Donde se demuestra que, el 34% de los casos de pedofilia, se dan en el entorno familiar: padrastros, padres, hermanos, primos, etc. El 59% se da por parte de aquellos que son conocidos y cercanos a la familia; el 07% se da por parte de extraños y en este se muestra que en los círculos religiosos se da, ¡qué vergüenza!, en una cifra que no alcanza un dígito. Entonces, ¿por qué sólo es noticia cuando la comete un eclesiástico? Vean el sesgo y la pasión con que se juzgan los hechos. Es noticia y de primera página, cuando comete ese abominable crimen un cardenal, un obispo, un sacerdote. Se muestra como disfrutan quienes odian a los sacerdotes y a la iglesia, Como van las cosas, a todos nos meten en el mismo costal y, no es raro que se vaya introduciendo en el colectivo cultural el “odio a los curas” y que por el solo hecho de llevar cuello romano, un fanático se haga célebre matando un “cura”, “estorbo de la humanidad” y una muchedumbre lo aplauda. En nuestra hermosa labor pastoral de evangelización encontramos la miseria humana: casos de desorden de la sexualidad, muchos por cierto, e “in-crescendo”-, violaciones de niñas por sus propios padres y hermanos, desórdenes sexuales inimaginables, etc. ¡No! ¿Qué hacemos los pastores cristianos católicos? Perdonar y absolver en el nombre del Señor. Somos padres, no jueces, todo queda dentro del secreto de la confesión. En nombre del Señor, condenamos el pecado y perdonamos al pecador arrepentido. ¿Cuándo vemos a un clérigo publicando tantas aberraciones? ¡Pobres de nosotros cuando caemos en las manos de quienes nos detestan! Se rasgan las vestiduras. Pregunto: ¿qué entidad o institución está en guerra frontal contra la pedofilia? A nivel interno de las diócesis, se ha establecido un código de menores y cada eclesiástico debe firmar para proteger a los menores a toda costa. En mi diócesis de Kansas City, ya se ha implementado un plan de protección a los menores en cualquiera de los ámbitos parroquiales, con los entrenamientos de Virtus para Clérigos y Laicos en contacto con niños y una oficina que investiga y aclara los casos y las acusaciones para que se puedan llevar a cabo los procedimientos necesarios de hacer justicia en especial a las victimas y de esclarecer la vida de quien se acusa. ¿Qué más podemos hacer?; ¿cámaras secretas?, ¿radares? Este año, el Pontífice eligió a la hermana Eugenia Bonetti, una monja misionera que aboga por las víctimas de la trata de personas. En sus meditaciones, exhortó a la sociedad a pensar en los niños y mujeres que son traficados por traficantes de seres humanos para la extracción de órganos, la explotación sexual o el trabajo forzado. Throughout his papacy, Francis has strongly condemned human trafficking, which he characterizes as “a crime against humanity.” It’s one of his most dedicated causes. He thanked religious congregations for their aid and support for human trafficking victims, and he called attention to the international community’s anti-trafficking initiatives: prevention, protection and prosecution. Human trafficking is a $150 billion industry, according to Fortune (April 14, 2019). It’s a 21st-century global pandemic. Worldwide, there are some 40.3 million victims of human trafficking, estimates the century-old International Labour Organization. It’s here, too. Neither the U.S. nor our metro area is exempt. In 2018, the National Human Trafficking Hotline took a total of 5,147 reports (13 percent more than in 2017); they came from all 50 states. Last month, police in Independence, Mo., arrested 24 people in an undercover human trafficking investigation. In the operation, they rescued four human trafficking victims. “Human trafficking hides in plain sight,” Cindy McCain the widow of the late U.S. Sen. In Kansas, the attorney general’s office is holding training sessions for restaurant and hotel workers on how to spot human trafficking and what to do. The Missouri AG’s office has a comprehensive approach. Attorney General Eric Schmitt created an anti-trafficking enforcement unit; issued new regulations imposing stricter criminal and civil penalties; convened a permanent human trafficking task force; collaborated with law enforcement, victims’ advocates and nonprofits to improve anti-trafficking training; and established a business council against human trafficking. Coding academy hopes to increase diversity in KC tech industry

