There is so much happening next week: the amazing Reality Bites – Australia’s premier literary non-fiction event, incredible music with Katie Noonan, Louise King and Ebony Hamacek, and the Starry Nights Drive-in is screening a Ghostbusters double feature! How lucky are we? Now how to convince the grandparents to visit (and babysit) for a whole week! There’s been much blood, sweat and tears from amazing event organisers who have worked incredibly hard and given of their time and talent to make Eumundi a cultural hub next week – worthy of any capital city – let alone a country town! I hope you’ll all get out and enjoy what’s on offer.

How long have you been in business in Eumundi? PBG Maintenance has been operating on the Sunshine Coast for over 20 years. I’ve lived in Eerwah Vale for over 10 years previously living in Eumundi itself.
What is the best thing about working here? Definitely the weather. Also the daily interaction with the locals makes my job so enjoyable. My customers over the years have become more like friends - always willing to have a chat, share a story or a joke and, on occasions, work with them on their property as a team to get the job done. What is the worst thing you’ve found about working here? Without doubt the rough roads. Recently I found out that I have a fracture to my back. Being a truck driver and travelling these roads for more than 20 years I attribute the worsening condition of my back to the state of the roads. I would say that the roads right now are the worst I have ever experienced during my working career. I am forever checking my vehicles for loose wheels, broken shocks etc. What would you like to see change in our business district? All is Pretty Bloody Good except for the roads - Ha!

What and where is your business? PBG Maintenance provides property maintenance to the Sunshine Coast and offers an extensive list of services that include: slashing, mowing, spraying, road/driveway repairs, land clearing and water deliveries. I own a fleet of equipment and ensure that the services provided by PBG (Paul Bernard Grumball) live up to our motto of ‘Pretty Bloody Good’.
What made you choose Eumundi to base your business? I was drawn to this quiet country town where I was made to feel very welcome and right at home by locals. Over the years I have noted that new arrivals to the area are similarly welcomed and that is a nice thing to be part of a community that cares. Everyone I meet is very passionate about the area. Having said that it is possibly not the best area right now to be starting up a property maintenance business doing what I do. Twenty years ago however there were not that many businesses offering these services. My client base has remained very loyal and this has greatly assisted me in growing my business.
Would you love to create a special day for your little fairy and a magical memory that will be treasured forever?

Alan Ramsey In June 2012 Jeff Seeney - the Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning - gave final State Govt approval for Caloundra South. This approval was granted without an agreement for the provision of council infrastructure between the Council and the developer. Caloundra South is the largest development proposal ever approved on the Coast. Sunshine Coast Council (SCC) has been reported as stating that there could be up to a $560 million shortfall between the cost of infrastructure and the charges able to be collected from the developer. This shortfall will have to be recovered from existing ratepayers or by increased council borrowings. However, Caloundra South is not the only one. SCC is one of the highest growth councils in regional Qld with large
developments also planned for Maroochydore CBD, the airport and possibly at Yaroomba. Even without these future large projects, on 9 July this year the Sunshine Coast Daily reported that Council had approved 1662 new development lots this financial year. In February this year the Local Government Association of Qld (LGAQ) released a report on infrastructure charges which showed there is, on average, a 30% shortfall on what developers pay for infrastructure and this could mean up to an average $409 annual rate rise for ratepayers. Again, according to the LGAQ, Govt cuts to infrastructure charges has left an $800 million cumulative cost to local government. Across Qld local govt debt has spiraled from $1.8 billion in 2007-08 to $7.1 billion at June 2014.

