Tiger Switches to TaylorMade T

aylorMade Golf Company, maker of the most-played driver on the PGA TOUR for 16 years and counting and an industry leader in product innovation and technology, has announced that a multi-year contract has been reached with one of the most accomplished athletes in history, Tiger Woods. Tiger will play TaylorMade’s driver, fairway woods, irons and wedges. The signing is a definitive move by the company that reaffirms its ongoing commitment to fielding the strongest Tour staff in the industry and putting the highest performing equipment in the hands of the best players in the world. Tiger’s accolades are well documented since first turning professional in 1996 at the age of 20. The 14-time major championship winner holds countless amateur and professional records on the PGA TOUR that place him among the game’s alltime greats

and have cemented his legacy as one of the greatest athletes of all time in any sport. The eleven-time PGA TOUR Player of the Year will play TaylorMade metalwoods, irons and wedges as part of his club contract, with specific product models to be determined at the conclusion of Woods’ and TaylorMade’s extensive testing process. Further, Tiger will co-create with TaylorMade’s club engineers and have an integral role in the design and development of a new, personalised iron model that will make its debut in Tiger’s bag at a future date to be determined. “Throughout my career, I’ve always been meticulous about my equipment. Over the past few months, I’ve had clubs from every brand sent to me to test. When it came to making a final decision, the choice was easy—it all came down to performance, which is why I chose TaylorMade.” Tiger’s history with the brand goes back to his days as the world’s top amateur, when he played TaylorMade metalwoods in his victories at both the 1994 and’95 U.S. Amateur Championships in addition to multiple other junior and professional tournaments on Tour. “Our product teams at TaylorMade have a singular focus – to create the best performing golf equipment in the world. We are thrilled that Tiger has chosen to play TaylorMade. His impact on the game of golf is undeniable and we are honoured to have him part of our team,” said David Abeles, CEO, TaylorMade Golf Company www.taylormadegolf.com

Making Your Mind Up! Y

es, this classic, Eurovision song title from Bucks Fizz couldn’t be more relevant to golf! How many times have you set up over a shot and not felt quite right or had an element of doubt about your decisions, but thought ‘I’ll hit it anyway’? After the resulting poor shot (quelle surprise!) you turn to your playing partners and state, ‘I knew I was going to do that’! Be honest … we’ve all done it! The answer … You probably know that too! If you do, listen to yourself … if not … Reset! Start your pre shot phase again and this will present you with the best chance of a good shot phase and the result you think you deserve. Complete the post shot phase and you’re done! Make and commit to your decisions ‘pre shot’. If you don’t feel 100% about ‘the shot’, simply RESET!

Once you’ve hit the shot, accept the outcome during the ‘post shot’ phase and then go through your three phases, pre shot, shot, post shot once more.

For full details of how the three phases of golf can work for you, then contact us direct or book a ‘Play Your Best Golf ’ session at your own club or attend one of our highly successful Mind Zone Masterclass sessions. www.themind-zone.com

Garon Park Golf Complex Nominate HARP to be Their ‘Charity of the Year’!

G

aron Park Golf Complex in Southend have nominated HARP as their ‘Charity of the Year’ and hope to raise money through a variety of fundraising events throughout 2017. Representatives recently visited the Southend based homeless charity who support hundreds of local homeless people each year. Debbie Wood, Eddie Hicks, Terry Whiteman and Graham Purser, all members at Garon Park Golf Complex spent time at HARP’s day centre in York Road with CEO Gill Garwood to learn more about the charity and see first-hand some of their work. At the heart of HARP, the Bradbury Centre is the first point of contact for anyone facing homelessness or sleeping rough. Each morning volunteers prepare breakfast that is served with hot drinks and a smile. Those visiting the centre can also use the shower facilities and staff are on hand to give advice and support. The neighbouring emergency night shelter also offers a safe and warm place to sleep for 18 people every night, people that might otherwise be sleeping rough.

