Lieutenant Governor’s Letter Hello Division 14! I hope everyone had a safe and happy Halloween! The weather is finally cooling down and we are seeing Fall! The Early Bird Dues due date has passed and all dues that have not been turned in yet will be due on December 1st. Please be sure to get these in on time! Election Report Forms are past due. These were due on September 30th, so if you have not turned this in, please do so! It is very important that this gets done, so we have the correct officer information for each club. It does not take very long to do. Lastly, a huge thank you to everyone that came to Fall Rally! It was a huge success and a wonderful experience. I am so grateful for all of the hours members put in! Thank you so much! Yours in service, Erica Swirsky, Lieutenant Governor

Fall Rally “Fall Rally is definitely something I would recommend people participate in, regardless of your position in Key Club. It’s a fun experience that allows you to connect with other people with similar interests in community service as you! The event seems professional and serious upon hearing it, but in reality it’s a blast. We played Kahoot while jamming to some sick beats, surrounded by a pile of snacks. What could be more fun? The energy was contagious and truly inspired me to do more for our club” - Karina Garcia, Saranac Lake High School

Service Spotlight “The dinner at the Adult Center was a community held dinner for those involved in the Adult Center. The Key Club of SLHS helped serve dinner to the community. My friend Ethan and I served food to one table, while the other students served other tables. We served them lasagna for dinner and cake for dessert, then we cleared all their dishes for them. I really liked working at the Adult Center Dinner because, I enjoy volunteering in my community. Also the people were all really nice and I know it means a lot to them that we volunteer to do this. - Hannah Brogan, Saranac Lake

Leadership Training Conference What: Leadership Training Conference (LTC) When: March 23rd—March 25th, 2018 Where: The Desmond Hotel in Albany Theme: Birthday Bash! What is the LTC? The LTC is when hundreds of Key Clubbers from all over the New York District gather to celebrate a year of service and learn more about leading and serving. It is an amazing experience! This beautiful graphic was made by Eva Reese, Division 2 LtG

District Project This year’s District Project is Sunrise Day Camp. Sunrise Day Camp is a project that gives children with cancer a chance to laugh without stress completely free of charge. And since this is a day camp, patients are still able to continue their treatment. There are currently three camps located in New York (Long Island, Pearl River, Staten Island). You can check out their website here.

Governor’s Project This year’s Governor Project is The Honeybee Conservancy! As you may know, the bees are dying at an alarming rate. This organization stands to help rebuild the population and educate the population about what a danger the loss of bee could be. The Conservancy builds Bee Sanctuaries that schools, clubs, or people can adopt. You can visit their website here. Note: Please do not send money directly to these organizations. Instead, please send them to District Administrator John Goldstein at 590 Mullock Road, Port Jervis, NY 12771. Included with your check, please send a note stating which charity your check is for. Checks should be made out to Mr. Goldstein and your club name and Division should be included. A big check will be presented to the organizations at the LTC!

HALO The Halo Movement and Key Club have partnered up to recognize leaders among the Key Club community. Members could be recognized for a service project or fundraiser, and the top 10 recognized clubs will receive a grant for $2,500. Application is open to November 30th, and you can learn more about it here.

UNICEF Key Club International is partnered with UNICEF for the Eliminate Project. The project’s main target is to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus, a possibly deadly disease, worldwide. Trick or Treat for UNICEF funds this project, and so far, since the partnership began, we have raised more than 7 million dollars through Trick or Treat for UNICEF. Good work Key Clubbers!

Monday: Show Your K! Spread the awareness by wearing your favorite Key Club merchandise, like a t-shirt! Tuesday: Kudos to the KEY Players! Personally give thanks to all of the outstanding teachers, advisors, and members you know involved with service and Key Club! Wednesday: Dare to Care! Conduct a service project for one of Key Club’s preferred charities: UNICEF, March of Dimes, or Children’s Miracle Network Thursday: Random Acts of Kindness! Challenge each member of your club to complete one act of kindness, such as leaving positive notes on lockers! Friday: Connect the K! Get involved with one of the other branches of the Kiwanis Family!

Kiwanis Family Month The Kiwanis family includes clubs for every age and ability. In November, we celebrate Kiwanis Family Month—taking time to appreciate each other and create a bond with the other clubs nearby. Reach out and share your love of Kiwanis with a fundraiser, service project or shared activity! Here are a few ideas: 

Attend a Kiwanis meeting Random Acts of Kindness! Write Kiwanis or Club advisors kind notes, or thank them for all that they do Conduct a collaborative service project, such as a road or park cleanup, make no sew blankets or nonslip socks, or co-host a pancake breakfast for a cause!

It’s important to remember that relations with the other branches of the K Family do not end once November is over! Keep your ties strong all year long!

Service Project Ideas Here are some really simple service project ideas that every club can do! They come at little to no cost!

No Sew Blankets

YUDA Bands (more information here)

Shovel driveways for the elderly

Host a carnival/game night for the elementary school! 

This could be super simple! Kids love snacks, bingo, scavenger hunts...the possibilities are endless and do not have to be extravagant!

Charge people a small fee to challenge another student to eat a slice of a lime! Proceeds for the Pediatric Lyme Disease

Make cookies for the teacher’s lounge!