Have your say on the airport EIS On Monday the Sunshine Coast Airport Expansion Environment Impact Study (EIS) was released by the Queensland Government’s Office of the Coordinator-General for public comment. This is an exciting step forward in the aviation sector for this council and for the region as a whole. This project is significantly important to help achieve the region’s economic and job-creation aspirations. The EIS is available for download and comment on the Coordinator-General’s website. Submissions close at 5pm Thursday 13 November. Eumundi Historical Association A highlight for me in recent weeks was attending the Eumundi Historical Association (EHA) annual general meeting, along with the presentation for the group’s annual donations program. Over $40,000 was donated towards projects, events and other fundraising activities. This is always an inspirational evening – it really showcases the terrific work that is done in our community. Congratulations to Donata and her hardworking committee on another outstanding year.
A unified Sunshine Coast As Councillor Rogerson mentioned in the last edition of Eumundi Green, Local Government Minister David Crisafulli has advised a boundary change for Eumundi, Doonan, Verrierdale and Weyba Downs will not proceed. Minister Crisafulli’s decision will ease the concerns and confusion that has been generated for many residents. Council received numerous letters and emails of support from residents in these areas indicating that they wish to see their communities remain within the Sunshine Coast Council area. I have also received further inquiries about the latest news articles provided by the EDV Residents Group. I can only reiterate the Minister’s own words “a boundary change as suggested by the EDV Residents Group will not proceed.” I don’t think you can get any clearer than that.
The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Sunshine Coast Airport Expansion Project encompasses a new longer, wider runway operating in a north-west/south-east direction, terminal upgrades and new airfield infrastructure. This new proposal shows a flight path that runs across Verrierdale between Doonan and Eumundi. The EIS reviews the social, economic and environmental impacts of the proposed expansion project. The project is expected to contribute $4.1
It’s now available for public comment until Thursday 13 November, after which the EIS will be assessed by the Queensland and Australian Governments. To view a virtual flight path fly through and the impact statement head to sunshinecoastairport.com.au/ go.cfm/expansion-fly-through

The Reality Bites non-fiction writers’ festival is gearing up for an incredible year with the main program of events being held in Eumundi for the first time. Workshops and community events will remain at the Cooroy Library, but expanding into Eumundi allows the festival to kick off bright and early at 7.30am on Thursday 23 at Berkelouw Books with the launch of Raoul Slater’s book Glimpses of Australian Birds.
Clayton Burrell (Clay, Clayto) was an amazing husband and father who tragically lost his life in September, suffering an unexpected cerebral aneurism, and sadly leaving behind his wonderful partner (the love of his life) Tanya and their three beautiful children, Letti eight, Jarn six and Jasper three. Clay grew up in the area and his children attend Pengari Steiner School. Clay’s colourful and bright energy has left an inspirational impression on us all. The family loved going to the Eumundi markets and often featured in the Green supporting the Eumundi Live concerts. He exuded a natural strength and a shining light and was a man with a big heart whose energy always filled a room with love and laughter. Clay always wanted to create a healthy and sustainable life for his family in and amongst the
beauty of nature, where they could all flourish. Sadly, he is no longer here to fulfil those dreams leaving behind his young family in need. There are the ongoing costs of rent, food and education, not to mention a new safe vehicle.
Over the four day event, which will inject a fantastic energy into
the township, Eumundi’s famous Berkelouw Bookshop, School of Arts and Green Room will host acclaimed authors such as: John Birmingham, Mandy Sayer, David Leser, Inga Simpson, Phil Jarrat, Tony Birch, Anna Campbell, Steven Lang, Keelen Mailman, Maxine McKew and Mandy Sayer. Opening night will be held on Friday 24 at the Green Room where it’s all about LOVE - a major theme of the festival. For a full program of events head to realitybitesfestival.org
So as family friends, and with the Pengari School community who are feeling his loss terribly, we have set up a fundraiser to raise $100,000 to support Tanya and her children through the journey forward. From small acts of kindness to large, it will all help make the family’s daily rhythm a little easier during this incredibly sad and tough journey. In gratitude, love and light, we thank you from the bottom of all of our hearts on their behalf. Donations can be made directly at Gofundme.com/ emc61s

to see why. Bedazzled bridles, highly crimped manes and braided tails jockeyed with classically dressed riders under a scorching sun in over 60 events. However, I feel that it was the Eumundi State School students that stole the Eumundi Park Recreation and Showgrounds Association’s show. Not just on horseback, but with their award winning artwork hung in the historic hospital amidst the handmade crafts and lovingly tended blooms at the Eumundi Showgrounds on Blackstump Rd.