The golf club works hard every year to not just provide a fantastic array of events and activities for its members but to also create an opportunity for the club to give something back to its local community, and HARP are thrilled to be the beneficiaries of this year’s efforts. Lisa Walton, Community Fundraiser at HARP said “We can’t wait to see fundraising activities quite literally swing into action. It is wonderful to know that vital funds are being raised this year by people doing something that makes them happy, keeps them fit and most importantly brings people together for a fantastic cause. We would love to hear from other sports clubs that would like to follow in Garon Park Golf Complex’s footsteps and hold a fundraising event for us and make a positive change in their community simply by doing something they love!” For more information about HARP or to find out how you can hold a fundraising event contact them on 01702 615 834.

New Hall Golfer’s County Selection K

eelan Robinson, a Year 8 student at New Hall School in Chelmsford, has been selected to join the U13/U14 Essex County Golf Coaching Squad for 2017. Keelan trains regularly with the successful New Hall Golf Academy and is a member of the school’s junior golf team. New Hall’s senior golf team recently won the Essex Schools Golf Championship and will now go on to represent Essex in the National Schools Finals later this year. The tough and competitive trials for the Essex squad were acknowledged as being particularly difficult this year, so Keelan has worked extremely hard for his place. Good luck to Keelan in his training and development with the squad in 2017! New Hall School provides excellent facilities and training for budding sports stars, alongside its successful academic programme and fantastic music and performing arts provision. The

boarding and day school for students aged 3-18 has a Catholic foundation and ethos, which welcomes those from all backgrounds. The strong pastoral care structure at the school supports students in their endeavours, allowing them to achieve success in a wide variety of fields.

Captain Chris

C

hris Cutchie, one of the two joint head professionals at Colchester Golf Club, has recently been voted in as captain of the Essex Professional Golfers Association. Cutchie started his golfing life as a twelve-year-

old at Colchester Golf Club, now some eighteen years later via work experience in the USA, and college in Texas, he is a PGA qualified professional at the Club, a role he shares with Mark Baker, who was also a scion of the Junior Section. Cutchie said, “I am honoured to have the captaincy of the Essex PGA for 2017, to represent the Essex golf professionals within our industry, is a task that I will not take lightly.” Certainly, he has a number of roles to undertake not least of which is that he will host the Essex Open on the 11th of May at Colchester Golf Club, which will be preceded by a Pro-Am on the 10th. The club wishes this popular professional all the best in his year, and he assures everyone that he will continue to devote his time in enhancing the standards of golf at the club both at junior and senior levels.

START WAKING UP YOUR GAME AND GETTING READY FOR THE YEAR! N

ot long now and hopefully the weather will start to warm up, the courses will start to dry out, things will be on the up and getting out on the course will be a much more pleasant thing to do.. Below are some ideas you can think about to ensure you are prepared for the new season. SET SOME GOALS - Set some achievable goals this year. Maybe aim for your best score, improve your handicap, play some courses you haven’t played before or even take the money from a friendly rival! GET THE CLUBS READY- Hopefully you have had your clubs fitted and even if you have you have ensure your grips are in good conditon and have the loft and lies checked. Consult your PGA Pro to see if your clubs are ready for the new season. CHECK YOUR SET-UP – Good golf always starts with a good set-up. Ensure you check your grip, aim, stance and posture as they are so important and can slip over the off the season. WORK ON SHORT PUTTS INDOORS - If you have a suitable bit of carpet or a putting matt. Start working on your putting stroke and

short putts. Pay particlar attention to your putter face alignment. GET YOUR PGA PRO'S FEEDBACKA good way to start the year is to have a session with your pro. Discuss what you want to acheive, what you feel you need to do and get his feedback.

