“This is a short note to thank Fiona Winter for her assistance in our recent house sale in Doonan. Fiona developed an excellent sales strategy and implemented tactically at an optimum level. Nothing was too difficult and she thinks solutions and not problems. Having worked with some of her “supposed” competitors on the Sunshine Coast over the last few years it was a very pleasant experience working with Fiona. Her knowledge of the local market and her advice was first rate. I wouldn’t use any other business for my next sale or purchase on the Coast and recommend her unreservedly and am happy to speak on her behalf to anyone.” Regards Tom Culleton

Notes Editor’s note ... One of the wonderfully unique things about the Green is sometimes, no matter how hard designer Lil and I try, a section jumps its pages and pushes out other content. The Green reflects the interests and happenings of the hinterland community and there’s an amazing positive energy vibrating through the businesses in our region at the moment. At the recent Food and Agribusiness Networking lecture, I was inspired to see so many local producers, business owners and tourism boards there: Sally from Hinterland Feijoas was planning an ice cream with Norman from Colin James; Berk Café’s Nina was talking tourist destinations with Cath from Visit Sunshine Coast; Ned from Bo Ho found a local source for camel milk and grass fed beef; Andy from Gourmet Garden was talking marketing with Brodee from Taste magazine. If your business is food you’ve gotta get along to the next event – it’s even in Eumundi! Working for the community!

Business NEW MEMORIAL DR BUSINESSES ALL ENTHUSIASM Every year Eumundi’s main street attracts people from across the Coast and nationally who pin their hopes of a lifestyle change by opening a business venture on Memorial Drive. And even though it’s just a small country town of around 2600, Eumundi can seem like a sure thing thanks to the huge swell of people the markets bring to town twice a week. But the community sees new businesses open and close every year – some lasting no more than a month – others becoming successful but moving onto bigger premises ‘up the road’. The Australian Securities and Investments Commission released a report into insolvencies that found 44% of small businesses suffered poor management, 40% had inadequate cash flow and 33% suffered from trading losses. Greg Hayes from Hayes Knight Accountants & Advisers concurred, reporting the key reasons small businesses struggle to survive are: lack of capital, lack of proper training, or starting with a bad idea that was never destined to work.

Recently Eumundi has had a new injection of enthusiastic business owners excited to make a go of it. Eumundi Chamber of Commerce president Andy Dudas said people continue to be attracted to opening a small business here because of the “event” the township has two days a week. He said that with more houses being built and so many people keen to move here for the lifestyle there’s certainly

a demand, but said opening a business in Eumundi wasn’t for the faint hearted. “For a business to work you need to cater to locals as well as tourists and open seven days a week. “I’ve been a chef for 27 years and The Fig Tree Café isn’t just for visitors ; it’s for the locals and tradies too.” Andy added, “It’s about service – you have to love it and run an owner/ operator

business for it to work.” On a busy Thursday recently with not a free carpark in sight, The Green visited a number of new business owners on Memorial Dr and found their shops humming with new owners full of enthusiasm and fantastic ideas. All are keen to inject their passion and experience into their businesses and Eumundi. Cont’d on pg 6

Experienced baker Len Grant and his front of house wife Zoe (pictured) recently became the owners of the newly named Hideaway Bakery in the Eumundi Village shops. The Pomona couple moved from the Gold Coast in search of a lifestyle change. With the surprising closure of the town’s other bakery, Zoe is happy to come to the rescue of the village with bakery essentials and treats. The shop with its courtyard and tables out the front, was three deep when The Green visited recently.

Business There was a lovely energy at Bohemian Bungalow when the Green visited recently with over half the restaurant’s tables full of lunch time diners on a non-market day. New owner, restauranteur and chef Ned Nolan (pictured left) researched his move to the village whilst still living in Hong Kong and managing a chain of up-scale restaurants. Ned said he was attracted to the lifestyle Eumundi offered his young family and the opportunity to champion his passion for local produce at his new vibrant business. “I’ve been looking for unique, local produce that I can highlight,” Ned explained.