You can book a place in any workshop – or any combination. Or go to them all! Spend two and a half days believing in yourself as a writer. And soaking up the advice of experts. So, if you can make it, go to one of these workshops. Hey, go to them all (there’s a great package).
Some - the workshop by Mark Tredinnick last year was one were inspirational. Some made me re-think the approach to my work, its structure or overall purpose. Some workshops showed me that other writers, my workshop participants, are struggling with similar issues. Sometimes I even came away thinking I was on the right track!

I find that all of Judy Nunn’s novels follow her typical signature format; but I am always amazed by how much information and history she researches and includes in her books. I learn quite a bit of recent Australian history and feel that it is being told by a good friend, not an author. Perhaps it is because we know Ms Nunn so well from her acting days or that she simply handles her subject matter so well and passes on this information through her books - that we secretly feel like someone who “knows” is revealing this information privately to us, the readers. The 576 page book is an epic but very enjoyable Australiana tale; which draws you into the private lives of big wealthy families filled with secrets and history.

Writing workshops offer you the experience and expertise of established writers. This year’s festival offers workshops on researching history (with Anna Campbell), writing with grace (with Mark Tredinnick), nature writing (with Inga Simpson),
This story is about Big Jim Durham and the French girl he marries, Elianne Desmarais who the plantation was named after. It spans generations of the Durham family. As with many families, Jim and Ellie’s children show no interest, for many reasons, in running the family business; but it skips a generation to where the grandchildren take over. Then they discover old diaries that their Grandmother, Elianne wrote, secretly in French, so that her husband Jim couldn’t read them. The revelations of these diaries opens up old
wounds and changes everything they have ever known about their family and beloved Elianne.

being an agile writer (with Meg Vann) and on telling true stories (with Matthew Ricketson).
Judy Nunn’s latest sweeping Australian saga had me enthralled from the first chapter. This story is about two generations of a sugar producing dynasty set at the turn of the 20th century and in 1960s Bundaberg. As with all of Nunn’s books, it is well researched and uses real names and locations so you feel part of the story - especially if you’ve been to these places.

This will be the seventh season for Eumundi and the first without head coach and foundation member, Richard McLean. Last Friday morning after Super Squad training, Club President Oddbjorn Ludvigsen awarded Richard with life membership and in an emotive speech thanked Richard for all his support and dedication over the years. Kids A N AT U R A L E D U C AT I O N At 9am on a recent Saturday morning , a dozen children stood in a circle holding hands beside a dam, listening to nature and life on the Shambhala farm in Doonan. The children heard the sounds of irrigation sprinklers watering vegetables, the gentle squeak of newborn ducklings paddling through green algae in the water, a kookaburra calling, the sound of banana plant leaves shaken by the wind. At this Grow Nature Education workshop, four to eight year-old children

became closer to nature, to their food, community and each other. Through the little permaculture garden, the children made their way to a lush rainforest, walked through a naturally made wooden gate installed with wide tree trunks, to an area transformed into a children’s exploration space – the village. Native bush huts making natural cubby houses sit amongst the trees and create an intimate atmosphere. Together with self-motivation and social activities, the project is set to encourage children to potentially grow a food garden as a hobby, care for it, recognise local food and what is in season,
know where their food comes from and get access to a variety of sustainable life skills. Another exciting thing about the project is that the learning space in the forest is a recognised aboriginal place, where the forest is being regenerated and integrated into the farm: planting a food garden, making art and jewellery with natural objects, cooking, learning fermentation, playing sounds and being active are all part of the day and the children gained an appreciation of their natural world. facebook.com/GardenPlayGrow

