Lieutenant Governor’s Letter Hello Division 14! What a great start to the service year! The Newsletter will bring you the most important information from The District, and show you what is happening in our Division! If your club takes part in a service event, take a few pictures and let me know! I would love to include it in the next Newsletter so the Division can recognize your excellent work. As I’ve previously mentioned, this year I want to become more involved with the District-wide projects, such as the District Project or the Governor’s Project. You can read more about these on page 8! Our last Divisional was in the beginning of April. I would love to have one to kick off the beginning of the school year! I will be looking at sports schedules as the time draws closer to see when would be a good date. If there are any dates that stick out as bad times, let me know! I hope everyone has a safe and happy summer! Yours in Service Erica Swirsky Lieutenant Governor Division 14

Who is the Lieutenant Governor? My name is Erica Swirsky, and I am going to be a junior at Saranac Lake High School this fall! Since the beginning of my freshman year, service has become a bigger and bigger part of my life. The Lieutenant Governor acts as a liaison to the Division from the District and International Level. I will also try my hardest to connect the clubs and create unity within our Division! One thing I would like to focus on for the rest of the year would be larger service projects, such as the District or Governor’s Project. You can read more about this on page 7.

Division Executive Assistant Ryley Fischer, a junior from Saranac Lake High School, has also been involved with service since the beginning of her freshman Year. You can also email here with any questions at fischerryl@icloud.com

Upcoming Events 

The International Convention starts next Wednesday! (June 5th, 2017) As previously mentioned, it would be awesome to host a Divisional at the beginning of the school year!

June MRF due on July 7th!

ERF due on September 30th!

Recent Events 

Saranac Lake Key Club seniors attended the Kiwanis-sponsored Senior Breakfast Finals week!

Saranac Lake High School: Big Buddy “Big Buddy is one of the most rewarding programs I’ve done during my high school career. I look forward to every time we get together with our little buddies for games and crafts. Not only do we make Big Buddy a thing for Saranac Lake’s youngsters to look forward to, but we also try our best to incorporate service for our community into the activities we do. For instance, one time we painted designs with a glue, when it dried, that would prevent people from slipping in them. We gave them to elderly people at Will Rogers, a local senior residence. Without Big Buddy, I would not have met a majority of the kids I have. I work at Lake Colby, a local beach, and I get to see many of the kids I have met in Big Buddy, already having a connection with them. Big Buddy is very important to me and I am so excited to pick it back up this fall,” - Jenna Morgan, Saranac Lake Junior

How It Works There is a lot of confusion about the breakdown of Key Club, and where your club may fit into the grand scheme of things. Key Club is an internationally recognized organization and is represented in 37 different nations. The diagram below will hopefully put a picture to how it all works. Multiple clubs make up a division, and multiple divisions make up a district. Within all of the nations participating in Key Club, there are many districts. Our district is the New York District Key Club, or NYDKC. Key Club is much bigger than you think! Division

District Project The District voted and it was decided that Sunrise

Day Camp would be this year’s District Project! Sunrise Day Camp is a project that gives children with cancer a chance to laugh without stress, completely free of charge. And since this is a day camp, patients are still able to continue their treatment. There are currently three camps located in New York (Long Island, Pearl River, Staten Island). You can check out their website here and donate here.

Governor’s Project District Governor Gavin Li has decided that this year’s Governor Project will be The Honeybee Conservancy! As you may know, the bees are dying at an alarming rate. This organization stands to help rebuild the population. The Conservancy builds Bee Sanctuaries that schools, clubs, or people can adopt. You can visit their website here and donate here.

International Convention The International Convention is just days away! The convention will officially start on 7/5/17, but the New York District departs this Sunday, on 7/2/17. At the convention, Key Clubbers from around the world will be able to talk and learn more about service and the best ways to provide it. I could not be more excited to be attending! You can view the Candidate Packet here. “So excite d to see everyone and mak e new frien ds!”-Sherr y Yu, Distric t EA

Summer is Here! As you all may know, Key Club can be a challenge in the summer. In Division 14, we deal with a lot of geographical challenges. But, Key Club can still be alive and thriving in the summer! It would be super awesome if your Key Club could hold at least one service opportunity this summer! Here are some suggestions for summer service events: 

Lemonade sale to benefit this year’s District or Governor’s project Volunteering at your local summer youth program Cleaning up the local beach/a highway

Also, we live in a very unique part of the world! Be sure to take advantage of this and go on a hike, kayak in our beautiful lakes, or relax on the beach with an ice cream cone.
