PRACTICAL INFORMATION

ONLINE SIGN UP

You can register online at

www.marbella4dayswalking.com.

You will receive your participant number by email. Take this proof of registration, either printed or on your mobile phone, to the registration stand. There you will receive your participation ticket in the form of a wristband with electronic chip.

OFFLINE SIGN UP

You can still register in the registration tent on Wednesday, 5th of October between 10 and 16 hrs. From Thursday to Sunday, you can register between 8 and 16 hrs. Keep the starting times in mind if you want to walk on the same day. On Wednesdays, you can count on the help of our self-sign-up assistants between 10 and 16 hrs to register online on the spot.

1, 2, 3, OR 4 DAYS

When you register, you determine how many days you walk. Only the participants who walk 4 days and finish on time every day (before 16 hrs!) will receive a medal on Sunday.

DISTANCES

When you register, choose the distance you want to walk, 10, 20 or 30 kilometres. Do you want to change your distance during the event? That is possible, but please change this in the registration tent. For safety reasons we need to know how many people are walking on the different routes.

START & FINISH

• Start 30 km: 08.30 - 09.00 hrs • Start 20 km: 09.00 - 09.30 hrs • Start 10 km: 10.00 - 10.30 hrs • Finish closes at 16.00 hrs

SIGNAGE

All routes are indicated by recognizable M4DW route signs with coloured arrows.

• 10 km: yellow • 20km: green • 30km: blue

In the M4DW App, you can see the route you will walk every day and where you are exactly on this route.

CHECKPOINTS

You will pass checkpoints along the way where your wristband will be scanned. There is 1 checkpoint on the 10 km route, 2 on the 20 km route and 3 checkpoints on the 30 km route. There are also toilets, and bottles of water are handed out.

• Checkpoint 1 (10, 20 & 30 km): 13 hrs • Checkpoint 2 (20 & 30 km): 15 hrs • Checkpoint 3 (30 km): 14.30 hrs

M4DW APP

On the Marbella 4Days Walking App, designed by main sponsor Ilionix, you can see the route you choose to walk every day. Your friends and family anywhere in the world can follow you too. All the latest news about the event is found here. And you can immediately contact the organization via the emergency button and indicate your location.

You can download the App for free in the Google Play Store and the Apple Store.

FOOD & DRINKS

Always bring a bottle of water and a snack for the road. At various points on the route, there are stands where you can buy something to eat and drink. You can also recharge your batteries at various bars and restaurants.

SAFETY ON THE ROAD

There are two Safety & Support teams on the road daily to assist walkers where necessary.

Ambulance

In addition, there is an ambulance on the route and one on standby at the Walking Village (Plaza del Mar).

Traffic

You are walking on public roads where there is other traffic, so stay on the sidewalk or walk on the side of the road that goes against the traffic (that way they see you coming and you see them). At difficult crossings the police is present. Follow their directions and those of M4DW volunteers.

ASSISTANCE & AMBULANCE

There is a tent for health care and an ambulance on the Plaza del Mar. In case of a need for medical assistance, the ambulance will take you to a nearby hospital.

ENVIRONMENT

At all checkpoints there are bins for regular waste and for recycling plastic. In addition, you can dispose of your waste in the containers located in the residential areas’ streets. The yellow containers are for plastic, the blue for paper, the green for glass and the grey for residual waste.

Smoking

Keep your smoking breaks in places with an ashtray. For the disposal of cigarette butts in nature, sky-high fines are issued, not only because it is waste but also because of the risk of fire.

Urinating in public

According to local regulations, urinating in public spaces is not allowed. There are toilets at the checkpoints, and in Spain, it is also allowed to use the restroom without consumption, although bar owners would prefer that you enjoy a drink on their terrace.

Take note!

A walker seen by someone from the organization disposing waste on the street or in nature will be banned from participating in the event.

INSURANCE

Make sure your insurance covers medical assistance. In principle, the ambulance will take you to a public hospital. If you have private insurance, you can check in advance which private hospitals are covered by your policy.

VIA GLADIOLO

On Sunday, before you finish, you will pass the arch of Via Gladiolo. The gladiolus is the Roman symbol of victory: you made it! Friends, family and the team of M4DW welcome you there with music and gladiolus. From there, it’s just a little bit more to the finish. You will receive a medal there when you’ve completed the four days!

CHARITY

The organization of Marbella 4Days Walking has selected two charities to collaborate with. This year, volunteers from the Red Cross and CUDECA, a hospice for cancer patients and their families, will also be present. They have a special tent in the Walking Village to raise awareness for their work and raise funds.

WHAT TO WEAR

Wear suitable socks and shoes and consider various weather conditions, including rain. A hat or cap is not excessive and please, do not forget to apply sunscreen! The sun can still be quite powerful.

(semi) Nude only on the beach

You are expected to be dressed appropriately on terraces, squares and streets. Therefore, also at our Walking Village. The police can issue significant fines for not wearing a shirt or top unless you are on the beach.

THE WRISTBANDS

Everything will go even more efficient this year with the 4Days wristbands. What is what? A modern system for walkers and partygoers. We also use wristbands for contactless payments.

WALKING

The colour of your wristband indicates the distance of your walking route. The chip in this wristband is scanned at the start, checkpoints and finish. These scanners will only read the chip for walking.

• Yellow: 10 kilometres, 4 days • Green: 20 kilometres, 4 days • Blue: 30 kilometres, 4 days • Red: all distances, 1 day.

PARTY

After 18.00 hrs anyone wearing a white or purple wristband is welcome to continue the party in the Fiesta Village.

• White: white party on Wednesday the 5th of October + payment system for 5 – 9 October • Purple: 4 days of partying + payment system for October 5 – 9. PAYMENT

At the tents on the square you can only pay with your wristband. You can pick up this wristband and link it to your account in the Bracelit App or activate it at the Payment Wristband desk.

Fast & Easy

Paying for your drinks, food and M4DW products at the Walking & Fiesta Village on the Plaza del Mar this year is contactless; safe, easy and fast. You can pay during the day and the evening with the Bracelit chip in your special wristband that you can pick up at the ‘payment wristbands’ tent.

How does it work?

• The chip in your payment wristband is linked to a secure payment app where you get your own personal page with login codes. • You can connect your debit or credit card or put an amount from your bank account on your wristband. • OR you have your balance topped up with your debit, credit or with cash by the staff at the payment wristbands desk • To pay, the staff will scan your wristband and the amount approved by you will be automatically debited • In your account you can, in realtime, see exactly how much you have spent where and when. • Please note the staff’s scanners can only read the payment chip via the wristband and can’t accept any other form of payment.

Lost your wristband or have questions?

If you lose your wristband, you can cancel it immediately in the App on your mobile phone. You can collect a new one at the Payment Wristband Desk. You can also contact Bracelit Support if you have any questions.