PING Introduces Glide 2.0 Wedges P

recision-milled faces with sharper groove edges than any previous PING wedge model dramatically increase spin rates and trajectory control in the new Glide 2.0 wedges, leading to more precise short-game performance from all conditions, PING announce. “The new Glide 2.0 wedges represent a major breakthrough in performance for a number of reasons, but it’s the new grooves that are most

exciting,” said John A. Solheim, PING Chairman & CEO. “As many golfers are aware, we have a lot of knowledge and experience when it comes to evaluating and designing grooves. We worked closely with our tour staff to improve every aspect of the wedges. The players have been very pleased with the increase in spin rates, overall trajectory control, including lower ball flights, and the consistency of the carry distances. Around the greens, they’re impressed with the turf interaction and how the ball is reacting off the face to give them the precision they need to hit it closer. “They’ve also commented how much they appreciate the refined, compact look. When you set the club down — whether it’s a full swing or a touch shot around the green — you’re confident you can play the shot. Plus, the feel and sound are incredible,” Solheim said. “Most of our tour players, including Bubba Watson and Louis Oosthuizen, have already converted to the new wedges. Together with the multiple sole grind options, the new Glide 2.0 wedges offer all golfers a tremendous opportunity to improve their short games.” An extremely precise wheel-cut milling process developed by PING’s engineering and manufacturing teams enables grooves with a sharper edge radius, which increases interaction with the cover of the ball at impact, creating more friction for improved spin and trajectory control. The grooves in the lower-lofted wedges (46°, 50° & 52°) are milled with a 20° sidewall and a .005” edge radius for optimal full-shot performance. The higher-lofted versions (54°, 56°, 58° & 60°) - 22 -

are milled to a .004” edge radius and a 28° sidewall to impart more spin, especially around the greens. By spacing the precision-milled grooves closer together, PING’s engineers designed the lowerlofted options with one additional groove (compared to the original Glide wedge) to increase spin and control on full shots. The higher-lofted versions feature two more grooves for more spin on chip and pitch shots. In testing, Tour players are seeing spin-rate increases of 1,000-1,500 rpm on partial shots (40 to 70 yards) and gains of more than 500 rpm on full shots when compared to their current wedges. The soft, 431 stainless steel heads are distinguished by a hydropearl chrome finish, which adds a new level of performance by repelling moisture for reduced sole friction. The lead edges and sole grinds have been carefully crafted for exceptional surface interaction and versatility, gliding through the turf and sand to enable creativity and shot making.

IT’S A RACE THE HANDLE MUST WIN O

ver the previous few issues we have been working on creating more power through the lever system, and finally we arrive just before delivery as the energy is starting to release from its stored position. Picture 1. In our ideal impact we require the shaft to be leaning forward, as in Picture 1 this creates stability on off centre hits as it is a pulled force, the clubface is de lofted and will add some yards, the shaft is still loaded and will give energy to the ball. It is now a race to impact and it is imperative

the handle wins this. Picture 2. Here it is important to understand speed is your friend not an enemy. The only way the handle can beat the clubhead to impact is that it accelerates past the ball. Any deceleration from the body or arms at this point will create a weak impact demonstrated in Picture 3 where the club head has won the race. The shaft is leaning back, loft is added to the club face and the shaft is dead. “Speed is your friend”

Have fun Gary

NEW YEAR NEW YOU? F

irstly, Happy New Year! At this time of year everyone is making their New Years resolutions or breaking them, one way or another! Did you make any resolutions regarding your Golf this year? If so in this article I am going to talk about my top 4 tips to be a better golfer ... GO TO THE GYM! The most common thing i hear from a golfer re using the gym is “golf isn’t a sport”. This could not be further from the truth, golfers are very much athletes and should start treating their bodies this way. Functional training including core work, postural work and strength work, stretching and mobilising will help your golf so find yourself a good, qualified trainer to help you. GET TREATED 90% of the golfers i meet have an untreated injury. Back pain, shoulder injury, knee pain, hip pain and much more. What baffles me is most of that 90% do not get this treated! I hear golfers say things like “back pain just comes with

