Our friend and fellow World Dairy Expo Executive Committee member, Mike Hellenbrand, passed away July 1 after a 15-month courageous battle with cancer. For the last decade, we’ve been and are grateful that Mike gave his financial expertise and guidance freely as Vice President of the Board and when serving on the Executive, Finance and Ethics Committees and Co-Chair of the Pavilion Building Committee. We’ll miss his leadership at the Board table; we’ll miss seeing him in the beautiful Pavilions he helped design; youth will miss his mentorship and providing animals for the showring; and everyone will miss the contribution his Hillpoint prefix has made to the improvement of all breeds. We were fortunate to have known him, debated with him and shared his passion to make World Dairy Expo the best it can be.

State Hill Ivanhoe Delia 6E-92 at 19-05 yrs. Delia was the 2nd 6E cow of the breed. The first 6E cow was Miss Ivanhoe Scranton, All-American Aged Cow. Delia was in our herd until she was 20. She was bred & owned by Riegel Bros, Sinking Springs, PA. 3. Whiskey Run Ozzie 2E-91 at 13 yrs. Bred by Russell Bear, Jr, Newville, PA. Purchased from J. Z. Nolt & Pete Blodgett, Iola, PA. 4. Irene Triumph Ivanhoe 3E-90 at 15-11 yrs. Bred & owned by Clarence Martin, Lancaster, PA. Delia, Ozzie & Irene were purchased privately by Jay Howe, a young, energetic Director of Promotion for the Pennsylvania Holstein Association. Our cows were pastured for 6 months. Never had a hoof trimmer on the farm! Lifetime production for the 4 cows averaged 200,000 lbs. None had a single lactation over 20,000 lbs milk. I’m nearly 80 years old. I had triple-bypass heart surgery 25 years ago, and I’m also diabetic. So I’m among the most vulnerable for the virus. I’m crippled with arthritis in my back, partly from milking cows for 65 years. But I wouldn’t have traded my occupation for anything!
