AVEIRO Aveiro is an industrial city with an important seaport. It is located close to the Atlantic shore and it's surrounded by a large lagoon (Ria de Aveiro), numerous beaches, salt marshes and salt pans. Due to its individual characteristics (for example, it has a major canal running through the city and a series of traditional boats, Moliceiros, that allow tourists to see Aveiro from a different perspective) this gorgeous city is also known as “The Portuguese Venice”. For those who appreciate good food, there is the opportunity of tasting the delicious eel stew (caldeirada de enguias) and a variety of sea and lagoon fish soups. However, if you are more of a sweet-tooth, you should definitely try Ovos Moles and Tripas. The abundance of the typical 19th-20th century architectural style buildings reflects the construction boom of that period, including many of the Art Novo and Art Deco buildings, inspired by modernist trends and Nation Nationalistic tendencies of the Estado Novo regime.

ARRIVING IN AVEIRO By car If you are coming from the North on the A1 highway, you should follow the exit to the A25 connecting to Aveiro. There are two exits from the A25 into the city: Aveiro-Norte, and a few kilometers ahead, Aveiro. The most advisable is the latter, since it's the closest to the campus. Coming from the South by the A1, exit in Aveiro-Sul / Águeda (exit 15) and follow the EN235 to the campus. By train Aveiro is serviced by the main railway in the country (Northern Line). Information on train schedules are available on the website of CP Trains of Portugal (www.cp.pt). The train station is marked on the map.