golf ”. This is not true, golf is a very demanding sport and the body over time, gets tired, very tight and needs some help! Find yourself a good osteopath and sports massage therapist and have regular treatments. I can highly recommend and osteopath and sports massage therapist, so feel free to contact me and I am happy to pass on details. FUEL RIGHT Start feeding your body right. Nutrition plays a huge part in golf performance. Balancing the blood sugar levels and being in the best shape you can be will improve your golf tremendously. The body is like a car, put the right fuel in, at the right times and at regular intervals and it will go a long way. Put the wrong fuel in, let the tank run empty and do this regularly enough and the car will break down, start to age prematurely and not get very far at all. MAKE GOALS Make some goals for 2017, what you want to achieve this year, how you want to improve and courses you want to play. Fail to plan, plan to fail. Goal setting can be really motivational and make a lot of people work much harder and can also help motivate you to stick to a routine. Any questions or advice needed feel free to contact me, I’m happy to help!

Looking Forward to a Bright New Future O

pening its doors to new opportunities, Channels in Little Waltham near Chelmsford is undergoing a major restructure which will include investment into its 9-hole golf course known as Little Channels, wedding venue, hotel and restaurant operation as well as opening up the 300 acre parkland estate to golfers and the growing local community. The new plans will see the 15th century 4-star Gold Award Channels Lodge - an exclusive boutique hotel with 17 beautifully decorated rooms, a greater focus on the restaurant operation, and a commitment to building on an already matchless reputation as one of the best venues and

golf amenities in Essex. The popular Channels Bar & Brasserie will become a destination restaurant with an expanded menu serving home cooked and locally sourced food, and private dining rooms for tailor-made events. In addition, a landscaping project at the rear of the restaurant will create a courtyard and bucolic gardens for alfresco dining. “We are looking forward to hosting beer and music festivals and craft and Christmas markets. It’s our ambition to collaborate with and support nearby local businesses,” says Richard Stubbings, the current owner of Channels and third generation of the Stubbings family.

“We are also committed to strengthening our golfing credentials with improvements to Little Channels and the Golf School and extensive teaching programmes there,” he continued. LITTLE CHANNELS By bringing accessible golf and social facilities to its neighbours, the team at Little Channels is hoping to offer great golf facilities and teaching programmes and amenities that can be enjoyed by the whole family. Long before golf was played among the rolling hills of Little Waltham, Little Channels was a working farm. The creation of the golf course and sympathetic restoration of the original mid-19th century barn conversion by the Stubbings family has resulted in the creation of a challenging full length 9 hole golf course, driving range and practice facilities boasting an enviable reputation. The Bistro at Little Channels is an ideal place to relax and settle down with the morning paper whilst enjoying a long, leisurely breakfast while The Courtyard Suite, with its ancient oak beams and attractive décor is a popular venue for birthdays, anniversaries and even wedding gatherings and overlooks a large internal courtyard where golfers can enjoy the fresh air after a round of golf. The 9 hole pay and play course, with its 22 bay floodlit driving range and some of the best practice facilities in the area offers 5 star facilities for golfers. In the next month work to further improve the amenities including the indoor driving range will take place while the strong team of teaching professionals will benefit from the appointment of PGA professional golfer Jason Levermore who has successfully competed on the Challenge and Europro Tours.

Professionals – Jack Cole and Matthew Mahoney, along with James Scade and Josh Lewis, run the highly regarded School of Golf which delivers high quality, professional coaching to golfers of all ages and abilities. With the addition of swing video analysis and online lesson reviews and evaluations, The School of Golf is heavily focused on the progression of its golfers. The Little Channels junior programmes have already successfully encouraged hundreds of youngsters to take up golf and the PGA team have helped in the development of young golfing talent and ability. Although their sessions are focused on improvement, they are delivered in a fun, enjoyable environment where skills are taught through drills and games. Offering weeknight and weekend development classes to juniors under the age of 12, the Little Channels Kids’ Club allows beginners to take their first steps onto the golf course and flourish as they learn valuable technical skills. For those youngsters who wish to progress into competitive golf, Little Channels also offers lessons within The Academy a key part of The School of Golf. Additionally, the Little Channels golfing birthday parties and holiday camps which run during halfterms, Easter, summer and Christmas breaks, are a unique and fun way for boys and girls to experience playing and learning golf whilst making new friends and having fun.

