living the country life

It’s taken several years of planning and deliberating to finally call Eumundi home. This is the most beautiful part of the world I have ever laid eyes on. The strong sense of community, beauty of the hinterland and the proximity to the most beautiful beaches is what has brought my family to Eumundi. A country yearning over several years laid the pathway to buy acreage, purchase some laying hens, and establish a herd of alpacas. I have been selling real estate in Ascot, Brisbane for over 13 years. The agency I worked for achieved a number of accolades, including No.1 Office in Brisbane. Personally, I achieved many outstanding awards during my years as a much respected Senior Sales person. Choosing to work at Hinternoosa was an easy decision. We had bought and sold through the team several times during our relocation to the Hinterland. The professionalism and attention to detail was second to none. Hence when it was time to settle in to a real estate position, there was no other company I wanted to work with. I am committed to the real estate process. I am highly trained and a hard worker. Selling real estate can be hard work, but it can also be a fabulous way of connecting with people. It can also be a lot of fun. If you would like a fresh approach to selling your property, why not give me a call and together we can work out a strategy for selling your property for the highest price in the shortest time frame? I look forward to happy days here in the Hinterland. What a fabulous place to live.

Notes Editor’s note ...

HEARD IN THE HINTERLAND...

The creative endeavours of our community take centre stage in this issue of the Green. We’ve had to extend to three Arts pages (four if you include music) and could’ve easily have added even more.

“Candice was very helpful and informative. My matter was handled promptly. I was kept well informed. I am very glad that I chose RB Family Law.”

We have some incredibly talented people in the hinterland attracted to the natural beauty of our region – it’s a stunning backdrop in which to be creative – and it’s always exciting to get to meet more of them.

PATRICIA, NOOSAVILLE: 2015

We will help you with: • parenting arrangements • financial support for you and your children • property arrangements on separation • obtaining a divorce

This issue I had the opportunity to interview some of the Eumundi crew behind the upcoming Noosa Film Fest...if I had my way it’d be called the Eumundi-Noosa Film Fest.

Is there a vacancy sign at your property?

The main reasons why your property could be remaining vacant are - state of repair or presentation, lack of marketing, price above current market values or lack of Agent responsibility. • How long has your property been vacant? • Do you receive regular feedback? • Is your property marketed at the right price? How do you know? • Have you seen your property recently?

Due to unprecedented demand, we have insufficient properties available for prospective tenants who are enquiring through our Agency. We can provide you with a Comparative Rent Analysis showing the average rent being achieved for a property of your size and type along with the expected days on market. 2/84 Memorial Dr Eumundi • Sales & Rentals Ph 5442 8333 • Email: nhrrentals@bigpond.com • www.noosahinterlandrealty.com.au 3

Community COAST RANKED 5TH BEST REGION The Sunshine Coast (SC) is one of only two areas in Queensland that are maintaining strong building performance and better than the state average’s for planning approvals, infrastructure charges and development availability. Master Builders Qld recently released the results of the Survey of Industry Conditions reporting the SC was ranked the fifth most desirable location in Australia for people to move to. This followed a four year study that analysed the net gains and losses for regions based on mail re-direction data from Australia Post (source: realestate.com. au). With these findings there’s no surprise that SC Council’s Development Indicators 2015/16 Highlights Report* shows activity in local development industry continued to trend positively over the past 12 months. Building approvals have recorded an eight year high, with $1.29 billion of construction approved during the 2014/15 period. This included: • $701 million approved new dwellings – 15% increase

• $203 million approved new multiple unit dwellings – 19% increase • $156 million approved additions and alterations – 141% increase The Qld Treasury have released the 2016 state building approvals which reports the SC Council Area recorded the third highest value of building approvals and fourth highest number of private dwellings in the state. 2,968 lots were created through the plan sealing process, and 1,317 lots were approved by reconfiguring lot applications during 2015/16. As these lots become available for sale they stimulate additional building activity and employment. Development activity for 2015/16 continues to rise outperforming 2014/15 with a 15% increase in applications lodged and a 17% increase in applications decided. *Development Indicators Report produced by Planning and Environment. sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au

S O L A R FA R M BEGINS Div. 10 Cr Steve Robinson, who has the Economic Development and Innovation Portfolio, enthused that everything is in place to begin production at the Valdora Solar Farm this week with two crews using 100 tonne cranes to install approx 25 tables a day. When the 15 megawatt (MV) solar farm is complete, Sunshine Coast Council will become Australia’s first local government to offset 100% of its electricity consumption from clean energy across all its facilities and operations. Mayor Jamieson said, “The solar farm will see council proactively take control of our electricity to combat rising electricity costs, which are, on average, 14% higher in Qld compared to last financial year. The Mayor explained the solar farm will deliver $22 million in savings over the next 30 years. “It’ll be instrumental in helping our region transition to clean energy economy,” he enthused. Weather dependent, all tables should be up by Christmas with the farm operational by mid-2017.