Prime Digital Academy is a 20-week, fulltime immersion coding bootcamp. Founded in 2014 in Minneapolis, Prime opened a campus in Kansas City earlier this year, hoping to replicate its success in Minnesota. Prime teaches people the skills they need to become software engineers. Rachael Bromander, Prime head of community engagement and KC campus manager, said anyone is welcome to apply, no matter the level of experience or background. Prime is awarding $2,000 diversity scholarships to 10 students to help create a workforce in coding that mirrors the Kansas City community. “As we move into the Kansas City market, we (have) noticed an economic divide in populations that aren’t represented in the tech market in Kansas City,” said Scott Bromander, Prime head of campus development and lead instructor. He said people at Prime acknowledged the lack of diversity in coding positions was a problem and they wanted to be a part of the solution. They hope the scholarships will help. Students are eligible for the scholarship upon admission into Prime Digital Academy. Scholarship requirements involve meeting one of the following criteria: an annual household income of $28,000 or below; identifying as a woman, African American, Asian American/Pacific Islander, Hispanic/Latino and/or Native American/Alaska native descendent; or identifying as a member of the LGBTQ community. Applicants must either be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipient, and a Kansas or Missouri resident. Rachael Bromander said, once the course is over, the academy helps place students in open positions. “The biggest thing we say to people is that we’re here to help,” she said. “It becomes so much bigger than the 20 weeks (of classes).” Prime Digital Academy is accepting applications for its next cohort. The deadline is May 24. The academy has upcoming information sessions — held at 1301 Oak St., No. 102, Kansas City, Missouri — about the program and other services the academy offers.

Before his sentencing, however, Colon is asking a judge to intervene and investigate the alleged inhumane conditions where “El Chapo” is being incarcerated. According to news reports, “El Chapo” lives in a 10-by-8-foot cell with no windows. The drug lord, who has been incarcerated for 27 months, reportedly has no access to fresh air and natural light. In addition, Colon claims the drug lord cannot sleep because of the loud air conditioner in his jail cell. “This deprivation of sunlight and fresh air, over an excessive 27-month period, is causing psychological scarring,” an excerpt of a recent letter from Colon to the judge stated, as cited on CNN’s website. “He is suffering many symptoms of distress as a result of this lengthy unwarranted punishment.” Moreover, Colon claims “El Chapo” has been allowed only 22 small bottles of water over the past six months, while other prisoners have received water bottles at least every other week. Colon is requesting the judge to grant exercise time to his client, allow him to have earplugs and have the same food intake the other inmates have. The drug lord is under more restrictive conditions than other inmates. The conditions have been implemented because the U.S. government wants to prevent him from running a business while he is incarcerated or coordinating an escape. Colon’s request follows a motion filed in March by the drug lord’s legal team to request a new trial and an evidentiary hearing. The prosecutors, however, said they did not see the need to bring back jurors to the court room.