A taste of Bali
Agung and Elise Sastrawan, The Bali Cart
We’ve chosen to share one of our favourite Balinese dishes - Sate Languan - a spicy coconut fish satay. The fresh, punchy flavours make for the perfect summer night’s meal. Agung first learnt to make this dish with his family in his home village of Jemebrana in West Bali, way before he moved to Australia to work as a chef. In Bali this dish is typically eaten at big family gatherings, when everyone comes together at times of traditional ceremony. This dish is traditionally enjoyed with Jukut Urap, a crunchy mix of green vegetables, chilli sambal and toasted coconut. We hope you enjoy this satay favourite as much as we do! Pop into the markets and tell us how you go with the recipe. We’re only too happy to chat about all things Bali - especially the food - which is our passion. Selamat makan, which is Indonesian for ‘enjoy your meal! Heritage EUMUNDI SCHOOL OF ARTS TURNING 102 Most halls in the hinterland region are Council owned or run, but the Eumundi School of Arts has been trusted to the community for its maintenance and use from the beginning. The State Government gazetted the land the hall is on to the community in 1905 and a hall was built in 1908 but was soon found to be too small. A new hall was proposed in 1911 and was built using mostly donated timber milled at no charge in the Etheridge’s sawmill. The hall opened on 15 November 1912 to quite a fanfare with a two-day celebration and was considered one of the finest buildings in the area. Over the years there have been changes to the hall, including two additions. Once two storey and quite ornate the ravages of time and white ants saw it lowered to the one story building we have today.
balls, wedding receptions, war fundraising efforts, silent movies and talkies and now monthly showings by the Eumundi World Cinema group. In addition to this the hall has had a multitude of other uses including badminton, roller skating and boxing. Yoga and indoor bowls have been going for many years and still continue to this day. Current activities include a theatre group, burlesque dancing, Kung Fu and children’s creative dance, with community meetings and one off uses in between.

Outdoors PEKIN DUCKS AS PETS We have had the pleasure of having Pekin ducks as pets for nearly two years and they are an absolute delight - for the beauty of their pristine white bodies and orange beaks on our dam. We originally had two as hatched ducklings that never knew their mum, so they bonded with us easily. When little they would come and sit on our legs, feed from our hands and even have a nap. As adults they don’t like cuddles so much, but they will still eat food from our hands and we trained them to recognise a call that means “it’s time to come home for some grain.” We made a duck house to keep them safe at night from snakes and dogs. Our girl will lay big eggs too - though not all year round. Other people say the eggs taste too strong and use them just for baking, but we have found them the same as our chicken eggs and quite delicious. Recently, we let the egg numbers build up in the nest and once there were about 15, our girl began sitting on them

day and night and let her drake enjoy the daily swim alone. She seemed to go into a trance-like state and had the patience of a saint. One morning, several weeks later, we saw a little yellow head poke out from under her white wing and were amazed to find 4 ducklings under her among the 20-something eggs. We had 12 gorgeous yellow fluffballs hatch within a day ... what a joy! Mum and dad duck are quite protective; we still steal a cuddle but there is much squawking, chirping and fretting from all. A week later the little ducklings are all venturing out onto the dam and trying to keep up with their parents. Once you have a suitable snake proof house, ducks are easy pets to keep. They are known to eat mashed fruit and veg, though ours seem to only love passionfruit, and we give them duckling mash and later organic chook grain. As well as their beauty and their eggs, another bonus is they will gobble up and clear weed infestations on your dam such as duck weed