Property talk

with Heidi Woodman

ARE YOU READY TO GO TO MARKET? We’ve already discussed the importance of drive-by first impressions but once we have succeeded in getting the buyer there for a first inspection we’d like to keep them there for a bit, so presentation of the inside of your home is just as important. De-clutter… this is the number 1 job. Pare down the number of ornaments on display and items that are not used. The collection of family photographs displayed proudly about the house make it more difficult for your buyer to imagine it as their home.

The Eumundi Agricultural Show was held on Saturday 24 September at the Showgrounds at Black Stump Rd. Organiser Rick Templeton said, “We had a great day and a good turn up.” “We unofficially we call our Ag show the green rider and green horse day because we don’t charge a nomination fee which allows ‘green’ competitors to try for a greater number of classes,” he explained.

Go through the cupboards, that’s right, buyers open cupboards to check how much storage space the home offers and we don’t want them to be greeted with an avalanche. Even kitchen drawers are opened to check for compartment details and soft close mechanisms. Pack the surplus stuff into storage boxes or make the Salvos your new best friend. Think of all the time your going to save when we sell your house and you have to move. Many houses have small superficial cracks that may have appeared over time and although they are not structural problems they don’t inspire confidence in a buyer. Same goes for ceiling paint discolouration or mould patches left behind by roof leaks, make sure they’re repaired and touch up painted.

“This helps new competitors to better understand their sport and we encourage competitors to ask questions so they can learn,” Rick shared.

Lastly of course, give the place a spring clean, things that don’t get done every week (unless you’re super efficient like my Mother) Ceiling fans, skirting boards, ovens, windows, light switches etc.

The show will be donating the proceeds to Sunshine Coast Riding for the Disabled and the Yandina Bowls Club - who help with the canteen every year.

Now you’re ready to go to market!

FLASH JACK BUSH DANCE

Eumundi is about to host its first country music festival on Sat 15 October at the showgrounds and it’s shaping up to be a humdinger with some Australia’s biggest names in country music including: Travis Collins, Amber Lawrence, Matt Cornell, Georgia Fall, Liam Brew and Damien Baguley.

I remember a childhood full of dos-à-dos (pronounced: doesee-does) and square dancing - I think we even learned it at school! But for the last few decades of my life there’s been barely a trace of a bush dancing.

Festival organiser, Ryan Anderson who moved to Maroochydore around six years ago and is originally from a farming family in Saskatchewan, Canada, explained he wanted to bring his love of country music to the Coast. “I grew up listening to country music and have always had a passion for it - I wanted to share my love of this genre with this area,” Ryan explained. Ryan said Eumundi Country Music Festival (ECMF) is going to have a healthy “rock edge” with highenergy acts, including Will Day (Brisbane), The Viper Creek Band (NSW), Travis Collins (NSW), and closing the festival, is 14 Golden Guitar and multiple platinum selling artist Adam Brand.

“Most people think country music is boring, but the genre has evolved immensely!” Ryan shared. On his choice of Eumundi to host ECMF Ryan said, “The location of Eumundi was chosen because the community already brings the farm to the town, with the beautiful variety of food and craft stalls in their markets.” ECMF will be holding its Kick-off Party at the Imperial Hotel with Jared Porter and Sami McGrath, on Friday 14 October. Eumundi’s community bus will be running as a shuttle between the festival, town and parking. Eumundi’s Chamber of Commerce will be running the bar at the event. eumundicountrymusicfestival.com

Tues 1st Nov

Then I was introduced to our local, much loved, dance band Flashjack. And apparently in their “retirement” they’re busier than ever - even playing at Woodford last year. I just wish they’d have a bush dance in Eumundi more than once a year! I love the combination of challenge and relaxed fun. There’s no pressure to get it right, and yet it’s so much fun when you do. You get to dance with almost everyone in the room, while still having your own partner. You can go by yourself or with a partner or with your whole family. My daughter was six when she went last year and loved it. A bit shy at first, but she warmed up to win “most

enthusiastic dancer” - though competition here is wonderfully absent. Because the dances are called, you can be a complete beginner, and yet there are various degrees of difficulty, so there’s no chance to get bored. And Flashjack play so well that even if you know a dance inside out their music makes it brand new. Jackie calls the dances and is so encouraging, it’s impossible not to have a good time. And if you don’t want to dance, the people at the tables are friendly, open and generous - and even share their food with complete strangers. Bring on the next one!