In search of bigger premises, Eumundi’s renowned Mayan healer Andrea Lopez (pictured) moved her traditional health and healing centre, Secrets of the Honey Tree, from Sunspace to a warm and welcoming space off Memorial Dr (behind the old bakery). When the Green visited the busy Centre with its private carpark, it had back to back appointments for practitioners who include: Barefoot physiotherapist and acupuncturist Andrew Pike; midwife and pregnancy workshop facilitator Beth Newman; and Japanese acupuncturist Nadja Ostro. Also on offer at the Centre are: men’s health talks, sound healing, yoga and meditation sessions. secretsofthehoneytree.com.au.

Camel milk is already on the menu and there’s the promise of locally raised beef cooked in the restaurant’s new Smoke House come spring. Ned has exciting plans for Bo Ho and is determined to become a showpiece for Eumundi and the Coast.

Natural Therapy student Marissa Maloney can’t get enough museli. She was going through so much she decided to start making her own completely organic, roasted mix of grains and nuts. When friends and family started to covert her recipe, she decided to try selling it. When the Green visited her on her first day of baking and mixing in Annie’s Commercial Kitchen in Eumundi Village (off Memorial Dr), the kitchen smelled amazing. Miranda works for Mel at the Eumundi Coffee cart on market days and will be selling her new product there from this week.

The free Windows 10 upgrade option will be finished by the time you read this. There have been mixed feelings about Windows 10 with many people disliking it, some loving it and most indifferent. As far as operation and stability goes, Windows 10 is ok. It gets rid of the worst features of Windows 8 while keeping the ones that work well for touchscreen or tablet form devices, however many system settings are still confusingly split between the traditional desktop control panel and the Windows 10 “Settings” screen.

Most people’s woes with Windows 10 arise from the upgrade process. In my experience around 80% of the time the upgrade runs ok, but occasionally it doesn’t, introducing bugs that include system instability, crashes, a very slow system and random issues with opening and closing certain programs and Windows features. However in most cases these issues can be resolved by doing a Windows 10 Reset via the Recovery Options menu. A Reset is like reinstalling Windows 10 from scratch, however you have the option of keeping your files intact, or wiping them all. Note that both options remove all your software so you need to reinstall all your programs again (ie, MS Office, photo software, accounting software, third party browsers etc). In some instances this won’t help due to driver incompatibility on the hardware itself, and it can be a better option to reinstall your laptop to the operating system it came with ie. Windows 7 or 8.

BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT EUM UN DI SQUA R E A N D PA R KSIDE M A R K E TS Louis Formosa, owner What and where is your business? Eumundi Parkside Market (Memorial Drive); Eumundi Service Station & General Store (Memorial Drive); Eumundi Square Micro Business Development (1-8 Napier Road); Our Village – Eumundi – (Cnr Memorial Dr and Caplick Way); Kalkura (Macadamia farm Coleus Rd, Eumundi). How long have you been in business in Eumundi? Since 1988 after we moved to Australia from London. What made you choose Eumundi to base your business? Eumundi is a hinterland town located at the entrance to Noosa and has a wonderful climate. The town needed a lot of improvements back then, but showed opportunity and potential (and certainly still does). What is the best thing about working here? Throughout the years, we’ve seen many market stallholders and square operators learn how to create and grow their own businesses. Some have evolved and are now wholesaling, exporting or entering into leases for higher end retail establishments. We have also been able to harbour small businesses that have struggled in larger retail shops and have given them more suitable trading exposure. These achievements are very important and meaningful to us as our family business started small with no funding. What is the worst thing you’ve found about working here?

Straighten your kids teeth the natural way!

Myobrace targets the underlying causes of crooked teeth as soon as the problems are evident. Free assessment available.