N atu re N otes DARTERS – DEVIL BIRDS We know them as darters, divers, long-necked cormorants and snake-birds but to certain tribes in the Amazon jungle, they were Devil Birds. Although not closely related, Australasian Divers, Anhinga novaehollandiae, do look like cormorants with extra long necks and exhibit similar behaviour in hunting their prey of small fish (sometimes not so small), frogs and other aquatic animals. The name darter is thought to come from this bird’s ability to flick its long neck with sharp beak forward to impale its prey, similar to our action when throwing a dart. But why Devil-Bird? When darters are swimming in between dives their bodies are mostly submerged but their long necks are held out of the water – at first glance looking a lot like a snake about to strike. People native to any
Kon Hepers
area are usually very familiar with the plants and animals in that area and understand their natures and behaviours. But for the Tupinamba people of the Amazon, superstition took over from close observation and when they saw a bird dive into the water and emerge as a snake, they figured it had to be evil magic and the bird was obviously a Devil-Bird. Once, on the Noosa River, one surfaced quite near our canoe and caused a bit of commotion until we realised what it was! Darters are quite common around our area and are found over most of the continent with the exception of a wide belt of desert country mainly in Western Australia. The Australian species has now been separated out from four or five others found in warm areas on other continents. The birds are often observed
perched on a rock or stump with wings outspread to dry. This is because, like cormorants but unlike ducks, they are unable to “waterproof” their feathers with oil from a special gland. While they are able to swim underwater for long distances with ease, taking off and flying with their soaked feathers takes much effort so they have a need to dry out at every opportunity.
Darters build a rough nest over water. Four or five eggs are usual, laid mainly in the warm seasons. This species displays colour dimorphism: the males have mainly black plumage while the females are more a buff colouration. We won’t even try to describe their loud, unique rattling call, which is definitely a “what was that?” sound when heard for the first time.
Eumundi Community Garden
EDCA are strong supporters of the Eumundi Community Garden and are working with them in bringing this worthwhile project to fruition.
In July of this year, fresh seeds were planted for a Community Garden in Eumundi, an idea that has previously been raised and is supported by many Eumundi locals. Georgia Brown initiated the first meeting that was held at Sunspace Café. This led to an enthusiastic and motivated committee being formed to support the Eumundi Community Garden concept; Anya Morgan, Bridget Bygott, Georgie Brachold and Georgia Brown. At this stage the committee are putting together a proposal and learning how to navigate their way through this large project. There are several locations around Eumundi that are suitable for community gardens, but nothing has been made final yet. They are still in the very early stages of this project and encourage anyone and everyone to give their input in some way, whether it be through facebook, e-mail (georgia-green7@outlook.com) or through the Green, all contributions are important for the growth and authenticity of this worthwhile project!

When the new look Green first came out I was taken aback by its lack of… green! “ITS NOT GREEN ITS WHITE,” said my mind. I was not sure I liked the matte cover and the re-ordering of things just annoyed me. I always enjoy the content and even though I wanted to like its new look, I just didn’ t. Now, a few issues on, I have to say I REALLY like it. It looks modern, fresh, enticing and when I look back at the old version, it now looks so old and dated. Isn’t it funny how we struggle with change and resist it, unless we are the ones to bring it forth? Well done to the team at The Green. Our mag is a great representation of our vibrant, creative and stylish town and we can be proud that it is being environmentally sensitive too. Jane Welsh, Verrierdale
P O P ’ S PA R K We are very interested in the upgrading of Pop’s park. My husband is Dick Caplick’s grandson and we know how important the park was to Pop. We wanted to ensure his legacy of appreciating our environment and this town was captured in the upgrade. Pop was of course a lover of natives and Lilly Pillies and enjoyed nothing more than watching the children and families having fun in the park. We participate each year in the Anzac parade with our Jeep out of great respect for what the forefathers of Eumundi went through to protect what we all enjoy today. Because we are part of this community and Raymond was born and still lives in Coleus Road in Eerwah Vale, because you asked and because we care, we would love to help if at all possible and needed. And kicking off the festivities on Friday the 24th, come and celebrate the hundred and second birthday of our School of Arts in a delicious night of music and community featuring four time ARIA winning songstress Katie Noonan with her Songbook project alongside cellist Louise King and exciting up and coming chanteuse Ebony Hamacek. 6pm for 6.30pm start. Tickets available from Berkelouw Books, Discover Eumundi and www.redchair.com.au. Price includes dinner, dessert and drink.
and so many kids play there on market days. We need a ‘wow’ structure that can accommodate many kids at once. I’d also try to tie in four swings - as there’s always a queue. Working in a toy shop I know that the themes knights/princesses/dragons and pirates are always popular. My first choice would be a castle/ fort structure like at Kings Beach, Caloundra (it would also tie in with the Lionheart hotel across the road). My second choice would be a pirate ship (also like at Kings Beach Caloundra) and my third choice would be a timber playground similar to the Moffat Beach one.
Bush Ballads aplenty for RV visitors.