Improve Your Club Marketing and Boost Revenues in 2017 E

ngland Golf can help you kick-start your New Year with two local workshops taking place at Playgolf Colchester over the coming weeks. Both will pack a punch with practical expert advice:

Increasing your Club Revenue – Wednesday 15 February – 1 day interactive workshop The key revenue streams for most clubs are annual membership subscriptions, visitor green fees and food & beverage, however think outside the box and consider activities that could provide additional income streams and perhaps open up an entirely new customer base. In this one day workshop, Jerry Kilby (Kanda Golf) will provide 40 ideas for generating revenue, across four areas of the golf club’s business: membership; clubhouse; golf operations and partnerships.

Marketing & Social Media – Thursday 21 March – 1 day interactive workshop Helping your club to do the sales and marketing basics brilliantly - to help drive club revenue. Jane Carter (Golf Unlimited) will take you through the basics of understanding how critical sales and marketing is to the growth of your golf club; where you are now; and how to develop and implement a sales and marketing strategy. By the end of this session you will understand how to bring your members on board, identify the best marketing ideas and tactics for your golf club, have the right tools, including digital and social media, to build your own ‘media channel’’, understand how to set a budget and to invest in sales and marketing, develop 3 key campaigns and know how to build the power of one factor into your golf club marketing. Both workshops run 10am to 4pm and each costs £99 per club - for 2 people to attend and it includes lunch and refreshments. Max 4 people per club can attend.

Lee Porter, the PGA Professional attached to Hylands Golf Complex in Chelmsford, has been voted Clubmaker of the Year by the Golf Clubmakers Association in the UK. Lee now ranks in the top ten custom-fit clubmakers throughout Europe. No wonder he counts 8 touring golf pros as customers, including the ever popular local Pro, Robbie Coles.

Should I Really Change My Driver Every Year? A

s I write this I’m sitting in Orlando International Airport having attended the biggest golf show on the planet … The PGA Merchandise Show. It’s been said that to walk the show floor is the equivalent of three miles, there’s a demo day at Orange County National Golf Centre and three days in the convention centre itself. It’s my seventeenth year in a row and in all honesty nothing changes.

Firstly, it’s a complete ego trip for golf ’s biggest companies, who’s got the biggest stand, who has the biggest screens and can unveil a new technology that will totally change the way the game is played … until it dies a death and is withdrawn next year. To give you some idea a ‘stand’ for a major golf company is approximately three to four times the size of a large golf shop we would have in the UK. What has changed is that there is nothing new at the show, ten to fifteen years ago product was kept under wraps and unveiled at the show in January - now it’s released all year round utilising

social media and online platforms. Which, in my opinion, is a good thing as it helps level the playing field when it comes to advertising budgets. Are there any really good small companies out there with good technology? Yes, many - but they struggle to get their product to market as they are overshadowed by marketing giants both online and in paper format. Unfortunately, some forums and equipment reviewers can be a little biased to say the least towards certain companies so ultimately it can just end up a sales pitch. Back to the question … I’m not naming no names but a major company claimed at the show to produce three miles per hour more ball speed from the face then their competitor. Impressive, sounds great but what does it mean? For me three mph would equate to somewhere between six to nine yards extra distance all things being equal. Selling for around £450.00 you can do the math on what a yard costs you. Would it make a difference to your game, maybe … a few extra yards are always nice … will it change your game … no. For me to change drivers year in year out makes no sense, maybe if your driver was 4+ years old then it may be worth a look. Finally, I found a golf shaft company, big into aerospace and composites. I thought the shafts were very reasonably priced … the top of the range was $80,000. That’s not a typo, it’s $80,000. Unfortunately, it does not come with a house, a car or not even a holiday - it does not even come with a guarantee to hit the fairway. Play well!