Twilight sedation – get your dentistry done while you sleep. C A L L F O R M O R E I N F O R M AT I O N .

There is continuously a fight to gain badly needed infrastructure for the town such as a main street upgrade, and an intersection upgrade at Napier Rd. Poor decision making such as the Service Station closure which was heart breaking. Promotion and advertising of the town collectively is also difficult to achieve when there are “waves” of injudicious politics that dominates the scene and stifles progress. What would you like to see change in our business district? Installation of bus/school children shelters, pedestrian crossings, Memorial Dr beautification, entry/exit statements, more diverse community facilities, Napier Rd roundabout, retirement village, collective marketing and advertising. Less politics and separatism that has eaten away at the “the vibe” and focus on improving the Eumundi brand for all. Creating an environment where locals get to benefit from improved infrastructure, and can shop locally again and businesses are able to service both locals as well as visitors more than just two days a week. That would be a good start. iloveeumundimarkets.com

Community LIFELONG DOG LOVER COMPELLED TO HELP My compulsion to raise funds stems from a love of animals that I have had since early childhood. We always had three or four animals of varying sorts in our house - cats, dogs, mice, rabbits, guinea pigs - all were rejects from all over that I brought home. My parents were very patient! My earliest memory of dogs is our family’s Alsatian, Henry. He was ultra-protective of me and used to carry me around by the straps on my jodphurs when I was little. The other main memory still makes me sad. As a young child, our next door neighbours had a beautiful Kelpie that was kept on a chain about half a metre long... for his

entire life. They didn’t give him a name but the man was constantly yelling at the dog. I used to call him Gitty because the man was always screaming “Git down!” I spent much of my time sitting on the other side of the fence patting what I could reach of the dog through the fence gaps, talking to him and feeding him whatever I could. One day I told my Mum I wanted to ask the neighbour if I could take Gitty for a walk. We both went next door to ask - the man wasn’t home but his wife said I could walk him around the yard. When Mum let him off the chain he raced to me and licked me all over. He was just shaking so much. He ran

My best dog ever Baxter, was such an amazing dog. We visited a dementia ward each Friday together. He was much loved. I really miss him.

around and around me. We had a wonderful, furry hug... and then he had a seizure and died in my arms... freedom was too much for him. Dogs place so much trust in us, ask so little and yet give so much in return...I still dream of that poor Kelpie. I was about nine when Gitty died and I think that was the moment I vowed I would never pass by any animal in need. I’ve spent most of my life rescuing animals whenever possible. I formerly lived in Bundaberg and did fundraising for the RSPCA in many forms. Being on the founding committee to establish an animal refuge over 35 years ago was very fulfilling, so it is a long association for me.

The three hounds we moved to Doonan with three years ago; Baxter, Poppy and Drifter - all had suffered horrific cases of cruelty.

LANTERN MAKING FOR ANIMALS IN NEED Rotary member and Doonan local Bronwyn Innes is holding lantern making workshops on Saturdays until 3 September, 9am – 4pm at the Eumundi Rural Fire Station over the next nine weeks in the lead up to a community bush dance at the School of Arts which will be held later in the year by Eumundi Rotary. $85 with all materials supplied. There are large and small ones so people can adjust to what their skill levels are. The dog lanterns will make a magical display at the dance. The Eumundi and District Historical Association created the first town walk leaflet called “History Walk” around 1988, part of a bicentennial project which also included the erection of plaques on a number of buildings and sites around Eumundi. A

wooden hand painted sign showing a map with locations of the plaques was also produced and hung in the Eumundi museum which was then located in the two storey relocated cane cutters building (now the Original Eumundi Markets office). In the early to later 1990s the leaflet became a larger booklet with a lot more pages and information and was renamed

the Eumundi Historical Walk. This booklet showed buildings as they currently looked and had the business names and previous uses which meant the booklet needed updating quite often as businesses changed names and buildings change use. By this time the Eumundi museum had moved across the road to its current home in what had been the Uniting Church. Cont’d on pg 15

T R E E TA K E S O U T T O W N ’ S P O W E R During heavy rain and wind on the early evening of Sunday 19 June, a mature stringy bark tree in a residential front yard on Cook St, fell forward onto live power lines taking out the town’s power until the early hours of the morning. One local woman was taken to hospital for observation after being electrocuted when she touched the metal backyard fence of her Cook St property. At least three Cook St house fuse boxes are reported to have exploded.