Azar’s drug price controls put Americans patients last

President Trump thinks Americans pay too much for prescription drugs -- and says foreign countries are to blame. That’s why a new initiative from his Department of Health and Human Services is so shocking. HHS Secretary Alex Azar just proposed a major overhaul of Medicare that would impose those socialist price controls here in the United States. Instead of putting America first and forcing other countries to play by the rules, the proposal legitimizes foreign freeloading. The price controls would limit seniors’ access to lifesaving drugs and chill pharmaceutical research efforts. President Trump correctly notes that prescription drugs are more expensive in America. The reason for the price disparity is simple. Nations with socialized medicine, including Canada, the United Kingdom, and France, cap prescription prices. If a drug is too expensive, the government won’t offer it to patients. Once drug companies have developed a medicine, they have a limited amount of time to sell it and recoup their costs before the patent expires. So it makes sense for American drug companies to market their products in pricecontrolled nations, even if that means granting steep discounts. The alternative is earning no foreign revenue at all. As a result, American patients fund the lion’s share of global research and development costs. The HHS proposal wouldn’t rectify this injustice -- it would only further harm American patients. Right now, Medicare drug payments are based on each medicine’s average domestic sales price. Sec. Azar wants to instead index Medicare payments to the average prices paid in 14 other countries. Copying other nation’s socialist price controls would reduce American patients’ access to the latest medicines. Consider treatments for respiratory conditions. All new respiratory drugs released globally in the last seven years are available to Americans. Patients in Japan and France -- two of the reference countries included in Sec. Azar’s pricing index -- can only access 55 percent of those medicines. Domestic price controls would also smother drug innovation, depriving future patients of potentially lifesaving cures. Europe is a cautionary tale. The region led the world in biopharmaceutical R&D investment in the 1980s. But once several nations adopted price control policies, Europe suffered a dramatic decline in research investment. Today, the United States spends 40 percent more on biopharmaceutical R&D than Europe. Sec. Azar’s proposal would reward the forces of socialism abroad and threaten American ingenuity and prosperity at home. Patients can only hope that President Trump orders his HHS secretary to scrap the plan. In some areas of the country, buying a gun is easier than getting a prescription filled, and officials lack the political will to stand up to the National Rifle Association or other groups to restrict their distribution or use.

The ludicrous argument goes something like this: We must fight fire with fire, and weapons with other weapons, even in the classroom. Elected officials don’t dare take the more logical and reasonable step: banning the use of rifles, pistols and other weapons of war. Who came up with the brilliant idea that more weapons somehow equals less violence?

En México el problema es distinto. Hay muchas armas en manos de los cárteles y los criminales — en buena parte, provenientes de Estados Unidos — y no hay ninguna confianza de que la policía o el gobierno federal te puedan proteger. Y si te matan, asaltan o secuestran, es casi seguro que el crimen quedará impune. Vivo en la Florida, un estado donde hay políticos que creen que la mejor forma de enfrentar la violencia por las armas de fuego en las escuelas es darles pistolas a los maestros. That’s why students in the United States now brace themselves for the worst. And when faced with the worst, some students have become heroes, but lost their lives in the process. Kendrick Castillo, 18, lunged at the shooter who burst into the room during his literature class recently at a STEM School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado; Riley Howell, 21, did the same thing, tackling a gunman at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He was shot three times. Both students died. But they probably saved many lives. When threatened by a gunman, a number of police forces in the United States and the Department of Homeland Security itself recommend we do one of three things: First, run; if you cannot run, hide; and if all other options fail, fight. Mexico’s problems with violence stem from different causes and require a very different approach. Criminal gangs have control over some areas of the country; millions suffer under the yoke of poverty and inequality; corruption is rampant. The drug war has been an utter failure. Weapons are smuggled in easily from the United States. In short, the Mexican government is unable to safeguard its people. Even worse, nothing appears to be improving. ienvenidos turistas, en esta edición nos toca hablar de la capital del país sudamericano que es el principal exportador de plátanos en el mundo, además es uno de los países más pequeños del continente americano, nos referimos a San Francisco de Quito, Ecuador. Su formal fundación data del año 1534 y cuenta con 2.7 millones de habitantes mientras que su área metropolitana alcanza a rebasar los 3 millones de habitantes. El país de Ecuador es conocido por ser el primer país en el mundo con todos los “Derechos de la Naturaleza” garantizados en su Constitución, lo cual hace que sea uno de los países con mayor biodiversidad no sólo de América, sino de todo el mundo. Quito fue la primer ciudad en el mundo declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO en el año 1978. Los vuelos redondos de Kansas a Quito tienen un costo promedio de $650 y cuentan con al menos 1 escala. La mejor manera de moverse por todo Quito sin duda es a pie ya que la ciudad tiene grandes atractivos por toda la ciudad, sólo considera caminar despacio ya que debido a la gran altura de la ciudad puedes tener mareos o dolor de cabeza por excederse.
