Notes

Eumundi’s elves have been working in overdrive these last couple of weeks preparing all of the amazing end of year festivities for our community: night markets, sculpture unveiling, street closures, graduation ceremonies, workshops, school formals, carols, concerts - and local artists have been burning the midnight oil too making beautiful gifts that come from the heart. The Green team’s present to the community is the eight page Eumundi gift guide (page 13). It’s filled with gift ideas that show you what’s available locally and we hope inspire you to ‘love local – shop local.’ Not only does buying locally help grow your creative community but it proudly shows loved ones where you come from – the best market township in Australia – and that their friendship and love is unique and cherished – just like your gift.

Community C rash on local R oad not fatal Last Thursday at 4pm a 27-yearold man was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with serious injuries, following a three car crash on Eumundi Noosa Rd. The man had to be cut free and was trapped for over an hour before being removed from the crash. It is unconfirmed but believed that all people in the vehicles were locals. The two other drivers escaped with minor injuries. Forensic crash

unit officers attended the scene. Local woman Chris Sutton had the RACQ Emergency Helicopter land on her property to access the site. The crash has left the tight-knit 4562 community shaky, as the road is used so regularly, and in light of the recent Doonan service station crash.

AGAINST JOINING EDV On Thursday 13 November a meeting was held in Verrierdale, for the Sunshine Coast Alliance Group. The guest speakers were Dep. Mayor Chris Thompson, Cr Ted Hungerford and Cr Greg Rogerson. They had lots of positives about the forward plans for the Sunshine Coast Council and to show their support for the northern part of the Sunshine Coast Council. The Honourable Minister for Noosa

Glen Elms was [asked] to attend, but declined. Many years ago the then Maroochy Shire Council (now the Sunshine Coast Council), allowed large farms in our area to be cut up into smaller allotments, which meant our visitors from across the borders could come and live in our beautiful part of Australia. Unfortunately these people do not understand our heritage and culture which the SCAG want to protect.

Be Fit

In the lead up to Christmas, Eumundi will be aglow as the town is transformed into a festive wonderland on Friday 5, 12 and 19 of December. The fabulous night markets will have more than 150 stalls selling handcrafted gifts and serving gourmet food under the lights. This year will also see Memorial Dr closed for pedestrians and performers. Eumundi will become a festival of light and colour with: Discover Eumundi building becoming an animated Santa’s Workshop, Caplick Park an enchanted forest, a magnificent Eumundi ‘kitchen cutlery’ Christmas Tree, Santa’s Wishing Chair, the unveiling of the inaugural Experience Eumundi Sculpture Prize, Classic Car parades and a children’s lantern spectacle - to name but a few highlights! Shops down the main street are getting into the spirit too with sparkly light displays. There will be wonderful craft activities on offer for the kids with local artists Anne Harris and

Analiese Long, plus a team of creative parents from Noosa Pengari Steiner School hosting the Rainbow Christmas Craft Tent at the Eumundi Night Markets on Friday 5, 12 and 19 Dec from 5 – 8pm and on Saturdays 6, 13 and 20 December from 9am – 2pm. Cost is by donation, with money raised helping to support a local family, the Burrell’s, who lost loving husband and dad Clay Burrell, who sadly passed away in September. There’s also wreath making classes with florist Nat Westrup (details page 24). Everyone can get involved with making lanterns in the lead-up to Christmas, then join in the Eumundi Lantern Parade on Friday 19, as well as opening the Eumundi Xmas Carols at the Amphitheatre on Saturday 20. Thanks to the efforts of all the businesses and market operators in town, this Christmas promises to be something very special and sparkly for the whole community.