Caplick Way and Cook St were completely blocked by the fallen power lines and Council clean up began in the early hours of Monday morning. The stringy bark tree was found to be termite ridden with little root system left. A twin mature stringy bark beside the fallen tree has also been found termite riddled and will be removed by the home owner. Luckily none of the Cook St houses were severely damaged, or any parked cars.

Cooroy’s new Pop-Up Shop, French & Vintage, has been doing terrifically well. “Everyone has been lovely” says Debra Palmen, the shop’s owner. “We’re still opening boxes from our latest shipment, so we bring something new into the shop every day.” With permission to extend their stay for an extra month, French & Vintage will remain open until 6 August, so there’s still time to come in and find a bargain. “It looks a lot like a warehouse” says Debra, “with shelving from our garage and market tables to display our stock. But no-one seems to notice that; they’re too busy looking at our stock – and our prices.” Big sellers have been French Art Deco glass, vintage enamelled kitchenware and wooden well buckets. “I wish I had bought more antique French well buckets”, laughs Debra. “I imported six but sold out within two weeks.” But there are still plenty of beautiful things to choose from, so why not pop up to visit this pop-up shop in Cooroy? It’s offering great things at unbeatable prices, but for a limited time only. Emerald Street, Cooroy (opposite the IGA) www.frenchandvintage.biz Ph: 0419 427 598

Health W H AT I S T H E K E Y T O S TAY I N G M O T I VAT E D ? Are you someone who starts an exercise regime hard and then stops? Do you start dieting and then only last two weeks? Well a big key is motivation. You need to realise your potential and your mindset, and have an awareness of yourself and your body. So what is motivation? Motivation is literally the desire to do things. It’s the crucial element to setting and attaining goals. Here are 10 tips to staying motivated:

Chart your progress Create a fitness goal and/or weight loss goal. Example: Do a fitness test then check your progress in six weeks. How many push ups can you do? How long can you wall sit for? As far as weight loss goes, don’t just look at the scales, measure yourself. Sometimes the scales don’t change if you’re gaining muscle but your measurements will. Keep a training log or download an app to track it. By doing this it can keep you motivated.

Get a coach or take a class These WILL motivate you to at least show up and take action. It can be applied to any goal. Personal training sessions are modified to meet your specific needs and give you one-on-one

motivation. Classes are more affordable and can be a great social experience with likeminded people.

Just start There are times when you don’t feel like going for your walk/run or to exercise class, but set a rule for yourself “just start”. Rather than sitting and thinking how tired you are or how time poor, tell yourself to just start and you will always feel better after it.

Don’t push too hard When starting a new exercise program you usually have lots of enthusiasm and excitement and want to get in and give 100%. Well this is the time to NOT PUSH TOO HARD. Go 75% and go slow, increase over a few weeks. Sometimes 100% is not attainable over a long period of time.

Anthea Wood, personal trainer

Put up a picture or write down a goal

Always be positive

Stick it on the fridge or somewhere where you can see it every day. Visualise your goal because that focus can keep you motivated.

Get a workout buddy Staying motivated on your own can be tough. If you have a buddy with similar goals you can encourage each other to succeed.

Find inspiration Inspiration is one of the best motivators. Find inspiration on a daily basis, it will help sustain motivation over the long term. Look for success stories, blogs, friends, apps, magazines or books.

Monitor your thoughts. Be aware of self-talk. We are our own worst enemies. If you hear negative thoughts stop them, push them out and replace them with positive thoughts. Positive thinking is amazingly powerful.