Arts LOCALS FINALISTS FOR ART COMP Two talented local artists were finalists in the Local Artists-Local Content exhibition which opened at the Caloundra Regional Gallery last Thursday night. 40 finalists, selected from over 100 entries, included Eumundi artist Marika Albers and Doonan artist Katrin Terton. Of the opening Marika said, “It was great to see the range and quality of work from the Coast - and to be recognised in that group.”

Best of Show prize was given to Gabbi Tim for her artwork Beach Rocks, Diane Peach won best 3D prize and Rick Everingham best painting. All finalist pieces are available for purchase. The Local Artists-Local Content exhibition will be showing until 2 Oct. gallery.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au.

Now in its third year and offering prizes totaling $7500, the competition aims to showcase local talent and encourage artists to produce new artworks. Gallery president Marie Pigott said, “The works depict the Coast in all its glory, including scenes of the sea, the hinterland… local wildlife and more.” Explaining her entry Marika said, “My painting Last Light at Tea Tree is inspired by the play of colours where the sunlight hits the ocean - to me, the ocean and beaches in this part of the world are just sublime, so it was the natural choice to try to portray for this theme.”

Last Light at Teatree by Marita Albers, is inspired by sunlight on the ocean.

To create her artwork Book of Nature, Katrin Terton used natural materials of: eucalypt, melaleuca bark, string and seed pods.

MEET THE MAKERS During spring the Artisan Gallery is holding Meet the Makers Sessions to co-incide with their current Spring Showcase exhibition. The popup studio demonstrations by local artisans will take place every Friday from 1-3pm at 43 Caplick Way, Eumundi. Arts EUMUNDI GRASSROOTS OF NIFF The inaugural Noosa International film festival (NIFF) program features an amazing line-up that includes eight world cinema premiere features and three international short film competitions with films from 31 countries. The recent announcement that Oscar winning Aussie cinematographer John Seale, plus celebrated actresses Radha Mitchell and Rachel Blake, are among the festival’s guests give NIFF serious screen cred – even before the first screening. But what many mightn’t know is that the festival was created with significant input from our own Eumundi World Cinema (EWC). When Peter Chenoweth and David Bell from the Noosa Chamber of Commerce (CCIQ) decided the region needed its own international film festival encompassing Noosa and the hinterland, they made a beeline for the crew at EWC. Having established a flourishing, wellorganised community cinema scene in a small country town on the cheap with over 100 members already (60% of whom

hail from Noosa), EWC seemed the ideal group to ask. So for the last six months a group of hardworking hinterlanders including Arnold Kopff, Maree Thomson, and Mick Barton, Trent Harvison and Bruce Hamilton - have been busily structuring, collating, sourcing, shortlisting, choosing, emailing, organising and timetabling to produce a shiny new festival ready to sit amongst the world’s best.

basically looking after all the “production” details: what’s needed, when and where; who will be needed to do things; establishing equipment lists; venue visits etc.” When EWC President Arnold Kopff took on the role of Festival Curator for NIFF he admits he had no idea how all-consuming it would become. For the last six to twelve months, Arnold has been working 14-16 hours days structuring the competitions,

Building a festival from scratch has been no mean feat, but the Cont’d on pg 18. EWC team were able to draw on their experience and training – and what they didn’t know, they researched! Bruce Hamilton shared, “With my background in event and production management it made sense to take on the role of ‘Production Three of the Eumundi World Cinema crew Management behind NIFF (from left); Mick Barton, Arnold Team Leader’ – Kopff and Trent Harvison.

