Precision from Italy B.M. di Belluzzo S.r.l. in Pianezza near Turin are well-known for the high degree of precision of their products and for their innovative customer solutions. The company has relied on EROWA products for 30 years. We spoke with the company founder’s son, Inginiere Andrea Belluzzo, who leads the enterprise together with his sister Nicoletta Belluzzo.

EROWA: Signor Belluzzo, please give us some key data about your company.

Andrea Belluzzo: My father set up the firm in 1975; today we employ 30 people. We are engaged in mold manufacture, where we develop and produce molding tools for sintering and sheet forming.

Also, we manufacture multiple injection molds for the medical and pharmaceutical industries. Furthermore, we produce components for motor racing, for aviation and aerospace, as well as for the telecommunications industry. We make these products for customers all over Europe. Also, we cooperate with Italian research institutes.

That’s a wide range of activities and products. So what is the common denominator?

We use the latest technologies everywhere. What’s also common to all activities are continual and meticulous checks. We offer state-of-the-art solutions, tested and certified products of the highest quality across the board.

All these are great products, with which we are very satisfied.

But we mustn’t forget that the software which controls the facilities is of at least equal importance. Without an intelligent data exchange, there’s nothing doing. A quick and reliable manufacture of products in the quality we require is only possible with well-thought-out production processes. And this is where EROWA’s process control systems are a great help to us.

So you’re satisfied with those, too?

Well, the introduction of process control systems is always a challenge, and we had to adapt and modify established modes of operation. But we received good support and now we profit a great deal from it.

How important is the aspect of automation in your business model, then?

That’s difficult to say. You see, there’s an extreme amount of know-how and also a great deal of craftsmanship in our products because the tools are one-off parts, as it were. But only if we’re able to automate and multiply this craftsmanship are we fast enough to be competitive.

Therefore I can genuinely say that we owe our production processes and our competitiveness not least to EROWA, for we’re in a position to react to different order situations in next to no time.

Automation also has its price, though…

That’s correct. However, we don’t primarily sell through the price but through sustainable, durable and reliable quality. And customers are prepared to pay for this. In the medium and long term, low-cost suppliers don’t stand a chance in our industry since they never reach the required level of quality.

The common denominator which characterizes our products is the highest possible degree of automation of the various manufacturing processes.

And this is where EROWA comes into it. B.M. di Belluzzo has relied on our products for 30 years. How did that start?

I can’t even tell you anymore. Of course EROWA is well-known in the segment in which we work. In any case the first products were ITS chucks and electrode holders for EDM sinking processes.

And afterwards a whole range of EROWA products and systems was added little by little, right?

Right. This starts with the tooling systems (ITS 50, ITS 148 and UPC), which provide us with a high degree of consistency on all the machines. Then we have EROWA measuring stations (PreSet 2D und CMM Qi), which are equipped with EROWA interfaces. In-process control is very important to us. We also have a Robot Compact to load the YASDA YMC 430 milling machine, and another Robot Compact, which loads both the CMM Qi measuring station and a Makino EDM sinking center, and finally we have a Robot Multi, which serves a YASDA YBM 950V and a YASDA YBM Vi40.