Stock Brook Ladies Charity

T

he Ladies Section of Stock Brook Manor raised an impressive £5,500 in 2016 for Sawyers Church in Brentwood. Last years’ Captain, Penney Mumford, explained to Essex Golfer what the money will be used for. “The money will be used to help equip the kitchen and café area in the new building. This area will be a hub in the local community. It will be a place where the lonely and isolated can come and find friendship and support, a place where the elderly can have a cooked dinner and enjoy the company of others. We will offer employment to adults with learning disabilities, who wouldn’t be able to find or have the confidence to hold down a job. New Mums can come with their babies for advice, young people can come in after school and be supported with their homework and life as a teenager and I’m sure there will be many others. Being from America, the matches and events in 2016 all had an American theme so it was great to

Penney Mumford, Elaine Pitman the Charity Fundraiser for Sawyers and the 2017 Lady Captain Laura Lee.

try American food dishes, wear red, white and blue, decorate the club in all things American and enjoy entertainment from The Other Guys, a Jersey Boys tribute band!” In 2017 the whole of Stock Brook is supporting St Lukes Hospice in Basildon.

If you are a prolific true slicer who hits a shot which starts left of the flag or chosen target and watches in dismay as it curves right during it’s flight then this drill is for you. Set the empty shoe box tight to the golf ball as shown in the photo, ensure your selected target is parallel with the bottom edge of the shoe box. Start off with some short half swings firstly without a golf ball trying to avoid contact with the box . When you feel confident place a ball into position and try to hit the ball without striking the box. This drill is a great visual providing instant feedback but will help to correct the path of the club not necessarily the club face position. This clubface position will be covered in a subsequent article but this is an easy drill to work on at home replacing the ball with an airflow ball if range work is not possible.

T

he Hertfordshire was looking in cracking shape for the Jäger lads arrival. We started off in the ‘St James’ room overlooking the first tee where we were served up a buffet full English breakfast and conducted the 24 player live draw for the days four balls - For once, there was a real mix up of players and the pair’s games looking very interesting! Consensus was that the course was in great condition considering the time of the year. Greens were in very good Nick, but slower than a snail and fairly inconsistent, due to a lot of dew. Results wise, there were some unbelievable performances by the higher handicappers, taking the top two spots - Stel(23) winning with 41

points, Johnny OD(25) and Glen coming 2nd with 40. All being heavily cut obviously. Stel also took home the pairs win with President Kian with 75 combined points. Highlights of the day - our VP, Tyler losing (throwing) his wedge into the lake. Bubble winning the LD with a 304 yarder. Pan performing terribly and blobbing most of the par 3s but making a 40yard putt for birdie. Lastly, Daddy Siabi's group removed the flag (unconfirmed rumour) while he was in the bunker, took his shot which was within inches from the pin to realise they had put it miles away from the hole. Next up is Ballards Gore Golf Club in Rochford, Essex. đ&#x;˜€

The

Jubilee Cup Update from Jubilee Cup Committee, sponsored by Seabrook Warehousing, and reported by Chairman Phil Redhead

HAPPY NEW YEAR JUBILEE CUP TEAMS!

