Udder Comfort Spray Gun Demonstration LINGEN DAIRY, Balaton, Minnesota Milking 250 cows — RHI 31,500 SCC 120,000 Lingen Dairy, Balaton, Minnesota, hosted a lunchtime demonstration of the ‘udderly innovative’ Udder Comfort™ Spray Gun system, attended by 25 people from 12 dairies ranging 80 to 800 cows. They came to see it, try it, and hear about it from Josh Lingen and visiting dairyman Chuck Worden of Cassville, NY. He developed the 0 to 100 in 7 days protocol, where fresh cows and heifers in his 260-cow herd get a fast, minimal application of Udder Comfort, through the spray gun, for the first 7 days post-calving. “We have reduced SCC to be consistently below 200,000 for the first time in our 30-plus years of dairying. We have Hispanic milking employees and family members milking, and everyone finds the gun easy to use, fast, effective, and conserves product use,” said Worden. “We focus on the 3-legged stool: healthy uterus, healthy rumen, and a healthy udder is where comfort really matters. A little Udder Comfort goes a long way.”
“Our bonuses more than pay for the product to achieve it,” added Josh Lingen. The 250 cow herd makes 94 to 100 lbs/cow/day with SCC of 120,000. Cows are milked by robot but fresh cows are started in the parlor, where they use the Udder Comfort Spray Gun, spraying fresh udders after each milking for the first 3 to 7 days. Josh loves it: “The application is easy, and we use 30% less product for the same coverage,” he confirms.
