 units and all common areas in a four-story low-rise residential building. Project Must meet follow Davis Bacon Wage requirements.

Community participation in this process is highly encouraged. The public is invited to learn, comment and provide input that will help improve grant proposals and assist in decisions that promote the removal of blight and contamination, create healthier places to live, work and play, and create jobs and new economic opportunities.

There will be a Pre-Bid Conference on May 13, 2019 at 10:00 a.m., local time, at the project site, 300 N Chestnut Street, Olathe, Kansas 66061. It is recommended that all interested parties attend this Pre-Bid Conference to view existing conditions.