Give it time This is easier said than done, but the problem is that many of us want quick results. When you set goals you must set them long term. Be happy with your progress along the way, the results will come if you give it time. Be totally committed! allinpt.com.au.

Make a rule never to miss two days in a row Miss a day every now and then - we’re not perfect. But don’t miss a second day. Tell yourself no! If you fall off the wagon let it be for just a day.

Health CUTTING EDGE STUFF

Dr Jo Deverill, Emergency Medicine Specialist

Yow! You were in the kitchen, slicing a recalcitrant pumpkin with a very sharp knife, and then it went right through. Your finger. Blood everywhere. And now the veggies on the chopping board look like they’ve been done in a raspberry coulis, though this ain’t for vegetarians. Come to think of it, the pumpkin risotto might have to go on hold, while you’re off to Accident and Emergency (A&E). Dammit. One slip of the knife and the dinner party is ruined. So what do you do when you have sustained a nasty cut? Like just about everything else in life, don’t panic. Take a clean piece of fabric - say a tea towel, or your boyfriend’s shirt (ask him to take it off first), put it on the cut, and press. The human hand can exert enough pressure to stop any bleed, even if it is coming from an artery. Raise your hand above your head. (You can do the same with a bleeding foot, though do lie down first, unless you are a contortionist or some sort of Jane Fonda freak). Elevating a limb decreases the flow of blood to it, and the flow of blood out of it. Which is good, because you have only got so much and … Oh Lord there’s so much blood!

If you are the fainting sort, then lie down (with the affected part still elevated). Don’t try to walk around, or get up again, or the likelihood is that you will go crump and hit your head and then you really will be in hospital. Feeling better? Sure? Okay, let’s take a peek at what you’ve done. If the bleeding doesn’t stop after 10 minutes of pressure, if the wound is gaping or jagged, or if it is over a joint - then you’ll need to go to a doctor. Same if you can’t move or feel your finger normally. Finally, if you haven’t had a tetanus jab in the last 10 years, you’ll need a booster, though this can wait a

day if the wound is clean. Phew. It’s stopped bleeding. Actually the cut is only tiny amazing it could bleed that much - and you are feeling much better. Wash it under running tap water. No need for iodine - it stings, doesn’t reduce infection, and may even delay healing. A sticky plaster. Perfect. Let’s get a pizza. But first, you need a drink. Make it a Bloody Mary.

Winter is a perfect time for Pilates... We do it inside - so your body W heat will be warming the room by the second exercise! It builds your immune system (fewer colds for you!) and eliminates joint and muscle aches and pains. It releases endorphins... and, you even get to wrap your feet in cosy socks as you exercise. Most importantly, you’ll be fit and well to fight off the winter chills. PLUS don’t forget SUMMER bodies are made in WINTER!! Live Happy.

Soupe d’hiver au chou vert et au porc (Winter green cabbage and pork soup) Alain Bouvier This is a dish that I remember from my childhood as signifying the beginning of winter. It is a classic French dish which originates from the “paisans” (farmers), in the French countryside for whom both cabbage and pork were readily available and inexpensive. It has become a classic dish in France and is the perfect warming, hearty dish for a cold winter evening. At my home in Eumundi we love cooking with local in-season veggies, and in France it is normal to go to the market and see only in-season fruit and vegetables available. It is also common to use all cuts of meat - not just the prime cuts as we tend to do here in Australia. rinse thoroughly then chop into quarters.

Ingredients

• 1 Tblsp olive oil

• ½ green cabbage

• 4 free range pork ribs.

• 200 g leek

Method

• 120 g turnip

Remove the outer leaves of the leek; cut the dark-green ends from leeks, trim the end off (roots), but keep the leaves attached. Halve lengthwise and rinse to remove any grit. Pat dry; slice the leek.

Pour one tblsp olive oil in a large pot.