Arts ARTISAN AGNES “I love this country,”stated Agnieszka RagankiewiczWyspianska with the same conviction that motivated her to swap her native Poland for our leafy hinterland last November. “Yes I miss my family, but here we have not only peace from political unrest but also the lifestyle, space, light, big open sky and a massive ocean only 20 minutes away,” Agnes said from the family jewellery business Studio Rox nestled in the gardens of her Eumundi home. Nearby in the dying rays of the afternoon winter sun her twins Johny and Simon, 8, can be heard shrieking with delight from the pool her artisan husband Adam Wyspianski designed.

Leo Wiles “See you can live outside all year around,” laughed Agnes punctuating her happiness with a flourish that takes in the cheeky Galahs, Crimson Parrots and Kookaburras who she delights in hand feeding. “In Europe winter is monochromatic - we even swaddle the statues in the park to protect them from freezing. But here… everything is colourful and there is such a diversity of flora and fauna.” It is the native birdlife, lizards and flora that inspire the Fine Art and Graphic Design graduate whose monochromatic pointillism botanical art is now hanging in Eumundi’s Artisan Gallery. The statuesque blonde can also be found on Instagram or Facebook modelling for Lily’s Vintage Boutique, formerly Eumundi Vintage Clothing, and her jewellery can be found in Memorial Drive’s Pearls for Girls. For the multitalented Agnes, her statement jewellery pieces such as Blue Moon and Saturn merge her Polish past and bright Australian future in a meld of Amber - Poland’s national treasure - with opals and pearls from her adopted Australian homeland. All her bespoke pieces are handcrafted using traditional tools and techniques. FB: Studio ROX Jewellery Design

Coriander coconut pesto Kaz O’Neil This recipe came out from the frustration of always throwing out herbs because they never lasted long in the fridge. I love creating new recipes and always get so excited when I have a new recipe idea. I’ve been in the hospitality industry since I was 17 when I joined the army as a cook. Eight years later I left the army and travelled overseas for 10 years where I ate myself around the world. A lot of my inspiration comes from different cuisines I discovered on my travels. Coming home to the Sunshine Coast I owned and ran Alfresco’s Café until last year – when I swore I was taking a break from hospitality. But I’ve recently been lured back into the kitchen by Nina and Civa at Berkelouw Café – and am loving it. My family and I love this recipe – it’s delicious on a beautiful medium rare eye fillet but it is also equally fantastic on fish, poultry, salad – or as a vegetarian or vegan dish - I find it’s a superb accompaniment to a mushroom and avocado stack. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as we do. Bon Appetite! Same with the salt. • 1 tbsp coconut oil Method Ingredients Add all ingredients to a blender Serve with anything that takes • 2 bunches of coriander stems • 1-2 birds eye chillies (optional) your fancy. or food processor and blend roots and all • 1-2 tbsp palm sugar until it’s a nice rough paste. • 1 good handful of flat leaf • Rind of 1 lime parsley I suggest you add 1tspn of palm sugar and taste - then • Juice of half a lime • 5 tbsp coconut cream maybe just add the second tsp • 100g toasted pine nuts • 2 tbsp coconut chips if it’s to your liking.

Heritage LAUNCH OF MEMORABLE VIDEOS At the recent opening of the Trees of Tribute exhibition at Discover Eumundi there were over 50 people eagerly awaiting the first public viewing of 20 audio visual stories created by the Centre for the centenary of ANZAC. Each of the 20 very poignant videos feature men who enlisted in WW1 and did not return. Each of the men had family in Eumundi or connections to Eumundi. Some were born in or near Eumundi and some were closely related to each other. Many of those attending the premiere were related to the subjects of the videos and many had been interviewed by local videographer Leo Wiles to help flesh out what was for most of the 20 men, a short life. One hundred years on the connections are still strong, many of their families still remember, attend ANZAC Day in Eumundi and Verrierdale and lay wreaths. The loss and also the pride in being related to these men is being carried down the generations.

video footage or over the phone. This project is ongoing and will continue to unearth new information which will become part of the heritage collection at Discover Eumundi. This project is a legacy for the town, to the families of the 20 men, to the 20 men and to the other 85 men who returned from WW1 listed on the honour roll at the School of Arts hall, to all who have stopped to notice the plaques under Eumundi’s Memorial Trees, to the children from Eumundi State School who lay wreaths on ANZAC Day... Lest We Forget. The videos and exhibition on Trees of Tribute can be viewed at Discover Eumundi Heritage and Visitor Centre until 13 November. Links to the videos will soon be online at discovereumundi.com

These relatives of the 20 and many more who sent their apologies have greatly contributed to the short videos by sending Discover Eumundi staff and volunteers documents, photographs and generously taking time to speak on

What's in the Spotlight Get ready for storm season Get ready for storm season because, if you’re t and healthy, it’s your responsibility to prepare your family, pets, home and business for a disaster or extreme weather event before it happens. Visit Council’s online Disaster Hub for easy step by step disaster and emergency planning, information on sandbagging as well as vital information on what to do during and after a disaster or emergency that could save lives.