I’m pleased to announce that works to improve the Eumundi Scout Hall have finally been completed and it is anticipated that the tender will be advertised in the next two to four weeks. (Fingers crossed.) I have sought for the usual tender submission period of 21 days to be extended a further week or so to provide community groups with more time to prepare submissions. A public viewing day at the hall will be held within the first week of the tender being open. This is an ideal opportunity for all potential tenderers and community groups to have a good squiz at the facility and formulate the best proposal to be put forward.

timed parking in other areas will recommence following the finalisation of the traffic management review. Council’s parking officers continue to monitor no stopping areas and disabled parking bays.

Parking confusion cleared up

Sports Person Extraordinaire

Council’s parking officers monitor compliance with parking regulations in Eumundi to ensure the safety of road users and pedestrians, along with helping to support customer flow for businesses in the area. An extensive traffic management review is currently underway in Eumundi to ensure traffic signage conforms with the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (Queensland), within the meaning of the Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1995. The manual contains the design and methods, standards and procedures relating to every sign installed on Sunshine Coast roads. This includes signs and line markings. Council is currently re-educating drivers in relation to the timed parking zones in Memorial Avenue via fact sheets and caution notices. Penalty infringement notices will be issued for any noncompliance from Monday, November 24. Regulation of

While I’m heaping praise on outstanding Hinterland people, I would like to congratulate an exceptional sportswoman who is doing herself and the whole Sunshine Coast Community proud. Shara Gillow hailing from Belli Park has been and will continue to set the world cycling scene alight. Shara won the Oceania titles earlier this year to qualify for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and competed on the world stage for the ‘Orica Green Edge’ professional cycling team. Already a joint national record holder of three consecutive Australian Road Time Trial Titles with Kathy Watt, Shara narrowly missed a fourth title with a silver medal in this year’s event. Mid-January, Shara is off to join the ‘Raboliv’ European Cycling Team and will be riding alongside World Champion Marianne Vos. What a fantastic advocate for the sport and for the Sunshine Coast. Go Shara – Go Belli Park – Go Sunshine Coast!

A big congratulations to Sally Hookey and Peter Heineger who collected two gongs at this year’s Sunshine Coast Business awards. Their business, Hinterland Feijoas, is Australia’s first certified organic feijoa orchard. Not only are Sally and Peter great at what they do, they’re also wonderful people as well and it’s terrific to see their efforts rewarded.

Community P R O P O S E D F light path E N F L A M E S comm u nit y The recent airport extension community meeting chaired by Eumundi local Sue Shields, with the GM of Sunshine Coast Airport Peter Pallot, Cr Greg Rogerson and Cr Steve Robinson, and a packed CWA hall of concerned locals, left many people on both sides feeling dissatisfied. Locals voiced that they felt disregarded, upset and rushed into putting in submissions against the new flight path proposal. In response, Sunshine Coast Council (SCC) expressed surprise, indicating they had letter dropped and advertised the proposed extension across the region. When the large group audience were asked who had received information in their letterbox, only five raised their hands. When asked by the group why this region felt ignored Cr Rogerson said, “I do not think the runway alignment really has much to do with Eumundi at all.” People then asked why it wasn’t advertised in the Green? To which Cr Rogerson

Chief areas of concern. Fuel dumping, dust and fumes. Mr Pallot said aircraft do not fuel dump – fuel is too expensive and the practice is against regulation. Only in extreme emergencies is it acceptable.

replied, “It wasn’t put in the Green because it doesn’t directly affect you.”

Noise.

Local man Dingo said he came to Eumundi to grow fruit and veg and a friend who lives in Marcoola has lots of soot falling on his property that has to be regularly cleaned. An enraged parent asked, “You’re going to poison us – do you even care?” The councillors were asked if they would extend the deadline for submissions as public needed more time to absorb the implications. Both Councillors declined, citing that was not possible and ample time had been given for submissions. Cr Robinson said the project has been on display in Cooroy library and advertised in the local papers. Both councillors Rogerson and Robertson voted for the extension to go ahead which upset some who felt this was against what their constituency wanted.

After the meeting a SCC representative said the only area of the local region that would truly be affected by the extension was the Yandina Creek region on the edge of Verrierdale.

