Sensorial Garden: Discovering the World Through the Senses

At EISB, inspired by the philosophy of Loris Malaguzzi and the Reggio Emilia methodology, we create welcoming spaces where the youngest children, from 9 months to 2 years old, can learn and grow in a nurturing environment One of the standout activities is the Sensorial Garden, a creative workshop where children explore textures and stimulate their senses through natural materials such as wood, stones, shells, and fabrics This experience fosters their innate curiosity and helps them discover the world around them

The Sensorial Garden goes beyond fun: it provides children with the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of their environment through their five senses With sight, they observe and awaken their curiosity; with touch, they experience unique sensations; with smell, they form hypotheses; with taste, they learn about the properties of objects; and with hearing, they perceive sounds and understand the consequences of their actions. .

This multisensory exploration contributes to cognitive and motor development, enhancing coordination while stimulating creativity and imagination

Moreover, this hands-on learning encourages critical thinking and active participation, helping children absorb knowledge in a more profound and meaningful way In the Sensorial Garden, every activity is an opportunity to grow and discover, proving that exploration and curiosity are essential drivers of development Here, learning and fun become one, guided by the natural instinct to explore

Inspiring Techno Delegates: Unveiling the Wonders of GeoGuessr

This month, our spotlight shines on two talented students, Edu Cardenas and Álex Hintzmann from 2º ESO B, who are part of the school’s dynamic "Techno Delegates" group Their latest work, "Discover the World with GeoGuessr: A GameChanging App for Exploration," is an insightful deep dive into one of the most innovative educational games out there.

In their article, Edu and Álex explore how GeoGuessr, a cutting-edge app, transforms traditional learning into an immersive, global adventure

The game places players in random Google Street View locations, challenging them to identify their whereabouts using visual clues like road signs, landscapes, and architecture Whether navigating bustling cities or remote countryside paths, GeoGuessr encourages players to think critically and develop their observational skills

Example retrieved from Geoguessr: Get to know Spain

Edu and Álex emphasize how GeoGuessr isn’t just a game, but a powerful educational tool They highlight its ability to teach geography, culture, and language while making learning fun Their article walks readers through the app’s engaging features, from themed maps and multiplayer competitions to streak and time-based modes that test players’ skills and decisionmaking

By showcasing GeoGuessr, Edu and Álex have successfully bridged the gap between entertainment and education, inspiring readers to explore the world from the comfort of their own homes. Congratulations to Edu and Álex for their fantastic work! We encourage everyone to read their article and, of course, try GeoGuessr for themselves

Languages of Origin: Explorin Multilingual Backgrounds

At EISB, we are proud to announce the launch of our Languages of Origin Programme, an initiative that embraces the multilingual and multicultural fabric of our school community This program is designed to create a space where students who share a common language or cultural background can connect, interact, and celebrate their linguistic heritage. The initiative reflects the true linguistic diversity of our school, highlighting the potential of each student's full linguistic repertoire for both academic and social enrichment

From a cognitive perspective, research underscores the importance of nurturing origin languages to effectively scaffold the acquisition of additional languages On a social and emotional level, the origin language serves as a vital medium for expressing identity, fostering a sense of belonging to a particular linguistic and cultural group This recognition is essential in setting goals for both integration and language acquisition

The Languages of Origin Programme establishes a new space where local and global languages converge, acknowledging the value of all languages, including their unique accents and varieties, for use within and beyond the classroom. The program’s primary focus is on developing reading skills and enhancing oral language proficiency in an academic setting, specifically tailored for Primary Education students.

The programme runs weekly sessions during the break period before lunch, led by parent volunteers who share the same origin language as the group of selected students These 50-minute sessions provide an open and engaging environment for students to interact in their origin languages through various activities, including projects, games, songs, cultural traditions, and diverse reading materials, all from a cross-disciplinary perspective

Currently, the programme includes two active Portuguese groups (Years 1-2 and Years 3-6) and one Polish group (Years 3-6) French, Ukrainian, and Chinese classes are set to begin soon, with potential demand for Hebrew, Russian, German, Dutch, and Turkish groups in the near future

We invite parents to participate as linguistic volunteers or to enroll their children in this exciting new programme For more information, please contact Mr. Ivan at idelatorre@eisbarcelona com

Ana Rosselló: Inspiring a Passion for Technology

Ana Rosselló, now in her second year as a technology teacher at EISB, has quickly become a beloved member of the teaching team Reflecting on her journey, she shares, “I love it when students genuinely enjoy the topics we cover in class Seeing their enthusiasm is incredibly rewarding ”

Ana’s passion for technology stems from her love of creating something from nothing and understanding how things work This fascination drives her teaching philosophy, where hands-on projects are at the core of her lessons By engaging students in practical tasks, she helps them explore the transformative power of technology in a tangible and exciting way From Ana’s perspective, programming stands out as one of the most enriching aspects of technology education “It develops logical thinking and teaches students that mistakes are part of learning When things don’t work on the first try, they learn to troubleshoot and improve, which is a skill that goes beyond technology ”

She also emphasises the importance of understanding how the world functions In her classes, students delve into topics such as mobile networks, Internet functionality, and the differences between alternating and direct current. These lessons not only enhance their technical knowledge but also encourage them to identify problems and think critically about solutions This year, Ana's students have had the exciting opportunity to participate in two major robotics competitions: Quanta and Lego First, which will offer students the chance to put these skills to the test

Beyond the classroom, Ana recommends families to foster a healthy and enriching use of technology at home through tools like typing com for improving typing skills and Tinkercad for exploring circuits and 3D design These resources not only build essential skills but also make learning fun and interactive To students considering a future in technology, Ana’s advice is simple: stay curious, engage in class, and explore the vast online resources available

Ana’s enthusiasm and dedication to her students exemplify the transformative role of technology in education. By inspiring curiosity and equipping students with essential skills, she ensures they are prepared to navigate and shape the technological world of tomorrow.

The RECIPE, please!

Instruccions:

1.

2.

Preescalfeu el forn a 176,67°C (a dalt i a baix).

Cobriu un motlle amb paper de forn. Engreixeu-lo amb mantega i enfarineu-lo.

3.

6. Incorporeu-hi l’extracte de vainilla i, si voleu, les nous picades i les panses. Aboqueu la massa al motlle preparat.

8 Serviu-ho i gaudiu-ne! 9