Help make us a smarter region Send in your ideas for Hackfest 2016 to help make us a smarter region. Sunshine Coast Hackfest connects community members with a local issue or problem to solve with coders, digital creatives, data analysts, story tellers and entrepreneurs to create apps, visualisations, websites and tools from government data sets. If you have an idea or problem solving hacking skills visit Council’s website to register and for details.

Around the fields of Shambhala Farm, we talk about Growing ‘comm-unity’ through food. It is by working with various diverse elements with a common-unity that food can be produced and enjoyed holistically. One of the core aspects of life I love being in comm-unity with is... soil. By supporting soil to flourish with life and health, it allows nutrient-rich produce to be grown and helps us have vital living every day. For our soil to be healthy, we embrace compost.

Nominate a local hero

Composting is one of those things that simply makes sense. It involves recycling local materials and waste into plant-available nutrients. The composting system we use is a ‘Static Pile.’ Aeration, moisture, diversity of inputs, and a robust carbon/nitrogen ratio are the key things we consider when building a compost pile, our aim of carbon to nitrogen is 30:1. Some of the ingredients we have in our compost recipe are veggie scrapes, mulch, chicken litter, straw, water, weeds, dry leaves, clay and gypsum: all of which bring their own characteristics to the pile. We also include biodynamic preparation balls to bring vitality and balance to the dark gold we look forward to finding in a few months.

Do you know an inspiring individual, a dedicated community group or an organisation worthy of recognition and thanks who is making a difference to life on the Sunshine Coast? Nominate them for a 2017 Sunshine Coast Australia Day Award. Visit Council’s website for details.

We recently built our biggest compost pile yet - 24 cubic metres of stacked hot, moist materials that will be converted into rich, dark compost by

O N T H E FA R M Christmas. And it’s already heating up nicely - reaching temperatures of 60°. It’s through composting we utilise the help of a diverse range of bacteria and fungi, our friends in the soil who do all the hard conversion work. The most important role at the farm is to ensure these microorganisms get everything they need to thrive, as it all begins with them. To help the bacteria and fungi in the composting process, we will soon be turning the pile to aerate and continue processing. Seeing the composting process unfold is a major inspiration and brings me gratitude for life’s intelligent processes. By working with the community of microlife, understanding its movements and needs, and bringing in just the right mix of aspects and ingredients, I know my life – and those who also love Shambhala Farm’s produce - is deeply enriched.

N atu re N otes TUSKED FROGS REVISITED Now that it is spring and nights are not so cold our first job every morning is to check the swimming pool for frogs that may have jumped in and cannot climb back out because of the overhanging coping. We have rigged some netting at one end of the pool to allow frogs, spiders and anything else that might have blundered into the water to get out but frogs don’t seem smart enough to use it. They also evade all attempts to help them out with a scoop net. They can cling onto the sides for a few hours but if we don’t fish them out they drown eventually. The worst offenders during the transition from winter to spring are the native Tusked Frogs, Adelotus brevis. We hear their muted “clucking” call down by our dam all year but now is the time they become night-time wanderers.

EUMUNDI BUSHCARE GROUP Amber Grimley Kon Hepers

Why are they called Tusked Frogs? The males have a pair of tusks (pseudo-teeth) on their lower jaw. The function of those tusks is not clear. Perhaps they are used for fighting or some courtship behaviour but no one really knows. This species ranges in a thin coastal strip from about central Queensland down to southern NSW. It is now uncommon in urban areas but not of concern in the regions. Before handling frogs always ensure that your hands are damp but thoroughly clean with all traces of soap or creams removed. Frogs retrieved from a chlorinated swimming pool should be rinsed off with fresh water. If you hold frogs flat between your hands for several seconds, then place them gently on a surface, they (sometimes) hold still enough for a photograph.