In 2020 the number of arrivals flying over Eumundi during the day will increase by 0-3. Departures will increase by 0-3. During the night arrivals and departures will increase over Eumundi by 0-1. Average altitude for flights over Eumundi is 7,000 feet for departures and 4000 for arrivals. Who is paying for the upgrade?

Submissions against the airport extension are now closed and left the group in attendance angry and dissatisfied. In addition, confusion about the actual need for the new flight path with a the subsequent extended level of Council debt left locals baffled.

Answer was not given.

From the mood of the meeting, it would seem that no amount of promises, simulations or statistics will allay the fears for many locals who have chosen to live in this part of the world because of the clean air and quiet, semi-rural lifestyle.

Said the airport continues to make substantial payments on that debt.

Fast rail service to Brisbane? Too expensive. Why not extend the existing runway? Too expensive and stifles expansion. It would cost too much to dig up David Low Way and put in a tunnel.

1800 210 755 or info@SCAexpansion.com.au

Airport already has a $30,000,000 debt – why should we trust this project?

Why do we want this in our region? For economic growth and to be competitive. What happens if it doesn’t get the go-ahead? Mr Pallot said they would look at it again or shut the existing airport.

Arts A piece of S wedish C hristmas

Claudette Betterridge like an S and knäck cookies that you could lose a tooth on – “but it’s worth it,” she laughed. “The adults would sing and dance and drink lots of shots of glögg – a very strong spirit.”

My visit to Yenny Stromgren’s studio felt like stepping into Santa’s Workshop. It was a hub of festive industry and everywhere I looked I was greeted with elements of Yenny’s craftsmanship and heritage materializing before my eyes. Yenny is busy cutting original Christmas decorations from sustainable Alder wood and her Eumundi workshop smells like the woody, fresh scent of the forest. Yenny said, “It’s why I love making my decorations so much at this time of year – the smell of the wood – the forest.” “Each one is a little piece of me and Sweden,” Yenny shared.

Growing up in Sweden, Yenny explained that Christmas was always very cold with lots of snow. The whole extended family would get together on Christmas Eve. “By early evening it was already very dark and everyone would make special lollies and ginger cookies

together while an Uncle or my Dad would “go to get the paper” in the snow, then come back dressed up as Santa with a big sack,” Yenny reminisced. Yenny said the food and drink was very traditional: saffron buns with raisins that you twist

T he Dala Horse is a traditional Swedish design and the red colour Yenny uses to paint her heart-shaped decorations is the same that’s painted on the houses throughout the Swedish countryside. Each year Dirt by Earth creates an annual snowflake design.

T he Moose is a strong symbolic reminder of Yenny’s homeland as these majestic beasts are common in the province of Halsingland, where she grew up.

Having now lived in Australia for 15 years Yenny looks forward to more Aussie traditions now like seafood, a barbie and going to the beach. But she still shares some traditions with her young family, like decorating the tree and making ginger cookies together. And in her workshop crafting her alder wood decorations, the smell takes her back to Christmas in Sweden.

T h e at re I ndee T heatre There’ll be a wonderland of bargains at The Indee’s two day memorabilia and theatrical clothing sale on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 Dec at the Eumundi School of Arts Hall. The Indee team has spent many weeks auditing its assets and cataloguing its possessions. We must confess to a fair amount of time spent discussing the various shows in which the bibs and bobs were featured. It’s hard not to, when so many memories are paraded one after another. This is a one-off weekend opportunity to retain a tangible memory of your soon to disappear local live theatre. You might choose something to go on the wall or desk, or something to wear and be remarked upon. “Oh, this was worn by Samantha, in The Philadelphia Story.” Or, “That’s the mace that featured on the