Since building our new RV facility at the ECCO main carpark, we have attracted visitors from all over in ever growing numbers as a new RV Friendly town. And to prime these good folk in advance of some serious shopping therapy at our world famous markets on a Wednesday, Experience Eumundi has been putting on a BBQ and bush ballads in front of the brilliant Body Art mural every Tuesday night. Popular balladeers Ellis and Doug (seen here with Astrid Moortgat from Belgium and Marion Justinien from France) kick off at 6.00pm each Tuesday night to great acclaim.

Catch our Community Bus! Each year our community bus service is subsided by ECCO by approximately $25,000, providing shopping trips for some of our older residents and young families, as well as for many other charitable community uses. The bus is also a shuttle on big market days when in-town parking is scarce – ferrying eager shoppers to the markets and traders in town for the benefit of all. The Bus is not getting any younger, so to ensure this service is available to Eumundi-ites well into the future please catch our bus! Fares are heavily subsidized and we offer this service for a genuine community benefit. Have a good night in town with no need for a ‘designated driver’! For all Bookings 0488 322 323
I just thought I would respond to the article by Amy Clarke [The Green 204]. I was involved in the building of the Art House at Eumundi State School (ESS) - 11 years of fighting bureaucrats in the Education Department and ESS now has an amazing arts centre, courtesy of the government of the time. But sadly it’s not used for that purpose anymore. The philosophy was to nurture our children’s creativity, and I think we can say we did! I would strongly recommend readers to have a look at Ken Robinson’s TED talk, How Schools Kill Creativity, to get an insight from an amazing and funny man as to why it is so important to encourage the artist in all our kids. As he says, “All children are born artists, the difficulty is letting them remain artists.” Elaine Riding, Eumundi

I just want to say how beautiful the cover of the most recent edition is. It’s got it all. Local person, beautiful pony, innovative market business, amazing colour with the freshness of spring! It’s the cover that gives it a place at the top of the mag pile on our coffee table.

Doonan, Verrierdale and Weyba Downs, they don’t matter at all.) So, only a few months ago, the Noosa Hinterland wasn’t just the opposite of “vital” it wasn’t even on the map. Conclusion: it’s official, the Noosa Hinterland is definitely not a part of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. The Noosa Hinterland belongs in Noosa Shire. Victor Waterhouse, Doonan.