We also notice that Cane Toads are becoming active. We can all recognise toads when we see them but its not so easy with Tusked Frogs. They have some similarity with Cane Toads in having a “blotchy” grey/brown dorsal (back) surface with striped legs. That makes identification more difficult especially by torchlight on a rainy night. They are also about the same size as young toads. So if you engage in “toad busting”, the trick is to turn any captured frog upside down and look at the ventral (belly) side. Both species have blackand-white marbled belly skin but the native Tusked Frogs have brilliant scarlet colouration in the groin and hind leg area. It is unmistakeable. Another not as noticeable difference is that toads sit up straight whereas the frogs lie flat.

The Eumundi Sunken Garden recently got a new picnic table. The Eumundi Bushcare Group volunteers are very happy to use it for our morning tea after our monthly weeding sessions. Have you seen it? It looks great and it is a great place to sit and enjoy the garden. The picnic table that got replaced apparently had asbestos in it. The trees that the community planted on National Tree Day are looking really good. We have been very lucky to have had decent showers ever since

the tree planting to keep them well watered. The Bushcare Group has been keeping an eye on them and we have only had to give them a bit of water. This little Bleeding Heart tree, Homalanthus nutans, is doing very well and showing us the love!

We need more volunteers! So please if you are interested in getting into the bush for only two hours a month, meeting new people, learning about plants and animals, please come and join us!!! FB: Eumundi Bushcare Group Do you know where Eumundi’s Sunken Garden is? We still get asked “Where is it?” a lot! Here is a map to show you where it is. The Eumundi Bushcare Group meets on the fourth Sunday of the month 9.30 to 12pm. Morning tea is provided. The next working bee is Sunday Oct 23.

Arts Cont’d from pg 11. problem solving, finding an international market, watching shorts, finding features, answering over 3000 emails and fulfilling a lifelong ambition to become a movie producer - in a roundabout way. A hobby cinematographer with a background in computer programming, Arnold was the perfect candidate to develop and structure the event. It’s been a lot of work but Arnold shared that just six minutes after the competition went live on-line he received an entry from Spain, no less. A minute after this spine tingling moment, Arnold got another prospective entry from Melbourne, following quickly by ones from Vietnam, UK, and Russia. As the emails kept pouring in, Arnold realised the inaugural NIFF was going to be a success. Arnold explained an intrinsic difference between NIFF and other short film competitions is the content they’re accepting. “I decided we would take any genre of film - documentary, surf, environment, comedy,

drama – which opened the festival up to more exciting, vibrant works.” The task of choosing which of the 217 shorts submitted would make the cut was given over to fifteen curators – most from EWC - with instructions to give each a ‘thumbs up’ or ‘thumbs down’. Trent Harvison of Starry Nights Outdoor Cinema, who helped with much of the NIFF groundwork and was one of the Eumundi curators, revealed “The calibre of work was incredibly high, which made our job as curators all the more difficult.” Curator Mick Barton agreed, sharing, “I had to ring Arnold and ask what if I want to give them all the thumbs up? He said then you give them all the thumbs up!” The festival really came to life once the feature films started rolling in. Mick admits the first Iranian entry stayed with him. “The film maker emailed Arnold expressing an interest to be included in the selection but explained his challenge – due to international sanctions Iranian citizens are unable to transfer funds internationally.”

In the end, sixteen Iranian film makers entered films, with four making the official selection. Mindful of the Iranian’s financial issues, the festival decided to waive their entrance fees. “It seemed unfair otherwise,” Mick smiled. Arnold has been thrilled to engage with so many interesting international film makers, learn their stories and watch their films. It’s been a great compliment to him and the festival team that so many are keen to cross the globe to see their film premiere as part of NIFF. “When a wonderful Nepalese film maker found out he had been officially selected he booked tickets for his whole family to come to Noosa – and he’s just one of many!”

hear legendary cinematographer (and Queenslander) John Seale had accepted their invitation to present the awards and offer a masterclass. Arnold enthused, “He and his wife are flying in from Rome – and for payment all John wanted was two beers and two-star accommodation!” Bruce shared, “It is very exciting to see the fruits of the labour of so many people, including all of the film makers, come into being. I’ve met a lot of new people here who have demonstrated a very high level of professionalism in all areas, and to see so many work together, as volunteers, is very heartening - we can do stuff!” niff.com.au

Of the 141 shorts offered official selection, the festival’s team of seven judges (which included Location Manager and Eumundi local Chris Strewe) chose the winners – who will be announced during the festival. Arnold shared it was an incredible coup to