John Burls

weapons wall in Deathtrap.” Or , “This is the gown worn by Lady Bracknell in Pygmalion.” Over the past twenty years The Independent Theatre has presented many shows that were set in greatly differing periods and clothing for these was either specially designed and made, or purchased. Over the years a large number of folk have donated items, many of them valuable, to the theatre’s collection. But now the time has arrived to cull the herd and this presents an opportunity for everyone to shop for the unusual, for personal enjoyment and/or for gifts. Costumes, clothing from many eras, props, collectables, essential pieces from various landmark shows and much more will all be on sale. Pick up an oddity or a whole new wardrobe at bargain prices and feel free to make an offer. So make a note of it in the diary, for the weekend of Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 December, at the Eumundi School of Arts Hall, Corner Memorial Dr and Pacey St, both days between 10 am and 3 pm. For all enquiries call Carol 5472 8200.

M o v ie re v iew For our final session of 2014 Eumundi World Cinema comes home to Oz. Our feature is Ten Canoes, an award winning film by Rolf De Heer set in Arnhem Land, long before Western contact. It’s a story within a story. An elder, Minygululu has three wives and realizes that his younger brother Dayindi may try to steal away the youngest wife. With a very humorous narration by David Gulpilil, the film won numerous Australian Film Institute awards and the Special Jury Prize in Un Certain Regard at Cannes in 2006. If you haven’t joined yet, don’t

worry - come as a guest on the night. You can join for next year’s season when we’ll be choosing our movies by genre and region. Our AGM will be held on Wednesday 10 Dec at 6pm followed by delicious food at 6.40pm and 7pm movie start. eumundiworldcinema.com 21

Books DOUGLAS MAWSON: EXPLORER

EUMUMDI BOOK CLUB RECOMMENDS – THE YEAR I N B O O K S Judith Pattison

Hugo Lamarque, Year 5, ESS Ignite English If you are like me and have never heard of Douglas Mawson, then I suggest you read the book, Meet… Douglas Mawson. Packed with smashing illustrations by Snip Green accompanying the epic adventure written by Mike Dumbleton, this book is the perfect read for budding explorers of all ages.

In anticipation of the “reading season”, I asked members of my book club (the Eumundi Book Club) to consider their reading choices over the past year and make some recommendations for Green readers. This is a group of omnivorous readers both inside and outside the book club, who really invest themselves in books. I’ll let them speak for themselves. Debbie McPhail said, “Earlier this year, I read This is the Story of a Happy Marriage by Ann Patchett and I find myself continually going back to it. It’s about much more than its title. A series of personal and heart-warming memoirs, it’s a great book for people wanting to write because it shows that even the smallest of events make good stories. Through relatable storytelling, it reveals the woman that Patchett is, the roles she has taken on in life and how they have shaped her.” Simon Manning recommended Deep Survival: Who lives, Who dies and Why by Laurence Gonzales. “I bought this book before boarding a flight to Africa. It changed my life. Why? It forced me to think about how I interact with the world and how I can improve my chances of surviving whilst living on this planet.” Bronwyn Jones said, “The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flanagan was my selection for the book club and it remains for me the most impressive novel I’ve read this year. It’s an extraordinary and heartbreakingly beautiful work

Berkelouw’s Christmas tree photo thanks to Leo Wiles. on a grand scale. However, my favourite club read has been Tim Winton’s Eyrie. It may not have a flawless plot line, but the black humour, savage commentary and sheer brilliance of description make for a wild and exhilarating read.”

They were planted in the memory of the 20 men who enlisted in Eumundi in WW1 and never returned. Each tree has a plaque with the man’s name and some details including how they died, when and where.

In conclusion, it is a compelling book and a great read for everybody everywhere - even if you live in the Antarctic!

Part of the “MEET” series, it combines simple but intriguing pictures with the adventure of Douglas. Concise, yet enjoyable, it gives a happy and adventurous feeling. Throughout the book, facts are combined with a true adventure, accompanied by exciting picture book creativity.

