Fostering the Love for Reading. Sant Jordi at EISB
By Mr. Mike Barrett. Director
As an intrinsic part of the education we provide at our school, we have always valued the vital role that reading plays in the intellectual and emotional development of our pupils, from an early age Reading not only broadens their vocabulary and improves their language skills, but also fosters imagination, empathy and critical thinking
In this respect, Sant Jordi's Day, which we celebrate with great enthusiasm every year, offers the perfect occasion to foster a love of reading among our students and their families.
I hope you are all enjoying reading your Sant Jordi book. Don't forget that we have several spaces in the school which house many books for you to share and continue to enjoy new adventures and learning

Inspiring Storytelling in the library
By Lyn McBride, Infant School Coordinator
It is so much fun for the Infants to walk out of school and go on an excursion!
On this occasion, they visited the Sant Cugat library, so close to our school
The magic of books and stories came alive before their curious eyes as they explored the shelves full of stories to discover
They dived into a world of adventure and fantasy as they listened attentively to the storytellers, who brought to life endearing characters and transported the little ones to faraway and exciting worlds
The experience of watching our students enjoy reading and storytelling is simply wonderful Every page they turn, every word they hear, is another step on their journey towards a love for reading and lifelong learning
Without a doubt, it is an experience that we recommend repeating every time they have the opportunity to go to the library with their families and friends

Job Shadowing in Luxembourg
By Ms Angela Delgado, Primary Teacher
I was privileged to be chosen this year to be part of the Erasmus + Programme for teachers Where did I decide to go? Luxembourg was my destination! The Erasmus+ trip to the International School of Luxembourg marked an enriching experience and visiting one of the premier educational institutions in Luxembourg, renowned for its implementation of the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme and Primary Years Programme (PYP), provided invaluable insights into their educational system and pedagogical approaches I was very grateful to spend a day with Gemma in a Grade 4 classroom, observing the homeroom literacy and other lessons Miss Vania enlightened me with her artistic knowledge and creativity with Grade 2 and 5 Students
The trip offered a unique opportunity to delve into the intricacies of the school's educational framework Collaborating with the faculty and students allowed for a firsthand understanding of their methodologies and practices Specifically, the immersion in the PYP way of learning provided valuable perspectives on holistic education The students were ever so friendly and allowed me freely to be involved in their learning process They even told me that I had brought the sunshine with me from Barcelona As we very well know, the weather in Luxembourg is cold and wet most of the time in Winter
One of the standout highlights of the trip was the opportunity to engage with the students in their artistic endeavors Assisting grade 2 and 5 students in finalising their art projects was not only enjoyable but also enlightening The 5th grade students were finishing their project on trainer design and decoration, with some amazing ideas using Posca pens Witnessing their creativity and enthusiasm was an absolute treat Merci beaucoup International School of Luxembourg!

EISB Team Ms Iratxe Marcos
GlobalCitizenshipTeacher,CommunityServiceCoordinator
ByCommunicationsDepartment
Ms Iratxe joined the EISB team at the beginning of the 2019-2020 academic year, defying the adverse circumstances of the moment (in the midst of the pandemic) to carry out her educational work with passion and commitment
We all know that she loves music, especially after she took the stage at this year's Solidarity Concert and sang some beautiful songs with her old Mas Gospel Choir, which she was part of for more than 15 years If there is one thing that characterises her, it is that she loves travelling and getting to know new cultures, as well as spending as much time as possible with her 4-year-old son Mikel, from whom she learns every day to see the world through the eyes of a child, with his perspective and viewpoint As a friend of hers says, Iratxe has the soul of an anthropologist!
AsaGlobalCitizenshipteacherinSecondaryYear1,Year2andYear3,MsIratxe isknownforherinnovativeanddynamicapproachintheclassroom, turningher classes into a platform for students to engage in critical reflections on society and the contemporary world Through debates, reflections and practical activities, sheencouragescriticalthinkingandglobalawarenessinherstudents, addressing relevant and current issues that go beyond the traditional curriculum.
One of the highlights of her work is the implementation of the Community Service programme, which requires students to do volunteer hours and community service. Ms Iratxe is proud to see how her students get involved in social causes and find purpose in helping others She also gives them the opportunity to expand their horizons by participating in external volunteering and, for those who are willing to take on a greater challenge, she organises an annual awareness and volunteering trip to Kenya, that gives them the opportunitytoworkalongsidetheChazonAfricaschool
If I had to recommend something to our families, it would be "Set an example for your children If you show them at home that solidarity is something important, they will internalise it and normalise it There is a lot of learning involved in volunteering and solidarity actions It promotes solidarity, empathy and altruism I am aware that we lead very busy lives and that it is sometimes difficult to find time to do things that we don't have scheduled However, volunteering as a family strengthens our family bonds by giving us the chance to share an activity together"