• 1 bunch of chervil

Wash, peel and dice carrots, turnip and celeriac.

• 20 g salted butter

Remove first leaves of cabbage,

Reduce heat to med-low if needed. Put ribs aside. Remove excess grease from pan and discard.

• 80 g celeriac • 1 stalk of celery • 40 g of penne frigate pasta (optional) • 1 bunch of flat parsley

Cut each of the ribs in half crosswise.

Cook ribs over med heat until lightly browned, approx 4-5 mins per side. Don’t colour meat too much.

On a low heat add butter and all chopped vegetables. Stir gently and cook until soft. Add 1.5 litres of water, ribs, parsley and a branch of celery. Add salt to taste. Gently bring to the boil and reduce to a simmer. Let simmer for one hour. Optional: 10-15 mins before the soup is ready, cook the penne rigate until al dente in a large pot of boiling salted water. Drain and add to the soup with the chopped chervil. Voila!

Heritage Cont’d from pg 9 Around 2008 after the Eumundi Museum had been renamed Discover Eumundi Heritage and Visitor Centre (DE) and incorporated with the town’s tourist information services, (the small hut known as the Eumundi Information Office), some major updating of this booklet was needed. It was decided to combine the stories behind the buildings, their previous uses and interesting stories with lots of colour photos and an easy to use map. Volunteers and staff at DE worked for a long time taking new photos, researching, writing, then fine tuning and simplifying the text to create a self-guided town walk leaflet that could be folded up and was easy to use and carry in a pocket or handbag. A number of trial walks were taken to see how the draft leaflet worked and

changes were then made to the copy and design concept. The professionally designed leaflet is now printed at DE as needed. Since its creation many hundreds have been printed and folded and given away, especially to visiting school groups. The Noosa Long Weekend Festival Eumundi’s Heritage Walk will take place on Thursday 21 July, 1pm at DE. Walk takes one and a half hours, ending back at the centre for an optional afternoon tea. GARDENING

Is anyone else struggling, like me, to believe that this year’s winter solstice has already been and gone? It feels far too quick, exacerbated by the fact that winter had brought us barely any cold weather leading up to it - though that certainly changed last week with our first frost of the year! The Sun’s turning (solstice) was an occasion of great significance in earlier agricultural societies, particularly those in temperate regions. The solstice was traditionally celebrated with a bonfire festival. This symbolised not only the lighting of an internal fire in each participant’s will to carry him/her through what remained of the dark, cold winter, but also carried the hope of the spring and summer to come, with planting of crops for the next year. The solstices, in conjunction with the equinoxes, mark the Sun cycle, the fundamental rhythm of the Earth. The planets in their various orbits of the Sun overlay their cycles onto this fundamental rhythm. The planets certainly exert an influence on the natural world, however most biodynamic growers, along with many other gardeners and farmers worldwide, endeavour to work with the Moon’s cycles in their agricultural activities. The effect of the Moon on the watery element of the Earth has been known since ancient times and can easily be observed through its influence on tides, seed germination and

I’ve had direct experience of this recently, with a couple of plantings just prior to Full Moons showing astonishingly quick germinations, no doubt enhanced by the rainy weather conditions. It’s also interesting to observe the increased growth rates of leafy crops in particular in the week leading up to Full Moon, especially if there is some moisture around. Nearly all of us are familiar with this Full Moon/New Moon cycle, however it is only one of several which work in constantly changing combinations to strengthen or weaken the Moon’s effect on the Earth. I’ll expand on these in a future article. Until then, Happy Gardening!

A few years ago we also identified the scar tree and I have photos of a group of indigenous elders we took there. On the site we discovered a piece of pottery probably from a jug that would have dated from around the early 1900’s and a piece of a Hecla type china kettle that would be around the 1920’s and interestingly this would have been the main period the area was quarried. We have also found many indigenous artefacts there which show clearly that it was used as a source of material to make implements – small stone tools etc. It seems that Councillor Templeton of the then Maroochy Council in the 1980’s had soil trucked in to make the mounds you see today and exotics were planted and a sign put up calling it the sunken garden.”