Judy Powell shared, “When I started reading Narrow Road to the Deep North, I found it patchy - a bit confusing. I am - I admit it - lazy, so had I not been a member of the book club I might not have persevered. I am so glad I did. This is one of the most remarkable books I’ve ever read. Profound. Funny. Brilliantly written. Thanks book club!” As for me, I loved Evie Wyld’s All the Birds Singing and The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. A sprawly, messy book, but so, so satisfying.

SEARCH FOR ANZAC INFO You may have noticed the plaques on the large Fig Trees in Memorial Drive.

The images create a fantastic feeling of adventure and for what the book is, I would certainly recommend it.

As we know, there are merely weeks left until we celebrate the festive season in our own personal ways. For many of us it is a time for card and gift giving to family and friends. In our family we like to “make” as often as we can, involving found treasures from the environment around us. Our children like to be involved in these activities. Here is a card making idea we enjoy.

• Hammer, mallet, rolling pin, small stone or piece of wood • White or pale coloured card/thick paper • Baking paper or paper towel Method 1. Fold card in half to make a greeting card. 2. Place flora on card in all areas you wish to decorate (including herbs can add a scent element.) 3. Cover the flower & leaf arrangement with baking paper, being careful not to

4. Initially, tap gently over the plants to release the natural dyes within the flowers and leaves onto the card. You can apply more pressure by hammering harder. Continue until you reach the desired effect. Remove the baking paper and as the plant juices dry, remove the remainder of the plant from the card. Try this at home, or join us in December at Eumundi Markets! This activity and other nature crafts will be available for children of all ages to enjoy. Happy crafting! hinterlandmama.com

Eat

NO POULTRY AFFAIR Max Porter

It’s no small thing to cook well and make others happy with our cooking endeavours – a beautiful meal lovingly prepared is a gift. When you enjoy the process, everybody is rewarded – and this buttermilk chicken and spaghetti of zucchini is a joy to make and will always evoke fond festive memories. I use the magic of buttermilk to tenderise farm fresh chicken in this recipe. And once you try the zucchini you may never eat pasta again. Good health, happy times! Buttermilk chicken and spaghetti of zucchini

2 beaten eggs in a bowl.

Makes 4

• 2 kg ripe tomatoes, blanched, skinned, seeds removed and chopped rough

*Everything can be done in advance and finished in a matter of minutes.

Virgin Mary pasta sauce

• 1 lt tomato juice • 200 mls extra virgin olive oil

The chicken

• 1 med onion finely chopped

• 4 x 140 gm (approx.) boned organic chicken thighs, skin removed

• 3 cloves of garlic chopped

• 250 mls cultured buttermilk • Sea salt, ground white pepper Method Place the chicken in the buttermilk mixture and refrigerate overnight. The crust Place 4 slices of gluten free bread in a food processor to make fine crumbs. In a bowl add the crumbs, 75 gm finely grated pecorino cheese, 2 tbsp polenta and pepper. 1 cup gluten free flour on a plate.

Lightly thicken with the potato flour - make sure you give it a good stir first. Turn the pot off.

In a heavy based saucepan add a generous portion of tomato sauce.

The spaghetti of zucchini

Bring to the boil and add the zucchini.

• 4 med zucchini washed, topped and tailed. Place a large bowl under your V or mandolin slicer.

• 2 tbsp potato flour dissolved in a little water

Work your way around the zucchini over the blade to form your spaghetti - be careful the blade is sharp.

• 1 cup pitted and sliced black olives

Run fingers through threads to loosen and put aside.

• 4 tbsp baby capers

Now we are ready to go

• 6 fresh thyme leaves

Drain chicken well, dredge in flour then egg, and lastly press into crumbs.

Place the olive oil, onions, garlic and tomato juice in a heavy based pan and bring to the simmer and reduce by half. Add chopped tomatoes, olives, capers and fresh thyme, then stir well and simmer for approx. 30 minutes. Season with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper. 24

Heat a heavy based frypan, add some sunflower oil and a knob of butter. Place a couple of chicken pieces in, brown one side and flip over to finish cooking. Repeat the process with the other pieces. Take out to let rest.