P

lanning and preparation for the League matches is well under way now as evidenced by the calls and emails the Committee is getting currently. Round One matches will complete by 9th April so we will have future updates focussed on progress through this phase via Essex Golfer. We also have our website www.jubileecup.com,Twitter (@jubilee_cup) and more recently a Facebook page (www.facebook.com/thejubileecup) - please LIKE us so we can keep you abreast of developments on a more regular basis than the excellent Essex Golfer! As a reminder for the competition in 2017, we completed the draw last year and clubs are now busy arranging matches. The four League rounds themselves will need to be played by the timescales below, so promises to be a busy spring and summer in 2017 - as it made clear to the teams at the AGM however, any of the games can be played prior to those deadlines. We even had a club in 2016 who had completed all their matches practically by end of May, and so a whole month ahead of final completion at last. • Round 1 complete by 9th April 2017 • Round 2 complete by 7th May 2017 • Round 3 complete by 28th May 2017 • Round 4 complete by 18th June 2017 Last month we displayed Round 1 matched, and below you can see Round 2. www.jubileecup.com/matches2017/draw2017.html

Looking forward to 2017 competition, by the time you read this we will have our full entrants for next year, and will be heading towards the Annual General Meeting and draw at Chelmsford Golf Club on Wednesday 23rd November. As you may know, the Jubilee Cup is open to ALL Essex clubs, and we seek to make the competition bigger and better every year – I am pleased to see some great new clubs entering the competition, such as Braintree Golf Club who has entered for the first time in 2017. Sad news must be flagged in that we have also had a withdrawal from a great supporter of ours, Channels Golf Club, due to the circumstances at the club. Our next update in Essex Golfer may just include the Drawn of the 2017 Leagues, so keep an eye out! Looking forward to seeing you all in 2017. All the best Phil - 43 -

THE RULES OF GOLF The new rules of golf at your fingertips

New golf rules have been in force since 1st January 2012; it is therefore high time to get a new rule book for your golf bag. The best choice is “Golf Rules Quick Reference”. The multi award-winning, ring-bound book has already sold more than a million copies and contains the answers to all the rules questions that commonly arise on the golf course. It is intended to be used while on the course, therefore it has a practical pocketsized format, uses hard-wearing, water-repellent paper and has a sturdy protective cover. As every rules situation is illustrated (more than 180 illustrations), players can find the right solution straight away. To sum it up, this little gem belongs in every golf bag. £11.95. ondon will be well represented when the grand final of the 2016 Morocco Matchplay, powered by HowDidiDo, takes place in Marrakech next month (February 7-10). Three pairs of amateur golfers from the region will be looking to bring home silverware in the prestigious event as four competitions - singles, pairs, mixed pairs and senior pairs - conclude in the winter sun at the Robert Trent Jonesdesigned PalmGolf Marrakech Palmeraie. Five-handicap chef Paul Knight, 50, from Fulham who once worked for Hollywood great Robert de Niro in New York City - and four-handicap West Middlesex GC club-mate David Grabham, a 24year-old bathroom installer from Ruislip, will be going

They are joined on the flight to Morocco by husband-and-wife duo Peter and Leah Fitzgerald, who live in Epping. Managing director Peter, 45, who plays off 10, and 35year-old train operator Leah, who has a 12 handicap, are both members at Theydon Bois GC and will be taking on all-comers in the mixed pairs event. In all, 32 golfers from across the UK will be fighting it out for the trophies, with each having qualified from two regional finals in 2016.

More Trophies for Newton’s Alice Barlow N

ewton Green’s Alice Barlow brought down the curtain on her outstanding season by picking up the two leading awards at the annual meeting of Suffolk Ladies’ County Golf Association. She won the Joy Winn Salver for the lowest scratch scores during the season, and the Nigel Birrell Trophy awarded by the county captain to the most outstanding golfer of the year. Alice, 18, also received her county colours. She is in her final year at Thomas Gainsborough School, Great Cornard, and will be concentrating on playing in leading women’s amateur events across the country. Over the last year, she has won all the leading Suffolk ladies’ trophies, as well as being the first winner of the national junior champion of champions’ trophy, and finished seventh in the Telegraph BMW junior championships in Portugal.