NOTICES Eumundi 110 residents are invited to join Kristine on the National Garage Sale Trail Day on 25 October. The trail is about re-using great stuff, reducing waste to landfill, meeting your neighbours, stimulating local economies, and providing an awesome platform for fundraising - with the support of our participating local councils. The more people involved, the greater the chances of us clearing out our garages (and closets) while putting some cash back into our pockets. You can add your own sale on the site, or link up with my group sale www.garagesaletrail.com.au/sale/ eumundi-110-clean-out. A Workshop on the basics of keeping chickens and producing healthy eggs for the family will be held at Sunspace Café on Eumundi/Noosa Rd, Doonan. COUNCILLOR LOST IN HINTERLAND In prematurely rejecting EDV’s proposal for a boundary change, the Sunshine Coast Council is now at great pains to portray the Noosa Hinterland as a “vital part of the Sunshine Coast community.” So how did they feel about us 12 months ago, when the inaugural Sunshine Coast Hinterland Business Networking event took place? Cr. Rogerson – remember him, the Councillor who has only our best interests at heart – was one of the draw cards. Did he inform any of the businesses in Eumundi, his electorate, that the event was taking place? Not one. (Forget about
I think the tiny minority EDV group should be very grateful to local government representative David Crisafulli for ignoring their plea and avoiding them further embarrassment down the track. As we have all found out by now, their group has still not come up with a sensible reason for splitting up from the Sunshine Coast Council. Now those rather vain and very superficial people who are so desperate for the Noosa brand and etiquette can always settle for second best and maybe move to “Noosa Summit” in Doonan or “Noosa Ridge” on Dean Road, shop at “Fruits of Noosa” in Doonan (try not to be seen enjoying yourself at “Cafe Doonan” next door!), and above all try to avoid Verrierdale, as there are no coffee shops, no hairdressers and no Noosa newspapers! What a dreadful place to live! Dom Massoni, a very proud Verrierdale resident.
J amieson is right I agree wholeheartedly with Mayor Jamieson and the team responsible for the two-page spread, “The facts about Eumundi, Doonan, Verrierdale and Weyba Downs” in The Green (21 Aug 2014). There is not one point of substance to support a claim of a community relationship between the EDV area and Sunshine Coast Council—and inferring any SCC relationship with the old Maroochy Shire and their more than a century of history with Eumundi and environs, is grasping at straws. In direct contrast, simple common sense acknowledges the long term ongoing EDV area relationship—quite disparate to points further south—with Noosa Shire. The three almost equidistant hinterland towns of Pomona, Cooroy, and Eumundi (EDV) through to the coast have always created community around the Noosa hub. It has provided regular access to all services and recreation on a distance basis alone, particularly over the last forty years, as well as reinforcing common values and bonds of community, stability and sustainability. Values many of us have recognised and fought to protect—and want to see legitimised and maintained for future generations. The truth is, a silent majority is just that,
without a vocal thinking minority. We live in a unique place where beautiful things are easily destroyed by self interest and poor planning — and that is why all residents of Noosa Shire should not be shy to tell their Councillors or write to Local Government Minister, Mr David Crisafulli: that a democratic vote on a boundary redraw is in the best interests of every resident of this area—preferably before we all find ourselves waiting at traffic lights at… “Doonan Central…” or “Eumundi South?” Mike Gibson, Doonan.
A SIMPLE SOLUTION The EDV’s main aim is simple and straightforward – we want an independent Boundary Commissioner appointed to decide whether a boundary change is indeed what the majority of residents of Eumundi, Doonan, Verrierdale, Weyba Downs and Peregian West, want. All the sniping and the “he said, she said” type of stuff we’ve been reading in the press lately would all cease with one simple directive – the appointment of a totally independent referee. Why not put all the opinions, views, reasonings and rants of all of us to one side and listen to what an independent Boundary Commissioner has got to say. Surely, we can all at least agree on that. Raynette Mitchell, Doonan.
5 0 years married Congratulations to local couple Maureen and Lyle Yates who are celebrating 50 years of marriage this week. They were married in Brisbane on 17 October 1964. They met at the Darra picture theatre when Lyle was only 17 and Maureen 14. Their daughter Stacey, son Jason, son in-law Troy and grandchildren Riley, Mason and Indiana wish them many more years of happiness together.
WA K E U P E U M U N D I Verridale - Community Hall. Doonan Service Station plus a few other businesses. Eumundi - Ah! A picturesque little town on the headwaters of the Maroochy River which is known far and wide for its famous Markets, so called The Eumundi Markets. Would you like to see the name changed to Noosa Markets at Eumundi? Or see the revenue from the carpark end up in the pockets of the Noosa Council? No? Then wake up Eumundi and honour the heroes who line the streets of your town. Who loved Australia but most of all, loved their town. Stay free Eumundi, far from the clutches of Noosa. G. Uren, Eumundi.