{ T H E G R E E N 27 November 2014

Serve on warm plates with chicken and a good slice of lemon. *The chicken can be cooked in advance and served as Christmas picnic fare. *The tomato sauce makes enough for a dozen serves. Living F esti v e C oastal C hristmas setting I created a relaxed yet festive Coastal Christmas table setting for four on the verandah that’s quick and easy with a vintage and nautical twist. Firstly cover the table with a white tablecloth, then drape an old fishing net across the middle as the table runner. If you don’t want to use a fish net, you could use a hessian runner or perhaps brown paper. Then I put out Percy the seagull as my centrepiece, added some

Sally Outon

gorgeous vintage glass fishing floats along the runner to give a little blue and green colour, and then added some starfish and shells. Set the table with white plates, blue and white napkins, bonbons and palm leaves to add a bit more colour - and some small ceramic bowls on top.

Outdoors OUTDOORS NEWS

LIFE ON A BETTER RIDGE Claudette Betterridge

Next Bellbunya swap-meet cafe & healing day is Thursday 27 Nov at 114 Browns Rd, Belli Park, (13 km from Eumundi on Eumundi Kenilworth Rd). Organic Cafe food and produce swaps; meditation; and free talk with permaculture farmer Dan McGough back from working in Sweden. Kestrel 5447 0181 or Bellbunya.org.au.

A natural celebration Christmas on the ridge will be celebrated the way nature does it. We’ll make a showy display of all the things that make us who we are. We’ll decorate to attract beneficial passers-by and we’ll delight in nourishing them with our sweet nectar. All year we have been preparing the gifts we will give over the festive season. Just as you have written your Christmas wish lists, we’ve spent many hours planning and choosing what to give. Just as you’ve bought presents throughout the year and stowed them away to be wrapped at a later date, we’ve stored ours safely within the soils. Each gift we give will be a celebration of our year; carefully planted, nourished, grown and lovingly shared. These gifts are infused with the same energy that went into their creation. Within each twist of vine in a basket or juicy burst of flavour in a jar of relish is the relief that came with the rain that finally fell after a long hot week, the gratitude for the warmth of the sun on a cold winter’s

morning and the positive intentions for strong healthy growth that accompanied the moisture in every hand-drawn bucket of recycled water. As the year draws to a close and we slip into a somewhat slower pace, the gifts we create serve to remind us of each of the major events of 2014. Each different ingredient of the final product helps to affirm the choices we make and provides us with the opportunity to share ourselves in a meaningful way with the ones we love. Of all the traditions we participate in, this natural, homegrown one is by far my favourite. From our Ridge to yours, I wish you a Christmas filled with the peace and reverence that nature encourages us to share.

In our world of mass consumption where most people have everything they need and more, what does one buy for Christmas presents? The local Sam family have created a campaign called Give a Gift that Keeps on Giving, that gives people the opportunity to make an extraordinary difference in the lives of others. You can purchase gifts that are truly needed: mosquito nets, seeds, garden tools, water filters, educational resources, sports equipment. These items are then donated to people of Nyangidi village in Kenya where the family of the AfricanAustralian Sam Family still live. Gift givers also get a beautiful ‘thank you card’ and photo to keep for themselves or present to a loved one. This project empowers from the grassroots, creating conscious and sustainable change in a

The Sam family will deliver the donated gifts when they take their children and a small group of volunteers from the Sunshine Coast on an African Adventure to the village and Safari to see the animals. Outdoors W I L D L I F E R E H A B I L AT I O N C E N T R E N E W S Helen Hepburn It’s that time of year once again when the birdcages and aviaries at the Centre fill to capacity. As I write this article, conditions are not going well in the great outdoors. The very hot and dry spring takes its toll on nesting birds. Water and feed are becoming scarce and kind people who find lost baby birds are bringing them in to be cared for by Gill and her team of helpers. Birds of all varieties: tawny frogmouths, robins, parrots, doves and fig birds are all brought in daily. The bird in the photo was brought in from Boreen Point and is a very handsome Whistling Kite (Haliastur sphenurus). This bird of prey was found on the ground and Gill believes it hadn’t fledged.