Improve Your Game With 3D Motion Analysis L

eading Essex Golf Coach Mark Sharman is pleased to be able to offer the revolutionary 3D motion capture system to help your golf game. Having been the first coach to use a computerised swing analyser and high speed video on the European Tour he has always kept up to date with the latest technology and is excited to be using this game changing product which will help your game. This product, unlike most of the products introduced over the last 10 to 15 years, is not superficial, but actually gives accurate usable information that can be used to help the golfer. It measures the important areas that actually have an effect on your golf game, whilst I’m the first to acknowledge the golf shot is dependent on the clubs characteristics through the impactseparation phase of a swing, it is your body and how you move it that controls the club and this product deals with this “THE IMPORTANT RELVENT INFORMATION” that will help, it’s basically A WHOLE BODY SCAN IN 3D that will show how efficient you are or possibly/probably not. Mark is one of the few coaches to have had Tour Players win on the US PGA Tour, European

Tour, European Seniors and Challenge Tour as well as International Events under his guidance said “Finally a game changing product that I knew from the moment I saw it will positively help golfer’s by cutting out all the superficial information that gets in the way of learning and developing your golf game. The product also offers bio feedback for accelerated improvement which the golfer can also hire for more productive practice/training sessions” If you’re interested in improving, discovering how efficiently your creating and delivering power (WANT TO HIT IT FURTHER AND/OR STRAIGHTER), understand your X Factor or Functional Swing Plane or SIMPLY WANT TO IMPROVE YOUR GAME AND HIT BETTER SHOTS Mark is offering this GAME CHANGING 3D SCAN at Stock Brook Country Club, Billericay and Brentwood Park Golf Range, Warley for the price of a standard lesson until the end of March 2017. For more information or to book a consultation Please contact Mark on 07788 591 340 or e-mail mark@quantumgolf.co.uk, www.quantumgolf.co.uk

COUNTY/ COLTS v UNDER 18’s Aldeburgh Golf Club – Thursday 22nd December 2016 On a beautiful clear but cold winters morning on the Suffolk coast, some the finest golfers in the county gathered for the annual end of season ‘friendly’ at Aldeburgh Golf Club. The course was as usual presented in its finest winter condition and all Essex golfers and officials were warmly met. The under 18s were facing a strong colts/county team and after a sterling effort in the morning foursomes were narrowly behind at lunch 3 ½ to 2 ½, notable performance from the pairing of Patrick Arundel and Harry Robson beating Taylor Carter and Brandon Meads on the last hole. First out in the afternoon were County Captain and order of Merit winner Jay Beisser against reigning Henry Cooper Classic champion Michael Gilbert and what a match this turned out to be. With golf of the very highest standard on a tough track, Jay just ran out a 2 and 1 winner. The following games showed the same quality golf, with notable wins from Curtis Knipes, Joshua Read, Harry Moncur and Harvey Payne. However the County/Colts ran out 8 to 4 winners in the afternoon singles. Final match score 11 ½ to 6 ½ for the County/Colts side Thanks were given to Aldeburgh for the super condition of the course and their impeccable hospitality. Phil Hulse, County Team Manager

Alastair Plumb, Essex Amateur Champion, driving off on his way to a6&5 win in his singles match.

GOLF TIPS FOR AROUND THE COURSE As every golfer knows, if the ball doesn’t land on the fairway your problems are only just beginning. Your ball could be on a slope, in tall grass or bushes, on the lip of a bunker, on stony ground etc. etc In his new compact guide, best-selling author Yves Ton-That (“Golf Rules Quick Reference”, more than 1 million copies sold) gives the reader tips for every seemingly hopeless situation – short and concise, illustrated and easy-to-understand. Thanks to the structure with sections from tee to green, golfers can find the information they need in an instant. A quick fix guide for eliminating mistakes makes the practical ring-bound water-repellent booklet the ideal accompaniment on the course.

The tips are based on many years of competition experience by leading golf professionals. We’d be willing to bet that “Golf Trouble Shots and Quick Fix Guide” will help you save a number of strokes on your next round.