Our Bushcare group have been working to restore the bushland that surrounds the Sunken Garden. As the years have passed we feel it is time to renew the energy of this place. We are proposing to have the Eumundi Sunken Gardens transformed into a beautiful native landscape, possibly with a sensory trail with bush tucker plants that will blend in and compliment the bushland surrounds. This could become a great place to provide some beautiful areas for picnics, dance, play, meditation or contemplation. We would also love to showcase the indigenous cultural heritage history in this place. If feels important to know the stories and to pass these on.

N atu re N otes TURKEY BUSINESS This is my second Nature Note about Brush Turkeys in a few weeks … I couldn’t resist taking a fresh look at these remarkable birds. It is early winter and it’s obviously getting towards the start of the breeding season once again. I suddenly realized last week … how similar male turkeys are to the young lads of today. The really important thing to be is “drop dead gorgeous” and be able to strut your stuff even if that involves some bowing and scraping! Our young male also looks like he is wearing the latest in hair design and has the shaved look at the sides and back, and a crew cut on the top of his head. Very trendy. The girls should go wild! He is also adorned with his footie scarf of yellow and red and that scarf will soon grow to an excellent length to attract even more of the girls.

Helen Hepburn WOOHOO. House renovations are also trending and true to a cause, male turkeys won’t hesitate to do a refurb on last year’s nest. In fact, they often have several nests on the go at the one time. It can be a very hectic time and take away meals are always appreciated. I will be on guard to make sure no nest happens in our garden but in the world of turkeys it’s all about position … position … and they find some spots irresistible. I wonder if they are on Twitter? The girls aren’t left out of the loop either and female turkeys were liberated thousands of years ago. They just lay their eggs in the mound and leave everything up to the male who takes care of household duties and air conditioning until the

It is mentioned in Reader’s Digest Book of Australian Birds as Brown honeyeater, [which is] rather confusing as more olive brown and grey from breast down to under tail coverts. I have studied Brown’s for many years, when they come to our birdbath and forest. only if we can get past viability issues with Council. In the meantime, we are always working on new campaigns to attract visitors and locals on Friday to invest their dollars in this town and a number of new businesses are also showing energy to achieve that end.

and there is also now the Black Market on the last Friday of the month at the Pavilion. We have not received any complaints, or concerns of confusion, from any visitors regarding our current advertising campaign.

iloveeumundimarkets.com is a brand, advertised on billboards and TV and paid for by Eumundi Parkside Market and Eumundi Square Micro Business Incubators trading on Friday as well as Wednesday and Saturday. The current campaign has attracted attention as well as giving recognition to the amount our business invests in advertising which ultimately benefits the township as a whole. For decades we have been open to and encouraged other businesses to collaborate and invest with us in advertising but perhaps it is more cost effective for some to stay tightly pursed and criticise instead. Council has previously granted most commercial market operators in Eumundi permits to trade seven days a week whilst others such as Parkside, are restricted to two days per week. A number of shops in Eumundi have been converted into indoor markets that are open on days such as Fridays,

Whilst we are apparently not a market town but a town with markets, there has been no attempt by Council to improve the streetscape for attracting visitors to stay and invest their dollars in the businesses paying rates, rent, wages and outgoings seven days a week. We currently have uneven pavements, patched up road surfaces, no pedestrian crossings or pedestrian refuge islands, no street landscaping, poorly kept roundabouts and a significant balance of land dedicated to market infrastructure. Whilst alternatives to additional market days would be preferred, in the present state of Eumundi’s town centre, the only business that’s tailored to suit … is markets.

As far as product type goes, after all is said and done, it is always the right of a visitor/local resident to decide when and where to visit and which product or service to buy. Louis Formosa, Eumundi