Apparently there had been a nasty storm in the area, which included hail, so maybe the bird was dislodged from its nest or even attacked by something as it has lacerations to its head and face. It was a lucky find as birds become dehydrated quite quickly with no parents to feed them, especially with the weather being so hot. Whistling Kites live near watercourses, lakes, mudflats and also in timbered areas close to water, where they hunt for small mammals and fish – they’ll even eat carrion. Boreen Point would be a perfect and typical area to find these them. Gill has asked that young birds be brought straight to the Centre as soon as they are found, as most have specific feed requirements.

Letters W E WA N T T H I S C H A N G E How many reasons do we need to discuss before the will of the overwhelming majority of the EDV community is granted? There is only one point that matters and that is that the majority of the residents want this change. Not 51% which would be sufficient, but a whopping 80%. Mayor Mark Jamieson and councilor Stephen Robinson, it is NOT time we moved on. But it IS time that you started listening to your constituents. Your opinions in this matter were not requested. We are telling you very clearly that we want this change. You were elected to represent your electorate, so just do your job. It would matter not if the entire Sunshine Coast wanted to become part of the Noosa Shire, for that is how democracy works. Of the people, by the people, and for the people. The decision rests in the hands of the electors. Do not underestimate the importance of this issue everyone. Give up on the economic and snobbery issues and place a higher value on democracy, for this is what is really at stake. Rick Palfery, Eumundi.

P R O B L E M W I T H T H AT 8 0 % There’s still a problem with the EDV’s much quoted 80 per cent approval. In fact, there are a few problems. The first survey was a doorknock and I assert that firstly, this is a coercive and manipulative method of gauging someone’s opinion and that secondly, most people were simply too polite to argue. “Oh well, it sounds like a good idea...” can be spun out by a corporate manipulator to a “yes, we approve.” And presto – 80 per cent! We were visited too. It was difficult and quite confronting to have to say, “No, we don’t like the idea actually, it’s snobby and un-Australian.” Our visitor quickly departed in a real huff. The second survey has already been debunked. As several people pointed out, it carries no more weight than an opt-in customer survey that you’d fill in on the

RU B B I S H D U M P E D O N ROADSIDE On Tuesday night at 7pm a white ute with a lawn mowing trailer was spotted on Eumundi Range Rd, doing a sneak y dumping on the side of the road. The ute and trailer were parked just near the railway overpass, with their lights off. I thought it very odd at the time. Low and behold, on my way to work the next morning, there is a pile of rubbish there (a timber frame, and a metal sofa bed frame). NOT COOL! I’m not a hippy tree hugger, but this is beyond the joke. Scrap metal costs $0 to dump, and the timber frame could go in with the

next green load to the dump. I’m sure this lawnmower/landscaper charged a customer to remove this. Do the right thing. Daryl Pierce, Eumundi.

back of a cereal packet in the vain hope of winning a prize. A more fundamental and divisive problem is that it would seem that many of those pushing this idea along have only recently moved into this locality. There has been a spectacular lack of sensitivity towards the long-term inhabitants of this area who again, may not feel that strongly about it but were simply too polite to say “no” to the doorknockers. You see, all of a sudden there was a vocal minority of new arrivals telling the rest of us how bad things were with the status quo and yet how good things would be should we allow ourselves to become part of Noosa Shire.

everything in there - except for her iPad mini. It has a purple hard case with a key board. We’re offering a $50 reward. Phone/ text 0477083111 or hand to the school office. Thank you, Ruth Iriondo

So, yet again, this community demands a real case from the EDV, not just a “gut feeling” or an aspirational need to have the “Noosa Brand.” Damien, Eumundi
